She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 34
Seeing her frightened expression, Yinxi let out a proud, light hum, wearing a look that said, “Now you know to be scared, don’t you?”
Qiao Gaogao tremblingly raised her right hand, then lifted her left, and in front of Yinxi, slapped her own right paw!
“It deserves it! It really does! How dare it pinch you, Senior!”
As she spoke, she stole a glance at Yinxi out of the corner of her eye, hoping to see when she would start to feel sorry for her.
Watching her hit herself, Yinxi immediately frowned. She grabbed Qiao Gaogao’s left hand and gave her a light glare, then took her right hand and blew on it gently. Seeing the clear red mark left behind, she let out a low growl at her.
Qiao Gaogao’s eyes sparkled as she looked at her. “Senior, are you not angry anymore?”
Yinxi hummed lightly and ignored her.
Qiao Gaogao narrowed her eyes and smiled, looking quite pleased with herself. It seemed Senior really did care about her, just a little act like that had made her worry.
When the two finished bathing and went to bed, they wore only pajamas, no undergarments. Being lovers, lying together like this, it was impossible to remain completely unaffected. So, after Yinxi finished blowing on her hand, Qiao Gaogao lay on the bed, propping her cheeks with her hands, and smiled at Yinxi, saying, “Senior, can I still touch you in the future?”
Her earlier touch had been a sneaky surprise attack, but now she was asking co uld she get permission to touch her every time from now on?
In an instant, Yinxi’s entire body seemed to heat up. She widened her eyes in disbelief, opening her mouth but unsure how to respond.
Even though they were in a relationship, she was a zombie now!
“Grrr…”
Qiao Gaogao pouted and poked Yinxi’s skin with her fingertip. “What kind of zombie are you anyway? I don’t feel like there’s anything wrong, so why are you reacting more strongly than I am?”
She didn’t feel like she was kissing a corpse, so why did Senior always think of herself as one?
Yinxi turned over, lying with her back to Qiao Gaogao, pursing her lips, unwilling to let her see how she looked now.
Although she was different from ordinary zombies, her body, her eyes, and her inability to speak none of it was like a normal person’s.
Qiao Gaogao pressed against her from behind, wrapping her arms around her and draping one leg over her, coaxing softly, “Don’t be upset. If you don’t like me touching you, I promise I won’t do it again, okay?”
“Grrr…”
Yinxi let out a soft growl.
Qiao Gaogao narrowed her eyes and smiled, holding her even tighter. “Okay~ I’ll definitely let you know beforehand from now on~”
Yinxi hummed softly, turned to face Qiao Gaogao, and patted her back as if soothing her to sleep.
Qiao Gaogao smiled secretly, closed her eyes, and drifted off peacefully in her arms.
When she woke up in the morning and finished washing up, Yinxi conscientiously took out a bag of blood and began drinking it slowly. She could feel the subtle changes in her body after consuming the blood of an ability-user. Even her bluish-gray skin was gradually lightening. She even suspected that as she drank more blood, she might eventually return to looking like a normal person.
Since Yinxi no longer needed to eat regular food, Qiao Gaogao had started to make do with her own meals. In the morning, a piece of bread and a carton of milk were enough. Only when Yinxi stared at her intently would she take the time to prepare something better for herself.
“Senior, let’s go out for a casual stroll,” Qiao Gaogao said, mumbling through a mouthful of bread.
As for the authorities and for Taian Biotech, they had no leads whatsoever, leaving them with nothing to do but wander aimlessly. The only thing they could do now was kill more zombies to enhance their strength.
Yinxi finished a bag of blood and took out another, nodding in agreement.
She also needed to boost her abilities, but at the moment, she wasn’t even sure what aspects of her strength could be improved. All she could do was drink more blood.
After breakfast, Yinxi went to rinse her mouth. Once everything was ready, the two of them got into the car and began driving around the town. They no longer bothered clearing out the ordinary zombies, as these zombies not only failed to enhance their abilities but could even expose their whereabouts if too many were eliminated.
However, along the way, they managed to scavenge quite a few supplies. When Yinxi stored those items in her spatial storage, the gleam in her eyes was almost blinding.
Qiao Gaogao was also delighted. Yinxi’s spatial storage was time-stilled, so there was no fear of the items spoiling. In fact, it even helped extend their shelf life.
Later, they arrived at the town’s pedestrian street. Although there were quite a few zombies wandering around, it wasn’t yet at the point of being terrifying. However, as the zombie outbreak dragged on, more and more zombies were evolving into those with gray nuclei. At this rate, ordinary people would soon have no chance of survival against these zombies.
By the time they left the pedestrian street, Yinxi’s spatial storage had gained quite a few new nuclei. Yet, Qiao Gaogao felt it wasn’t enough. Given her current strength, gray nuclei were hardly of any help to her, let alone to Yinxi. For Yinxi, the effect was even less than drinking an ordinary bag of blood.
Although the entire town was permeated with an aura of death, they still found traces of survivors for instance, the piles of garbage stacked against building walls, or the vegetables growing on some balconies and in courtyards, their vibrant green appearance clearly well-tended.
Even though they knew there were survivors, they didn’t disturb them. In these times, the greatest unspoken agreement among people was probably to leave each other alone when there was no urgent need.
The two had no intention of staying in the town for long. Instead, they drove purposefully toward more remote areas. It stood to reason that neither the authorities nor Taian would establish their bases in densely populated areas.
Of course, if they had the capability to clear out an entire city of zombies, that would be a different story.
As they moved farther from the city center, they began to see more rural self-built houses. Almost every household had their doors tightly shut, and some roadsides were littered with zombie corpses, long since decayed and infested with maggots under the scorching heat, emitting a foul stench.
The village they arrived at this time had no barriers to prevent outsiders from entering. Along the way, they saw farmland and vegetable patches overgrown with weeds, clearly neglected for a long time.
Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow at the sight of those crops. In this devastated world, survival itself was a challenge, and productivity had all but vanished. Under such circumstances, fresh vegetables and fruits had become rare luxuries.
Moreover, there weren’t many young people these days who knew how to farm or grow vegetables, and Qiao Gaogao could almost imagine the hardships that lay ahead.
Exchanging a glance, the two decided to stop in the village for the time being. They drove around the area to get a rough idea of which houses were still occupied. Afterward, Qiao Gaogao headed to the village committee office, cleared out a few zombies inside, and found the broadcasting room to give it a try.
It turned out the village had no electricity.
Qiao Gaogao was momentarily stunned. She had assumed rural areas would have their own power stations, and since the village wasn’t severely damaged, she thought there might still be electricity.
In the end, she found a loudspeaker in the village committee office. Holding it, she looked somewhat awkwardly at Yinxi.
Yinxi clasped her hands behind her back, her eyes darting around everywhere except at Qiao Gaogao.
Feeling a bit embarrassed but having no other choice, Qiao Gaogao resorted to this low-tech method. After figuring out how to use the loudspeaker, she recorded a message and set it to loop.
Their plan was to clear out all the zombies in the area, allowing the surviving residents to venture outside, reclaim the abandoned land, and become self-sufficient so they wouldn’t starve later on.
However, such a large-scale zombie cleanup would inevitably cause a commotion, so she had to ensure no one would wander out recklessly during the process.
As the loudspeaker blared repeatedly, not only did it catch the attention of people, but zombies also began chasing after their car.
Yinxi held the loudspeaker out the window, watching the zombies mindlessly follow them. She couldn’t help but squint and laugh they looked so foolish, and she felt grateful for her own cleverness.
Many people who heard the noise cautiously cracked open their windows to peek outside, curious about these unexpected visitors.
After luring the zombies to the outskirts of the village, Qiao Gaogao began the large-scale cleanup. The sheer number of zombies meant that by the time they were all eliminated, the ground was soaked and muddy with their blood, leaving no clean place to step.
Seeing this, Yinxi absolutely refused to get out of the car. Qiao Gaogao’s own shoes were filthy and disgusting, so before getting back in, she kicked them off and left them behind, thus avoiding any complaints.
To avoid unnecessary complications, Yinxi had put on a robe resembling a wizard’s cloak, a loose, black garment with a large hood that concealed her entirely.
Taking in her appearance, Qiao Gaogao burst out laughing, her almond-shaped eyes crinkling. “Senior, do you know what you look like right now?”
Yinxi looked at her, puzzled.
Qiao Gaogao smiled sweetly, her eyes sparkling.
“Like a dark witch. It’s as if you’re about to pull out a potion any second now.”
Yinxi: “…”
“Grrr!”
She growled at her in annoyance. Who was it that told her to cover up in the first place? And now that she was covered, Qiao Gaogao had the nerve to mock her!
“Don’t be mad, you’re an incredibly beautiful dark witch!” Qiao Gaogao cooed softly.
Yinxi shot her a sharp glare. Even if she was being complimented, it didn’t change the fact that Qiao Gaogao was making fun of her for looking like a witch!
Qiao Gaogao leaned in to give her a kiss, then carefully adjusted her hood, whispering, “Be careful later and try not to let them see you.”
Most of the villagers were still ordinary people, and if they caught a glimpse of her senior’s appearance, explaining it would be a hassle.
Yinxi let out a muffled grumble but eventually agreed.
Qiao Gaogao changed into a fresh pair of shoes and went to clear out the few remaining zombies in the village. Only after that did he use a loudspeaker to announce that the zombies had been eliminated and it was safe for everyone to come out.
With the zombies dealt with, he figured the villagers would know what to do next, so he didn’t linger. After giving a few instructions and declining the villagers’ offers of supplies, he quickly got into the car and drove away.
Having caused such a commotion, they needed to move fast to avoid drawing the attention of the Tai’an group.
Yinxi stared at Gaogao’s shock of white hair. While her identity as a zombie was quite distinctive, she also thought Gaogao’s white hair was just as recognizable.
If anyone were to put a bounty on them, they’d probably be easy to spot.
