Shocking! The Protagonist of the Mpreg Story Is a Straight Man - Chapter 12
When Pei Nan returned to school, he was so busy his feet hardly touched the ground.
Chen Bin’s information bombardment had nearly caused his phone to explode. Chen Bin had actually thought Pei Nan had been kidnapped by some unknown organization to have his kidneys harvested and was on the verge of calling the police. It took a lengthy explanation from Pei Nan to convince him that his early departure was due to an urgent matter, rather than going to a hotel with some girl he’d hit it off with.
In a stroke of luck amidst the misfortune, his mother, Ms. Zhu Yun, had been extremely busy with work lately. Since she was away on a business trip, their communication was essentially on a “cross-day” delay asking what he ate for dinner today might only receive a reply the next day. Otherwise, his two-day disappearance would have worried her to death.
Aside from that, the person most anxious and frustrated was his coach, Old Wang.
The training plan had just been set last week, yet Pei Nan had skipped training this week. He couldn’t be found, and he didn’t pick up his phone. To Old Wang, this looked like an act of defiance and arrogance, which immediately set the coach’s temper ablaze.
So, when Pei Nan finally stood before Coach Old Wang, the very first thing he received was a harsh scolding.
“I don’t care what you went off to do these past two days or what difficulties you had. If you don’t speak up, we all assume you have no difficulties. And since there are none, you should be at training even if it’s raining knives from the sky! How are results achieved? Through training! How is the honor of Jintie University earned? It’s swum out by countless swimming elites training their lives off!”
“This trophy has stayed with us for four years now. This is the fifth. I don’t think I need to emphasize how much the school leadership values this. Your swimming pool is the largest and best; your locker rooms are the brightest and most comfortable. Everything has been prepared for you, yet you can’t endure hardship as well as your predecessors?”
“I assume that since you came to Jintie via this path and joined the swimming team, you understand the meaning of competitive sports and grasp its spirit. In your heart, you must want to work hard for your youth. Is this how you work hard?”
“Three days of fishing and two days of drying the nets if that’s how you think and act, I advise you to leave early. Don’t waste your youth in the pool only to say after graduation that your youth was squandered. I don’t want you to have regrets.”
Pei Nan’s face flushed red under the lecture, while 419 hovered by his ear offering comfort.
“Coach, I promise. From now on, I will strictly follow the team rules and will never act on my own without reporting in again,” Pei Nan said, his eyes resolute.
Old Wang was quite gratified to see this. Pei Nan was a talented prospect he wanted to cultivate properly; he couldn’t just suppress and scold him constantly. Seeing his good attitude in admitting his mistake, the coach softened his stern expression and patted his shoulder kindly. “Don’t blame me for being strict. Some things can be major or minor, but you must never lose an opportunity only to regret it later. Alright, go warm up and start training. I’ll head over in a bit to check your performance.”
Pei Nan finished his warm-up and dove into the water. Having not swum for a few days, he missed the surface of the water and the feeling of gliding through it intensely. At the same time, he felt as if he had inexhaustible strength; his joints felt a restless itch, urging him to move faster.
He swam with sheer joy, unaware that the people on the deck and in the adjacent lanes had gradually stopped to watch him. Old Wang held a stopwatch, his finger poised over the button, trembling ever so slightly if one looked closely.
Pei Nan was swimming too fast!
He was like a fish that belonged in the water; his pale body appeared and disappeared amidst the blue ripples. The waves carved out by his stroke surrounded him as he surged forward, as if every trail of water carried a mysterious thrust that pushed his speed even higher.
Yang Fan had originally been on the deck, but watching Pei Nan, his physical reaction became difficult to control. He had no choice but to submerge himself in the water to hide his state.
His throat moved involuntarily as his eyes, like those of a hawk, stared fixately at the glimpse of Pei Nan’s moist tongue and lips revealed during breaths.
The air suddenly felt thick and viscous. Yang Fan gasped heavily as if suffocating. The throbbing below brought him a twisted sense of pleasure. At the moment Pei Nan finished the lap and touched the wall to lift his head, Yang Fan’s body gave a shudder, followed by a long, lingering afterglow.
Pei Nan’s sharp, handsome features and thick, dark hair had become a visual feast. Even every drop of water dripping from his shoulders seemed to radiate a sweet, seductive aura.
By the time Yang Fan swam over, Pei Nan was already surrounded by everyone offering their congratulations.
“Nan-ge, you’re too incredible! We’re definitely going to steal the spotlight this time!”
“With these results, getting into the national team wouldn’t be a problem. How do you train, Pei Nan?”
“It was beautiful. The way your arms pulled and your legs kicked… I f*cking can’t even describe it. Can anyone put it into words? I just felt like you and the water became one!”
A rare smile finally appeared on Old Wang’s stern face. “Not bad. You have extraordinary potential, young man.”
Pei Nan ran a hand through his hair and waved them off. “It was probably a fluke. I just felt like I was in a good state just now, but if you asked me to swim it again, I might not have that same feeling.”
“Appropriate modesty leads to progress, but excessive modesty leads to regression. Believe in yourself; your abilities go far beyond what you’ve shown. I’ll be readjusting your training regimen later. From now on, you’ll train with Yang Fan and the others.”
After Old Wang finished speaking, the others burst into applause. “Nan-ge, keep it up! You’re the backbone of the freshmen!”
Yang Fan also offered a warm smile of congratulations. “I told you, you could do it.”
Recalling Yang Fan’s encouragement from the other day, Pei Nan felt a bit more cheerful and subconsciously ignored the slight discomfort Yang Fan had previously caused him.
After training ended, Yang Fan specifically waited for Pei Nan to leave together. He gestured with a smile toward the group of senior athletes behind him. “You’ve turned me down several times already. This time, you have to come eat with all of us.”
Pei Nan felt embarrassed by the comment. “I really did have things to do before. Tonight’s treat is on me.”
There was no point in a group of young men arguing over it, so they eventually agreed to take turns paying. Since Pei Nan was the newcomer, they wouldn’t let him pay this time.
“Tonight, Captain Yang is picking up the tab!”
They left the pool house howling like wolves and returned through the school gates with their arms around each other’s shoulders.
Because they had to train, the group didn’t even order beer. They simply focused on devouring their food, with everyone averaging three extra bowls of rice by the end.
Yang Fan’s hand rested on Pei Nan’s shoulder, and he couldn’t help but give it a squeeze. Pei Nan turned his head abruptly, not expecting their faces to be so close there was barely a fist’s distance between them.
Pei Nan’s radar went beep-beep-beep in alarm, and 419 popped out as well.
“Host, Host! I think he’s going to kiss you!”
“Shut the f*ck up, his hands aren’t being honest either!”
Pei Nan raised his hand and violently shook off Yang Fan’s arm. He stood his ground, looking at him with a cold, piercing gaze.
The others had no idea what was happening; they thought the two were just messing around. After a couple of glances, they continued walking and chatting, inadvertently leaving the two of them alone.
“Yang Fan, what the hell do you mean by this?”
