She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 22
Yinxi sucked gently. The quickest method would have been to bite directly, but as she looked at the wound, she couldn’t bear to cause any more harm. She had no choice but to suck slowly.
Qiao Gaogao’s skin had finally returned to its normal color, but she remained unconscious. However, her scorching body temperature had dropped slightly.
Qi Miao fetched water for Yinxi to rinse her mouth, while Qiao Muyi, forcing herself to stay alert, began wiping the blood around Qiao Gaogao’s wound. She then picked up a suture needle and started stitching the injury.
For those who practiced martial arts like them, injuries were commonplace, and they were generally capable of handling external wounds on their own.
As Yinxi watched the curved needle pierce Qiao Gaogao’s soft skin, she felt deeply unsettled. Yet, she couldn’t intervene such a large wound would easily tear open again if left unstitched.
Especially now, with no access to medical treatment, it was crucial to prevent the wound from becoming infected or inflamed.
After painstakingly stitching Qiao Gaogao’s wound, Qiao Muyi’s hands trembled uncontrollably once she stopped.
As Qiao Gaogao’s mother, having to stitch her own daughter’s skin with a needle was an unbearable ordeal.
Qiao Gaogao remained unconscious, but they couldn’t all stay idle. Qiao Muyi instructed Yinxi and Qi Miao to stay and care for Qiao Gaogao while she attended to other matters.
Yinxi sat by the bedside, staring blankly at Qiao Gaogao, her face etched with worry and grievance. She had waited so eagerly for her safe return, how could things have turned out like this?
“Xiao Yin,” Qi Miao gently patted her head, at a loss for words. If only she had been stronger, perhaps Gaogao wouldn’t have suffered such a severe injury.
Yinxi looked up, mimed wiping with a cloth, and pointed at Qiao Gaogao.
Qi Miao immediately understood and hurried to fetch a basin of warm water. She was about to start wiping Qiao Gaogao herself, but Yinxi stopped her.
Pursing her lips and looking tense, Yinxi avoided Qi Miao’s gaze, but her intention was clear.
Qi Miao chuckled understandingly and tactfully left the room, closing the door behind her.
Only after Qi Miao had left did Yinxi relax slightly. She glanced shyly at Qiao Gaogao. Even though they had seen each other unclothed more than once during this time, she still felt a bit flustered every time.
Suppressing her embarrassment, Yinxi used her nails to carefully remove Qiao Gaogao’s clothes. Seeing the bruises covering her body, Yinxi’s lips trembled, and she felt the urge to cry.
She soaked a towel, wrung it out, and began gently wiping Qiao Gaogao’s body, carefully avoiding the injured areas. As she did so, the tight furrow in Qiao Gaogao’s brow eased slightly, and she let out a soft, contented murmur.
Hearing this, Yinxi thought she had woken up, but upon closer inspection, she realized Qiao Gaogao’s eyes were still tightly shut. However, her expression seemed much more relaxed than before.
Delighted by this change, Yinxi finished wiping her clean, draped a thin blanket over her, and sat by her side to keep her company.
As evening approached, Papa Qiao and the others returned. Upon hearing what had happened, they immediately rushed to check on Qiao Gaogao, who was still unconscious, though her body temperature had already dropped.
The nearly two-meter-tall man nearly collapsed when he saw his precious daughter lying unconscious on the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
“What are you crying for? She’s not dead yet! Wipe those tears away before you really cry her to death!” Qiao Muyi slapped Papa Qiao on the head, tossed two tissues at his face, and then went to Qiao Gaogao’s side to channel her special ability into her.
Although the effect wasn’t particularly strong, it was better than nothing.
Papa Qiao’s tears were abruptly halted by the slap. He wiped his face hastily and hurried over to Qiao Muyi, cautiously asking for an update.
“Our team doesn’t have a proper doctor. Gaogao will have to tough it out on her own,” Qiao Muyi said, her expression clearly troubled. In their current situation, where could they even find a doctor? The hospitals had likely been overrun long ago.
Papa Qiao punched the wall, his face flushed red with self-blame for his own helplessness.
Qiao Muyi didn’t stop him from venting this time. Only after channeling all her remaining energy into Qiao Gaogao did she release her hand, gently smoothing the hair from her forehead.
She had already learned the full story from Qi Miao and the others, and it was clear that the situation was far from optimistic.
Qiao Gaogao, the strongest fighter in their team, had to pay such a heavy price just to eliminate that zombie.
The zombie virus outbreak hadn’t even lasted a week! Wasn’t the rate of evolution a bit too terrifying?
Given these circumstances, did humanity even stand a chance?
This question weighed on everyone’s minds. Although the government had sent them a message, aside from that one text, they hadn’t seen any concrete actions from the authorities.
No one knew how the government was planning its strategy, but based on the current situation, it didn’t inspire much confidence.
During dinner, Qi Ji brought the food in and, at the same time, shared another piece of good news: Tongtong, the young girl from the mother-daughter pair that Qiao Gaogao and the others had rescued, had awakened a water-based ability. With Qi Miao included, they now had a total of five ability users.
While this would have been cause for celebration before, now it only added to their underlying worries.
The rate at which humans were awakening abilities couldn’t keep up with the zombies’ evolution!
Still, awakening an ability was ultimately a good thing. When Zhou Yan and her daughter came to visit Qiao Gaogao, Yinxi’s gaze lingered on Tongtong.
She suddenly found Tongtong smelled quite appealing too.
It struck her everyone she found particularly “fragrant” so far had been ability users. Did that mean ability users were more “edible” in the eyes of zombies?
Late at night, after everyone had left, Yinxi lay by the bedside, watching Qiao Gaogao’s profile. The usually vibrant, sun-like Gaogao now lay completely unresponsive, and Yinxi couldn’t adjust to it at all.
She much preferred Gaogao when she was full of life and energy.
She waited and waited, until deep into the night, when Qiao Gaogao suddenly let out a soft moan, her eyelids twitching.
Upon hearing the noise, Yinxi immediately checked on her. As she lifted her gaze, it met Qiaogao’s, and in that instant, Yinxi froze briefly before pouting.
The moment Qiaogao saw Yinxi, she knew she must have been brought back to the resort. Seeing Yinxi looking so aggrieved now made Qiaogao grit her teeth in frustration.
If it weren’t for that zombie, how could she have been so badly injured!
If she hadn’t been injured, would her senior have been so worried!
