Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 30
Lin Qianying raised an eyebrow. “What does who I like have to do with who I marry?”
She spoke with a smile, yet her eyes held no warmth. “Trading a failed marriage for a successful life, isn’t that a foolproof deal?”
Mo Li responded bluntly, “Then you might as well find someone equally unsuccessful. I won’t make this deal with you.”
She couldn’t understand why Lin Qianying, given her current status and position, would insist on this tainted engagement when she could easily achieve success in both marriage and career.
Lin Qianying smirked lightly. “Isn’t the lovelorn loser right in front of me?”
Just that afternoon, Mo Li had parted ways with Mo Wang, and Lin Qianying had already deduced the details like a hyena eyeing another’s prey.
As Lin Qianying slowly approached, Mo Li felt that her feigned smile and fabricated scent were even more irritating.
Lin Qianying declared arrogantly, “Whether or not we make this deal isn’t up to you. Even if you reveal that I’m a Beta, no one would believe you.”
Her confident expression piqued Mo Li’s curiosity.
“Oh? How so?”
“Because they rely on the version of me who is an Omega.”
Lin Qianying spoke with pride, her eyes brimming with the satisfaction of someone in power. She idly pulled out her phone and scrolled through it.
“I won’t make things difficult for you. After all, you don’t have a lover, and I need this engagement. Once we’ve both secured our footing, we can quietly break it off. Who could interfere then?”
Mo Li remained silent.
She thought of Mo Wang’s father, who acted like a ruler, treating the Mo family’s assets as scraps thrown to her. She also recalled Mo Wang’s secret maneuvers.
Shares… was it all just about money and power?
If she could personally give Mo Wang what she wanted, would their relationship become less complicated, free from all the scheming?
Mo Li smiled bitterly, as if acquiescing.
Lin Qianying stepped forward, straightened Mo Li’s collar, and gave it a perfunctory pat, a gesture that sealed their relationship.
Outside the door, Mo Li’s mother called out cheerfully for them to come eat. She was undoubtedly the most pleased about this marriage alliance. Mo Li suspected her mother’s opposition to her interactions with Mo Wang stemmed from guilt and fear.
But looking back, Mo Wang, as a child, had been beyond reproach in both obedience and capability. Why had she incurred such displeasure?
Mo Li sadly realized that her mind was still filled with thoughts of Mo Wang.
Lin Qianying linked arms with her as they descended the stairs. Lin Qianying’s mother, Madam Lin, had also arrived. A beauty to the bone, Madam Lin still possessed delicate cheekbones and an elegant, noble face. Her tall figure was draped in a form-fitting qipao.
She gave Mo Li a critical glance, but when her eyes fell on Lin Qianying, her expression shifted to one of disgust and disdain, tinged with complexity.
“Since you’re here, let’s eat,” she commanded coldly, acting as if she were the lady of the Mo household, and turned toward the dining table.
Mo Wang’s father, however, looked at Madam Lin with admiration and pulled out the chair beside him for her. Mo Li’s mother was left standing awkwardly and had to find her own seat.
The meal was tasteless.
Mr. Mo answered Lin Qianying’s questions about business while occasionally making small talk with Mrs. Lin. Mo Li kept her head down, devouring her food as if it were her last meal. Unable to endure Mr. Mo’s pestering, Mrs. Lin soon grabbed her bag and left.
Lin Qianying didn’t follow her out. Instead, she calmly dropped the conversation and leisurely continued her meal.
Mrs. Mo, now feeling more at ease, began enthusiastically listing Mo Li’s virtues. Lin Qianying’s half-hearted responses only fueled her excitement.
By the time Lin Qianying finished her meal at a relaxed pace, Mrs. Mo was still going strong.
It wasn’t until dusk began to fall that Lin Qianying put on a fragile act, fluttering her eyelashes while hiding her true intentions.
“It’s so dark now… Mother must have already driven the car home. I’m too scared to walk back alone…”
Without hesitation, Mo Li picked up the cue and headed for the door: “I’ll take you home.”
That way, she could also escape the stifling atmosphere at the Mo residence.
“Sit down!” Mr. Mo commanded.
Mo Li ignored him and kept walking.
But Lin Qianying didn’t follow. Instead, she trembled affectedly and said in an artificially sweet voice, “It’s so late… I’d hate for you to drive. Why don’t we just… tonight…”
“Why don’t you stay here tonight? We have several guest rooms. If you youngsters want to share one, the rooms are spacious enough.”
Mrs. Mo was practically beaming. She called a servant to prepare the largest guest room.
With her escape route cut off and no intention of letting others control her, Mo Li grabbed Lin Qianying’s wrist firmly, dragged her upstairs all the way into the guest room, and tossed her inside as if handling a hot potato.
She stood still, her patience worn thin.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning. Are you really in such a hurry? Waiting until tomorrow morning to hire paparazzi for some staged intimate photos? No longer concerned about maintaining your pure Omega image?”
Lin Qianying rubbed her wrist and feigned a pout. “You’re so rough.”
“Since it’s all an act anyway, what difference does it make if it’s a little sooner or later? But your mother seems genuinely confused, she actually expects us to sleep together.”
She and Mr. and Mrs. Mo had arranged everything without a word, as if the three of them were one happy family.
Mo Li could hardly help but admire their ruthless efficiency. Seeing no point in lingering, she walked to the door, then turned back to shoot Lin Qianying a warning look.
“Remember this: I haven’t agreed to this arrangement. I’m only going along for now due to the circumstances. If I want out, I can walk away anytime.”
“As long as it doesn’t affect the Lin family’s business, do whatever you like,” Lin Qianying replied calmly. “But you should also know one thing: I always repay every slight. None of my previous fiancés who broke off the engagement ended up well.”
“Take Luo Liming, for example, someone you know. My retaliation was his downfall. You can look forward to seeing how it plays out.”
With that, she gestured mysteriously for Mo Li to leave.
Knowing all too well the deeply ingrained, pathological obsession in Lin Qianying’s nature, Mo Li saw no point in arguing further. She closed the door and returned to her own room.
The room she hadn’t visited in so long had long been converted into another guest room. Fortunately, with the servants maintaining it, the space was tidy and austere, hardly different from a standard hotel business suite.
Compared to this home where appearances were kept up but hearts were divided, Mo Li still found it more comfortable to stay at a hotel.
She let out a long sigh, then took off her clothes and stepped barefoot into the bathroom. As the hot water drenched her hair, the weariness in her body and mind began to fade slightly.
When it came to their obsession with power and wealth, Mo Wang and Lin Qianying were strikingly similar, both were sharp, intelligent, and relentless.
Lin Qianying, however, was clearly deeply consumed by it, while Mo Wang…
Mo Li couldn’t understand their pursuit. For her, the Mo family’s fortune was merely her job and responsibility. Having once endured hunger and cold in the slums, the stark contrast of now managing billions in assets left her feeling overwhelmed.
Though her current affluent life was undoubtedly comfortable, the idea of losing it all, finding a job just to make ends meet in this modern city, and living as an ordinary Alpha didn’t seem like such a bad alternative.
After all, life would still revolve around work, eating, and sleeping.
The difference now was that, among the things she had to consider, Mo Wang had become a part of it.
Warm water from the showerhead trickled down her hair. Naked, Mo Li walked to the sink and picked up her phone. A mist quickly formed on the waterproof screen.
Struggling to unlock it with her fingerprint, her finger hovered over the chat interface, unmoving.
Their last conversation was still stuck on the day they encountered Luo Liming, with Mo Wang’s single-word message: “Get lost.” Mo Li couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions.
Whether their relationship was genuine or not, the two of them had gone from being at odds to being able to speak softly to one another.
Lin Qianying’s final words earlier were clearly no joke. Mo Li was hesitating over whether to tell Mo Wang when a message suddenly popped up on the screen.
[Mo Wang: Are you asleep?]
[Mo Wang: [Clingy puppy emoji]]
Caught off guard, Mo Li tapped the input box, unsure of what to say.
But as if sensing her hesitation, the other side sent message after message.
[Mo Wang: How are things? Has anyone else contacted you?]
[Mo Li: No, I’m at the old family home now. Both Mom and Dad are here.]
There was a brief silence on the other end. Mo Li stared intently at the screen, her wet hair gradually cooling, water droplets evaporating from her skin and taking her body heat with them.
Given Mo Wang’s well-informed nature, she had probably known about the marriage alliance the moment the Lin family set foot in the old house.
A short voice message popped up. Mo Li quickly opened it. In the quiet room, Mo Wang’s tired, slightly hoarse voice came through, it seemed she hadn’t had a chance to rest during these busy days.
“I know. Get some good sleep and don’t overthink it.”
A response that brushed things off lightly, a polite reassurance, as if nothing had been said at all.
Mo Li’s body relaxed abruptly, but her eyes couldn’t hide her disappointment.
Just as she was about to put down her phone and return to her shower, a video call came through from an unfamiliar number.
But this time, Mo Li didn’t hesitate. She answered.
