Running Towards You - Chapter 62
Ji Yin staged a clumsy act all by herself, but fortunately, she still managed to occupy half of Lu Jiahe’s bed.
“Where were you planning to go just now?” Ji Yin asked, snuggling under the covers.
“I heard your voice and thought something had happened to you,” Lu Jiahe replied without changing her expression.
“Ah, was it that loud? I thought I didn’t make any noise,” Ji Yin said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
“If you wanted to sleep here, you could’ve just come over directly. Why sneak around?” Lu Jiahe laughed as she lifted the blanket, letting a gust of cold air slip in. Ji Yin yelped, and as soon as she lay down, Lu Jiahe immediately hugged her to warm her up.
“I was afraid you were already asleep and didn’t want to disturb your rest,” Ji Yin explained.
“Then why didn’t you come over right after your shower?”
“Just pretending to be polite.” Without an invitation from the host, she felt too shy to suggest sleeping together. But sleeping alone next door felt so lonely truly, it was hard to sleep with a solitary pillow.
Lu Jiahe’s lips curved into a smile as she reached out to turn off the light.
In the darkness, Ji Yin wasn’t sleepy at all. After a while, she quietly asked, “Are you asleep?”
“No.”
“But you have work tomorrow. Hurry up and sleep,” Ji Yin coaxed.
“How can I sleep when you’re holding me so tightly?” Lu Jiahe chuckled softly.
Ji Yin knew she should let go at this point, but she still wanted to hold on a little longer. “It feels so comfortable.”
With their palms pressed against each other’s backs, leaving no gap, their body temperatures steadily rose. Lu Jiahe was almost unable to restrain herself and pushed her away slightly. “It’s so hot.”
“Let’s turn off the AC.” Ji Yin pulled out the remote and switched it off.
“You didn’t carry that with you, did you?”
“No, it was just on the bedside table.” Ji Yin laughed a couple of times and then checked the time. “No, it’s really too late. Let’s just have a kiss and then go straight to sleep.”
Lu Jiahe couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Alright.”
With permission granted, Ji Yin immediately leaned in for a kiss.
Her intention was just a quick peck, but once their lips met, she unconsciously lingered, deepening the kiss.
Without light, without noise, without the risk of anyone barging in this exceptionally safe and quiet moment, time seemed to stretch endlessly. No one knew exactly how long had passed.
The sound of wet kisses grew, and silvery threads connected their lips. Ji Yin found herself increasingly fond of sharing such moments with her. Her hand unconsciously slipped under the pajamas, caressing the smooth, delicate skin.
Lu Jiahe let out a soft moan.
Ji Yin grew even more delighted. Her palm traced the dip of Lu Jiahe’s waist before moving to the front, eventually climbing toward the peaks. She let out an astonished gasp. “Wow so soft.”
Lu Jiahe’s breathing grew heavier, her body slightly weak. In the darkness, her pupils shimmered with boundless tenderness.
Unfortunately, Ji Yin couldn’t see it, just as she couldn’t see the blush spreading across Ji Shi’s cheeks at that moment.
“Are you sleepy?” Ji Yin whispered.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Jiahe’s breaths were heavy and rapid.
“I, I should go sleep next door.” Ji Yin was practically addicted, unable to stop kneading. If she stayed like this any longer, there would be no sleep tonight.
But Lu Jiahe had to work tomorrow.
Clearly, Lu Jiahe was aware of this issue too. In the end, rationality prevailed.
“Alright.”
“I’m leaving.” Ji Yin picked up the pillow, kissed her, and immediately left the room as if afraid she’d regret it if she lingered even a second.
Lu Jiahe steadied her breathing, adjusted her pajamas, and suddenly smiled softly before closing her eyes contentedly to sleep.
But when she woke up, there was someone beside her.
“Morning.” Ji Yin propped her head up, grinning as she looked at her.
Lu Jiahe froze in surprise. “When did you get here?”
“Just now.” Ji Yin glanced at the time. “There’s still time you can sleep for another ten minutes.”
“Do you really think I can sleep like this?” Lu Jiahe lowered her gaze to the hand hidden inside her pajamas.
Ji Yin’s lips curved slightly. “Stop pretending. I know you’re enjoying it.”
Lu Jiahe raised an eyebrow and gave her a haughty glance.
“They were already standing up before you even woke up so sensitive,” Ji Yin whispered near her ear.
“…” Lu Jiahe’s face flushed red, and she grabbed a pillow to throw at her.
Ji Yin burst out laughing, dodging as she got out of bed. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. Rest a little longer. I’ll go make breakfast.”
“What are you making?” Lu Jiahe asked.
“I bought some buns downstairs. They’re a bit cold, so I’ll heat them up.” Seeing her delighted expression, Ji Yin asked, “Did you want me to make something myself?”
“I’m just a little surprised you even know how to make breakfast turns out you don’t,” Lu Jiahe said with a laugh.
Ji Yin thought for a moment. “When I have time, I’ll cook for you.”
“Alright, you said it.” Lu Jiahe got out of bed, walked up to her, and chuckled softly. “Are you cooking for me, or is it love?”
“!!!”
Ji Yin’s face instantly turned bright red. She stammered for a moment before blurting out, “Either is fine!” and fled the room.
Lu Jiahe stood there, processing what had just happened, and her smile deepened.
After breakfast, Ji Yin drove her to work, and then Lu Jiahe let her take the car.
Ji Yin went straight to the supermarket. At noon, she ate takeout in the office with Yanzi, occasionally letting out a mischievous giggle.
“Did you stay over last night?” Yanzi saw right through her.
“Mm-hmm.” Ji Yin lifted her chin proudly, quickly snatched a chicken leg, and happily started munching.
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing it was Lu Jiahe calling, she put down her chopsticks and answered.
“Hellooooo”
Yanzi rubbed the goosebumps on her arms.
“Do you have time tonight? Li Chenyao wants to treat us to dinner,” Lu Jiahe asked.
“Yes, yes!”
“Alright, I’ll let her know then.”
After hanging up, Ji Yin continued eating her chicken leg, boasting, “Tonight, I’m having dinner with Dr. Lu’s best friend!”
“Not bad, you.”
“And this weekend, I’m meeting. Wait, what day is it today?!”
“Friday.”
“That’s tomorrow?! Oh no, oh no! How did time pass so fast?!” Ji Yin counted on her fingers, extremely nervous. “Tomorrow, I’m meeting Dr. Lu’s parents.”
“What?” Yanzi stared, dumbfounded. “Meeting the parents for real? You two are already at that stage?”
“Well. her parents invited me to their home for a meal. What do I do? I’m a little panicked, I have zero experience with this.”
“Don’t panic, don’t panic. Every job you’ve done, you started with zero experience. You can handle this, it’s just meeting the parents,” Yanzi reassured her.
Ji Yin sighed repeatedly and ran her fingers through her yellow-dyed hair. “I’ll go get my hair dyed back later. The black roots have already grown out quite a bit.”
“Sounds good. At least manage your appearance a little,” Yanzi said, looking her over. “Don’t dress too casually tomorrow. Did you buy the gifts for the meeting?”
“Almost done.”
“Alright, and don’t ride your bike there. Just drive your car.” Yanzi handed her the keys.
Ji Yin took the keys and suddenly remembered something important. “Dr. Lu still doesn’t know I’m the owner of Yanhua.”
Yanzi: “???”
Yanzi: “What do you mean by that?”
Ji Yin: “Exactly what I said.”
Yanzi: “Then what does she think you do?”
Ji Yin: “A supermarket employee.”
Yanzi froze, so shocked that the piece of meat on her chopsticks fell off. Trembling, she asked, “So in her eyes, you’re just a low-educated, low-status, bottom-tier employee?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Yanzi put down her chopsticks in disbelief. “And she still likes you?”
“Right.”
Yanzi was stunned. “Oh my god, I can’t even imagine… You’ve known each other for so long, and you’ve never told her your real identity?”
“What identity?” Ji Yin said indifferently. “When we first met, she never asked about my job. She ran into you guys at the supermarket and assumed I was an employee too. I didn’t have the heart to correct her.”
“Well, that’s understandable, but you never told her even after you started dating?”
“I just never found the right moment. And every time I’m with her, I’m so happy I completely forget about it.” Ji Yin felt a bit embarrassed.
Yanzi thought for a moment and asked, “So you’re meeting her parents tomorrow. Do they know you’re the boss?”
“If she doesn’t know, how could her parents know?”
“And they still invited you to their home?”
“Yes.”
Yanzi abruptly turned around and grabbed her hands. “You absolutely must hold onto Dr. Lu. Someone as genuine as her, and a family like hers, are incredibly rare.”
Ji Yin smiled. “I know that, of course.”
Perhaps it was because she had experienced such pure feelings from Lu Jiahe from the very beginning that she had overlooked her own background and status, completely captivated by it all.
“I plan to come clean with her tonight,” Ji Yin said.
“Better hurry. You’re meeting her parents tomorrow. At the very least, let her family know you’re not some nobody, so they can feel reassured about entrusting their daughter to you.”
“Her parents probably aren’t the type to judge people by appearances. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have invited me over for a meal.”
“What if they want to meet you in person and, if you don’t meet their standards, try to stop you two?”
Hearing this, Ji Yin’s heart, which had just settled, suddenly tightened again.
“Oh no, oh no! Are there any crash courses on meeting the parents? I’d spend my entire fortune to take one!”
“You’ve fallen. The old you would’ve despised people who throw money around like that.”
“But these are my future in-laws!”
Speaking of which, Yanzi grew a little curious about this new territory. “Do you have a clear understanding of yourself? Are you a P or a T?”
“What PPT?” Ji Yin looked utterly confused.
“…” Yanzi was speechless. She had stayed up all night searching online about lesbians, and yet this girl didn’t even know the difference between P and T. Was she, a straight woman, really going to have to give a lesson on this?!
“P and T mean if you fart, you’ll get kicked.”
” Ji Yin frowned. “What kind of nonsense is this?”
As evening approached, Li Chenyao arrived at the hospital entrance and called Lu Jiahe: “I’m downstairs.”
“Okay, I’ll get ready and come down right away,” Lu Jiahe said over the phone.
Li Chenyao put away her phone, rubbed her hands together, and walked into the lobby, where it was much warmer.
She checked out her silver wig in the mirror, she thought she looked incredibly cool today. While admiring herself, she suddenly spotted a vaguely familiar figure reflected in the mirror.
She turned around and sized up the other person.
Noticing her gaze, Cheng Jingwen looked over, approached, and asked uncertainly, “Li Chenyao?”
“That’s me.”
“Your hair is pretty trendy,” Cheng Jingwen said with an amused smile.
“Of course. Why are you at the hospital? You’re not here to see Lu Jiahe, are you?”
“No, I’m here to pick up my parents’ medical check-up reports,” Cheng Jingwen replied.
“That’s good, that’s good. I thought maybe you hadn’t moved on yet.” Seeing her remain silent, Li Chenyao hesitated and asked, “You have moved on, right?”
Cheng Jingwen gave a helpless smile and countered, “How are she and that Ji Yin doing?”
“I’m curious too. Why don’t you ask her yourself?” Li Chenyao gestured with her chin toward someone behind Cheng Jingwen.
Cheng Jingwen turned around and stared blankly at the radiant Lu Jiahe.
It had been over half a year since they last met, and Lu Jiahe seemed to be in even better spirits.
“Jingwen? What a coincidence, why are you here too?” Lu Jiahe asked in surprise.
“Here to pick up my parents’ medical reports,” Cheng Jingwen said.
Lu Jiahe nodded and smiled faintly. “Are your parents doing well?”
“Yeah, my mom recovered very well after her surgery last year.”
“That’s good to hear.”
The three of them walked out of the main entrance one after another. Seeing the other two stop at the door, Cheng Jingwen asked, “Where are you headed? Do you need a ride?”
“No need to trouble yourself. We’re having dinner with Ji Yin; she’ll be here soon,” Lu Jiahe said.
“You two… are you together?” Cheng Jingwen asked.
“Yes,” Lu Jiahe replied, her smile unwavering. “We’ve been together for almost three months now.”
“Is she good to you?”
Lu Jiahe nodded.
Cheng Jingwen’s expression turned complicated, and she nodded despondently.
The three of them stood there, the atmosphere growing a bit awkward. Li Chenyao scrolled through her phone and suddenly saw a message. She nudged Lu Jiahe and said, “Our department head is looking for a library support staff no official position, but no education requirements. Should we ask Ji Yin to give it a try?”
“The pay probably isn’t great, right?”
“Definitely not.”
“Then she won’t go for it.”
“Tsk, what other high-paying jobs are suitable for someone with low education?”
“I have one,” Cheng Jingwen interjected unexpectedly. “We’re hiring sales representatives, no education requirements, only performance matters. The catch is, you have to be hardworking and have strong social skills.”
“Hey? That actually sounds pretty suitable for Ji Yin, doesn’t it?” Li Chenyao said.
Lu Jiahe nodded as well, though she didn’t really want Ji Yin to work under Cheng Jingwen it might be awkward.
Still, it reminded her that Ji Yin would probably do well in sales.
As the three of them were discussing, two honks sounded from ahead.
Lu Jiahe and Li Chenyao glanced over, saw it was a luxury car, and turned back to continue their conversation.
“??”
Ji Yin honked again, but no one paid her any attention.
Seeing Cheng Jingwen appear out of nowhere and remembering that this person had once pursued Lu Jiahe, Ji Yin immediately got out of the car. “Jiahe.”
Hearing her voice, the three of them turned their heads in unison, staring at her dumbfounded.
Cheng Jingwen: “?”
Li Chenyao: “??”
Lu Jiahe: “???”
“Sorry I’m late, there was a bit of traffic ahead,” Ji Yin stepped forward to explain, only to find them all with question marks on their faces, each wearing a different expression.
“Whose car did you drive?” Li Chenyao was the first to ask.
“Mine,” Ji Yin replied.
Li Chenyao gave an awkward look, while Cheng Jingwen questioned, “Rented?”
“No.”
“Stop being stubborn,” Li Chenyao patted her shoulder, comforting her, “Renting a car isn’t embarrassing, but being stubborn about it is, sis.”
“It’s really not rented, I bought it!” Ji Yin said, exasperated.
“Alright, alright,” Lu Jiahe took Ji Yin’s hand, smiling nonchalantly, and asked, “Why would you buy a Porsche?”
“A fortune teller said I have a calamity in my fate, so I bought a Porsche,” Ji Yin explained.
The three of them: “…”
