Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 32
Mo Li understood what had happened almost instantly.
It must have been Mo Wang manipulating Lin Qianying’s artificial gland, causing her pheromone waste and stored pheromones to leak.
Though it was rather unkind, she couldn’t help but cover her mouth with her fist, trying hard not to laugh out loud, trembling with suppressed laughter.
Father Mo didn’t notice her subtle movements and scolded the security guard, “Then why are you still standing here? Go back and keep an eye on everyone. The people here are all reporters, don’t let them spread this around.”
The security guard nodded hastily and hurried out with quick steps.
Mo Li glanced up at the clock. It was about time. She lied to Father Mo without batting an eye, “Dad, I’ll go check on Lin Qianying.”
Seeing her so concerned, Father Mo’s expression softened considerably. “Go ahead.”
“Don’t bring up any embarrassing topics when you see her,” Mother Mo chimed in, having seemingly forgotten her earlier prejudice against Lin Qianying.
Mo Li nodded quickly and made her way to the main gate of the Mo residence.
The moment she stepped outside, an overwhelming stench mixed with an intense gardenia fragrance assaulted her senses.
Mo Li immediately covered her nose.
Looking around, a group of reporters who hadn’t been carried away yet lay on the ground, some vomiting uncontrollably, others lying weakly.
The source of the incident, Lin Qianying, was nowhere to be seen, clearly having been taken away by someone.
Even with the source of the odor gone, the lingering smell was still so pungent that one could only imagine how unbearable it must have been at the scene.
Suddenly, a hand gently rested on her shoulder. Mo Li turned to look.
Mo Wang had appeared beside her without her noticing and signaled with his eyes for her to remove her hand from her nose.
Mo Li complied, and then felt Mo Wang apply something to the area under her nose with his finger.
A cool sensation rushed to her nostrils. Mo Wang gestured with his eyes toward a car parked nearby, and the two of them slipped inside.
Without exchanging a word, Mo Wang started the car, stepped on the gas, and sped away from the foul-smelling old residence.
They drove all the way down the winding mountain road. The moment Mo Wang rolled down the window, both of them took a deep breath of fresh air simultaneously.
Mo Wang gasped and declared with certainty,
“Lin Qianying must have taken the easy way out and didn’t replace the waste fluid in time.”
Mo Li was half-amused, half-worried. “Aren’t you afraid she’ll hold a grudge and come after you?”
“Then she should know her limits and boundaries.” Mo Wang’s smile faded as he steered with one hand, making a turn. “This was just a warning, it didn’t cause any real harm. Next time, it might not be so mild.”
Mo Li averted her gaze, pretending to look at the scenery outside the window, but her heart stirred slightly.
Mo Wang’s words seemed to imply that Mo Li was his bottom line, not to be crossed.
The car stopped outside the police station courtyard. Mo Li got out. The police station in City A was a tidy four-story building with a clean and orderly courtyard.
At the entrance, someone was enthusiastically talking to an officer.
Upon closer look, it was none other than Luo Liming himself. He had already dyed his striking blond hair back to black, and his polite, composed demeanor was a far cry from the playboy he once was.
Hearing the car door close, Luo Liming turned to look. Recognizing Mo Li, he rushed over and extended his hand, eager to greet her with a handshake.
Mo Wang blocked Mo Li’s path, her brow slightly furrowed. “Didn’t we say you didn’t need to come? We’ll report everything truthfully.”
Luo Liming lowered his head, seemingly a bit embarrassed. “I dragged President Mo along on this trip, so I specifically came to express my gratitude.”
Mo Wang didn’t buy his excuse and spoke sternly, “Luo Liming, whether you trust us or not is your business. We’re just here to give statements, the facts will never change.”
The officer nearby also wore a smiling face, appearing amiable as he gently admonished, “See, Xiao Luo, you really should trust us. If you didn’t, why would you hand the case over to us in the first place?”
A shadow flickered in Luo Liming’s eyes but vanished instantly.
“Look, I’m just too anxious and didn’t phrase it well, causing a misunderstanding,” he said, scratching his head and laughing awkwardly. “How could I not trust the officers and you all?”
Mo Wang ignored him further. She took Mo Li’s hand and hurried past Luo Liming.
Mo Li’s mind raced as she pondered: Could Luo Liming be hiding some unknown secret, or was there something he couldn’t reveal? Would it affect Mo Wang?
She glanced over. Mo Wang’s expression remained calm, and she subtly squeezed Mo Li’s fingers in reassurance.
“Just tell them everything truthfully. I’ve already given my statement. They probably called you in to verify the details, don’t be nervous.”
Mo Li felt slightly relieved.
Inside the police station, she quickly filled out a few forms before an officer escorted her into a closed interrogation room.
The statement process went smoothly. After she finished recounting her side, the officer asked a few brief questions, mostly about her presence at the scene and some unmentioned details. They particularly confirmed the ownership of the voice recorder several times.
But when they asked whether Mo Li knew about the murder case from years ago, and questions related to Luo Liming’s true identity, Mo Li hesitated slightly. She finally understood why Luo Liming had been so anxious to intercept them outside.
He had a good relationship with Mrs. Li and must have known all about the shareholder and chef cases from back then. Not only would he face questioning about why he hadn’t come forward with evidence earlier, but he might also be charged with identity fraud, deception, and even enticement, potentially implicating Mo Wang, who had helped forge the DNA report.
Though these charges paled in comparison to Luo Licheng’s grave crimes, given Luo Liming’s deep concern for Mrs. Li’s case, he would never want to leave any loose ends.
Mo Li hesitated before answering, “I only learned about the murder case from Luo Licheng himself. I think Luo Licheng and Luo Liming would know more about those details.”
“As for his true identity,” Mo Li paused, then answered truthfully, “I only know he was a sponsored college student.”
The officer nodded without probing further.
Mo Li breathed a sigh of relief.
Since the questions didn’t delve too deeply into the case, Mo Li’s statement concluded quickly. Mo Wang was sitting on a metal bench by the entrance, her arm propping up her forehead as she dozed off.
Sensing someone sit beside her, she jolted awake. Seeing it was Mo Li, she smiled. “How did it go? No tricky questions, right?”
Mo Li nodded. “Should we go back and rest? The chairs here are too cold.”
“Wait a bit.” Mo Wang leaned lazily against her shoulder. “Luo Liming is still outside, sticking to us like a plaster.”
The two sat quietly for a while, leaning against each other, warmth continuously flowing from where their bodies touched.
At the same time, a faint, cool fragrance brushed past Mo Li’s nose.
“Your heat cycle is approaching.”
“How do you know?” Mo Wang didn’t even lift her head. “The strong suppressants I used before have made it irregular lately.”
“I told you, I can smell your pheromones.” Mo Li brushed aside her hair and, sure enough, the temporary mark on the back of Mo Wang’s neck had faded.
A flicker of genuine confusion passed through Mo Wang’s eyes, an expression rarely seen on her.
Mo Li didn’t offer further explanation, as she herself didn’t understand the reason behind it.
She stood up, pulling Mo Wang to her feet as well. “Let’s go, it’s time for lunch.”
Outside the police station, Luo Liming was indeed waiting for them. Seeing them emerge, he enthusiastically invited them to lunch, his words subtly hinting at his hope that they would testify in court.
After several polite refusals, the two grew weary of his persistence. It was only when Mo Wang secretly called herself, pretending there was an urgent matter, that they managed to escape.
Having lost their appetite, and seeing that Mo Wang was too exhausted to keep her eyes open, Mo Li drove her home.
Mo Li casually ordered delivery from a three-star restaurant they had visited before and, seizing the opportunity, followed Mo Wang upstairs.
The room was still impeccably clean, decorated in a minimalist Scandinavian style, devoid of any lived-in warmth.
But today felt slightly different.
As if hearing the sound of the door opening, a snow-white long-haired cat leaped down from the tall shoe cabinet, landing gracefully in front of them.
Its sapphire-blue eyes stared unblinkingly at Mo Li for a moment, as if confirming a signal.
Then, to their surprise, it raised its tail high, curling it into a small hook, and began circling Mo Li’s feet, its tail and base occasionally brushing against her calves.
Seeing this, Mo Wang was taken aback and smiled. “This is Tang Yuan. I usually leave her with Zuo An when I’m busy, but since I’m home these days, I brought her back.”
She crouched down and extended her hand.
Tang Yuan obediently meowed and trotted over to Mo Wang, rubbing her fluffy head against Mo Wang’s palm.
“She’s usually only attached to me. Even though Zuo An has taken care of her for so long, she only listens to him during mealtime. But she seems to like you.”
Mo Li smiled and reached out to pat Tang Yuan’s back.
Tang Yuan turned her head and gently licked her fingers.
Unfortunately, the pleasant moment didn’t last long.
After the two finished their meal, Mo Wang took a shower and returned to her room to rest. But before long, she pushed the door open again, yawning, tears of exhaustion glistening at the corners of her eyes.
“I’m so tired I can’t fall asleep.”
Her hair was still damp, and her skin seemed to glow with a pale radiance.
“Would you… stay with me?”
Faced with such a bold invitation, Mo Li reacted almost instantly.
She let her hair down and followed Mo Wang into the room.
The curtains were drawn, and in the dim light, her eyes seemed to gleam. “Then this time, I want the lights on.”
