She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 35
Along their journey, the two of them had been accumulating good deeds. Whenever they encountered villages with a significant number of survivors, they would help clear out the zombies. Occasionally, when they came across survivors in the city, they would escort them to the nearest safe village. However, that was the extent of their assistance. What dangers those survivors might face afterward was no longer their concern.
The two of them wandered around as if going in circles, yet they found no information about the official organization or Tai’an. During this time, the weather took a drastic turn. In just one night, the temperature plummeted from nearly 40 degrees Celsius to below zero, and snow began to fall.
They had no idea how long this abnormal weather would last, but it left them feeling uneasy.
Nevertheless, they noticed something: capable ability users had begun gathering people and establishing small, secure bases one after another. Some of these bases even had armed police officers among them. Unfortunately, these officers were also unaware of the organization’s movements, which spoke volumes about how effective their secrecy measures were.
When interacting with people from other bases, the two of them remained cautious and vigilant, fearing that some bases might be disguised as ordinary survivor settlements, possibly even Tai’an in disguise. Thus, during their interactions, they kept their identities concealed.
Wandering around like this, they did not encounter anyone from Tai’an again until they reached Haicheng.
But then again, it made sense. Ability users were not exactly common. In their last encounter, not only had many ordinary people been lost, but three ability users had also perished. It was likely that the blow to Tai’an had been significant.
“Roar!” Yinxi looked up at a road sign marking the entrance to Haicheng. She had once visited this place with her parents on a vacation.
Perhaps due to having consumed the blood of many ability users, her skin now appeared almost indistinguishable from that of an ordinary person at first glance, except for her eyes. However, upon closer inspection, a faint bluish-gray hue still lingered on her skin, not yet fully faded.
Now, venturing out without her wizard robe was a gamble betting on others having poor eyesight. Otherwise, she could easily be discovered and become a target.
“Does Senior like the seafood here?” Qiao Guoguo licked her lips, feeling a bit tempted. Despite the zombie outbreak, one silver lining was that aquatic creatures had not yet mutated, so there might still be some seafood to enjoy.
Their journey had not been without danger. Once, while staying overnight in a farmhouse, two zombie-infected yellow dogs suddenly lunged out from the shadows. Their bodies bore multiple bite marks, and they moved with agility and speed, making them far more lethal than ordinary zombies.
They had also encountered zombie rats, likely mutated from feeding on zombie flesh. This made Qiao Guoguo more aware of the issue of zombie corpses. If not properly handled, any creature that consumed zombie flesh or blood could turn into a zombie, exacerbating the problem.
Unfortunately, disposing of zombie corpses was extremely troublesome. Without a fire-based ability, they had to rely on large amounts of gasoline each time, and the rate at which it was consumed was truly disheartening.
After all, in the current situation, gasoline was an extremely precious resource. Even if it was used to dispose of zombie corpses, it still felt like a heartbreaking waste.
Later, Qiao Gaogao came up with a cunning idea. She pleaded with Yinxi for a long time before Yinxi finally agreed to store the zombie corpses in her space, take them to a crematorium, and incinerate them all at once. Turning them directly into ashes eliminated any threat.
However, Yinxi felt that her space had been contaminated, and she was so angry that she refused to consume anything from it for several days!
Before even getting off the highway, the two of them could already sense the terrifying scale of Haicheng. As one of the top metropolises in the country, its population density was unimaginable. With numerous universities located in the city and countless young people flocking to it, the city’s youthful demographic also meant that the zombies here were just as formidable as those in S City.
As soon as they heard the sound of their vehicle, the zombies swarmed toward them. Just as Yinxi was about to use her voice to drive them away, Qiao Gaogao stopped her, stepped on the accelerator, and plowed through the zombies to break free!
Nowadays, with more and more humans awakening their supernatural abilities, an increasing number of people understood the importance of supplies. In a metropolis like this, although zombies were abundant, the resources were also far more plentiful than in other places. It was inevitable that people would come here to scavenge for supplies, so it was best not to attract unwanted attention.
Yinxi sipped from her blood bag, now accustomed to the sight of zombies outside, which no longer affected her appetite.
Qiao Gaogao drove all the way to a seaside hotel. The zombies trailing behind their vehicle lunged at them with furious roars the moment the car stopped. The commotion was so loud that it attracted all the nearby zombies, swarming around them until the area was completely sealed off!
“Let’s get inside the hotel,” Qiao Gaogao said. The sky had already darkened, and after driving all day, she was exhausted. She didn’t want to engage with the zombies more than necessary, so she opted to avoid them. Once inside the hotel, she immediately erected an iron wall at the entrance!
They could still hear the zombies’ roars from outside the iron wall, but for now, the zombies couldn’t get in. As the noise died down, the zombies gradually returned to their aimless wandering.
As for whether there were zombies inside the hotel.
Qiao Gaogao quickly scanned the area and found no signs of zombies, so she didn’t bother checking every room one by one. After all, as long as they didn’t make too much noise, even if there were zombies inside the rooms, they wouldn’t come out.
The two of them chose a room on the seventh floor. After cleaning up with water from Yinxi’s space, they lay down on the soft, comfortable bed. Qiao Gaogao let out a contented sigh, she hadn’t had a proper rest in two or three days, mostly just catching quick naps in the car.
“Let’s stay here for a while,” Qiao Gaogao suggested. Constantly being on the move, no matter how exciting it was at first, had started to wear her out.
“Grrr!” Yinxi agreed. Even as a zombie, she felt sore and stiff after such a long car ride, let alone Qiao Gaogao, who had been driving the entire time.
“Senior, I’m going to sleep now. If you’re bored, you can read for a while,” Qiao Gaogao said drowsily. By now, she had realized that Yinxi didn’t need to sleep at night, so she no longer clung to her like an octopus, forcing her to lie in bed with her.
“Hoho!” Yinxi assured her to sleep peacefully, saying she would find something to do herself.
Feeling reassured, Qiaogao fell asleep. Given Yinxi’s current strength, as long as she wasn’t surrounded by multiple high-level zombies, she was unlikely to run into trouble. Dealing with ability users could be a bit tricky, but if they weren’t particularly powerful, she could always call on zombies to help beat them up.
After Qiaogao fell asleep, Yinxi lay awake, quietly watching her. Perhaps because of her naturally fair complexion, even after spending so much time outdoors, Qiaogao’s skin remained pale and delicate, showing little change.
Gazing at her long, curled eyelashes as she slept, Yinxi couldn’t help but smile, her eyes crinkling. Qiaogao looked especially adorable when asleep! Though she was already quite well-behaved when awake, in slumber, she carried an added innocence, pure as a child.
Since Qiaogao was sleeping, Yinxi didn’t want to turn on the light and disturb her. So, in the darkness, she stared blankly at her for a long time so long that she lost track of time. Faintly, she thought she heard some movement outside. Instantly alert, she propped herself up silently and slipped out of bed.
Barefoot, she moved noiselessly to the door, pressing her ear against it.
The sound of soft breathing reached her ears. Yinxi froze this was definitely not the kind of noise a zombie would make. There was someone outside!
For some reason, the person outside seemed to be checking the door before quietly retreating.
Seeing no ill intent, Yinxi relaxed. She went to the bathroom to wash her feet, then put on her slippers and returned to bed. Looking at Qiaogao’s still peacefully sleeping face, she broke into a smile and gently pulled her into her arms.
Holding Qiaogao felt so comfortable, like a soft, plush pillow!
Early in the morning, before the sky had fully brightened, Yinxi carefully got out of bed, changed her clothes, and leaned against the window, staring blankly at the distant sea. The water stretched endlessly, waves lapping at the shore, carrying a unique tranquility in the dim light of dawn.
It seemed that in this world now, only the sea remained truly clean.
She remembered when she had traveled to Haicheng with her parents. Not only had they enjoyed the local seafood, but they had also woken up early, carrying tools for beachcombing, to search for treasures along the shore.
Back then, the days her parents took time off work to take her out were rare, so she cherished every moment, and the memories remained vivid.
She still remembered the first thing she found, a tiny crab. Her mother had praised her, calling her the luckiest girl in the world.
She could still recall her mother’s warm smile and her father’s affectionate gaze as he watched them. Even as she grew older and their conversations dwindled, and though she resented them at times, she could never forget the kindness they had shown her.
She found it hard to believe that her gentle, polite parents could be connected to the zombie virus.
Yet, all the evidence pointed to Tai’an having intricate ties to the zombie virus. If her parents were merely unrelated researchers in the institute, why had they known about her condition from the start and tried to capture her?
And where were her parents now?
“Senpai~”
Just as she was lost in thought, a soft body pressed against her from behind, accompanied by a girl’s clingy, murmuring voice.
Yinxi’s expression softened, brightening with delight as she turned to embrace her. Seeing the lingering drowsiness on the girl’s face, she let out two low growls.
Qiao Gaogao nuzzled against her chest, whining, “My body clock just won’t adjust, what should I do?”
Nowadays, with this body clock of hers, she wouldn’t have to lament getting up for an 8 a.m. class anymore!
Yinxi ruffled her hair, pursed her lips thoughtfully, and growled twice.
Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy maybe it’s not so bad after all?
Qiao Gaogao sighed mournfully. Though that might be true, a world without the internet was truly hard to endure! So much fun had been lost all at once.
After comforting her, Yinxi brought up what had happened the night before there were others in this hotel, though they didn’t know which rooms they were in.
Qiao Gaogao scratched her head. “If they mean no harm, and with so many rooms in this hotel, we can just mind our own business.”
But no sooner had she spoken those words than Qiao Gaogao was proven wrong.
Their business was about to collide with others after all!
