- Chapter 14 - Awaken, Chuunibyou Soul! Endure the Wrath of the King!
In the intervals of their conversation, the faint sound of arguing drifted over from the old campus. The closer they got to the old teaching building, the clearer the shouting became, interspersed with a girl’s low sobbing.
Yan Mingyue and Jin Xi exchanged a look. Without wasting a second, they sprinted toward the source of the noise.
The Anime Club activity room was on the first floor of the old teaching building. It used to be a massive lecture hall. Once they rounded the corner, they could see the club’s large windows.
Just past the tree at the corner, they saw a crowd gathered at the entrance of the activity room. A group of men and women were aggressively blocking several club members inside. The leader was a guy with green hair. He dressed with some taste, but his actions were incredibly rude.
The opposing side had numbers on their side, while his own team consisted of frail scholars. It was not a good time to be reckless.
“Holy crap, what is going on? Why are you crouching down?”
No matter how slow Jin Xi was, he could sense that the situation ahead was not good. Influenced by Yan Mingyue’s cautious movements, he swallowed nervously and unconsciously lowered his voice.
Yan Mingyue did not answer. Instead, he picked up a wooden stick from beneath a nearby tree, tested its weight, and handed it to Jin Xi. Then, under Jin Xi’s shocked gaze, he pulled a thick wooden club out from the bushes. After weighing it, he finally stood up.
The green-haired guy kicked the glass door of the activity room. A nearly finished cigarette was pinched between his fingers, and the disdain on his face was palpable. He scanned the club members and said, “I told you before to move out of this room within a day. If you do not, I will burn all this junk! Are you waiting for us to help you light the fire?”
As he spoke, he flicked the cigarette butt onto the ground and continued, “What is the matter? Are you pinning your hopes on your president whose family is going bankrupt? Or that worthless vice president who sells his body?”
Although the club members generally disliked Yan Mingyue, they understood that they were all in the same boat.
“This is our activity room. If you keep this up, I am going to tell the teachers!” A young girl in a cosplay outfit squeezed her eyes shut in fear, yet she still stood resolutely at the front.
The green-haired guy seemed accustomed to looking down on others and was easily provoked. He raised his fist, preparing to swing at the girl.
In that split second, Yan Mingyue, who had already snuck to the back of the crowd, delivered a wild boar charge. He slammed into the unsuspecting green-haired guy and knocked him over. Feeling a bit dizzy from the impact, Yan Mingyue shook his head, gripped his wooden club in one hand, and used the other to shield the girl.
Realizing the punch had not landed, the girl snapped her eyes open. Seeing the familiar figure standing in front of her, she spoke with utter disbelief, “Yan Mingyue?”
Yan Mingyue did not look back. His usually youthful voice sounded exceptionally reliable at that moment. He comforted her softly, “Do not be afraid. As long as I am here, I will not let anyone hurt you.”
“Screw you! Who do you think you are!” The green-haired guy looked up and saw the culprit. His rage flared. With the help of his companions, he stood up and glared at Yan Mingyue. “Yan Mingyue! I was not looking for trouble with you, but you delivered yourself to my door. Fine, I will teach you a lesson today!”
The green-haired guy was massive, nearly two meters tall. Standing in front of the 180cm Yan Mingyue, his presence was incredibly oppressive.
“Run!”
The moment the word left his mouth, the green-haired guy swung a fist the size of a sandbag at Yan Mingyue’s eye. The punch carried full force; if it landed, it would surely cause a serious injury.
Jin Xi, who originally did not want to cause trouble, lost his cool when a punch landed on his own back. He let out a roar, looking like a hero forced into a corner. He swung his fists and yelled, “I did not want to cause trouble! You forced me! Ahhhh!”
The other club members grabbed various props from the activity room and joined the fray against the green-haired guy’s lackeys. The scene turned into total chaos.
Hearing Jin Xi’s roar, Yan Mingyue felt emboldened. Since he had Gu Yuebai’s loyal follower to back him up if things went south, he decided to fight with everything he had.
“Awaken, Chuunibyou Soul! Endure the Wrath of the King!”
Yan Mingyue’s voice was so loud that everyone present heard him clearly.
If they were not in the middle of a fight, Jin Xi would have covered his face in shame. He did not want to admit he knew this eccentric guy!
The green-haired guy was stunned by the deafening, dramatic line. Yan Mingyue seized the opening and kicked him hard in the chest.
Yan Mingyue rested the wooden club on his shoulder and whistled. “The winner has been decided!”
That kick had also been delivered with maximum strength, sending the green-haired guy stumbling back several steps. Yan Mingyue casually wiped the nosebleed flowing down his face and hid his trembling hand behind his back. He feigned an air of calm and indifference. “You cannot beat us. You should leave now.”
The green-haired guy spat out some blood and stared at Yan Mingyue. “Do you even know who my father is?”
Yan Mingyue’s brain stalled for a second, and he instinctively asked, “Why? Did your mother not tell you?”
The green-haired guy was speechless.
After snarling a final threat, the green-haired guy and his group fled in a panic, leaving behind a complete mess.
