Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 7
In the brightly lit hall, Mother Mo was lounging on a tasseled sofa cushion, chatting away on the phone.
“Mrs. Lin, don’t even mention my useless one, you really must see this new pendant I just ordered-”
The moment her eyes landed on Mo Wang, her instinctively cheerful smile froze. But Mo Wang strode forward, opened her arms, and affectionately embraced Mother Mo, as if genuinely cherishing their long-awaited reunion.
“Mom, it’s been a while.”
Mother Mo raised a hand, instinctively wanting to push her away, but suddenly caught herself and hung up the phone first.
By then, Mo Wang had already ended the hug and moved to hold Mother Mo’s hand instead. Mother Mo’s gaze lingered on the bandage on Mo Wang’s neck, then shifted to scrutinize Mo Li’s tightly buttoned shirt collar.
Mo Li felt a pang of guilt under her stare.
But surely, most people wouldn’t jump to any inappropriate conclusions just from seeing the two sisters together.
Gaining some confidence, she handed over her gift bag.
“Happy birthday, Mother. This is a custom nightgown from Master Ivan.”
Mother Mo’s expression softened slightly, but Mo Wang, empty-handed, suddenly chimed in, “Mom is so young and beautiful, she doesn’t need such tacky things. Better let me have it instead.”
Her arm slipped around Mother Mo from behind, almost wrapping around her neck. Mo Wang spoke nearly into her ear, and a look of extreme reluctance flashed across Mother Mo’s face, yet she only averted her gaze without pulling away.
Before Mo Li could dwell on it, Mo Wang guided Mother Mo toward the dining room. As they walked, the household staff whispered among themselves.
After Mo Wang had been driven out, Mother Mo, being unskilled at managing the household, had kept nearly all the original staff in place.
On the elegant tablecloth, only three gleaming place settings were arranged. Without batting an eye, Mo Wang seated Mother Mo at the head of the table, then pulled Mo Li to sit beside her.
Dragging a plate in front of herself, she smiled with utter ease. “I knew Mom still had me in her heart, she even saved a meal for me.”
The staff, looking puzzled, began serving the dishes one after another: Longjing shrimp, sweet and sour ribs, roasted lamb chops, pine nut corn, all of Mo Wang’s favorites were placed right in front of her.
Mo Li stared at the simple stir-fried seasonal vegetables before her, and her options gradually became clear in her mind.
First, move Mo Wang to this bland spot.
Then, fire every single one of these disloyal Mo family servants.
In the brief moment she was lost in thought, a lamb chop was dropped onto her plate. This one was slightly over-roasted, a bit charred, with only a thin layer of meat clinging to it and a large bone exposed.
She looked up to see Mo Wang raising her chopsticks with a provocative smirk, mouthing soundless words:
For. You.
Without even glancing at it, Mo Li picked up the chop and took a bite, baring her pale teeth at Mo Wang.
As long as it was edible, even the tiniest morsel was something she wouldn’t refuse.
Snap.
A crisp sound, Mother Mo seemed to have finally had enough. She slammed her chopsticks down heavily, her face darkening as she cut straight to the point.
“Why have you come back?”
Mo Wang picked up her napkin, wiped her mouth, and wore a satisfied expression as if she’d just finished a feast, though she’d barely eaten a few bites.
“Just to see you, and to ask for some pocket money.”
Mother Mo’s face twisted as if she’d swallowed a fly, disbelief written all over it.
“Pocket money?”
Mo Wang replied matter-of-factly, “Isn’t it perfectly normal for parents to support their struggling children?”
As she spoke, she lowered her gaze and tugged at the already loose collar of her shirt.
As if witnessing something unbearable, Mo’s mother immediately averted her eyes, her fists clenching and unclenching before she finally let out a sigh of resignation.
“Five hundred.”
Mo Wang shook her head. “Two thousand.”
Mo’s mother glared. “I meant five million!”
Mo Wang feigned innocence. “I meant twenty million.”
Mo’s mother, enraged, let out a bitter laugh. “Where would I get that kind of money?”
Mo Wang’s smile vanished as she leisurely tapped the table with her index finger. Mo Li was all too familiar with this gesture, it was a sign of her rising anger.
Mo Wang’s tone was sharp and icy. “You’re quite capable, aren’t you? Every secretary and manager Dad has ever had, if they were an Omega, you’d plant people to frame them or pressure them until their careers were ruined.”
“Is it because you’re afraid they might climb their way up like you did?”
At the mention of this, Mo Li perked up, crossing her legs and leaning back in her chair, ears pricked. But Mo Wang, as if she had eyes in the back of her head, pressed her leg back down.
Everyone in the family avoided discussing the circumstances of Mo Li’s birth and the events before she went missing. Even after living in this household for over a decade, Mo Li had only glimpsed the superficial glamour and mundane tedium that masked the truth.
Unearthing those old, buried secrets had always been Mo Wang’s specialty.
“You relied on your looks to get by, and now that your beauty has faded, so has his affection. You’re uneasy, aren’t you? Dad’s been coming home very late recently, hasn’t he? I heard he’s been getting close to Mrs. Lin’s younger sister. Mom, can you really take on the Lin family? Do you dare?”
Mo Wang swiped her phone screen, and a picture of Mo’s father walking arm-in-arm with a slender young woman, laughing intimately, appeared.
“There are even more intimate photos. I’ve sent them to your email, consider it a birthday gift.”
Struck where it hurt, Mo’s mother turned pale. Perhaps years of living in comfort had made her forget how to handle such scandals. In a fit of rage, she abruptly raised her hand and hurled her wine glass violently at Mo Wang.
Mo Li intercepted the glass just an inch from Mo Wang’s forehead.
She crushed the glass in her hand, shards clattering to the floor. Wine mixed with blood dripped down, the scent of pheromones emanating from the blood, a warning and a defense.
Mo Wang narrowed her eyes in satisfaction, relishing the bloody scent.
Gently pushing Mo Li’s hand aside, her voice trembled with excitement as she continued to incite with fervent eyes.
“I’m not here to upset you. Twenty million, Mom, and I’ll handle this for you. I’ll make sure Dad only has eyes for you, forever…”
Mo’s mother, who had just been overwhelmed by the overpowering Alpha pheromones and buried her head, looked up at these words. Her lips moved soundlessly a few times before she finally managed to ask:
“Forever?”
Mo Wang grinned, her voice drawn out and suggestive. “That’s right, forever.”
Hope ignited in Mo’s mother’s eyes. “Ten million. I’ll give you ten million. Get rid of that bitch for me. If you do it well, the rest is yours.”
“Within a week, you’ll have the results you want.”
Having achieved her goal, Mo Wang curled her lips into a smile, slung her bag over her shoulder, and turned to leave.
Mo Li stood up to follow. “I’ll see you out.”
No matter how strained their relationship, Mo Li wasn’t so callous as to let an Omega in heat go home alone.
“Stop!” Mo’s mother’s sharp command came from behind. “You are not to go.”
Seeing that Mo Li did not turn back, Mother Mo called out again, “Mo Wang, don’t forget the kindness the Mo family has shown you! Stay away from us from now on.”
Mo Wang turned around and smiled gently, “Mom, that’s a separate price.”
