She Said That Kisses and Hugs Are Needed for Redemption [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 31
“Bang!” Chi Xingcen slammed heavily onto the ground, a small cry of pain escaping her lips.
However, Chi Xianrang, in the depths of his fury, was in no mood to let her off. He gave a cold look to the person standing beside him, who immediately stepped forward, preparing to seize Chi Xingcen.
“The Chi family will not dwell on today’s events,” Chi Xianrang said, putting away his indifferent expression and speaking with a hint of flattery to the Eldest Young Master of the Ming family. “Since the two juniors have already been engaged in front of everyone, then my daughter is now a member of the Ming family. After today, let her go to the Ming residence first to foster feelings with the Young Master Ming.”
In his eyes, Alphas were all fond of beauty; there was no way they would refuse an Omega delivered to their doorstep. As long as his daughter was sent into the Ming family, he could obtain the shares the Old Master had allocated to Chi Xingcen.
Ming Yanchen nodded. Today, both families had lost too much face because of that scoundrel; he could not allow him to marry some nanny’s daughter and further blacken the Ming family’s reputation.
“Yanxiu acted wrongly today and mistreated Miss Chi,” Ming Yanchen stated, having reached a decision. “I will return and discuss this with my mother before paying a formal visit.”
Upon hearing this, Chi Xianrang breathed a sigh of relief, understanding that the marriage was settled.
“Ah!” Just as the two finished their plotting, a cry of surprise erupted from ahead.
Hurriedly looking up, they saw that while many people had already left the vast hall, some were moving slowly and had not yet exited. They stood watching the scene unfolding on the long platform.
An Alpha in a black suit had grabbed the hand of the Chi family servant who was reaching for Chi Xingcen and threw him aside. The servant let out an even more agonized cry.
Chi Xianrang furrowed his brows and walked over quickly. “Who are you? How dare you lay a hand on a member of the Chi family?”
The young girl lying on the floor felt her heart turn to ash. Her biological father could stand up for outsiders, yet he could personally hurt his own daughter. In his eyes, was nothing more important than the Chi family’s reputation?
Through tear-blurred vision, she stared fixedly at the person standing tall beside her. A flash of hatred passed through her eyes. Suddenly, a slender hand appeared before her.
The nails were neatly trimmed, the knuckles slightly prominent and pale; the hand was lean, powerful, clean, and gentle. She subconsciously followed the wrist upward. An Alpha with long hair half-tied back was looking at her intently. Thin, clear lips parted as she spoke, “I’ll help you up.”
The voice was clear and melodic, without a hint of fluctuation, yet Chi Xingcen could hear threads of concern within it. She was suddenly struck by a wave of panic.
She remembered her.
If she had not misidentified the scent, this Alpha was the one who had given her a temporary mark that night. Her heart surged with conflicting thoughts. Subconsciously, Chi Xingcen did not want this Alpha to see her in such a wretched and pathetic state. She wanted to pull away, but seeing this, the Alpha helped her up regardless.
“The ground is cold.” Lu Xi had not expected this female supporting character to be so stubborn and unwilling to accept help. Glancing sideways, she saw the complexity in the girl’s eyes; it seemed she wanted to keep her distance.
A thought occurred to her: Could Chi Xingcen have already recognized me as the person from that night?
With that in mind, she whispered into her ear, “I’m sorry about what happened that night. I came here today to take you away. I know you do not want to marry Ming Yanxiu. If you can accept it, I can provide whatever help is within my power.”
Before Chi Xingcen could respond, Chi Xianrang’s warning voice rang out, “Who are you? Let go of my daughter this instant! Today is my daughter’s engagement to the Young Master of the Ming family. You are not allowed to cause trouble here!”
The remaining guests who had not left yet paused their steps, prepared to watch the impending drama. Seeing that the tall, thin female Alpha did not answer, Chi Xianrang felt his authority was being challenged. He became even more overbearing in front of the crowd. “Which family’s junior is so ill-mannered as to act so arrogantly on someone else’s turf!”
Lu Xi felt Chi Xingcen’s struggling weaken before she finally glanced at the still-ranting Chi Xianrang. Raising her brow, she let out a light laugh. “Young Master Ming has already left with someone else in his arms, saying he wants to call off this marriage. As Miss Chi’s father, instead of seeking justice for her, why are you in such a hurry to push her toward the Ming family?”
Having his attempt to gloss over the embarrassing situation exposed, Chi Xianrang grew livid. No longer caring about this female Alpha’s identity, he gestured with his chin to the men waiting on both sides, commanding them to seize Chi Xingcen.
But the people Lu Xi brought were no pushovers. They met the challenge head-on, engaging in a scuffle with the Chi family’s men. The scene became chaotic. Neatly arranged tables and chairs were overturned. The onlookers were frightened and scrambled toward the door, staying far away from the group that had started fighting without a second word.
“She is my daughter. She marries whomever I tell her to. You, an outsider, have no right to interfere.” Chi Xianrang’s eyes were cold as he stared at the girl with reddened eyes. His voice was a chilling warning. “Aside from the Ming family, you are not going anywhere.”
Wounded again and again by her kin, Chi Xingcen’s heart had become like still water. It turned out that once pain reaches the point of numbness, one truly can no longer perceive sadness or despair.
The corners of her mouth twitched. “Father, you saw it too. It was Ming Yanxiu who ran off with someone else; he is the one unwilling to go through with the engagement.”
She still did not understand. She was not the one in the wrong, so why was she left alone to face the combined wrath of the Chi and Ming families? Even though she was not the one who fled the wedding, she still could not escape the fate of being sent to the Ming family.
Tears began to overflow from the corners of the girl’s eyes, wetting her curled lashes. Her moist eyes looked like a pool of autumn water rippling in the breeze. With a slight blink, they cast a flickering light, making her already pitiable appearance seem even more delicate and vulnerable.
Seeing her rejection of the Ming family and her unwillingness to return to the Chi family, Lu Xi spoke up at the opportune moment, “How about getting engaged to me instead?”
At this moment, having witnessed Chi Xingcen’s situation and the treatment she received, there was a touch more sincerity in her words. “Come with me; I can help you live the life you want.”
Chi Xingcen did not fully believe her, but right now, this person could indeed take her away from this place. She lowered her eyes with a self-mocking smile and said in a flat voice, “Fine. Can you take me away first?”
“You bastard!” Before Lu Xi could answer, Chi Xianrang pointed at the daughter who was defying him for the first time. He spoke through gritted teeth. “Have you no shame? You actually want to leave with this Alpha whose identity is unknown? You! You are going to throw away all the dignity of our Chi family!”
Ming Yanchen’s face also darkened. “Miss Chi, Yanxiu did wrong by you today, and I have already apologized on his behalf. I also guarantee we will give you a satisfactory answer in the future. Do not be ungrateful.”
It was so cold. The wind around her was so cold.
Chi Xingcen huddled her body and smiled noncommittally. Everyone was forcing her; a life where one had no control over their own destiny was truly hopeless. She stopped struggling and simply nestled into Lu Xi’s embrace, saying softly, “I’ll go with you, please.”
She could see a flickering of genuine concern in this Alpha’s eyes. She figured it was likely out of consideration for their one-night encounter, so the Alpha truly wanted to help her. In that case, she would temporarily make use of this Alpha’s guilt. It was better than falling into the hands of the Chi and Ming families and living a life worse than death.
With Chi Xingcen’s word, Lu Xi no longer held back. She directly picked up the aching girl and turned to leave, leaving the remaining mess for Lu Li to handle.
Lu Xi’s car was already waiting outside. She carried Chi Xingcen into the back seat and dropped the instruction to go to the hospital. She pulled down the partition, blocking the view from the front.
Once they were alone, Chi Xingcen struggled out of Lu Xi’s arms and silently put some distance between them. “Today, thank you.”
Lu Xi did not mind the girl’s coldness and waved her hand. “You do not need to thank me.”
She did not dare bring up that night. After all, she was the one who had held her, and she was the one who had pulled open the girl’s collar. It was her fault, so helping the girl was only right. Thinking of this, Lu Xi suddenly realized something. Could it be that 001 took advantage of my mindset and pushed me so urgently to mark the girl that night?
“001, come out.” She closed her eyes to rest and summoned the system in her mind.
“What is it?” 001 sounded as if it had just woken up, its voice tinged with sleepiness.
Lu Xi gave a cold laugh. “That night, why did you insist I mark Chi Xingcen? Was it because you knew that if I marked her, I would feel pity and guilt, and would help her with everything I have so you could complete the mission faster?”
001 went silent; it did not dare speak.
Lu Xi was angry. “You knew perfectly well that even without marking her, I would have listened to you, helped her in time, and completed your mission!”
Seeing her anger, 001 could not remain silent. After a moment’s thought, it offered a serious yet perfunctory excuse. “That was a necessary plot point. It was not me forcing you to do it. It was the plot. You understand the plot, right?”
It was not going to tell her that these plot points were pre-designed by someone else and it was just following orders.
Hearing the word “plot,” Lu Xi’s lip curled. She could not be bothered to argue with 001 anymore; its excuses were not worth listening to.
At the hospital, Chi Xingcen underwent an examination. She was not seriously injured, though her elbow was bloodied from the fall. It just needed a simple bandage. As the nurse was bandaging her, Lu Xi’s phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, she frowned and stepped out of the clinic to answer.
“Sister, why aren’t you home yet? I’m all alone and scared,” a girl’s voice, thick with tears, came through the phone.
Lu Xi glanced at the now-bandaged Chi Xingcen and said softly into the phone, “Something came up. I’ll be back soon.”
Thinking about bringing Chi Xingcen back tonight, she added, “Momo, tell Auntie Xu to prepare dinner for three tonight and clear out a guest room. I’m bringing a friend home.”
Yun Momo was surprised and suddenly alert. “What kind of friend is Sister bringing back?”
“Don’t ask too many questions about adult matters, kiddo.” Lu Xi did not say more. After a few instructions, she hung up.
Watching the nurse walk out, she entered the clinic and helped Chi Xingcen off the bed. “There is some medicine; Lu Li has gone to get it. We will head back first.”
Chi Xingcen paused, feeling hesitant again. “Back to your house?”
Come to think of it, she still did not even know who this Alpha was.
