Running a Food Stall to Support My Deceptive Omega - Chapter 38.2
If it weren’t for the fact that he couldn’t swallow his pride, he might have stayed home for several more days before daring to come out.
But to make life difficult for Mu Jinyu, he specifically chose the time when the night market was busiest to cause trouble, wanting to ruin her business!
Seeing that he hadn’t managed to push over Mu Jinyu’s stall, his hand turned toward Mu Jinyu’s helper instead!
Rong Heng saw that he actually dared to move against her. Her expression turned grim, and the aura of the Regent began to spread. She prepared to thrust the wooden tongs into Zhang’s throat once more.
However, before she could strike, Mu Jinyu blocked her from behind with incredible speed.
She swatted Zhang’s hand away in one move!
She asked Rong Heng behind her, “Are you hurt?”
Rong Heng, of course, wasn’t hurt. But she glanced at Mu Jinyu’s back, used her wide sleeve to hide her movement, and pinched the back of her own hand.
Then, she showed the reddened back of her hand to Mu Jinyu.
She said nothing, and she didn’t need to say anything.
When Mu Jinyu saw the red mark on her hand, her mind went blank for a moment.
If Zhang wanted to cause trouble, he should come for her. What kind of person picks on Rong Heng?
Rong Heng’s injuries had only recently healed; she was so delicate and weak. How could she withstand Zhang’s rough actions?
Mu Jinyu was fuming. Her entire face changed with rage, looking like a chili pepper about to explode.
Seeing Zhang about to lung at them again, she didn’t even think. She stepped out from behind the cart and kicked the man squarely in the chest!
Thump—!
No one present expected that the ever-cheerful and kind Stallholder Mu could actually get into a fight with someone!
And even send them flying with a single kick!
The onlookers retreated even further, creating an even larger space for fear of being caught in the crossfire.
Before the fallen Zhang could even crawl back up, Mu Jinyu walked over to him, grabbed him by the collar, and warned him angrily, “If you want to cause trouble, come to me! Do you hear me?”
Zhang hadn’t even recovered from the sharp pain just now. Before he could answer, he was punched in the face by Mu Jinyu!
“Ah!” Zhang screamed. He hadn’t expected to be beaten before he had even done anything. He struggled and tried to fight back.
Mu Jinyu was currently livid. Her mind was filled with the image of the red mark on Rong Heng’s hand.
It didn’t matter if she was bullied; setting up a stall always involved various issues, and it was fine as long as they were resolved. But Rong Heng could not be bullied.
Rong Heng shouldn’t have to suffer these grievances alongside her.
She chased after Zhang, hitting him and shouting fiercely, “Whatever you want to do, come for me! It has nothing to do with anyone else!”
Zhang had intended to fight back, but under Mu Jinyu’s rain of fists, he was beaten into a sorry state. He couldn’t even run away in time, let alone strike back.
Miserable screams echoed through the entire night market street.
Many of the surrounding stallholders knew it was Zhang who had been provoking Mu Jinyu all along, so they didn’t interfere.
However, seeing that Mu Jinyu was hitting him quite hard and fearing she might cause serious injury, they eventually stepped forward to pull her away.
“Alright, alright, Stallholder Mu. That’s enough. He’s learned his lesson.”
“Calm down, Stallholder Mu. We still have to do business later.”
Rong Heng, who had been standing behind the cart, walked out. She took Mu Jinyu’s hand, leading her back easily.
She had intended to tell Mu Jinyu she was fine, but the bruised and battered Zhang was quicker to shout, “I won’t let you get away with this!”
“…” Rong Heng’s face took on a sinister smile as she uttered a single word: “Beat it!”
Zhang was terrified. He sat on the ground for a good while before regaining his senses. Muttering “I won’t let you get away with this” under his breath, he stumbled away.
Rong Heng, of course, had no intention of letting him off. She looked toward Secret Guard Two, who was standing in the crowd.
Secret Guard Two understood her meaning, nodded, and vanished from the crowd to follow Zhang.
With the matter settled, Rong Heng held Mu Jinyu’s hand and sat on the small stool behind the cart. She looked at the bruises on Mu Jinyu’s hand from hitting him too hard.
Suddenly, she felt a bit angry.
There shouldn’t be anyone, other than herself, who could leave a mark on Mu Jinyu.
The beauty marks under her dark eyes reflected a hint of red. She gently stroked the wound, comforting her, “It’s alright. Be good.”
She had always known that Mu Jinyu had a good temper. If someone provoked her, as long as they apologized, the matter would be settled, and she wouldn’t pursue it.
So, Rong Heng had intentionally let Mu Jinyu believe she was hurt because she wanted to see what Mu Jinyu would do.
The result was perfect.
She reached out and patted Mu Jinyu’s head, feeling that the woman had performed well.
Still caught up in her anger, Mu Jinyu’s face suddenly turned red at Rong Heng’s gesture. She peeked at her surroundings and indeed found quite a few people secretly watching them.
She felt a bit ashamed. She hadn’t handled the scene just now very well; she had been too emotional.
And Rong Heng was treating her like a child.
Mu Jinyu turned her head away and whispered, “People are watching.”
The corner of Rong Heng’s mouth twitched into an almost imperceptible smile.
Late that night, after they had both washed up, Mu Jinyu was still hesitant. she didn’t want to sleep in the same bed as Rong Heng, fearing she would do something excessive in her sleep again.
But when Rong Heng simply held her hand, she felt a bit lost and didn’t know how to refuse.
The two lay in the same bed. After Rong Heng applied medicine to the injuries on Mu Jinyu’s hand, she leaned into her embrace. Her fingers toyed with Mu Jinyu’s hair, slowly winding it around her fingers.
It was inexplicably intimate, making Mu Jinyu feel somewhat parched. Her body kept shifting toward the outer edge, trying to create distance between herself and Rong Heng.
But Rong Heng acted as if she hadn’t noticed, staying pressed against her chest and not letting her move away at all.
Mu Jinyu was helpless. She felt as if ants were crawling all over her body; nothing felt right.
“Not sleeping?” Rong Heng said softly. “If you’re not sleeping, let’s do something else.”
Rong Heng’s fingers moved toward Mu Jinyu’s stomach, light as willow branches, sliding upward.
It was too dark in the room for Mu Jinyu to see Rong Heng’s expression, and she had no idea what Rong Heng was up to.
She simply jolted, suddenly pulling in her stomach. Then she rolled over, facing outward and wrapping her blanket tighter.
“Go to sleep!”
Rong Heng gave a small laugh.
She didn’t sleep. Instead, after Mu Jinyu had fallen asleep, she got up and went out to the courtyard.
Secret Guard One and Secret Guard Two jumped down from the roof and knelt on one knee before her.
Secret Guard One held up a cloth bag filled with fennel and said, “Master, please use this for now. Tomorrow, I will buy the two houses next to yours so I can have fennel ready for you at any time.”
“I have also found a physician. Do you need a consultation?”
Rong Heng took the fennel and said, “No need.”
Secret Guard Two followed up: “I gave that stallholder another beating. I will keep a close eye on him to ensure he doesn’t trouble you again.”
Rong Heng nodded and inquired about the flood situation.
Secret Guard One replied, “The Emperor has assigned the Right Minister to handle it.”
Rong Heng’s face remained expressionless.
In the current imperial court, there were three major powers: the Left Minister, the Right Minister, and herself, the Regent.
The Left Minister possessed immense power and had been suppressing the Emperor since his ascension. He had seized power several times, wanting the Emperor to be a puppet. Later, the Emperor allied with the Right Minister, having the Right Minister assist him in countering the Left Minister.
As for herself, from the moment her own power grew until she became the Regent, she had held the intention of assisting the Emperor and had begun to lean toward the Emperor’s faction.
However, within her own faction, there were clearly people who did not think the same way.
Her father was a member of the imperial clan, and she also had imperial blood in her veins.
The Emperor needed her abilities and the Right Minister to counter the Left Minister—preferably to bring him down so the Emperor could secure his throne.
At the same time, the Emperor feared her power would become too great. He worried she might have intentions of usurping the throne after the Left Minister was defeated.
As a result, her poisoning and subsequent assassination attempt had been reduced to nothing more than a routine search for assassins by court officials.
The current Emperor didn’t exactly want her to stay alive.
The moon in the night sky was perfectly round. Rong Heng stood in the courtyard, an aura of slaughter surrounding her.
Her voice was devoid of emotion as she spoke simply: “Do not touch the people the Right Minister sent to manage the flood. Find the person who provides counsel to the Right Minister, kill them, and throw their head before the Emperor.”
She would not touch those helping the common people, but someone had to be held responsible for her poisoning, right?
Secret Guard Two replied, “Yes.”
Rong Heng’s gaze sharpened. She turned and walked back into the house with the bag of fennel.
She lay back down in bed with Mu Jinyu. Looking at Mu Jinyu’s sleeping face, her finger touched the tip of the woman’s nose.
Let’s see if the fennel works.
She lay in Mu Jinyu’s arms, not letting Mu Jinyu’s hand touch her, but her own arm was wrapped around Mu Jinyu’s waist.
She snuggled closer to Mu Jinyu before closing her eyes and falling asleep.
Early the next morning, Rong Heng woke up feeling refreshed.
She indeed remembered everything clearly. She gave a small smile, her mood significantly improved.
Mu Jinyu was still sleeping. She rolled over and lay on Mu Jinyu’s chest, her cool fingertip touching her eyelashes. Seeing that the woman hadn’t woken, she then touched her nose and lips.
Mu Jinyu looked very healthy; her lips were quite red and full.
And soft.
Her finger felt like it was pressing against a soft pastry; it was very tender.
She became lost in thought as she pressed, wondering why Mu Jinyu held such an attraction for her.
Was Mu Jinyu special to her?
She didn’t think so.
It was just that Mu Jinyu was very interesting. Knowing who she was, the woman had still saved her, taken care of her, and even dared to mark her.
Truly audacious.
Rong Heng felt that Mu Jinyu was no different from anyone else. Her staying was merely because she wanted to punish Mu Jinyu.
Once she grew tired of playing with Mu Jinyu, she would naturally leave.
The finger pressing on Mu Jinyu’s lips slid downward to her neck, stroking the red mark she had left there.
The mark from being throttled was beginning to fade. What should be done about that?
Rong Heng propped herself up. Her head moved to the side of Mu Jinyu’s neck, and she bit down!
Mu Jinyu cried out in pain and woke up instantly, immediately realizing that Rong Heng was biting her.
She pushed at the person pinning her down, not understanding. Had she done something again?
After a long moment, the person pulled away, leaving a circle of tooth marks on her neck.
