She Said That Kisses and Hugs Are Needed for Redemption [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 12
After much deliberation, Fu Lancen still couldn’t make sense of it. She had thought that once they reached the Ninth Heaven, she would immediately confront Bai Youran.
“Wasn’t she supposed to capture me?”
Lu Xi shrugged. “Maybe she wants to play a game of cat and mouse?”
Though this place was remote, far from the Falling Blossoms Divine Hall of the revered God-Emperor Qiran, Lu Xi felt it was best not to reveal her cultivation for the time being.
She wasn’t ready to be recognized so soon.
However, the place was far too dilapidated. Without some tidying up, it would be impossible to stay here.
This left her feeling rather conflicted.
“What cat and mouse?” Fu Lancen was still mulling it over. “Are you saying she might want to toy with me first?”
She recalled her past interactions with this cousin back in Qingqiu, only to realize that she had never truly understood what kind of person Bai Youran really was.
So, did Bai Youran truly hate her so much? Before taking her essence blood, did she also want to humiliate her first?
“I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll meet the esteemed wife of the God-Emperor today,” Lu Xi said, unwilling to subject herself and Fu Lancen to staying in such a place. She took Fu Lancen’s hand and led her out of the cold hall. “Let’s find somewhere else to rest for the night.”
Fu Lancen: “Huh?”
Blinking in confusion, she watched the slender figure of the woman swaying through the swirling immortal mist ahead of her.
Why were they suddenly leaving to find another place to stay? Weren’t they supposed to wait here to see Bai Youran? And if they sneaked out now, wouldn’t they risk being caught by Bai Youran’s people?
Avoiding several patrols of guards and maids from the White Orchid Hall, the two somehow managed to slip out of the palace without incident.
Outside, radiant clouds shimmered with dazzling white light, casting their glow upon towering crimson walls. The drifting immortal mist, like layers of delicate veils, lent an air of unattainable elegance and nobility to the surrounding jade pools and celestial springs.
Once outside the White Orchid Hall, the number of patrolling guards increased.
Lu Xi pulled Fu Lancen behind a massive redwood door to hide, but unexpectedly, hurried footsteps approached from behind, accompanied by Xia Xin’s furious scolding: “Who told you two to run off?! Didn’t I warn you not to wander around the palace? The treasures of the Ninth Heaven aren’t for the likes of you lowly beings from the mortal realm to gawk at! Get back inside with me now!”
The footsteps drew closer Xia Xin was already right behind them.
With a wave of her hand, several maids rushed forward, intending to seize Lu Xi and Fu Lancen.
Lu Xi withdrew her gaze from the scenery outside the hall and turned to Xia Xin, whose face was filled with cold arrogance and disdain. The corner of her lips twitched. “Weren’t you supposed to bring us to the Ninth Heaven to report the demonic disturbances in the mortal realm? Yet you brought us here and forbade us from leaving.”
As she spoke, she slowly led Fu Lancen a few steps further away. “Could it be that you’re trying to imprison us so you can claim the credit for yourself?”
Hearing this, Xia Xin’s unease and suspicions lessened considerably. Her expression grew even more contemptuous, her voice dripping with superiority. “I am the personal handmaiden of the God-Emperor’s wife. Do you really think I’d stoop to coveting your petty merits? How shallow!”
Now that they were already in the Ninth Heaven, she had to hurry and lock them up again. If God-Emperor Qiran discovered them, her mistress would be punished.
Moreover, this time we must assign more people to keep an eye on them and prevent them from moving around freely again.
Several maids stepped forward once more, closing in on the two women.
A sharp voice from outside the hall interrupted their movements: “What are you doing?”
Everyone in the White Orchid Hall turned to look outside, but their expressions instantly changed upon seeing the newcomer.
“Lady Zhiwu, what brings you here? Are you looking for our Divine Consort?” Xia Xin wore an ingratiating smile as she hurried forward to greet the visitor.
The newcomer was a young woman with delicate features and an elegant demeanor. She remained unfazed by Xia Xin’s flattery, her gaze cool and indifferent. “I was passing by on my way to the Library Pavilion.”
Hearing that Zhiwu was merely passing through, Xia Xin relaxed slightly but maintained an excessively enthusiastic tone. “Might I ask what book you seek, my lady? Why not rest in the hall for a while? This humble servant can fetch it for you.”
“No need.” Zhiwu ignored Xia Xin’s overtures, her eyes drifting lightly toward the two figures huddled in the corner. “Who are they? Have they done something wrong? Why are you ordering their arrest?”
Xia Xin hadn’t expected Zhiwu to take an interest in the two women. Stumbling over her words, she hesitated to answer. But under Zhiwu’s calm scrutiny, she couldn’t evade the question and hastily fabricated an explanation. “They they are from the lower realms. Their cultivation isn’t sufficient to ascend to the Ninth Heaven, so they colluded with the palace guards to sneak in. This humble servant discovered them and was just about to bring them before the Divine Consort.”
Zhiwu raised an eyebrow slightly, as if unconvinced. “So the Divine Consort has so much free time that she handles such trivial matters now?”
Beads of cold sweat formed on Xia Xin’s forehead. “Yes!”
“Lady Zhiwu?” Lu Xi glanced at the cowering Xia Xin before leisurely turning her gaze to the composed Zhiwu. “We came to the Ninth Heaven with the Divine Consort to report urgent matters.”
Hearing Lu Xi address her with such respect, Zhiwu stiffened slightly, averting her eyes before replying in a neutral tone, “What urgent matters?”
Lu Xi quickly recounted how Xia Xin had brought them to the Ninth Heaven and their purpose for being there.
“I see.” Zhiwu’s expression darkened, her gaze turning icy as she looked at Xia Xin. “You have quite the audacity to conceal reports of demonic disturbances on your own?!”
“My lady, don’t listen to her nonsense! How would this humble servant dare?!” Xia Xin frantically tried to prove her innocence, pointing at Lu Xi and cursing, “This wretch is just trying to shift blame to escape punishment! My lady, you mustn’t believe a word this vile woman says! As for how these two lowlifes made it to the Ninth Heaven, you can investigate it yourself!”
Fortunately, she hadn’t been seen with the two wenches in front of others when bringing them up. Later, she could just pin the blame on some useless guard and throw these two into the dungeons for torment.
Hearing Xia Xin repeatedly call them “wretches,” a flicker of killing intent flashed in Zhiwu’s eyes.
“Since there is dispute over this matter, I will take custody of these two. Once the investigation is complete, a decision will be made.”
Without another glance at the stunned faces of the White Orchid Hall attendants, Zhiwu turned and led the seemingly meek duo away. “Follow me back to the Cloud-Parting Palace. During the investigation, you are not to wander off.”
Having resolved the immediate trouble, Lu Xi smiled and took Fu Lancen’s hand, following closely behind Zhiwu. As they stepped out of the White Orchid Hall, she glanced back at Xia Xin, who was seething with rage, and provocatively flashed her a grin.
Fu Lancen couldn’t help but burst into laughter at her blatant taunting.
Hearing the commotion, Zhiwu turned to study the two of them. His gossipy gaze flickered between them before finally settling on Lu Xi, whose smile was radiant.
“So, you just said she’s your wife?”
