Savage Kiss - Chapter 91
Xu Qingyi instinctively disagreed with this approach.
She understood that the chairman’s wife of Tianhua was extremely busy and had no reason to help her, unless she had a status worth helping.
But she truly didn’t.
Shi Qing knew what she was thinking. “Don’t worry, once it’s settled, I’ll just say we broke up. I won’t tie you down.”
Xu Qingyi closed her eyes in frustration. “Let me think about it for a while.”
What if Shen Yuqiao replied to her later?
Shi Qing nodded. “Want to sit a little longer? Or go upstairs and rest? It’s obvious you haven’t been sleeping well.”
Feeling guilty for making him come all this way for nothing and unable to invite him upstairs, Xu Qingyi apologized.
Shi Qing smiled. “I just came to check on you. Now that I’ve seen you’re okay, I’m relieved. Go on up.”
To avoid making her uncomfortable, Shi Qing deliberately moved his car forward and didn’t watch her retreating figure.
As Xu Qingyi approached the apartment building, she paused in the dim light and spotted Shen Yanzhou standing in another patch of shadows.
He had lit a cigarette but wasn’t smoking it. He stubbed it out and looked at her, as if waiting for an explanation.
Xu Qingyi clenched her fists. “Sometimes, you really make me feel suffocated.”
Shen Yanzhou’s steps toward her halted abruptly.
After a long moment, he spoke softly, “Do you know how long it’s been since you replied to me?”
His calls and messages had all vanished without a trace, like stones thrown into the sea.
“I didn’t notice,” she said truthfully.
Shen Yanzhou gave a faint smile. “You didn’t notice my messages, but you noticed others.”
More preferential treatment.
Xu Qingyi closed her eyes and blurted out, “Maybe we should just stop contacting each other.”
The expression on Shen Yanzhou’s face faded involuntarily. “What are you saying?”
Her chest tightened, but since she’d already said it, she met his gaze directly.
“You heard me. Let’s end this.”
Strangely, Xu Qingyi felt much better after saying it.
Shen Yanzhou stepped closer again and raised his right hand.
The ring on his index finger was clearly visible even in the dim light.
He said, “I thought you had agreed, that there would at least be some progress between us.”
She remained silent, not even looking at him.
To anyone else, her attitude would seem cold and heartless.
Nearly a minute passed in silence before Xu Qingyi turned to walk toward the entrance.
Shen Yanzhou followed, grabbing her arm twice, but she dodged both times. On the third attempt, he firmly grasped her wrist.
His grip was tight, likely provoked by her resistance.
“Why are you always so inconsistent?” His voice carried clear hurt and frustration. “Xu Qingyi, I’m not made of iron either. Time and again…”
He trailed off, then asked slowly, word by word, “I don’t think I’m that terrible. Do I not even deserve normal treatment from you?”
Xu Qingyi couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was bothering her, but her senses felt dulled. The urge to argue with him and force him to leave her alone grew stronger.
“Yes.”
“I tried, but it just doesn’t work. Our start was never normal to begin with. I can’t give you normal treatment, I just don’t feel that way about you!”
When people say harsh words, they unconsciously tighten their jaws and bite their lips to hide other emotions.
Xu Qingyi pressed her lower lip tightly.
Holding her breath as much as possible, she stopped struggling and commanded, “Let go.”
The lobby inside the first-floor entrance was lit, allowing Xu Qingyi to see Shen Yanzhou’s expression clearly.
The corners of her eyes were faintly red as she tugged at the corner of her mouth. “You’re really cruel.”
She forced a smile. “It’s not the first time you’ve known this about me. I’m just emotionally unstable. Even I feel it’s not worth it for you, so why are you still dreaming?”
Shen Yanzhou finally released her, his gaze turning noticeably colder, his voice sinking low.
“Fine.”
Xu Qingyi didn’t want to hear anything more from him. She turned and pulled open the door.
But she still caught his final words: “I won’t bother you again.”
The dinner he had brought was left by Shen Yanzhou on top of the trash can by the door before he turned and walked away.
He had long been aware of his own abnormal insecurity, but he just couldn’t accept it. He never expected things to turn so ugly.
…
Xu Qingyi returned to her room and collapsed directly onto the bed.
Shi Qing had said he was waiting for her reply.
She replied with a single word: [Okay]
Then she didn’t want to look at her messages anymore, leaving it all to fate.
She even harbored the faint hope that by the next morning, all the online abuse would have vanished.
But she was being naive.
At six in the morning, she woke up and checked her phone, only to find that the message she had sent to Shi Qing hadn’t gone through at all!
As luck would have it, the broadband in her apartment needed renewal, and her phone service had been cut off, no Wi-Fi, no data.
Xu Qingyi had to go downstairs to the convenience store to use their Wi-Fi to pay her phone bill, then returned home to pay for her internet.
Shi Qing’s call came through the next second.
She answered but didn’t speak. Shi Qing was the first to say, “Don’t go online.”
Xu Qingyi remained silent.
Was it because the situation had worsened today?
Truthfully, she was already starting to grow immune to it.
“I’m on my way over.” Shi Qing added.
Xu Qingyi still didn’t speak, quietly ending the call.
Shen Yuqiao really wasn’t going to interfere anymore. Still, she checked the surveillance feed of Xu Chen’s hospital room, everything was normal.
Did that mean that now that she and Shen Yanzhou had cut ties, Shen Yuqiao wouldn’t target Xu Chen anymore?
About half an hour later.
Shi Qing drove to the outside of Shen Yanzhou’s auto repair shop. “Fix this for me. I need to borrow your car.”
Of course, the words were directed at Shen Yanzhou.
Shi Qing had been in such a rush on the way over that he’d rear-ended someone. After throwing a wad of cash at the other driver, he’d barely made it here, but his car was now undrivable.
Shen Yanzhou gave him a cold glance and had Liang Fanglin handle it.
He showed no intention of lending a car.
Shi Qing frowned. “I’m going to see Xu Qingyi, it’s urgent. Are you really going to stand by and do nothing while she’s in trouble?”
Hearing the ominous word “trouble”, Shen Yanzhou’s eyes darkened as he looked at him.
Shi Qing deliberately exaggerated the situation. “Seriously, with something this big happening to her, I’m afraid she might do something reckless!”
Shen Yanzhou finally sensed something was wrong. “What happened?”
But it was Shen Yaoyao who spoke up first: “What could possibly be wrong? She’s just seeking attention.”
Shi Qing shot Shen Yaoyao a disdainful look. “Where did this plastic surgery monster come from?”
Shen Yaoyao’s face instantly darkened, but then she smirked.
“Right, that Xu girl didn’t get plastic surgery, which is why she dared to post such shameless photos online. You men just love that kind of trashy vibe, don’t you?”
Shen Yaoyao pulled out her phone and shoved it in front of Shen Yanzhou. “Just look at these poses. I bet she’s even wilder in private.”
