- Chapter 4 - Venting Anger
“Silly child, if you’re homesick, just come back. Our home will always be yours,” adoptive mother Du Qing said with a smile.
Adoptive father Yun Changhong immediately chimed in, “That’s right! Do you want to eat Dad’s braised fish and spicy dry pot? I’ll go buy the ingredients right now.”
“Yeah, sis, where are you? We’ll come pick you up right away,” younger sister Yun Ruoxia quickly added.
Yun Mojiu felt warmth in her heart.
She pressed her lips together. “I still have some things to take care of now. I’ll come back in the evening.”
“Are you really okay?” Du Qing asked again, still uneasy.
“Yeah, I’m fine. But there’s something I need to tell you,” Yun Mojiu said, glancing out the window. “Xie Jingling and I are getting a divorce.”
After hanging up, the three standing in front of the Xie family villa exchanged glances.
“Did I hear that right? Did Mojiu just say she’s divorcing Xie Jingling?”
Du Qing blinked, hardly able to believe it.
Yun Changhong shook his head. “You heard right. I heard it too.”
“Finally! My sister has come to her senses! That Xie Jingling was never good enough for her, she deserves so much better!” Yun Ruoxia exclaimed excitedly.
She had long disliked Xie Jingling.
Her sister adored him, but what about him? He was always lukewarm toward her, infuriating to watch.
“But we all know how much Mojiu loved Xie Jingling. Do you think something happened to make her suddenly want a divorce? That maid just said Mojiu slit her wrist and was taken to the hospital…”
Du Qing’s brows furrowed deeply, her eyes filled with worry.
They had come today as a family to visit their eldest daughter, but as soon as they arrived, the maid told them Mojiu had been hospitalized after a suicide attempt by slitting her wrist.
The news terrified them.
Fortunately, Mojiu’s voice didn’t sound weak, she even seemed quite spirited, so they felt slightly reassured.
But now she was talking about divorce!
How much she loved Xie Jingling, others might not know, but Du Qing certainly did.
Just as she was lost in thought, the roar of a car engine sounded.
A car pulled up in front of the three of them.
They looked over.
When they saw Xie Jingling carefully helping Sun Xiaoxuan out of the car, with Sun Xiaoxuan holding her stomach, Du Qing and the others frowned deeply.
Yun Ruoxia immediately flew into a rage.
“Oh, so this is why my sister suddenly slit her wrist and decided to divorce you! You’ve been seduced by this vixen! Do you even realize how good my sister was to you, you scumbag? How could you betray her like this?! Shameless!”
“Yun Ruoxia, if you’re sick, go get treated! What are you screaming at my house for?!”
Xie Tongtong, who had been having a terrible day and was already seething with anger, planted her hands on her hips and glared at Yun Ruoxia with disdain.
The two were classmates, but their personalities clashed, they bickered every time they met.
Just as Yun Ruoxia disliked Xie Jingling, Xie Tongtong disliked Yun Mojiu.
“Pfft, as if I’d ever want to come to this filthy place. Don’t worry, even if you begged me to come in the future, I wouldn’t bother. The stench here is disgusting.”
Yun Ruoxia waved her hand in front of her nose, her face full of disdain.
“Mom, Dad, let’s get out of here.”
She tried to pull Du Qing away.
But… she couldn’t move her.
Confused, she turned back and saw her father, his face dark, walking up to Xie Jingling and raising his hand,
SLAP!
“Xie Jingling, I entrusted my precious daughter to you, and this is how you treat her! Let me tell you, although the Yun family may not compare to the Xie family, from now on, we will be sworn enemies!”
Yun Changhong’s eyes blazed with fury, his shoulders trembling slightly from rage.
“Yun Changhong! How dare you hit my son? I’ll fight you!”
Seeing her son struck, Zhao Mei lunged forward, claws bared.
“Fight my ass!”
The usually gentle and composed Du Qing stepped forward, grabbing Zhao Mei’s raised arm with a firm grip, her eyes bloodshot with anger as she glared at her.
“Doesn’t your son deserve to be hit? My daughter gave him her whole heart, and what did he do? Cheated on her, nearly driving her to death! A slap is too light for him!”
“This… matters of the heart can’t be explained so simply.”
Zhao Mei, knowing she was in the wrong, instantly lost her bluster.
Du Qing flung her hand away with a cold sneer. “Exactly. So, here’s wishing you a bitch paired with a dog, eternal happiness. Stay locked together and stop ruining other people’s lives! Let’s go!”
With that, the three turned and strode toward their car.
“Think you can just walk away after hitting someone? Not so easy!”
Xie Tongtong, unwilling to let it go, chased after them a few steps but was stopped by Xie Jingling’s sharp call.
“Enough! Let them go!”
“But-”
“No buts. That slap settles the score. From now on, we owe each other nothing.”
Seeing the stormy look on Xie Jingling’s face, Xie Tongtong swallowed her words and fell silent.
“Jingling, are you okay? Does it hurt?”
Sun Xiaoxuan tenderly touched Xie Jingling’s reddened cheek, her face full of concern.
Xie Jingling took her hand. “It doesn’t hurt. Don’t worry. How’s your stomach feeling now?”
“Better.”
Sun Xiaoxuan smiled.
Suddenly, a phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and immediately hung up.
“Why didn’t you answer?” Xie Jingling asked.
Sun Xiaoxuan’s eyes flickered evasively. “It’s… just a spam call.”
Xie Jingling didn’t press further.
“Mom, I never knew you could swear like that!”
In the car, Yun Ruoxia stared at Du Qing, seeing her in a new light.
Her mother was a university professor, always refined and well-mannered, never one to curse.
Yet just now, the words had slipped out so effortlessly.
It was utterly unexpected.
Du Qing huffed. “I was just too angry.”
Yun Ruoxia nodded.
Indeed.
The Xie family had truly crossed the line.
She then grinned and gave Yun Changhong, who was driving, a thumbs-up.
“Dad, you were so badass just now!”
“Damn right!”
Yun Changhong lifted his chin proudly.
“Let’s go. Your sister’s coming home tonight. We’ll buy her favorite dishes and make her a feast.”
“Okay!”
…
After paying the fare, Yun Mojiu got out of the car.
This was the antique street she had found online earlier.
Here, one could find not only all kinds of antiques and calligraphy but also yellow paper and cinnabar for purchase.
She walked forward.
Suddenly, a handsome young man with red hair and earrings dashed out of an alley, brushed past her, and ducked into another alley, hiding behind a phone booth.
Close behind, a fashionable woman in high heels ran out from the same alley the boy had emerged from.
“Miss, did you see a red-haired, really good-looking guy pass by here?”
The woman panted, hands on her hips as she caught her breath.
From her angle, she couldn’t see the boy, but from Yun Mojiu’s position, the boy was clearly visible.
The boy quickly waved his hands at her, making a ‘no’ gesture.
Looking at his face, Yun Mojiu frowned slightly.
This guy…
“Got you! Shen Fan, you’re actually here!”
The girl, however, happened to follow her gaze and spotted the boy. She immediately shouted and chased after him.
“Again?!”
The boy let out a miserable cry and took off running.
Before fleeing, he shot Yun Mojiu a resentful look.
Yun Mojiu: “…”
