- Roommate Won't Spoil His Pretty Boyfriend? Fine, I'll Do It
- Chapter 8 - Bai Shijin Doesn't Know What Morals Are?
Bai Shijin wished he could tell Mu Nian right this moment that his boyfriend was a shameless scumbag. As long as Mu Nian found out and broke up with him, he would no longer need to be bound by morals or feel any guilt about liking Mu Nian.
Not answering Mu Nian’s question, Bai Shijin shifted topics and asked, “You have a heart condition? Is that true?”
Mu Nian paused. The traffic light turned green.
Stepping on the gas pedal, Mu Nian said, “Qinfan even told you about that? It looks like your relationship with him is really quite good.”
It was most likely true, then.
“I just happened to hear about it.”
“It’s no big deal. As long as I take my medicine on time, I’m no different from a normal person. You don’t have to treat me like a patient.”
Mu Nian spoke with resilience, completely omitting the agony of his heart condition. He did not need anyone’s pity.
Little did he know that the person sitting beside him felt only heartache.
Bai Shijin’s lips trembled slightly. After pressing them into a tight line for a moment, he asked, “You can’t take any emotional shocks?”
“That depends on what kind of shock it is,” Mu Nian said. “If it’s just minor squabbles or bumps and bruises, those don’t matter.”
Unsure of how severe a shock Ye Qinfan’s infidelity would be to Mu Nian, Bai Shijin dared not speak out rashly, fearing that Mu Nian might actually have a relapse just as Ye Qinfan had claimed.
“Why did you stop talking? What kind of shocking thing were you going to tell me?”
Pondering for a moment, Bai Shijin replied, “Nothing.”
This matter had to be handled step by step, hinting to Mu Nian little by little rather than letting him know too much all at once.
With a soft “Oh,” Mu Nian’s phone rang in his pocket.
Taking the initiative to retrieve it, Bai Shijin looked at the caller ID and whispered gently, “Little Treasure.”
“Help me press answer.”
Bai Shijin pressed the answer button. Since the phone was connected to the car’s Bluetooth, Ye Qinfan’s voice echoed loudly from the speakers: “Niannian, where are you? Why is it taking so long? I miss you.”
Bai Shijin’s throat felt dry as he glanced at the caller ID one more time to confirm he hadn’t misread it.
It really said “Little Treasure.”
Affectionate nicknames between couples certainly were enough to make one’s teeth ache.
Mu Nian replied, “I just left. The school is a bit far, so it’ll take a while.”
Ye Qinfan protested, “But it’s already midnight. There’s no way he can get into the school dorms now. Just find some random hotel by the roadside to drop him off at, and come back to keep me company.”
Mu Nian clicked his tongue lightly, suddenly remembering that university dormitories had curfews.
Saying he understood, he hung up the phone.
Bai Shijin said, “Then drop me off here. I can find a hotel myself.”
Pulling the car over to the roadside, Mu Nian rolled down the window and glanced at the brightly lit streets in the middle of the night. “Hotels around here aren’t cheap. You’re a student, do you have money?”
Bai Shijin wasn’t actually short on cash, but to play the pitiful card, he deliberately said, “I have enough money for a room, but once I spend it, I’ll probably have to live off instant noodles for a few days.”
“That won’t do. You should avoid eating those things as much as possible,” Mu Nian mused for a moment. “How about you crash at my place for the night? Well, not even a full night, just a few hours until dawn, so you won’t need to waste money on a hotel.”
Bai Shijin’s gaze trembled slightly, his chest blooming like a flower as he confirmed, “Go to your place? Will that bother you?”
“No, my place is pretty close and there’s a guest room.”
Then he would accept the offer without standing on ceremony.
Nodding, Bai Shijin said, “Alright, thank you.”
Making a U-turn, Mu Nian instructed, “And don’t mention this to Qinfan. He’s petty, and if he finds out, he’ll start throwing tantrums again.”
Ah, so he was allowed to stay, but Ye Qinfan wasn’t?
“May I ask why you didn’t let him move in with you?”
“My place isn’t very close to his school; how could it be as convenient as staying in the dorms? He just acts on whatever whim crosses his mind, and besides, I’m busy with work most of the time and wouldn’t be able to look after him.”
“Oh.”
Mu Nian’s home was spacious and clean, with a faint scent of lavender laundry detergent lingering in the air.
Handing Bai Shijin a pair of new slippers and explaining where the guest room and bathroom were, Mu Nian headed back to the hospital.
Standing alone in the living room, Bai Shijin felt as though he were dreaming.
He actually managed to move into Mu Nian’s home.
The more he interacted with Mu Nian, the more he fell in love with him.
Ye Qinfan didn’t deserve him; truly, he didn’t deserve him at all.
With a flash in his eyes, Bai Shijin took out the business card from his pocket and saved the phone number into his contacts.
To hell with morals. Bai Shijin didn’t know what morals were; he only knew that if you liked something, you had to fight for it.
Back at the hospital, Mu Nian carried a takeout container of food inside.
Terrified that Bai Shijin might spill the beans, Ye Qinfan had been shaking with anxiety.
Yet seeing that Mu Nian was still as attentive to him as ever, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Devouring the seafood congee bought by Mu Nian, Ye Qinfan asked, “Niannian, Bai Shijin didn’t say anything weird to you, did he?”
“Weird things? What do you mean?”
“Nothing, it’s just that I was worried he might hold a grudge against me, try to drive a wedge between us, and say some unrealistic things.”
Mu Nian was still trying to contact models, but things were not going well. Sighing, he placated, “Unrealistic things won’t become true no matter how nicely they’re phrased. As long as you haven’t done anything wrong, why would I care about his attempts to stir trouble?”
With a guilty conscience, Ye Qinfan smiled. “Niannian is right.”
Having been rejected by several models, Mu Nian realized that Qin Quan was truly out to get him this time.
He let out a long sigh of frustration, which finally caught Ye Qinfan’s attention. Pausing from his congee, Ye Qinfan asked, “Niannian, what’s wrong? Are things not going smoothly at work?”
Knowing it was useless to talk to Ye Qinfan and that Ye Qinfan couldn’t help him anyway, Mu Nian indeed needed a listener right now, so he said, “Qin Quan hijacked the models I was supposed to use, and now the project can’t move forward. All the famous models have already been warned by him. I am currently out of ideas.”
“Brother Qin?” Ye Qinfan said indignantly. “How can he bully you like this? If my brother were still around, he definitely wouldn’t let him run wild.”
Stirring up his own sorrowful memories, Ye Qinfan choked back a sob after finishing his sentence.
Mu Nian had originally wanted to seek comfort, but instead he ended up having to comfort him, adding even more to his stress.
“Alright, don’t dwell on it. I’ll figure it out. No matter how powerful Qin Quan is, it’s impossible for him to have made arrangements with every single model out there.”
Rolling his eyes in thought, Ye Qinfan suggested, “Niannian, why don’t I model for you? Qin Quan can’t poach me away.”
Mu Nian frowned. “You? Do you know how to walk a runway?”
“I can learn! What’s so hard about it? It’s just walking a couple of steps,” Ye Qinfan said self-righteously. “My physique is pretty good too. Feel my abs.”
With that, he grabbed Mu Nian’s hand and pressed it directly against his abdomen.
Instinctively retracting his fingertips, Mu Nian pulled away. “Stop messing around.”
Using an amateur as a model wasn’t entirely out of the question, and Ye Qinfan’s face was quite photogenic. Perhaps he could work.
Studying him for a moment, Mu Nian calculated whether the injuries on his face could heal before the event started.
“Wait, how tall are you?”
“One hundred eighty-three point seven centimeters. Why?”
Jiang Qiong was one hundred eighty-five. If he really used an amateur, they had to be at least one hundred eighty-five centimeters tall to properly carry the clothes.
Mu Nian sighed. “No good, you fall a bit short.”
Refusing to give up, Ye Qinfan acted spoiled. “Niannian, just let me try. I really want to help you.”
Helplessly, Mu Nian replied, “Alright, in a few days I’ll hold a casting session at the company, and you can come try out.”
“Awesome, Niannian is the best.”
