Returning to High School to Save My Wife - Chapter 10
The moment she saw the words on the page, Yue Suxin’s face turned deathly pale, her eyes widening in disbelief.
Wh-what was going on?
Wasn’t this supposed to be the love letter Cheng Zhuocheng had written to Jiang Yuan?
Just yesterday after school, they had deliberately taken it from Jiang Yuan’s desk, even opened it to confirm its contents, and placed it on the teacher’s podium this morning. Every step had been carried out under their watch, how could it have suddenly turned into her letter of self-criticism?
At that moment, Liang Qi’s unhurried voice drifted up from below the podium: “Yue, is there a character you don’t recognize? Would you like me to read it for you?”
“You!” Yue Suxin immediately understood this had to be Liang Qi’s doing! She couldn’t fathom why Liang Qi was going to such lengths to help Jiang Yuan. They hadn’t even known each other last semester. Someone like Liang Qi, from such a well-off family, should have been on her side. Why was she mingling with someone like Jiang Yuan instead?
Because of this swapped letter, Yue Suxin found herself trapped in an impossible situation. Her body trembled slightly, her fingers clutching the letter involuntarily, the tips turning nearly white from the force of her grip.
Liang Qi clearly knew the contents of the letter that was why she was being so insistent.
If Yue Suxin didn’t read it as originally intended, Liang Qi would undoubtedly call her out. Worse, He Wei had already seen the real contents of the letter. If she tried to make excuses now, it would be tantamount to admitting her own scheming to him.
But if she read it as it was she’d be slapping her own face!
What was she supposed to do now?
She absolutely couldn’t let He Wei find out she had deliberately taken Jiang Yuan’s love letter. After weighing her options, she had no choice but to settle for a compromise.
“Um, I wanted to apologize to Jiang Yuan today. I accidentally ruined her notebook yesterday, and I hope she won’t be too angry with me.”
The students below exchanged puzzled glances.
“Huh? That’s it?”
“I thought it was a love letter. What, a letdown?”
“Xin-jie, what are you doing?”
“It’s just a notebook, no big deal. Why make it sound like a confession?”
“Seriously. Making a mountain out of a molehill.”
“Yue Suxin is so dramatic.”
“Boring as hell!”
At the side, He Wei frowned and strode up to the podium, his voice icy. “Yue Suxin, come to my office after class.”
Yue Suxin bit her lower lip. Even if she was unwilling, she had no choice but to comply. “Understood… Teacher.”
He Wei took the letter and addressed the class. “Now that this matter is settled, everyone should focus on their studies. That’s what really matters.”
His tone was light, but those with sharp ears could tell he was subtly criticizing Yue Suxin for being overly scheming and diverting her attention from academics.
Yue Suxin caught the look He Wei gave her, and her cheeks flushed faintly.
Liang Qi sat below the podium, grinning as she enjoyed Yue Suxin’s humiliation, completely oblivious to Jiang Yuan’s gaze beside her.
From the moment Liang Qi had stopped her from going up to clarify things, Jiang Yuan had sensed Liang Qi’s unusual anticipation for this situation. At first, she had thought Liang Qi was just egging things on for fun. But now, seeing Yue Suxin’s reaction, she didn’t even need to check the letter to know it had been swapped.
But how had Liang Qi known about this?
Could it be that Liang Qi was the one who had switched the letters for her?
But why would she help her?
Jiang Yuan’s mind was filled with countless thoughts when she suddenly heard He Wei’s voice from the podium.
“Today, I have an announcement to make. Our class still hasn’t selected a class monitor or academic committee member, so I hope interested students will step forward.”
“Teacher, can anyone participate?” Tang Yiman raised her hand from the back row.
“Yes,” He Wei nodded.
Her gaze swept across the classroom. “If anyone wants to nominate themselves, now is the time to speak up.”
Just as Jiang Yuan was about to open her mouth, Hang Jiao’s voice rang out from the back. “Teacher, I nominate Yue Suxin for class monitor!”
“I also nominate Yue Suxin!”
“Sister Xin is outgoing, has excellent grades, and strong leadership skills, she’s perfect for the role!”
Jiang Yuan’s lips parted slightly, but in the end, she swallowed the words she had wanted to say.
Yue Suxin had extensive connections in the class, came from a well-connected family, was beautiful, and had many supporters, she was highly influential. In comparison, although Jiang Yuan’s academic performance was superior, in this aspect.
Just then, Liang Qi beside her raised a hand. “Teacher, I’d like to nominate Jiang Yuan as class monitor!”
