She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 25.1
Qiao Gaogao might not know the reason behind Yinxi’s weakness and decline, but Yinxi herself had a rough idea. However, she had never shared her suspicions with Qiao Gaogao.
On one hand, she was worried that Qiao Gaogao might do something reckless; on the other, she hadn’t yet come to terms with it herself. She still firmly believed she was human.
Having decided to set out in search of Yinxi’s parents, Qiao Gaogao took advantage of the base’s internet connection to memorize the entire route to S City. At the same time, they had a lot of preparations to make.
S City was comparable to Z City in terms of population, which meant the number of zombies there would undoubtedly be much higher than in other places. Besides weapons, their vehicle also needed to be highly capable.
Fortunately, among her senior brothers and sisters, there were car enthusiasts with a passion for modifying vehicles. Their skills were naturally excellent. Once all the necessary materials were gathered, one of them directly transformed a rugged off-road vehicle with a strong defensive feel.
On the day of their departure, almost everyone came to see them off. Seeing the worry on their faces, Qiao Gaogao waved her hand in farewell. After helping Yinxi into the passenger seat, she quickly got into the car herself. Without looking back, she stepped on the gas and drove out of the resort.
No one knew what lay ahead, and no one could predict what would happen on this journey. But Qiao Gaogao was certain of one thing: if she didn’t set out, she would regret it for the rest of her life.
Yinxi sat in the passenger seat, clearly anxious but too listless to react. After Qiao Gaogao helped fasten her seatbelt, she remained completely still.
During a break in driving, Qiao Gaogao glanced at her and grew increasingly worried at her lack of response.
During this time, she had tried feeding Yinxi zombie crystals, but aside from making her body slightly more agile, the crystals only temporarily slowed her decline. Overall, they hadn’t made much of a difference.
The distance from H City to S City was at least 2,700 kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it would take nearly 30 hours of driving to get there. In the current situation, it was hard to say how long it would actually take.
After leaving the resort, the two arrived at the city center of H City, an area their base had not yet explored. Qiao Gaogao wanted to try her luck. Although zombie crystals didn’t have a significant effect on Yinxi’s condition, they could at least slow her decline. With such a long journey ahead, she needed enough crystals to replenish Yinxi’s energy. At the same time, clearing out some zombies would make it safer for the base’s members when they came later.
“Senior, wait here for me and don’t go out, okay?” Qiao Gaogao reminded Yinxi before getting out of the car. Initially, she thought zombies wouldn’t attack Yinxi because they didn’t attack each other. But after witnessing zombies feeding on other zombies, she no longer held that belief and didn’t dare let Yinxi face them.
Yinxi looked at her, concern evident in her eyes.
“Don’t worry, if I can’t fight them off, I’ll just run!” Qiao Gaogao leaned over and planted a loud kiss on her cheek, grinning proudly.
Yinxi: “…” How could she bring herself to kiss me in my current state?
Yinxi herself was at a loss, but looking at Qiao Gaogao’s unchanged expression, she sighed deeply in her heart. Right now, she really wanted to know just how many layers of filters Qiao Gaogao had placed over her in her mind.
Qiao Gaogao had no idea what Yinxi was thinking at that moment. After getting out of the car, she began clearing the nearby zombies. Her supernatural abilities had grown increasingly powerful, and dealing with ordinary zombies was as simple as a wave of her hand.
She swiftly made her way to the commercial district of H City. With so many zombies, it was impossible to eliminate them all at once, so her main goal was to lure out the higher-level ones.
Qiao Gaogao stood atop a tall building. She had already cleared all the zombies inside, having hunted three with gray crystals in their brains. To make herself more conspicuous and attract even higher-level zombies, she needed to stand out.
“Roar!”
“Roar! Roar!”
One after another, the roars of zombies echoed around, filling the air with the stench of decay. Qiao Gaogao clearly noticed several zombies beginning to climb up the building’s exterior walls. These were the zombies with a certain level of intelligence and crystals in their brains.
Ordinary zombies hadn’t yet mastered the skill of climbing walls.
Qiao Gaogao waited for them to ascend. Without the swarming attacks of the common zombies, dealing with these few was much easier.
After driving a spike into the brain of the last zombie, seven crystals fell into her hand. She walked to the edge of the rooftop and looked down at the swarming zombies below. With such a high concentration, it was unlikely that only gray-crystal zombies were present. After all, even a small town’s farmers’ market had produced zombies with slightly brownish crystals.
She had noticed before that zombies with brownish crystals clearly possessed higher intelligence. When they first lured the zombies out of the farmers’ market, one of them hadn’t left but instead lay in ambush inside.
Qiao Gaogao pondered for a long time but couldn’t figure out how to lure it out. Or perhaps there simply weren’t any brown-crystal-level zombies here?
In the end, she decided not to dwell on it any longer. Turning around, she prepared to head downstairs and return to Yinxi.
However, as she reached the tenth floor, something with only half a body suddenly burst through the emergency door, lunging at her with a ferocious snarl!
Instinctively, Qiao Gaogao raised her arm to block, and a metal shield materialized out of thin air. With a sharp “clang,” the creature was halted for a second. In that brief moment, Qiao Gaogao quickly retreated to a more advantageous position and turned to face the zombie.
The moment she got a clear look, Qiao Gaogao froze momentarily. It truly was a zombie with only half a body everything from the waist down was missing. Judging by the clean cut of the wound, it seemed to have been severed by a sharp blade. Its movements relied entirely on its two arms.
If it were just its appearance, Qiao Gaogao wouldn’t have been so surprised. What shocked her was that she had seen this zombie before!
When she first entered the commercial district, she had spotted this zombie lying motionless beside a statue, as if dead. She never expected it to ambush her here!
Glancing at her metal shield, she saw several deep claw marks, nearly piercing straight through it.
Staring at the zombie crawling on the ground, a fervent gleam gradually ignited in Qiao Gaogao’s eyes. Without waiting for the zombie to attack, she charged forward, wielding her shield like a cleaver and slashing its sharp edge directly toward the zombie’s neck!
“Roar!”
The zombie let out a furious roar, its two arms scrambling rapidly across the ground. Despite having only two limbs, its agility surpassed even that of zombies with all four limbs intact!
Witnessing such nimbleness, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but feel envious. If only her senior could possess this level of agility. With movements this swift, surely the zombie’s crystal core could enhance her own flexibility, right?
Qiao Gaogao honestly admitted, she was covetous.
“Roar!”
The zombie swiftly crawled toward Qiao Gaogao, who flipped nimbly onto the stair railing. At the same time, she hurled her iron shield straight at the zombie!
“Thud!”
The sound of metal piercing flesh echoed as Qiao Gaogao’s strike cleanly severed half of the zombie’s arm!
The zombie seemed to freeze for a moment, glancing down at its severed limb before lifting its head to glare at Qiao Gaogao. Its face twisted into an extreme grimace, and its originally dull, yellowish eyes flushed with a bloody hue as it let out a piercing, shrill roar.
“Ugh!”
A sharp pain shot through Qiao Gaogao’s brain, causing her to sway momentarily. In that brief lapse, a searing pain erupted in her arm as the zombie tore off a chunk of her flesh!
If not for Qiao Gaogao’s quick reflexes, the zombie would likely have ripped off her entire arm in retaliation for its own severed limb.
The torn piece of flesh was immediately shoved into the zombie’s mouth and swallowed greedily, its frantic demeanor resembling someone devouring a rare delicacy. With a look of satisfaction on its face, it cast a covetous glare at Qiao Gaogao.
“Roar!”
Ignoring her injured arm, Qiao Gaogao hadn’t anticipated the zombie’s psychic attack earlier. Now prepared, she wouldn’t let its roars affect her as severely.
“Stop roaring! It’s disgusting!” Qiao Gaogao metallized her entire arm and slammed it forcefully into the zombie!
The zombie tried to dodge, but Qiao Gaogao had already predicted its movement. With one punch, she crushed half of its shoulder, rendering it completely limp!
“Roar!” The zombie roared furiously. The scent of Qiao Gaogao’s blood hung in the air, exerting an irresistible allure. Disregarding its paralyzed half of the body, the zombie relied solely on its remaining arm, using whatever objects it could grasp to propel itself toward Qiao Gaogao with astonishing agility!
After surviving a high fever following a zombie bite, Qiao Gaogao had felt her abilities grow significantly stronger. Coupled with the crystal core Yinxi had fed her and the numerous zombies she’d slain recently, her mastery over her powers had become increasingly refined. Though the zombie before her posed a challenge, it was also an opportunity for growth.
The stairwell was already cramped, and when the opponent lunged at her, Qiao Gaogao stepped onto the handrail, leaping into the air to evade the attack while positioning herself behind the zombie. With a sharp dagger in hand, she thrust it into the back of the zombie’s neck at a ruthless speed, severing the connected bones in one swift motion. After rendering the zombie immobile, she drove the blade even deeper into its brain!
Thud!
