She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: The Victim
It was morning again.
Tu Zhizhuo emerged from the master bedroom, yawned, and washed up. She finished getting ready in a few minutes.
She patted her face. In the mirror, there were faint dark circles under her eyes.
But she wasn’t tired at all.
Unlike Su Huaiwang, who slept like a dead pig after drinking, alcohol more often kept her awake.
The early morning of late summer and early autumn was a bit chilly. She casually threw on a jacket, put leashes on the two dogs, and planned to take them for a walk and grab some breakfast.
Passing by the guest room door, she quietly peeked inside.
Sure enough, Su Huaiwang was still asleep.
Last night’s clothes were messily tossed aside, along with the bath towel and the pajamas Tu Zhizhuo had prepared for her.
She herself was curled up soundly in the soft dip of the large bed, her bare shoulders and arms exposed, loosely hugging the large bear Tu Zhizhuo had placed on the bed.
Goodness knows that when Tu Zhizhuo bought this, Su Huaiwang had acted like she couldn’t understand it.
Tu Zhizhuo retracted her gaze after a brief look.
Hmm, same as always. When she drinks too much, she likes to act crazy. Good thing there were no victims last night.
Unlike that one time when she got tipsy and excited and cut Big Grey’s hair, leaving Big Grey depressed for three months.
Thinking this, Tu Zhizhuo squatted down and patted the grey wolfhound’s head: “Good thing you ran fast this time.”
Big Grey looked at her, its blue eyes clear and agreeing.
Tu Zhizhuo curved her lips: “Let’s go, want to go out and play? Want to go out and play with Auntie?”
At the sound of the words “go out and play,” the two dogs’ tails immediately went from gentle swaying to spinning like propellers in motion.
Little Yellow even opened its mouth, ready to bark excitedly.
Tu Zhizhuo put a finger to her lips: “Shh, shh, don’t bark. Your mom is still sleeping. Don’t wake her.”
Su Huaiwang’s dogs were intelligent. Hearing her, they immediately clamped their mouths shut, only their eyes sparkling brightly as they looked at her.
Tu Zhizhuo put on her shoes, held the leashes of the two dogs, and opened the door.
In the hallway, before she could close the door, she was startled by an uninvited guest:
“Who?!”
The person standing with her arms crossed in front of her door was quite exasperated: “It’s early morning, why are you shouting so loud?”
Only then did Tu Zhizhuo clearly see her face, and her jaw instantly dropped: “Lin, Lin Jue?!”
Lin Jue had a headache. She raised her hand to press her temple and said helplessly, “It’s me. Keep your voice down.”
Tu Zhizhuo finally realized what time it was and lowered her voice: “Why are you here?”
As she spoke, she felt something was off: “How do you know where I live?”
Lin Jue waved the phone in her hand: “I came to pick Su Huaiwang up.”
“So early?”
“It’s better to arrive early.”
Tu Zhizhuo recalled how Lin Jue looked when she first saw her. She was standing in front of her door like a stiff shadow, seemingly having no intention of knocking, and appearing as if she had been standing there for a long time.
She couldn’t help but ask: “When did you arrive? Why didn’t you tell me? I would have come down to get you.”
How did the security guard even let her in?
Lin Jue’s tone was somewhat indifferent: “No need to trouble you—is Su Huaiwang awake?”
She really can’t go a sentence without mentioning Su Huaiwang, Tu Zhizhuo sighed, but still answered honestly:
“Not yet. She drank quite a bit last night. She’ll probably sleep for a long time. Come inside and wait?”
Lin Jue lowered her eyelashes, answering with an unrelated question: “What are you going to do?”
She looked down at the two dogs rubbing against her legs. Su Huaiwang had bought them many collars, each exquisitely beautiful.
“Walk the dogs and grab some breakfast.”
Lin Jue looked up and stared at her again.
For some reason, Tu Zhizhuo felt that the delicate girl in front of her looked subtly different from when they last met.
If the first time she saw her, she was a mix of jade-like coolness and spring-breeze warmth, now what she felt was a chilling aura of death, veiled over the girl’s features—cold, yet possessing an unspeakable, gloomy charm.
Perhaps it was the draft, but facing those dark amber eyes, Tu Zhizhuo subconsciously shivered.
Lin Jue offered a faint smile: “Then can I come in and wait? Don’t worry about me. You go do what you need to do.”
Tu Zhizhuo quickly said: “Of course, you can’t just stand in the hallway… Oh, why didn’t you ring the doorbell or send me a message just now?”
The girl’s smile diminished slightly, and she shifted her gaze: “I was afraid of waking you two up. Waiting for a bit is nothing.”
Tu Zhizhuo inexplicably felt relieved and flashed a warm smile again: “Oh, come on, between friends, why talk about disturbing? Besides…”
A difficult-to-describe ambiguity surfaced in her smile: “I know everything.”
Lin Jue’s expression changed instantly: “Know what?”
Tu Zhizhuo didn’t notice the change in her demeanor and continued gossiping: “What Su Huaiwang said last night. But when I asked her who was on top and who was on the bottom, she wouldn’t tell me… Honestly, is it possible your technique is really good and you made her unable to hold her head up?”
Lin Jue raised an eyebrow, her expression relaxing and smiling: “She doesn’t want to tell you? Then I have nothing to say either.”
Tu Zhizhuo “tsk-ed,” shaking her head in disapproval: “Why are they all like this…”
Muttering, she turned around to open the door for Lin Jue.
“Then I’ll head down now. I won’t entertain you. Use whatever you need to. I don’t mind.”
The woman looked a bit nonchalant, almost lazy.
Lin Jue softly “Mhm”-ed and walked into the apartment.
As she brushed past her, Tu Zhizhuo sharply noticed scorch marks on her skirt. Although it looked like some kind of artistic design, Tu Zhizhuo, who had genuinely played with fire, almost burned down her house, and had her butt spanked by her mom, could tell instantly.
They weren’t man-made marks but genuine marks left by fire.
Tu Zhizhuo instinctively frowned. Just as she was about to ask how that happened, the front door closed in front of her.
Tu Zhizhuo, locked out of her own house, shrugged.
It wasn’t a particularly important matter anyway. She’d just ask next time.
She dismissed the slight suspicion, picked up the two impatient little dogs who were already jumping up and down, and pressed the elevator button.
…
Tu Zhizhuo’s house was very different from Su Huaiwang’s in style.
The interior design was spacious and luxurious, exuding exquisite laziness everywhere.
The remnants of last night’s dinner hadn’t been cleared from the dining table. Wine bottles were scattered around, smelling of intoxication.
Lin Jue walked cautiously on the expensive, glossy tiles, trying hard not to make any noise.
Among all the other people’s scents in the house, Su Huaiwang’s scent was uniquely distinct. Lin Jue followed this clue to the guest room. Her body dematerialized, and she easily passed through the door.
Su Huaiwang seemed to sense something in her sleep, wrinkled her nose, and snuggled into the large bear.
The curtains were excellent at blocking light. Even with bright daylight outside, the room remained dark.
The dark figure by the bed gazed at her in the dimness. Only those intensely colored eyes showed a slight gleam.
The dark figure gently leaned over, not daring to do much, only rubbing her nose against the sleeping woman’s cheek.
When she looked up, she met a pair of hazy eyes.
“What are you doing?” Just waking up, Su Huaiwang’s voice was hoarse and dry, speaking almost in a breathy whisper.
She tried to blink, wanting to open her eyelids to get a good look at the face of the person in front of her, which was obscured by shadows.
The other person was clearly flustered, her body stiff, not daring to move.
Su Huaiwang was displeased. She gave a soft “hmmph” through her nose, drew out her hands that were hugging the bear, and loosely wrapped them around the person’s neck.
The other person obediently lowered her body for a hug, maintaining a back-breaking arch.
Su Huaiwang, on the other hand, was relaxed, lying on the bed, her head resting on the other person’s shoulder, her hand stroking the other person’s smooth black hair in an absent-minded way, recovering from the hangover.
Only her body felt a bit uncomfortable. She kept feeling something poking her, rubbing her painfully when she moved.
“What is that…”
Muttering, she managed to open her eyes and look down.
The soft, snowy semicircle was tightly pressed against the rough fabric of the clothing, occasionally moving, rubbing her delicate skin until it burned.
Lin Jue also noticed her gaze shifting and quickly covered the area with her hand out of thoughtfulness, preventing the clothing from further harming Su Huaiwang’s skin.
The thin lips on the half of her fair jaw, illuminated by the faint light, curved into a smile that was almost fawning:
“I’m sorry, does it still hurt like this?”
Su Huaiwang knew hers weren’t big, but she hadn’t expected them to be completely engulfed by Lin Jue’s hand.
Even the girl’s palm was soft and smooth, but compared to hers, it still felt slightly too rough.
The other person, however, had no other thoughts and just kept her hand there. As long as Su Huaiwang moved slightly, she would rub against the palm herself.
Looking at it this way, it didn’t seem like Lin Jue was doing anything to her, but rather that she was actively moving towards Lin Jue’s hand.
Su Huaiwang was silent. Her brain was chilled into sobriety by the girl’s hand.
She released her hands from around the other person’s neck, shrinking back into the quilt, her fingers tightly pinching the edge of the blanket.
“I’m sorry, could you step out for a moment?”
Lin Jue instantly looked like a puppy scolded by its owner, disheartened, her eyes glistening for some reason, but she still obediently nodded.
Half an hour later, Su Huaiwang walked out of the guest room, fully dressed.
The mess from last night had been cleaned up. A bowl of steaming noodles was placed on the table. Lin Jue sat across from the bowl, looking up at her: “Have some. It’s good for your stomach.”
Su Huaiwang pulled out a chair and sat down.
Due to the alcohol, her mind was still fuzzy.
She hesitated: “…Why are you here?”
The smile on Lin Jue’s face slightly faded: “Did you forget? You asked me to pick you up last night.”
Su Huaiwang opened her mouth but no sound came out.
She hadn’t forgotten, she just… The woman awkwardly pursed her lips:
“I didn’t think you’d actually come.” After all, most people wouldn’t believe a drunk person’s words.
Lin Jue said unhurriedly: “I believe every word you say.”
Even if it’s about wanting to leave her.
Breakfast ended in this atmosphere that was neither awkward nor joyful. As Su Huaiwang wiped her mouth, she saw Mimi stretching as it emerged from the cat bed. Only then did she realize what was missing in the house:
“Where’s Tu Zhizhuo?”
“She went to walk the dogs and said she’d buy breakfast.” Lin Jue’s tone was not warm.
“How long ago did she go? Hasn’t she come back yet?”
“A little over forty minutes.”
Su Huaiwang looked at her curiously: “Then when did you arrive?”
“She was just leaving when I arrived.” Lin Jue spoke lightly, then looked at her: “Let’s not talk about that. When should we leave?”
So eager?
Su Huaiwang muttered inwardly, giving a vague answer:
“Let’s wait until Tu Zhizhuo gets back.”
Hearing her mention Tu Zhizhuo repeatedly, Lin Jue lowered her gaze and said nothing.
