Running Towards You - Chapter 61
Yanzi arrived quickly, accompanied by Dong Xiang, who had specially escorted her over.
As soon as Lu Jiahe opened the door, Yanzi eagerly grabbed her and asked, “Dr. Lu, what exactly is this about? You’re well-educated, please explain it to me properly. I couldn’t understand a single word my sister said.”
“It’s cold outside. Come in first,” Lu Jiahe replied with a gentle smile.
The two stepped inside one after the other but were stopped by Ji Yin after taking just a few steps.
“Halt.”
She stood in front of them, hands clasped behind her back, exuding an air of authority. “Raise your hands.”
Yanzi and Dong Xiang simultaneously raised their hands above their heads and crouched down.
Lu Jiahe: “…”This damn tacit understanding, what on earth have you two been through?”
“Get up,” Ji Yin said, kicking each of them lightly. She then pulled out a bottle of disinfectant spray from behind her back and sprayed them both thoroughly before allowing them to proceed. “Go on in.”
“Such a ceremonial entrance?” Yanzi remarked curiously as she walked into the living room, looking around. “Where is everyone? Didn’t you say my brother-in-law is here too?”
“Turn around and look,” Ji Yin said.
Yanzi turned around, glancing at Lu Jiahe, who was finding slippers for Dong Xiang, and then at Ji Yin, who seemed eager to say something. Confused, she asked, “Look at what?”
“Look at Dr. Lu,” Ji Yin said, pointing back at Dr. Lu.
Dr. Lu was speaking to Dong Xiang: “This is the only pair of men’s slippers. See if they fit?”
“Men’s?” Yanzi asked sharply. “Does the owner of these slippers happen to be my sister’s boyfriend? Is it one of Dr. Lu’s family members dating my sister?!”
The more Yanzi thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Otherwise, why would they call her to Dr. Lu’s house? Besides, Ji Yin and Dr. Lu were so close, maybe they were becoming relatives through marriage.
“The owner of these slippers is my father,” Lu Jiahe answered her question with a faint smile. “The person dating your sister is me.”
Dong Xiang: “???”
Yanzi: “!!!”
The two of them stared at her in shock, then turned abruptly to Ji Yin, seeking confirmation.
“Yes, she is your brother-in-law. or should I say sister-in-law? Or is there another term?” Ji Yin suddenly found herself stumped by the ethical dilemma and threw a pleading glance at Lu Jiahe.
“I don’t mind whatever they call me,” Lu Jiahe said, pouring two cups of hot water. She smiled at the two frozen figures. “Come over and have some water.”
Yanzi swallowed hard and shuffled over step by step, with Dong Xiang following closely behind, their eyes darting back and forth between the two.
“Sis Yin, you two are really dating?” Dong Xiang asked with difficulty.
“Yes, we’ve been together for over two months,” Ji Yin replied cheerfully.
Yanzi did a quick calculation sure enough, it was around two months ago that Ji Yin started showing signs of being in a relationship.
She scrunched up her face in disbelief. “How on earth did you two end up together?”
These two people, who seemed completely unrelated, had secretly started dating?
“We liked each other, so we started dating,” Ji Yin said triumphantly, shaking her leg. Lu Jiahe patted her leg, and she immediately straightened up and behaved.
Witnessing this, Yanzi felt extremely conflicted.
Help! Is this still the same Ji Yin who used to boss everyone around?
Ji Yin was rebellious and defiant, refusing to be disciplined. Even as her younger sister, Yanzi often had her well-intentioned advice thrown back in her face.
Over time, the two sisters grew accustomed to their bickering dynamic.
In the past thirty years, aside from Chen Yanhua, no one had ever been able to rein Ji Yin in.
Now, finally, there was Lu Jiahe, who had softened her.
“This is so sudden?!” Dong Xiang exclaimed, stunned.
“Not really.” Yanzi murmured. She had long sensed that Ji Yin and Lu Jiahe shared an unusual relationship, though she had never considered it in that light before.
But upon closer reflection, she realized the signs had been there all along.
Over the years, she had met many of Ji Yin’s friends, but Dr. Lu was undoubtedly the most special one sometimes so much so that even she, as a sister, felt a twinge of jealousy.
Now it all made sense it was love!
The moment she thought of this reason, Yanzi felt at ease and chuckled, “That’s great, really great. I used to wonder what kind of man would be worthy of you, and it turns out to be Dr. Lu. I think Dr. Lu is wonderful, more than a match for you. If anything, you’re the one who’s lucked out.”
Instead of getting angry, Ji Yin nodded in agreement, “I really did hit the jackpot.”
“Could you phrase it a little more elegantly?” Lu Jiahe sighed helplessly, standing up. “I’ll go cut some fruit. You chat with them.”
“Okay.” After agreeing, Ji Yin stared blankly at the others and laughed, “What is there to talk about? I can tell exactly what they’re thinking just by the way they move ”
“Sis!” Yanzi quickly made a shushing gesture and whispered, “Be more refined, be more refined. Dr. Lu is still here mind your image.”
“Oh, right.” Ji Yin shrank back, looking sheepish. “Well then, what would you like to talk about?”
“Plenty!” Yanzi immediately squeezed next to her and asked eagerly, “When did you fall for Dr. Lu, and when did you confess to him?”
“How did you know I was the one who confessed?”
“It’s obvious! Tell me honestly, did you pester Dr. Lu into dating you?” Yanzi pressed.
Ji Yin smiled smugly.
She hadn’t pestered him at all!
Dr. Lu had liked her for a long time!
Though she had no idea what exactly had attracted him to her, just thinking about it made her ecstatic!
Ji Yin: “Hehehe. Hahahahaha!”
Yanzi stared at her, baffled, unsure what had triggered such laughter, as Ji Yin collapsed onto the sofa, laughing uncontrollably.
So embarrassing.
“Get up, quick.” Seeing Lu Jiahe approach with a plate of fruit, Yanzi hurriedly pulled Ji Yin upright. “Sit properly, don’t slouch, and put your legs down.”
Ji Yin looked at her in amazement. “Time spares no one. You’ve finally turned into your mother.”
“Shut up.” Yanzi slapped her, the sound crisp and loud.
Hearing the noise, Lu Jiahe’s brow twitched. “Did that hurt?”
Ji Yin clutched her shoulder, wailing, “It hurts so much”
Yanzi: “…”
What an act!
“Let me see.” Lu Jiahe set down the fruit plate and gently pressed her arm, then turned to Yanzi and advised, “Next time, don’t hit her on this arm. It was injured not long ago and hasn’t fully recovered yet.”
Yanzi was startled and anxiously touched her arm with lingering fear. “Did I really hurt you? Is the wound okay? Do you need to go to the hospital for a check-up?”
Ji Yin let out another exaggerated cry, but seeing Yanzi and Dong Xiang growing more anxious and concerned, she couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter.
“Silly, I injured my other arm.”
“But Dr. Lu said.” Yanzi looked blankly at Lu Jiahe, only to see a sly smile on his face.
Yanzi: “…”
She had originally thought Ji Yin was out of Dr. Lu’s league, but now it seemed the two were a perfect match.
Who would have thought Lu Jiahe had a mischievous side too?
With this realization, Yanzi actually felt a sense of relief.
All along, Lu Jiahe had given her the impression of being too perfect whether it was his family background, personality, looks, or career, he was everything they dreamed of.
Being around someone like that inevitably brought pressure, which was why she had subconsciously urged Ji Yin to maintain a good image.
Yanzi chuckled helplessly. Why was she worrying so much? Both of them were smarter than her, what was there for her to fret about?
As the two of them watched their carefree interaction, they gradually accepted the reality. Dong Xiang muttered under his breath, “No wonder Sister Yin never looked for a boyfriend.”
Yanzi nodded, but she felt Ji Yin didn’t seem like someone who had liked women from a young age. Curious, she asked, “Sis, when did you realize your sexual orientation was different?”
“When I fell for Dr. Lu,” Ji Yin replied.
Yanzi suddenly understood and instinctively glanced at Lu Jiahe. “Well, that’s understandable. If I met a woman like Dr. Lu, I’d probably go gay too.”
“?” Dong Xiang suddenly felt a strong sense of crisis. “No way! Dr. Lu is already with Sister Yin!”
“Duh, of course I know that!” Yanzi yelled.
Dong Xiang: “…”
Lu Jiahe and Ji Yin both burst out laughing at the same time.
Yanzi checked the time. “It’s getting late. You two should rest early. We’ll head back now.”
Dong Xiang stood up and looked at Ji Yin. “Sister Yin, do you want to come back with us? It’s so late it’s not safe for you to go back alone.”
Before Ji Yin could answer, Yanzi dragged him away. “Hurry up, you! She’s staying at her girlfriend’s place, what’s unsafe about that?”
The two swiftly changed their shoes and left, the door slamming shut behind them.
“They’re definitely going to gossip about us and discuss our relationship,” Ji Yin said.
Lu Jiahe smiled. “Life can be dull and boring. Giving them some gossip to spice things up isn’t such a bad thing.”
“True,” Ji Yin said, stretching comfortably. Finally, she had settled a major issue.
Truth be told, she had really wanted to come out to Yanzi about their relationship but had always lacked the courage. Now, she could openly show off their affection without having to hide anymore!
It was indeed quite late. Lu Jiahe said, “I have work tomorrow.”
“Should I leave, then?” Ji Yin asked timidly.
“If you don’t mind, you can stay here for the night.”
“Of course I don’t mind!”
“Then you go take a shower first.”
“Okay.”
After they both finished showering, Lu Jiahe waited for a while. Hearing footsteps outside the door, he stared intently at the entrance.
Ji Yin stood at the doorway, smiled at him, said goodnight, and then turned and confidently walked into the guest room.
Lu Jiahe: “…”
Sooner or later, I’m locking that room.
After turning off the lights, Lu Jiahe lay in bed, tossing and turning.
After what felt like an eternity, she finally threw off the covers, intending to fetch someone from the next room. But as soon as she opened the door, she was startled by the figure standing there.
Ji Yin was lurking furtively by the door, clutching a pillow in her arms, a look of surprise on her face clearly, she had also been startled by the sudden opening of the door.
“Hey… you’re still awake too?” Ji Yin gave an awkward smile.
“What are you doing here?” Lu Jiahe asked, pointing at her pillow.
“I, my room is too cold, I couldn’t sleep,” Ji Yin said without changing her expression.
“Did you turn on the air conditioner?”
“I couldn’t find the remote.”
Lu Jiahe studied her for a moment, then smiled, took the pillow from her and tossed it onto the bed, wrapped her arms around Ji Yin’s waist, and looked up to kiss her.
Ji Yin was so absorbed in the kiss that she didn’t notice Lu Jiahe’s hand slipping into the pocket of her bathrobe and pulling something out.
“What’s this?” Lu Jiahe asked leisurely.
Ji Yin looked surprised. “Huh? This thing. does it look like a remote to you?”
