She Comes Into My Dreams Every Night - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Don’t Pick Up My Package
She raised her hand to greet Lin Jue, and Lin Jue, in a good mood after seeing the black wristband on her hand, smiled and asked:
“How is your health?”
Su Huaiwang didn’t understand the exact meaning of her question, but she keenly sensed it was related to the night her memory went blank.
She hesitated for a moment and gave an ambiguous answer: “I’m fine. I don’t feel uncomfortable anywhere.”
“That’s good. If you have low blood sugar, you should pay more attention,” Lin Jue said, handing her a piece of candy.
Su Huaiwang breathed a sigh of relief. So, it was low blood sugar.
She accepted the candy from Lin Jue, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. The refreshing coolness of mint spread through her mouth.
It was a candy that matched Lin Jue’s vibe. Su Huaiwang watched her retract her hand, feeling as if the scent of mint still lingered on her fingertips.
“Thank you,” Su Huaiwang said sincerely, sucking on the candy.
“You’re welcome.” Lin Jue’s amber eyes flickered with a shallow light: “Are you heading to town?”
“Mhm, to buy some groceries and pick up a package along the way.” Packages couldn’t be delivered to the remote mountain village, so they had to go to town to retrieve them.
“Can I catch a ride with you?” Lin Jue asked with a smile, her eyes subtly glancing at the electric tricycle Su Huaiwang was leaning on.
“Sure, let’s go together. That works out perfectly.” Su Huaiwang had no reason to refuse. However, only after agreeing did she realize she was planning to drive the tricycle to town.
Driving Lin Jue in a tricycle…? Was that really okay…? That face… appearing on a tricycle? Wouldn’t that be a bit too weird?
Su Huaiwang suddenly felt like a coarse country bumpkin who had tricked a pure university student, now proudly showing off the “phoenix in her humble chicken coop” in a tricycle. She immediately sank into deep self-doubt.
“Since you’re coming along, maybe I should switch cars,” Su Huaiwang said, about to drive the tricycle back.
She had a regular SUV in the garage, but the mountain roads were steep, so she didn’t drive it often.
“There’s no need for the trouble. Isn’t there enough room to sit?” Lin Jue pointed to the two-seater bench on the tricycle, tilted her head, and looked at her curiously.
Su Huaiwang stiffly turned her head, regretting why she had bought a two-seater bench in the first place.
But since she had already said yes, she had no choice but to continue driving her less-than-presentable little tricycle: “Alright.”
Lin Jue’s eyes curved in a smile, and she sat down in the front seat of the tricycle with an elegant yet swift movement.
The motion of getting into the vehicle was quite significant, and her exposed arm inevitably brushed against Su Huaiwang’s, the contact feeling icy cold.
Su Huaiwang’s face was tight, but her heart was stirred by that brief touch.
As soon as Lin Jue got on, the two dogs in the back compartment immediately scrambled closer, sniffing her with their wet black noses.
Su Huaiwang looked surprised: “Are you getting along better?”
LAs Su Huaiwang was leaving, she ran right into Lin Jue.
in Jue perfunctorily stroked the two dogs’ heads. The somewhat bored smile became genuinely bright and cheerful when she turned to Su Huaiwang: “I guess so.”
“It looks like walking together was useful after all.” Su Huaiwang leaned in and affectionately stroked the two dogs’ heads as well.
A vibrant breath suddenly drew near. Lin Jue’s body stiffened for a moment, then she began consciously mimicking a living person’s breathing pattern.
The warmth of the living person’s breath hit Su Huaiwang’s arm. Only then did she remember the issue of social distance, and she awkwardly moved her body away.
“Alright, let’s go,” she said. Little Yellow understood what this meant and barked twice in the back in support.
The journey from the village to the town was short. In just a few minutes, they smoothly entered the urban area.
Although it was called a town, to Su Huaiwang, who grew up in the city, the facilities were still relatively basic, and the population density wasn’t high.
The tricycle first stopped at the market. Su Huaiwang then remembered: “I didn’t ask what you needed in town. I can drop you off.”
Even sitting in the front seat of the tricycle, Lin Jue still radiated an aura that was completely out of place with her surroundings. She sat upright, and only her beautiful neck gently twisted as she spoke:
“The same as you, so you don’t need to worry about me. Just let me tag along.”
“I see. Shall we go in then?” Su Huaiwang didn’t doubt her statement. After all, if one didn’t know anyone in town, there were essentially only these two purposes for traveling from the village to the town.
“Okay.” Lin Jue got off the car with her.
The smell of the market was as unpleasant as ever. Su Huaiwang hadn’t arrived early, and many of the vegetables on the stalls were already sold, but the vendors were still vigorously hawking their goods.
The smell of fish, the stench of singeing chicken feathers, flies buzzing everywhere, and accumulated dirty water on the ground… everything stimulated Su Huaiwang’s senses in every direction. It was dirty, but it was life.
When she first came, Su Huaiwang was very unaccustomed to it, but two years later, she had long grown used to it, and even somewhat liked the atmosphere.
But Lin Jue was different.
Su Huaiwang suddenly realized.
The market was too noisy. She leaned down and whispered into Lin Jue’s ear: “The smell here might not be pleasant. I can buy whatever you want; you can stay farther away from the stalls.”
Lin Jue listened and nodded. Su Huaiwang straightened her back with satisfaction, but unexpectedly, Lin Jue stood on tiptoe, also bringing her mouth close to Su Huaiwang’s ear, whispering intimately.
“Then, can I stay closer to you?”
Su Huaiwang instantly shivered, feeling the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.
She had never felt her ears were this sensitive before. As a result, she couldn’t clearly hear what the other person had said, her attention completely focused on the warm breath spraying onto her outer ear, occasionally playfully slipping into her ear canal.
But she couldn’t admit that her mind had wandered, so she vaguely mumbled two ‘mhm’s.
Lin Jue noticed her unusual reaction. Although she didn’t know what it was about, her goal was achieved, and her delight showed in her eyes.
“I’ll hold their leashes. Don’t you still need to choose vegetables?”
Su Huaiwang didn’t refuse the suggestion and meekly handed the restless two dogs over to Lin Jue.
In Lin Jue’s hands, the two dogs were noticeably less excited. Liking her was one thing; being afraid was another.
The two circled the market and soon had their hands full of meat and vegetables. Lin Jue wanted to help Su Huaiwang carry them, but she was flatly refused.
The young girl looked slender and fragile. How could she let her carry such a huge pile of groceries?
So, in the end, Su Huaiwang loaded the bags of groceries onto the tricycle herself. Of course, Lin Jue carried a little bit, as it was for two people. Although Lin Jue had asked for less, it was still more than Su Huaiwang usually bought alone.
However, another reason was that having someone accompany her to the market made Su Huaiwang feel a long-lost excitement, and she unconsciously bought more than she intended.
By the time they sat back on the electric tricycle, Su Huaiwang was flushed all over.
“Going out in the summer is still too much work,” Su Huaiwang lamented, looking up at the sun.
It was ten in the morning, still considered early, and the sun wasn’t that fierce, but she felt like she was being baked dry.
She was just reminiscing about her air-conditioned room when suddenly, a chilling sensation hit her arm. Su Huaiwang couldn’t help but yelp:
“Ah!”
She turned around to see Lin Jue’s smiling face.
She was holding a bottle of ice-cold water, and that was what had just iced Su Huaiwang.
“Here.”
Su Huaiwang took the bottle of ice water, said thank you, and eagerly twisted the cap open to take a large gulp.
The icy liquid slid down her throat. Su Huaiwang involuntarily thought of the afternoon she first met Lin Jue.
The girl’s presence was clearly colder than this bottle of water, yet it was more intoxicating than the summer heat.
Distracted, Su Huaiwang was choked by the ice water and uncontrollably coughed.
Lin Jue quickly took the water from her hand and patted her back to help her catch her breath.
Su Huaiwang felt a little embarrassed that she had choked on water because she was thinking about that kind of thing.
The cool air kept hitting her slightly sweaty back, which was pleasant but also extremely mortifying.
“Okay, okay, thank you,” Su Huaiwang stopped Lin Jue’s hand from patting her back the moment she recovered.
Having rushed through the market, her back was inevitably sweaty. The thought of Lin Jue’s hand potentially touching that sweat made her extremely restless.
Lin Jue withdrew her hand, her eyelashes slightly lowered.
Su Huaiwang took out the dogs’ special water dispenser and poured some from her own prepared water for Da Hui and Little Yellow to drink.
Da Hui and Little Yellow, thirsty for a long time, gulped down the water. Their wide tongues curled, splashing water droplets that landed on the back of Su Huaiwang’s hand, bringing a warm sensation.
Su Huaiwang started drifting off again.
The water Lin Jue hands me is always ice-cold, like it just came out of a freezer. Why is that?
We’ve been outside together for so long, but when Lin Jue touched me just now, the coldness of her palm almost made me shiver. Is this…
“The water is finished.”
A similarly cool voice interrupted Su Huaiwang’s thoughts. Lin Jue looked at her sideways, gently moving her fingers to tuck the strands of black hair behind her ear, revealing a flawless profile.
“Do you want me to add more?” she asked.
Su Huaiwang painstakingly pulled her gaze away from that face, turned to the two dogs looking up at her eagerly, and managed to squeeze out a few normal-sounding words:
“N-no need. We’re going back soon.”
Having said that, she quickly turned the electric tricycle’s handlebar as if fleeing, deliberately avoiding Lin Jue: “Let’s go, let’s go.”
It wasn’t until she was navigating through the piles of packages of various sizes that Su Huaiwang managed to calm down slightly.
“I can’t believe this…” She involuntarily wanted to crouch down and cover her face to vent the self-loathing that surged up as reason returned.
Lin Jue, Lin Jue, Lin Jue… Although the other person didn’t do it on purpose, it was undeniable that her life this past month had been completely disrupted by Lin Jue.
Now, she literally got aroused just by seeing Lin Jue.
Wailing inwardly, Su Huaiwang pretended to be composed as she stood up, searching the package rack and silently reciting theories that sounded like they belonged in an animal documentary.
Arousal is a normal phenomenon. It won’t last long. It only happens during certain specific times of the year. Spring has arrived, and the little animals are also…
“Pak!”
The package in her hand dropped to the floor.
Su Huaiwang looked at the product name displayed on her phone, her pupils dilated in shock.
When they arrived at the courier station, Lin Jue had offered to help her pick up her packages, so she had sent a few pick-up codes to Lin Jue.
On the messaging page, she couldn’t see what products those codes corresponded to, so she had forgotten…
Two months ago, the small toy she bought had a delayed shipment. It arrived just yesterday and was listed in the first slot of her messages—the most convenient one to casually send to Lin Jue.
There was no time to think. She frantically grabbed the other packages in her hand and rushed toward the electric tricycle, hoping to cover up the incident before Lin Jue could find the item.
To her despair, by the time she got back to the electric tricycle, Lin Jue was already there.
The girl’s face bore her usual smile. She handed the package in her hand to Su Huaiwang, asking her to check if there were any mistakes.
Su Huaiwang numbly looked down and saw the other person’s beautiful, neatly manicured hand steadily holding a small, square box toward her.
Thank you, God, for discreet packaging.
But she still wanted to die.
