Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 47
She leaned against the stone railing, eager and hopeful.
Mo Wang froze mid-motion, turning back to look at Mo Li with a gaze full of doubt and shock, as if Mo Li had been possessed by something unclean.
She was speechless for a long moment. “This is a public hot spring. If you want to try, go ahead and try by yourself.”
Of course, Mo Li didn’t test it herself. Burdened with doubts and confusion, she had a restless sleep beside Mo Wang.
The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through the hotel curtains as the two remained entwined in an intimate embrace. Mo Wang lay partially on top of her, one arm draped over Mo Li’s shoulder, her face buried in the crook of Mo Li’s neck.
Mo Li glanced at the time, still early.
But Mo Wang was already rubbing her eyes and sitting up.
Seeing this, Mo Li no longer felt like sleeping either. Wrapping her arms around Mo Wang’s waist, she followed her step by step into the bathroom.
Mo Wang moved quickly, full of energy, leaving Mo Li alone to brush her teeth at a sluggish pace.
By the time Mo Li finished freshening up and returned to the bedside, Mo Wang was already curling her hair in front of the vanity mirror.
Mo Li narrowed her eyes. There was something distinctly different about Mo Wang today.
She had changed into a white blazer paired with a sheer white skirt that brushed against her legs, looking exceptionally refined and beautiful.
Then Mo Li recalled the white veil and the small dark blue box on the desk.
No way!
Mo Li’s eyes widened in shock, her tongue tangling in her mouth.
“M-Mo Wang…”
Hearing her, Mo Wang set down the curling iron and turned with a smile.
“How do I look? Pretty?”
Mo Li swallowed hard. “Pretty, but why are you…”
“If it looks good, then I won’t bother calling a stylist. Too much hassle,” Mo Wang said, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
She picked up the small box and gradually approached, a radiant smile gracing her face.
She was as beautiful as a dew-sprite from the forest.
Mo Li’s heart felt like it was about to leap out of her throat.
This was all so sudden, Mo Wang hadn’t given her any time to prepare!
Glancing down at her wrinkled pajamas and disposable slippers, Mo Li couldn’t help feeling utterly unworthy of this meticulously planned moment.
With a gentle press of the clasp, Mo Wang opened the box.
A simple silver diamond ring lay on the velvet lining, shimmering faintly like a teardrop at the corner of a lover’s eye.
“What do you think?”
Mo Wang asked with unshakable calm.
The question held too many possibilities.
Was she asking about her outfit? The ring’s design? Or perhaps the weather, her complexion, or her lipstick shade?
Mo Li warned herself not to overthink it.
Mo Wang must simply be asking about the ring’s style and the clothes for future reference in expanding their company’s fashion market.
All she needed to say was, “It looks beautiful.”
But her mouth suddenly betrayed her, and the words in her heart spilled out.
“I… I do.”
The moment her eyes met Mo Wang’s satisfied smile, Mo Li understood. All her earlier tension and speculation vanished into thin air.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
She watched delightedly as Mo Wang slipped the ring onto her finger.
It fit perfectly.
“If I’d told you earlier, there’d be no surprise,” Mo Wang murmured, bending to kiss the tip of Mo Li’s ring-adorned finger.
Overwhelmed with excitement, Mo Li tried to pull Mo Wang onto the bed with her.
But Mo Wang skillfully slipped away.
She opened the wardrobe, pulled out a matching white blazer and sheer skirt, and tossed them onto the bed.
“Put these on. They should suit you well,” she said, giving Mo Li an approving once-over. “The wedding begins in a few hours.”
Mo Li was curiously holding the custom-made gauze dress when she heard Mo Wang’s words. Instantly, her head spun, her hand loosened, and she collapsed onto the bed along with the dress.
Who rushes straight to the wedding venue right after a successful proposal?!
Mo Wang grabbed her by the collar and pulled her up.
“Don’t crush the dress.”
Mo Li, overwhelmed by the shock, could only giggle foolishly: “You’re so quick, dear.”
Mo Wang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry as she helped her into the intricate strapless gown and patiently applied her makeup.
The soft powder puff, carrying the fragrance of cosmetics, glided back and forth across her face. Mo Li gradually regained her composure and suddenly asked, “By preparing the wedding directly, didn’t you ever consider that I might not accept the proposal?”
“Don’t move.” Mo Wang clicked her tongue while curling her eyelashes, and Mo Li immediately held her breath.
“If you hadn’t agreed, I would have just called off the wedding and sent everyone away. Then, when you did agree, I’d organize another one.”
Warm breaths brushed gently against her face.
Mo Li suppressed the urge to smile, as if she could secretly hide this happiness away.
She retorted stubbornly, “You make it sound so easy.”
“Don’t move!!”
“Yes, ma’am!”
…
The wedding venue was set up in a grand hall of another hotel. Crystal chandeliers refracted countless beams of light, illuminating the bustling, crowded space.
Mo Li peeked out from behind the curtain and recognized many familiar faces, it seemed like all the influential figures from City A had gathered here.
Mo Li’s parents sat in a corner, wearing large hats and bowing their heads as if trying to avoid attention.
Mo Wang pointed casually from behind her.
“Look, your ex-wife.”
Lin Qianying was holding a wine glass, gracefully conversing with a wealthy businessman. As they spoke, her gaze inadvertently swept over to them, and a faint smile curled at the corners of her lips.
“Nonsense, we were never even engaged.” Mo Li hurriedly deflected, trying to shift the focus.
She pointed in another direction. “Look, your ex-boyfriend.”
Luo Liming stood there with an air of righteousness. After dyeing his flashy blond hair black, he looked much more serious, and many people were crowding around him.
Mo Wang unceremoniously flicked her forehead. “Nonsense.”
Rubbing her forehead, Mo Li said, “Seriously, with so many acquaintances here, if the host asks us to say something cheesy later, won’t it be awkward?”
“I think so too.” Mo Wang nodded, her white veil swaying softly with the movement. “That’s why there’s no host today. We’ll just go through the motions, and from now on, we’ll be an open couple in front of everyone.”
She lowered her head as if coaxing a child who didn’t want to perform on Children’s Day.
“We could even sneak away.”
“Let’s not do that.” Mo Li didn’t hesitate. “It’s a rare opportunity. I want to openly be your lover for once.”
The soft wedding music began to play, and everyone quieted down, turning their attention toward the side of the curtain.
Mo Li pulled her head back, realizing it was time for them to make their appearance.
“Wait, your dress is caught.”
Mo Wang, sharp-eyed, bent down and patiently unhooked the gauze dress from the nail.
But someone seemed impatient. A gunshot suddenly rang out from the banquet hall behind the curtain. After a moment of silence, screams erupted incessantly.
Mo Wang grew alert. She yanked the caught dress free, straightened up, and looked toward the banquet hall.
Another gunshot sounded, and Mo Wang quickly pulled her head back.
A bullet hole was scorched into the wall before their eyes, the shell casing clattering to a stop at Mo Li’s feet, still searing hot.
Mo Wang grabbed Mo Li and dashed toward the hidden passage.
“Follow me. They set this ambush specifically for us.”
