Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 42.4
Returning to her office, Mo Li began packing her things. Secretary Su, having heard the news, hurried over.
“I heard you’ve been suspended and removed from your position,” she said, disbelief written all over her face.
“Yes,” Mo Li replied, moving a stack of heavy files and dusting off the bottom of the cabinet before casually handing them to Secretary Su.
Secretary Su instinctively took them, her arm dropping under the weight, nearly losing her balance.
“How could this happen? The CEO said you’d made contributions and planned to confirm you in the role!”
Mo Li paused briefly. “The other shareholders disagreed. It was my failure.”
“Which shareholder would dare oppose Chairman Mo’s direct appointment-” Secretary Su cut herself off as the realization dawned on her.
“It was Miss Mo Wang, wasn’t it?”
Her eyes instantly reddened with anger. “I never thought she was that kind of person.”
Mo Li found her reaction somewhat baffling. “I’ve just lost my job. From now on, I’ll have to rely on her to support me.”
Little did she know, these words would prove prophetic.
No sooner had Mo Li finished speaking than the office door was forcefully pushed open. Mo Wang and Father Mo stood side by side, one beaming with a radiant smile, the other with a face ashen with fury.
Realizing her presence would hinder the conversation, Secretary Su slammed the stack of documents down with a loud thud before striding out of the office, deliberately bumping into Mo Wang’s shoulder on her way out.
The office door clicked shut.
Father Mo spoke first, his teeth gritted in barely suppressed rage. “The board just held an emergency meeting,” he spat out bitterly. “They’ve decided to appoint Mo Wang as interim CEO of the Mo Corporation.”
Mo Li was utterly stunned.
She had never seen the board convene so swiftly or reach a decision with such speed.
Father Mo continued, his voice strained as though choking back emotion. “This was agreed upon by Director Lin, myself, and the other board members.”
Having delivered the announcement, he could no longer contain his temper. He hurled the documents in his hand to the ground with a violent crash.
Mo Wang shot him a glance. Uncharacteristically, Father Mo reined in his anger, straightened his collar, cast a sharp look at Mo Li, and stormed out without another word.
Left alone in the room with Mo Wang, Mo Li felt the awkward tension thicken in the air.
Breaking the silence, she cautiously began, “All your meticulous scheming, was it just for…”
“This? Acting CEO? The entire Mo Corporation?”
Mo Wang shook her head. “I’ve said it before, I want what I rightfully deserve.”
She took a seat first, her aura now fully unleashed, no longer holding back her sharp edges.
Mo Li was incredulous. “So, you want money, shares, the company? Why go through all this trouble, even scheming with Lin Qianying? With your abilities-”
Mo Wang looked up, cutting her off. “I want to marry you. That’s something no amount of money, power, ability, or connections can achieve for me.”
“That’s why I need leverage to counterbalance Father. I need to place an equal weight on the scales when negotiating with him.”
Mo Li let out a cold laugh.
“If you want to get married, we can forget all this messy business and elope right now. No one would ever find us, no matter where we go.”
“Is that so?” Mo Wang retorted. “Have you really thought this through?”
Her eyes reddened slightly. “But when we talked last time, you hadn’t considered any of this. You hadn’t thought about marriage, nor had you thought about our future.”
She continued, “Mo Li, you don’t love me. You just like me a little.”
“No, I just-”
“Even if you have the slightest affection for me, it’s only for the persona I’ve crafted beneath this facade.”
“Do you know what I did to the man who almost adopted me? I had him tortured, squeezed dry, and cut off what was already useless.”
“And An Suna… I told you, didn’t I? I gutted her and threw her in the basement.”
“And Luo Licheng. Even though I’m just as guilty of succumbing to desires, with no right to judge him, I still pulled the trigger.”
“But do you know how ecstatically I laughed when I killed An Suna? If you saw this insane, perverted, malicious, ugly, greedy, and cruel side of me, would you still want a future with me?”
Mo Li listened to her vent, trying to offer comfort. “Of course, I know you’re not as innocent as you appear…”
But Mo Wang refused to listen. Her gaze was obsessive, like a gambler staking everything. “It doesn’t matter what you think of me. I’ve long been prepared.”
“If I don’t have something, I’ll fight for it. Even if you don’t like me, I’ll make sure you can’t leave me.”
Her tone was filled with a possessive madness.
“Have you noticed our shares? I hold 14%, and you hold 13%. If we join forces, even Father, with his 25% stake, can’t overturn our decisions. But if you don’t ally with me, you’ll achieve nothing.”
Mo Li’s fingers tightened slightly. Mo Wang’s controlling nature erupted overwhelmingly, almost hysterically, yet she felt no panic.
Instead, an indescribable emotion spread within her.
Like a drifting duckweed, held tightly so it wouldn’t float away with the current.
It was a mutual empathy between two people who lacked a sense of security.
“Father is furious. He’s frozen your cards, so you should continue staying at my place.” Seeing Mo Li silent, Mo Wang gradually calmed down. She took a deep breath and swept the heavy stack of documents off the two-seater sofa.
“But before that…”
Mo Wang tapped her knee, signaling for Mo Li to come closer.
“Make me feel good, otherwise I’ll feel like I’ve lost out.”
…
Mo Wang was still running a slight fever, and Mo Li originally didn’t want to do anything in the office, but Mo Wang was unusually stubborn today.
Mo Li had no choice but to lock the door and let her have her way.
She had never seen Mo Wang so passionate and bold before, perhaps because she felt she had laid everything bare in front of Mo Li, leaving nothing to hold back.
However, Mo Wang’s energy was limited. After one round of mischief, she had little strength left, and it was Mo Li who supported her as they made their way home together.
Watching Mo Wang lying in bed obediently drinking warm water and taking her medicine, Mo Li found it hard to imagine that she could be so insecure and so fearful.
She reached out and gently touched Mo Wang’s forehead.
“Aren’t you being well-behaved and adorable? Why do you talk about yourself like that?”
But Mo Wang, overly sensitive at the moment, asked, “You don’t believe me?”
Mo Li quickly raised her hands in a gesture of innocence. “Absolutely not. I’ve seriously thought about it. Maybe I don’t like you as much as you’d hoped, and I can’t offer the kind of reassurance that makes you feel secure.”
“But after hearing what you said and understanding that side of you, I truly, genuinely want to keep being with you.”
After pouring out this heartfelt declaration, there was no response from beside her.
Mo Li turned and saw that Mo Wang had fallen asleep just like that, still holding her cup and leaning against the pillow.
Mo Li helped her set the cup aside, tucked her in properly, and then lay down beside her. Gently touching the tip of Mo Wang’s nose, she murmured to herself, “After all, you’ve tried so hard. I need to step up too.”
