- Chapter 6 - Offering the Day’s First Favor to the "Mother of the House"
By the time Yan Mingyue strolled back with his massive fortune, the rest of the dorm was awake. The room was a cacophony of noise as everyone scrambled for the bathroom sink.
Gu Yuebai appeared to have been up for a while. He was standing on the balcony, phone in hand, talking to someone. Hearing the door open, he glanced back briefly. Seeing Yan Mingyue grinning like a fool at him, he immediately turned away.
“Be good. I will come to see you next time. That is all, hanging up now.” Gu Yuebai’s tone was unusually gentle, a rare sight that would have made even Jin Xi’s eyes pop out in disbelief.
Ignored, Yan Mingyue tucked his wide grin away. He reached into his backpack and felt the Jianbing Guozi that had cost him a small fortune of one hundred yuan. Confirming it was still warm, he crept up behind Gu Yuebai like a sneaky puppy, his voice floating out eerily.
“Gu Yuebai.”
At the sound, Gu Yuebai switched off his phone. He turned to find Yan Mingyue struggling to pull something out of his backpack.
“Is something the matter?” He raised an eyebrow, leaning against the balcony railing. His eyes, which looked affectionate even when staring at a dog, darted toward Yan Mingyue’s bag.
What is he pulling out? A weapon? It looks suspiciously like a brick.
Yan Mingyue gave a mysterious smile and pulled out a massive Jianbing. From the look of it, he had crammed every possible ingredient inside, making it look a bit mangled. Honestly, it looked rather unappetizing.
He remembered it looking delicious before he put it in the bag. How had it turned into this lump? Thinking about the delicacies Gu Yuebai usually ate and then looking at this crepe blob, Yan Mingyue suddenly felt it was a bit too embarrassing to present.
Gu Yuebai’s look of disgust was so obvious that Yan Mingyue, who was previously confident that no one could refuse a Jumbo Jianbing, lost his nerve.
But who was he? He was Yan Mingyue!
He held the crepe blob out like a precious treasure. His fingers gripped the wrapping paper tightly out of awkwardness.
“Um, Gu Yuebai, even though you said you did not need compensation, I would feel guilty if I did nothing. I would not be able to eat or sleep, and I might eventually die of depression. Besides, when someone does something wrong, they should apologize with a gift!”
Gu Yuebai looked at the unappealing lump in Yan Mingyue’s hand and took a subtle half step back. He seriously suspected that the reason Lu Beichen liked Yan Mingyue was because they shared the same mental illness.
Poor silly child.
Unfortunately, he did not trust Yan Mingyue. He would not eat a single bite!
Gu Yuebai curled his lips. Just as Yan Mingyue thought he was about to accept, a cold sentence came out of his mouth. “No thank you. I never eat these things. You should keep it for yourself.”
In truth, he was just being stubborn. He simply did not want to eat anything given by Yan Mingyue.
Yan Mingyue asked, “Are you really not going to eat it?”
“Not eat what?” Lu Renjia, holding a cup in one hand and a toothbrush in the other, poked his head out of the bathroom. He immediately spotted the crepe blob in Yan Mingyue’s hand. “Mingyue, what is that lump? It looks like a Jianbing! It actually looks delicious!”
Good brother! You have great taste!
Yan Mingyue gave Lu Renjia a look of mutual understanding. He reached into his bag and pulled out a much more normal looking Jianbing, stuffing it into Lu Renjia’s hand. “Good brother, you really understand my taste.”
There were two identical crepes in that bag: one for Lu Renjia and one clearly intended for Jin Xi.
Lu Renjia’s throat moved. He actually swallowed his toothpaste and reached out for the crepe. He looked down at it and then back at Yan Mingyue. “Mingyue, have you been diagnosed with a terminal illness?”
Yan Mingyue was speechless.
He pressed his hand against Lu Renjia’s face and shoved him back into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. “Just eat your crepe! I am perfectly fine! At least I am not dying today.”
He turned back to Gu Yuebai. “Are you really not going to eat it?”
If Gu Yuebai had accepted it without hesitation, Yan Mingyue might have felt a bit stingy. But if Gu Yuebai refused, Yan Mingyue would lose sleep over the guilt and might even wake up in the middle of the night to slap himself.
So Yan Mingyue leaned against Gu Yuebai like they were best friends. He carefully unwrapped the paper and looked at Gu Yuebai with his beautiful eyes. “But Gu Yuebai, you have a stomach condition. If you do not eat breakfast, it will flare up!”
His memory was excellent. The original novel mentioned that Gu Yuebai had a fairly severe stomach issue. It was said that Lu Beichen had specifically learned to cook well because of it.
As expected of a future Overbearing CEO’s partner; even his ailments were so classic!
The smile on Gu Yuebai’s face grew brighter, but it was not a sign of a good mood. Only a few close family members and friends knew about his stomach condition. He had never told anyone else. How did Yan Mingyue know? He had clearly gone to great lengths to investigate.
Combined with Yan Mingyue’s past behavior, Gu Yuebai suddenly had an epiphany. I see. He really has put in a lot of effort!
For a moment, Yan Mingyue felt Gu Yuebai was looking at him strangely, but when he looked closer, it seemed like just a hallucination.
Gu Yuebai shook his head helplessly. “You really do not need to do this. No matter how much you do, it is all in vain.”
Yan Mingyue lowered his head and carefully pulled the crepe out of the wrapping. He moved gently, as if handling a treasure. He held the unwrapped portion to Gu Yuebai’s lips and said coaxingly, “Gu Yuebai, just take a bite. It is really good!”
Gu Yuebai opened his mouth to refuse again, but unexpectedly, a massive chunk of Jianbing was stuffed inside. The piece was so large he could not even swallow. His eyes rolled back as he choked, nearly passing away right there.
Yan Mingyue patted Gu Yuebai’s chest lightly, as if soothing a cat. He smiled at Gu Yuebai, a silly goofy smile.
He looked like a Husky.
If Gu Yuebai could speak right now, he would have cursed Yan Mingyue out, even though he did not really know any curse words.
Fortunately, Yan Mingyue was not insane enough to shove the entire thing in. Otherwise, instead of nearly passing away, Gu Yuebai would have died on the spot and everyone would be attending his funeral.
“Wait, man, your hobbies are pretty specific. Do we really have to eat in the bathroom?” Jin Xi, holding his own Jianbing, leaned against the wall and gestured toward Lu Renjia. Small head, big confusion.
Lu Renjia, crouching by the door, looked up at Jin Xi. “It looks like Mingyue is feeding your brother out there!”
“What! You scoundrel, let go of my brother! If you have the guts, come at me!”
Hearing this, Jin Xi let out a roar and threw the door open, rushing out.
