- Chapter 41 - Sorry, Shi Xianyu in Heaven
You can only stomp your feet in frustration up in heaven.
After getting into the car, Shi Shuxue sat in the passenger seat, her small face expressionless and tense as she stared straight ahead at the road. However, the deep flush on her earlobes betrayed her current state of mind.
Chi Yeyu had said yes. Chi Yeyu had said yes. Chi Yeyu had said yes.
From now on, the two of them were no longer in a guardian and ward relationship, but a relationship between a girlfriend and a girlfriend!!!
As the warm air from the car’s air conditioning brushed against her face, waves of heat surged in her heart. She clenched and unclenched her fingers, her thoughts so scattered she didn’t know what to say. But she didn’t need to say anything. Chi Yeyu had always been the one to initiate conversation.
Outside the window, fine, dense snowflakes fluttered down, landing on the frosted glass and instantly turning into small, blurred water marks. The shops along the road were decorated with Christmas trees, their pine needles adorned with blinking colored lights that looked like stars scattered across the ground. Yet, Shi Shuxue’s gaze kept uncontrollably drifting toward the person beside her.
Chi Yeyu gripped the steering wheel, the ring on her right middle finger reflecting a silver glint with every turn. She wore a cream-colored wool coat, its collar casually open to reveal a light gray turtleneck sweater beneath. The lines of her profile were as soft as white jade soaked in warm milk, and even her fingers gripping the gear shift were slender and beautiful.
“What are you looking at?” Chi Yeyu’s voice suddenly rang out, the trailing laughter in her tone brushing past Shi Shuxue’s ear, feeling even warmer than the heater.
With her filter for Chi Yeyu currently at maximum capacity, Shi Shuxue turned toward her and collided with those smiling eyes. “Looking at the snow.”
“Oh, I’m looking at the snow too,” Chi Yeyu said, failing to stay serious for even a minute.
Shi Shuxue was silent for a moment before saying, “You’re driving, so look at the road properly.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to my girlfriend,” Chi Yeyu pouted slightly.
Shi Shuxue quickly pulled her collar upward. Her nose was starting to sweat from the warmth, and her breath felt hot.
“Just as well, I made a reservation at a Western restaurant with a beautiful view tonight.” Chi Yeyu tapped the brakes lightly, and the car turned smoothly around a corner. “The rooftop terrace overlooks the entire downtown Christmas light show. It was booked solid half a month in advance, but luckily I had my assistant put in some extra effort. Heh heh.”
Shi Shuxue blinked, asking, “Was it a lot of trouble? Actually… eating at the hotel would have been fine too.”
“No way, it’s not a trouble. For our first Christmas, we definitely need a sense of ceremony.” Chi Yeyu glanced at her and reached out to rub the top of her head, repeating happily, “It’s our first date after making things official~”
When the car pulled up in front of the restaurant, a doorman in a tailcoat immediately stepped forward to open the door. The warm lights of the snowy night reflected off the white snow on the ground. Chi Yeyu got out first and walked around to the passenger side, opening a large black umbrella to shield Shi Shuxue. “Watch your step, the stairs are a bit slippery.”
Chi Yeyu had always been this attentive on rainy days, but doing it now made Shi Shuxue feel a sense of bashfulness for no reason.
Entering the restaurant, they were met by the melodic strains of a violin. The interior was themed in warm gold, with each table lit by a single slender candle. Under the flickering candlelight, a waiter led them toward the rooftop terrace.
The terrace was shielded from the wind and snow by a transparent sunroom. The table was draped in a snow-white cloth, set with exquisite silver cutlery and bright red roses. The city nightscape in the distance was outlined by the brilliant contours of Christmas lights, and as snowflakes fell against the glass of the sunroom, the scene was romantic and beautiful.
Chi Yeyu wondered to herself why the assistant had booked such a place. Had she specifically mentioned a candlelight dinner? She had only asked for somewhere with a good view, quiet enough, and a terrace restaurant fitting of her “CEO status” she hadn’t mentioned booking the entire floor.
Currently, they were the only table in the sunroom. The light from the crystal chandelier fractured across the tips of Shi Shuxue’s hair, making even the distant city lights seem like a mere backdrop.
Fortunately, Shi Shuxue had confessed to her before this and they had successfully shared their feelings; otherwise, this meal tonight would have looked quite suspicious on her part.
However, Chi Yeyu always looked at things through the lens of progress. Now, it seemed she definitely had to give her assistant a raise, this job was done exactly to her liking.
Chi Yeyu asked with a smile, “Do you like it?”
Shi Shuxue nodded. “It’s very quiet.”
The waiter brought the menus, and Chi Yeyu pushed them directly in front of her. “See what you’d like to eat. I remember the Beef Wellington and truffle pasta here are quite good. As for dessert, their lava chocolate cake is a signature.”
“You come here often?” Shi Shuxue raised an eyebrow, asking casually.
Chi Yeyu’s cat-like eyes widened as she clarified, “Only once before when Yu Xiu and the others forced me to treat them. I don’t come often. I grew up eating ‘trash,’ and it’s hard for a ‘trash person’ to have the chance to eat a candlelight dinner for two… until I met little Shi Shuxue in this life…”
As she spoke, she mockingly wiped away a stray tear.
It was too embarrassing. Shi Shuxue’s cheeks instantly turned crimson, and she lowered her head to the menu, pretending to study it intently.
The food was served quickly. The Beef Wellington was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside, while the truffle pasta was rich but not overwhelming. Candlelight reflected on Chi Yeyu’s face as she continued to look after her like a child, carefully cutting the steak for Shi Shuxue and placing a deboned piece of cod into her bowl. “Eat fish so you can grow tall.”
“I’m not a kid anymore,” Shi Shuxue muttered, but she obediently ate the fish.
She lowered her head to take small bites, her long eyelashes casting fine shadows under her eyes, looking somewhat cold yet elegant and quiet in her movements.
Chi Yeyu was suddenly struck by how cute she was. She abruptly took a velvet box out of her handbag and pushed it toward her. “I was going to wait until dessert to give this to you, but I can’t wait anymore. Merry Christmas!”
Shi Shuxue opened the box to find a delicate platinum bracelet. The chain was adorned with several small snowflake charms, the edges were polished smooth, with a hint of blue moonstone embedded in the center.
“For me?” Shi Shuxue looked up at her.
“Otherwise, what? Am I punishing you by making you wear it for me?” Chi Yeyu laughed, leaning forward slightly to take hold of her wrist.
Shi Shuxue’s wrist was slender, her skin appearing like white porcelain under the candlelight. Chi Yeyu’s movements were gentle. The moment the bracelet wrapped around her wrist, the cold metal touched her warm skin, sending a tiny shiver through her.
“Actually, I didn’t know what to get you anymore. Whenever I see something I like, I want to buy it for you, but it feels like you don’t particularly crave anything, after all, you have very few material desires.”
Chi Yeyu helped her fasten the clasp, her fingertip brushing against the tiny snowflake. “It’s not something very expensive. I guessed you’d prefer a low profile style, so I specifically had the designer make a simplified version that isn’t too flashy.”
Shi Shuxue looked down at the bracelet. The snowflake charm swayed gently with her movements, and the halo of the moonstone fell right onto the back of her hand. Was she still being treated like a child by Chi Yeyu?
Even though they had just exchanged their feelings, this almost doting attentiveness overlapped with the care of years past, making a complicated feeling rise in her heart.
The next second, she felt a soft sensation on the back of her hand.
Chi Yeyu lifted her wrist slightly, leaned down, and planted a gentle kiss on the back of her hand, like a butterfly suddenly landing on a flower.
Shi Shuxue jerked her head up, crashing into Chi Yeyu’s smiling amber eyes. They were filled with fine glints of light, as if they held all the stars of the Christmas night sky.
“Why is our little Xue frowning again?” Chi Yeyu smiled and squeezed her fingertips, her thumb tracing the faint lines on the back of her hand. “Are you thinking that I’m still coaxing you like a child?”
Having her thoughts read, Shi Shuxue abruptly turned her face away and tried to pull her hand back, but Chi Yeyu held it firmly.
“I am not,” she said with a stiff face.
“Buying you so many things before was because I was afraid you’d feel wronged with me. Maybe a part of it was a sense of responsibility as a guardian acting up.” Chi Yeyu smiled and placed a hand on her head, rubbing it. “It’s different now. I want to give you everything I like because you are my girlfriend, not because you are a child who needs looking after.”
Shi Shuxue’s heart skipped a beat. Looking at Chi Yeyu’s serious expression, her nose felt a little stinging. She couldn’t cry, she couldn’t cry again, especially after having a long cry during the day.
But under the candlelight, Chi Yeyu’s eyes were incredibly bright. In the distance, brilliant fireworks suddenly bloomed over the city. The colorful light and the amber eyes reflected in Shi Shuxue’s dark pupils, as if her entire world had been dyed in color.
She suddenly thought of the fireworks set off for her two years ago, and of Chi Yeyu running toward her from downstairs. Outside the sunroom, the snow continued to fall. Looking at the person opposite her, Shi Shuxue realized that people could also shed tears when they were extremely happy.
Chi Yeyu reached out to wipe away the physiological tears leaking from the corners of Shi Shuxue’s eyes due to shyness. Her fingertips slid down to tilt up the girl’s wet face, her lips curling mischievously. “Why are you crying again? Did I write some bullying words on my face that made you feel so wronged?”
“I’m not crying.” Shi Shuxue’s voice carried a nasal tone. She felt embarrassed and refused to admit it. “The light was just too piercing.”
“Hey, then do you know what’s written on my face?” She suddenly leaned in close, her nose almost touching Shi Shuxue’s, a flash of cunning in her eyes. “Look closely, is it written ‘Kiss here’ in big letters?”
Shi Shuxue completely forgot how to breathe. She stared at her silently, used her hand to wipe away a tear, and then leaned in bit by bit, pecking her on the mouth like a small animal.
Chi Yeyu froze. She hadn’t expected Shi Shuxue to actually kiss her, and to kiss her on the lips instead of the cheek.
“Chi Yeyu, did you know?” Shi Shuxue said, imitating Chi Yeyu’s usual childish tone.
