- Chapter 8 - Sorry, Host, the System Has No Conscience
“First-tier Talent Skill Department, Class A. Lu Xibie has successfully reported in.”
“Plot Point Two completed. Reward: 100 Evolution Points.”
The notification from the Golden House and the confirmation of registration at the Alpha dormitory front desk reached Lu Xibie’s ears almost simultaneously. She accepted the electronic card that symbolized her identity at Zhigu Military Academy, thanked the staff, and headed straight for the floating elevator.
“First-tier Talent Skill Department, Class A, Room 1716.”
Lu Xibie looked at the label on the door and swiped her card.
Beep—
The door slowly opened from the inside. The dorm was a two-person room, decorated in black and white tones. A black line divided the room in half, with identical facilities on each side: a 1.8-meter bed, a bathroom, and a small training room.
Lu Xibie closed the door, uninterested in the decor, and sat on the bed to summon the Golden House.
“Golden House.”
A pale blue screen appeared before her eyes. She skillfully tapped [Exchange].
[Exchange Cleaning Potion?] [Yes] [Quantity] [1] [Confirm Exchange]
Lu Xibie drank the potion in one gulp. The stagnant air began to flow again.
Beep—
The door opened. In walked a tall, muscular Alpha woman with red dreadlocks. Her thick eyebrows met at the center, and she wore denim clothes while munching on a hot dog, holding two more in her arms.
[Zhu Xiaotao: Talent Skill Department Class A, Talent Skill: Hardening]
A red light frame appeared beside her.
“You’re my roommate?” Zhu Xiaotao asked, closing the door with her hip and taking another bite.
“Yeah.” Lu Xibie nodded without standing up. She vaguely remembered Zhu Xiaotao’s name.
Hit her! Hit her! Steal! Steal! She’s stealing from me!
The idiotic emotions in her mind flared up again. Lu Xibie restrained herself and recalled the book—Zhu Xiaotao was indeed a character. On the first day of reporting, “Lu Xibie” had fought her.
[Plot Point Three activated. Please fight Zhu Xiaotao. Reward: 100 Evolution Points.]
[“Lu Xibie saw Zhu Xiaotao enter the dormitory and was enraged. She refused to live with someone who openly admired Dan Ruijing. When Zhu Xiaotao greeted her, Lu Xibie threw a punch…”]
Lu Xibie glanced at the purple screen and the glowing dot on Zhu Xiaotao’s face, raising an eyebrow.
“Want one? Garlic flavor, really tasty.” Zhu Xiaotao offered a hot dog from her arms.
Lu Xibie blinked and accepted it. “Thanks.”
This was a rare treat here. She couldn’t bring herself to hit someone offering food with a smile.
“That thing you drank… is it tasty?” Zhu Xiaotao stared at the empty bottle in Lu Xibie’s hand, swallowing.
“This?” Lu Xibie raised the bottle, amused.
“Yeah. If it’s good, give me one.” Zhu Xiaotao was direct.
Lu Xibie shook her head. “Not tasty. It’s medicine. I’m sick.”
Zhu Xiaotao finished her hot dog and tore open another. “What flavor?”
Seeing Lu Xibie stunned, she added, “Oh no, I mean—what illness?”
Lu Xibie tapped her temple. “Up here.”
“Ohhh—” Zhu Xiaotao glanced at the bottle again. “What a pity.”
Lu Xibie chuckled and tossed the bottle into the recycling bin. “Really not tasty. I’m not lying. Want it back?”
Zhu Xiaotao looked at the hot dog in Lu Xibie’s hand and shook her head. “Once given, no take-backs. Next time, if you have something tasty, think of me. I’ll think of you too.”
“Deal.” Lu Xibie looked at the mountain-like Zhu Xiaotao and cursed the original “Lu Xibie”—how could you hit a foodie like this?
Lu Xibie imagined Zhu Xiaotao in the book, trying to be friendly on the first day by offering her favorite hot dog, only to be punched.
Tragic. Too tragic.
She searched her memory for more info. After the fight, the school—under pressure from the Lu family—gave them separate rooms. “Lu Xibie” got a single, and Zhu Xiaotao didn’t reappear until Lu Xibie reached Tier Two.
When the snow melted, Zhu Xiaotao’s corpse was found at Saltwatch Lake in Zhigu Military Academy. Her talent skill was gone, and her heart’s core was completely removed.
After that, the academy tightened security and upgraded its shields. Rumors said her death was linked to mutated creatures. But how could one sneak past multiple layers of defense and kill a student without anyone noticing? It caused a huge stir in the Federation.
Despite repeated investigations, no conclusion was reached. No one knew how the creature got in—or out.
But Lu Xibie, who had read Omega’s Evolutionary Path, knew.
She tore open the hot dog and took a bite.
“Tasty?” Zhu Xiaotao, towering at nearly two meters, looked at her expectantly.
“Delicious.” Lu Xibie nodded. She stared at Zhu Xiaotao, wondering how someone so obsessed with food could fall for Dan Ruijing. Was it looks? Or ability?
“I told you!” Zhu Xiaotao beamed. “This isn’t even the best one. The spicy hot dog from Meijia Food Store in Wusi United City is the best—especially the one with crayfish! So good before the mutation!”
“I’ll try it if I get the chance.” Lu Xibie smiled. It was hard not to be happy talking to Zhu Xiaotao, who animatedly described the hot dog with crayfish.
How could you hit someone like this?
“No worries, I’ll bring you some next time!” Zhu Xiaotao waved generously. “First-tier students can’t bring luggage, but second-tier can. I’ll bring a whole box of goodies. You pick whatever you want!”
Hit her! Hit her! She’s stealing from me!
Maybe infected by Zhu Xiaotao’s energy, Lu Xibie couldn’t help but throw a punch into the air.
Zhu Xiaotao: “What was that?”
Lu Xibie retracted her arm, apologetic. “Means you’re too nice.”
“Oh, I see!” Zhu Xiaotao mimicked her, punching the air. “You’re too nice too!”
[Host, please complete the plot point.] The Golden House’s mechanical voice echoed coldly in Lu Xibie’s mind.
“Oh come on.” As she spoke, Zhu Xiaotao froze.
“She gave me food! You want me to hit her? Don’t you have a conscience?”
Hit! Hit!
The voice in her head grew excited again.
[Sorry, Host. The system has no conscience. Please complete the plot point or else…]
“Fine fine fine!” Lu Xibie interrupted quickly.
Zhu Xiaotao: “So, what else do you like to eat?”
“Me?” Distracted by the system’s prompt, Lu Xibie looked at her fist. She couldn’t bring herself to hit. There’s no reason to hit someone out of nowhere.
“Yeah yeah.” Zhu Xiaotao’s dark eyes sparkled.
“I eat anything. Not picky.” Lu Xibie replied.
“Then I’ll bring you Yunhu dried fish, Wulan’s braised beef, Horty’s spicy rabbit heads…” Zhu Xiaotao counted on her fingers.
Lu Xibie thought for a moment. “Bring them all. Even if I don’t like them, you do.”
“Exactly!”
“So, what’s your talent skill?” Lu Xibie asked knowingly.
Zhu Xiaotao’s face fell. “Mom was right. Zhigu students are so competitive.”
Huh?
Lu Xibie thought her topic shift was awkward, but Zhu Xiaotao was even more random.
Lu Xibie: “Competitive?”
Zhu Xiaotao covered her face. “Classes start tomorrow. No need to know each other’s strengths today.”
Lu Xibie: “No no, I’m just curious. Mine is Absolute Defense.”
“Absolute Defense? Then you’re… Lu Xibie?!!” Zhu Xiaotao froze in shock.
Her roommate was the infamous “Little Tyrant” of Blue Core City, daughter of General Lu Yanhua—Lu Xibie, who kicked people just for looking at her wrong?
“Yeah.” Lu Xibie nodded. “My name’s on the door screen.”
“I… didn’t look.” Too busy eating.
Zhu Xiaotao swallowed hard, suddenly recalling a friend’s warning:
“Zhu Xiaotao, I asked a second-tier senior to check your dorm. You’re with Lu Xibie, the Little Tyrant. She’s Dan Ruijing’s top admirer. Stay away from her, be careful…”
But she’d only remembered the pink sign of Helan Roast Chicken.
Still, Lu Xibie didn’t seem as violent as rumored?
Zhu Xiaotao blinked. She just ate one of my hot dogs.
“It’s fine. We’re roommates now.” Lu Xibie
