She Seems to Struggle with Having a Wife - Chapter 29
In the film, the two female leads first got intimate in a car. Having drunk a little, their emotions and feelings aligned perfectly. They started with a kiss, and then things escalated uncontrollably. The background music was heavy yet fervent, much like the suppressed yet unrestrained turbulence inside the car.
As their emotions and the music intensified, the two shifted from lying down in the backseat to sitting up. One woman closed her eyes and tilted her head back, her long hair cascading like a waterfall behind her. One hand rested on the other’s shoulder, while the other braced against the backseat. She lowered her gaze, her eyes hazy as if lost in a fog.
The camera panned downward to the other woman in front of her, whose free left hand supported her swaying waist.
This scene was shot with both beauty and ambiguity, set in a remote village, inside a quiet car, where emotions didn’t need to be suppressed, and even their breaths were captivating. The two viewers watched intently, their own breathing slowing unconsciously.
After it ended, the two embraced and curled up together in the backseat, covered by a coat. The surroundings and the car’s interior were serene and peaceful. Without saying a word, their caresses became the best expression of their feelings in that moment.
As the background music faded, Qin Mu gradually relaxed her tense expression, but an unbearable heat surged through her body, not unlike the fire Wei Qing’an had stirred in her earlier in the elevator. Unconsciously, Qin Mu stole a glance at the person beside her and was struck by her beauty, her gaze lingering a little longer.
Wei Qing’an had her hair tucked behind her ears, her fair skin as smooth as porcelain. The line of her jaw was firm and taut, without an ounce of excess flesh. Her slightly lowered lashes fluttered gently with focus, and her eyes slightly alluring, like a fox’s held a captivating charm.
Wei Qing’an’s appearance wasn’t gentle; instead, it leaned toward a striking, cold beauty with deep-set eyes. Coupled with her nearsightedness, her gaze always seemed to carry a hint of deep affection.
Those who spent more time with Wei Qing’an would realize that her face and her personality were quite mismatched.
When Wei Qing’an wasn’t speaking or expressing much, she came across as an aloof yet soft beauty especially when her eyelids drooped, revealing a trace of melancholy that made others feel an intense desire to protect her and never let her be hurt.
But the moment she opened her mouth, she came off as a bit silly.
And deliberately distant.
Although she had this unexpected contrast, it was something only known to those close to her. Back in school, many fell for Wei Qing’an at first sight, mainly because she had that senior vibe she knew how to dress and style herself. Just standing there with one hand in her pocket was enough to be enticing, and her smiling eyes could make anyone blush. Secondly, she was charismatic, with high emotional and intellectual intelligence, and came from a good background.
Qin Mu remembered how Xiao Xi had added Wei Qing’an as a friend and even saw photos of her abs on her social media her figure was impressive.
Perhaps due to work, after marrying Qin Mu, Wei Qing’an rarely wore makeup, and her clothes were mostly casual. Dresses and high heels were stored away in the closet; if Qin Mu didn’t occasionally tidy up and move them, they might not be touched all year. So, in daily life, she didn’t give off that same captivating aura.
Especially tonight with those flip-flops, they definitely didn’t match the “aloof” image and felt more homey.
The movie continued to play. Qin Mu stared at Wei Qing’an for a while, her mind unsettled, before turning back to the film.
Wei Qing’an was watching intently when her phone, placed nearby, buzzed with a WeChat notification. She picked it up and saw it was from Xiao Chen.
Gao Jingchen: Are you free tomorrow? Let’s meet up and talk.
Gao Jingchen: It’s about Qin Mu.
Wei Qing’an’s previously restless heart felt as if Gao Jingchen had abruptly poured a bucket of cold water over it, drenching her completely.
She turned off her phone and didn’t look at it again.
Her expression turned gloomy, and a chill crept into her heart.
The movie reached its climax, where the two protagonists overcame their inner obstacles and finally mustered the courage to run toward each other, embracing and kissing on a bustling street. Though the film was artistic, Qin Mu found their love story romantic, passionate, and sincere.
Lily-themed films are always better when directed by women.
Whether it’s emotions or subtle tensions, they are portrayed with greater delicacy.
As the end credits rolled, Qin Mu took a deep breath, threw off the covers, and got out of bed. She went to the bathroom and, upon returning, happened to catch Wei Qing’an turning her head and glimpsing Qin Mu’s striking figure in the dim light, her long legs swaying as she walked slowly back.
Qin Mu climbed back into bed and turned to ask Wei Qing’an if she wanted to sleep, but a warm hand wrapped around the curve of her waist and hip. Sensing the touch, Qin Mu lifted her gaze and met Wei Qing’an’s captivating, smiling eyes.
The atmosphere shifted instantly, and Qin Mu stiffened her back.
Under the covers, Wei Qing’an pressed close, soft and boneless, enveloping Qin Mu in her embrace, holding her hand while deliberately deepening her breaths against Qin Mu’s cheek.
Wei Qing’an parted her lips, gently brushing them against the corner of Qin Mu’s mouth, her eyelids drooping naturally. Qin Mu’s startled gaze was captured in her eyes. She could have stopped, but the image of Xiao Chenzi lingered incessantly in her mind. With a sinking heart, Wei Qing’an reluctantly parted her lips and captured Qin Mu’s lower lip.
In an instant, both held their breath.
Qin Mu stared at her blankly, too stunned to react. Their cool noses touched, yet the sensation was scorching. She wondered, Why so sudden?
In the bedroom, on the bed, both wore thin sleepwear. Behind them, the suggestive nighttime film played they had just watched an intense movie, and now their bodies and lips were soft, ready to melt at the slightest touch.
Isn’t she afraid? Qin Mu mused.
“Mmm.”
Wei Qing’an had no intention of seeking Qin Mu’s consent. After capturing her lips, she cupped the back of Qin Mu’s neck and began kissing her deeply and shallowly by turns. Her soft tongue unexpectedly pried open Qin Mu’s lips, mimicking the forceful kiss Qin Mu had given her last time, returning every bit of it.
As if on purpose.
Pinned against the headboard, Qin Mu raised her right hand to grip Wei Qing’an’s forearm, her brow furrowed. As she endured Wei Qing’an’s kisses, she marveled at how different she seemed tonight as if she wanted to devour her whole.
Qin Mu could feel her scorching breath and the unusual intensity of her emotions. What’s gotten into her? Was she stirred by the movie’s plot? But this reaction is a bit too immediate.
Sitting up, Qin Mu was pulled into a side-lying embrace. Wei Qing’an leaned over her, her grasp on Qin Mu’s wrist firm and unyielding. Qin Mu winced in pain, furrowing her brow as she struggled free, leaving a red mark on her wrist.
No sooner had she freed her hand than the kisses resumed, relentless and endless. Qin Mu couldn’t understand what had come over her tonight.
Wei Qing’an’s kisses were chaotic and unpracticed. Qin Mu endured them, responding earnestly, but Wei Qing’an seemed interested only in kissing and nothing more. Overwhelmed by the intensity, Qin Mu seized Wei Qing’an’s wrist, placed her left hand on Wei Qing’an’s waist, and with a surge of strength, flipped their positions, pressing down on her instead.
Wei Qing’an’s dazed eyes snapped open in surprise, gazing at Qin Mu as her rationality snapped like a broken string, chaotic noises ringing in her mind.
The shift in momentum brought a change in both their states of mind.
They lay sideways across the bed, the headboard to their right.
Qin Mu, now in the dominant position, began to take control. She pinned Wei Qing’an’s hands above her head, looked down at her for a moment, then pressed her rosy lips against Wei Qing’an’s. Though not as forceful as Wei Qing’an had been earlier, her kiss was even more overwhelming than Wei Qing’an’s possessive one.
The long kiss finally ended after what felt like an eternity.
Qin Mu pulled away from her thin lips, breathing softly. In that moment of mental blankness, unsure of what to think, Qin Mu hesitated briefly. She didn’t know if this was right or wrong. They had been married for a year, even without love, they were bound by marriage, so such intimacy wasn’t entirely inappropriate.
In a way, their situation mirrored the “marriage before love” trope from novels. Whether love would blossom later remained unknown; no one could say for sure. Qin Mu had no confidence that Wei Qing’an would ever fall for her but she could love Wei Qing’an now. Besides, Wei Qing’an had initiated things tonight, if anyone should regret it, it shouldn’t be her.
Having reasoned this through, Qin Mu lowered her head again, trailing kisses from those thin lips to the cool earlobe, her teeth gently nibbling.
Wei Qing’an turned her head and shrank back, her face flushed with silent indignation. As the older one, she felt she shouldn’t be in the submissive role. She struggled to flip Qin Mu back underneath her, but whether due to Qin Mu’s regular workouts or not, her strength was surprisingly firm. Wei Qing’an tried pushing several times without success, even though Qin Mu didn’t seem to be restraining her forcefully.
A wave of frustration washed over her.
The covers were inadvertently pushed aside, and a chill suddenly swept in. Feeling cold, Wei Qing’an shifted closer to the headboard. Sensing this, Qin Mu, worried the night air might give her a cold, thoughtfully reached over and pulled the blanket back over them.
Perhaps the evening’s clouds were too heavy, or the movie too artsy, or maybe the atmosphere had simply peaked neither spoke a word in between. Wei Qing’an stubbornly kept her mouth shut, yet Qin Mu adored this reserved side of her immensely.
The projector turned off, plunging the room into complete darkness without a sliver of light. With nothing left to hold back, they let go.
Wei Qing’an lifted her chin, closed her thin lips, her long hair cascading over the bedside, nearly brushing the carpet. Her hands clung to Qin Mu’s shoulders, just as Qin Mu had reluctantly received her kiss earlier now Wei Qing’an accepted Qin Mu’s silent intensity.
The movie reached its end, but their story seemed to be just beginning.
That night, they lost themselves.
Ending the absurd encounter in the most primal way.
10 a.m. the next day.
It was the weekend, so Qin Mu didn’t have work, but Wei Qing’an had woken early and gone to the office. Having been away on a business trip for three days, she had a backlog of work and wanted to catch up. She left without a word to Qin Mu, only sending a WeChat message.
Qin Mu woke up, rolled over, and reached out only to find empty space. She opened her eyes, and for the first time, her gaze met not the floor-to-ceiling window but the white walls and cabinets they had slept sideways across the bed last night. The blankets and sheets were now hopelessly tangled.
The floor-to-ceiling window remained closed, leaving the bedroom shrouded in darkness. Qin Mu lay prone, her head resting on her arm, long hair cascading down her back. The gray blanket pooled around her waist, leaving her smooth back marked with a few red streaks and elegant shoulder blades exposed to the air. Her beautiful eyes stared vacantly, unfocused and lost in thought.
Last night, she had spent it with Wei Qing’an.
Qin Mu was carefully piecing together the memories.
They had been watching a movie together, but when it ended, Wei Qing’an had unexpectedly kissed her. She had responded in kind and then she had taken the lead with Wei Qing’an. It happened only once; when she tried for a second time, Wei Qing’an refused, and they had turned away from each other to sleep.
After lying there reminiscing for a while, Qin Mu pushed herself up with her hands, her feet sinking into the carpet. She bent down to pick up her nightgown and slipped it on, then walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and drew back the curtains. A wave of bright, warm sunlight rushed in, making her blink and turn away. She headed to the bathroom.
After her shower, Qin Mu stripped the bed, replacing both the sheets and duvet cover with fresh ones, and stuffed the old set into the washing machine. She also sorted out the clothes from the previous day that needed dry cleaning, planning to drop them off at the cleaners in the afternoon.
For lunch, Qin Mu cooked for herself but didn’t message Wei Qing’an. Wei Qing’an didn’t reach out to her either. It seemed the dynamic between them had shifted significantly because of what happened last night. She just didn’t know whether it was for the better or for the worse.
