- Reincarnated as a Sickly Princess, She was Kidnapped by the Evil Dragon Lady
- Chapter 7 - Confidential Meeting
Another period of time passed, and Illycia had officially been in this world for a month.
During that month, Illycia’s emotional journey had been complex. She had initially been thrilled by the new world and surprised by her newfound identity, but now she felt trapped and frustrated by being confined to her room all day.
However, Xiaobai often brought her news and information, adding some color to her otherwise monotonous life.
“Xiaobai, are you saying the Dragon Clan has been appearing more frequently lately?”
“Well, I’ve heard many people outside say they have seen the Dragons—traveling merchants, wandering bards, almost everyone seems to have encountered one. This has caught Your Highness’s attention.”
After all, the Dragons’ power was not to be underestimated. If the Dragon Clan ever grew dissatisfied and invaded human territory with malicious intent, the Human Race would struggle to defend itself.
At the very least, the immediate priority was to alert the Human Race’s elite combat forces. Otherwise, if an emergency arose, they might not even have time to react.
“Oh, oh, oh…” Illycia responded, her mind seemingly elsewhere.
“Oh, right! Your Highness also mentioned he’ll be meeting with all the Archmages and Saint-rank Knights in the kingdom within the next few days.”
Xiaobai’s words seemed to snap Illycia out of her reverie. The previously distracted princess suddenly perked up.
“Really? Can I go watch?!” Illycia exclaimed, her face lighting up with excitement.
“Well… Princess… These kinds of meetings are usually classified as top secret. No one is allowed in except for key personnel…”
“Oh… Okay…” Illycia said, her enthusiasm immediately deflating.
It made sense, though. Xiaobai had probably only learned about such a high-level meeting through her own secret channels, just to cheer Illycia up. Most people wouldn’t even know it was happening.
So, of course, no one else would be allowed to attend.
“Alright, Princess. The Head Maid is calling us to a meeting today. I’ll be back tonight.”
“Mm-hmm, take care, Xiaobai!”
With those words, Xiaobai left Illycia’s room under her watchful gaze.
Once again, Illycia found herself alone in her room.
She stared at the unchanging furniture and ceiling, and with a sigh of resignation, she went to the window. Leaning against the sill, she gazed silently out at the world beyond.
Watching the azure sky and the occasional large birds soaring overhead, Illycia felt a surge of curiosity about everything outside.
After watching for a long time, she seemed unable to suppress her inner restlessness any longer. She stomped her foot, her heart brimming with newfound courage.
“Alright! Today, I’m going to venture even further!”
With that declaration, Illycia slipped on her shoes and opened the door.
She paused at the threshold, scanning the corridor to ensure no one was around before stepping out.
As Xiaobai had predicted, the Head Maid had summoned all the maids to a meeting. The Imperial Palace was practically deserted, with only Illycia wandering about like a headless fly.
Precisely because there were so few people around today, Illycia didn’t need to worry about other maids catching her and dragging her back home. As a result, she moved much faster and more easily than before, not tiring out so quickly that she could barely walk.
“Huh? Where am I?”
As Illycia wandered, she realized she had stumbled into a completely unfamiliar part of the palace.
She had been trying to find her way out, but the palace seemed impossibly vast, spanning multiple levels.
When she spotted a staircase leading further down, Illycia hesitated for a moment before descending.
After all, she had just reasoned that her room was likely on the fourth floor. Having already gone down two levels, another flight might just lead her to the exit.
With that thought, she carefully stepped down the stairs.
However, when Illycia reached a massive, tightly sealed door, she knew she had taken another wrong turn.
After all, who designs their front door to be so ominous and hidden?
Thinking this, Illycia turned to leave.
But just as Illycia turned to leave, a faint glimmer caught her eye. The massive door before her seemed to be emitting a soft, ethereal glow.
This immediately piqued her curiosity.
As she approached within half a meter of the door, the light suddenly intensified, and a pattern resembling a magical array materialized across its surface. At the center of the array was a large “X,” as if warning outsiders to keep out.
Illycia’s eyes widened with excitement. This was the first time she had ever seen such a magical array since arriving in this world.
Driven by curiosity, she cautiously approached the array and reached out to touch it.
The moment her hand made contact, the array erupted in a blinding flash of light.
Then, to her utter astonishment, the massive array simply… shattered.
Yes, it shattered completely, right before her eyes.
Illycia initially assumed the sudden display of power was triggered by her touch and hastily withdrew her hand.
But as soon as Illycia removed her hand, the magic circle shattered instantly.
The sight left Illycia stunned.
“Who’s there?!”
Before Illycia could react, a furious roar erupted from inside the room.
Hearing the roar, Illycia instinctively tried to retreat. But just as she took a step back, the door exploded inward.
Amidst the thunderous crash, Illycia glimpsed the room’s interior.
The spacious chamber centered around a massive round table, its perimeter crowded with seated figures. So many people were packed inside that many stood around the edges.
But this scene lasted only an instant. Before Illycia could fully register it, a towering figure blocked her view.
Before she could discern the newcomer’s features, a wave of intense danger washed over her. Then, a colossal sword came crashing down from above.
Illycia watched the massive sword, wider than her entire body, descend, her heart pounding wildly.
It’s over…
That was the only thought racing through her mind.
Just as she braced for death, the giant blade slammed down beside her, then plunged straight into the ground, cleaving a deep gash in the concrete.
The sheer force of the impact sent tremors through the ground, even reaching Illycia standing nearby. It was clear that if the sword had struck her directly, she would have been cleaved in two.
Snapping out of her daze, Illycia looked up at the figure who had wielded the sword that nearly killed her.
As she raised her head, the figure’s full form finally came into view.
The figure stood at least 1.9 meters tall, radiating immense strength. They were clad in gleaming silver full plate armor, their face hidden behind a heavy helmet.
It was immediately clear that this figure was a heavily armored warrior.
“So, who is it?”
A voice came from behind the knight, and a young man in a black cloak appeared beside him, turning his gaze to Illycia.
Illycia, still shaken by the earlier events, felt an overwhelming fear that made her legs tremble. She collapsed to the ground.
The young man stared at Illycia, momentarily stunned by her appearance. After a long pause, he turned to look inside the house.
“Your Highness, it’s just a little girl.”
His calm voice echoed through the room, causing a stir inside as whispers seemed to break out.
Rodas, who was inside the house, felt his heart pound when he heard it was a little girl at the door.
