- Chapter 16 - A Journey on Dragonback!!
At least wait until I’m awake before deciding!
“Wait a moment,” Illycia said, pulling the blanket higher to cover most of her face, leaving only half of it visible as she looked at Aria. “Let me get ready first…”
“Mm,” Aria replied curtly, turning and leaving the room.
In the blink of an eye, Illycia and Aria were standing outside the palace gates.
“Um… how… how are we going to set off now?” Illycia asked awkwardly, standing beside Aria. They had been standing at the castle gate for nearly ten minutes.
During that time, Illycia had wanted to ask Aria, but seeing Aria’s dark expression and the way she seemed to be wrestling with something, she didn’t dare speak.
It was only after ten minutes, when Illycia’s frail body began to ache from standing, that she finally spoke up to remind Aria.
Illycia feared that if they continued to stand there, she would faint from the sun.
After Illycia’s remark, Aria couldn’t help but glance at her companion, noticing that Illycia seemed to be unwell.
Finally, Aria’s long-standing indecision crystallized into resolve.
“Climb onto my back,” she said.
“Huh?” Illycia was taken aback by Aria’s sudden offer.
In the blink of an eye, Illycia found herself sprawled across Aria’s dragon back, her eyes tightly shut and her hands gripping the dragon’s scales for dear life, terrified of falling off.
As Aria soared through the sky, she couldn’t help but find Illycia’s behavior a bit melodramatic.
She can’t even stand for a few minutes without her stamina giving out? Aria thought. And after I finally decided to let her ride on my back, she’s too scared to even open her eyes!
The truth was, Aria had been standing at the castle gate all that time, pondering how to transport Illycia.
The main issue was that a dragon’s back wasn’t meant for just anyone to ride. Throughout history, no human had ever managed to tame a dragon as a mount, let alone ride on its back.
As the current Queen of the Dragon Race, Aria’s pride as a dragon forbade her from allowing a defenseless human to ride on her back.
But when she saw Illycia’s pale lips and the beads of sweat on her forehead, she was reminded of their agreement.
If it’s to fulfill our promise, then I’ll let her ride.
And so, Illycia found herself perched behind Aria.
“Hey, human,” Aria asked, her curiosity piqued, “did you live a life of luxury in the Roland Empire, where everything was handed to you on a silver platter?”
Aria had encountered humans before, but none were as… peculiar as Illycia.
“Sort of…” Illycia replied, her voice strained as she listened to Aria’s words.
Just as I suspected, Aria thought to herself.
She’s one of those pampered human girls, completely oblivious to the world’s harsh realities. That’s why she’d say something like wanting me to take her on a world tour.
“Don’t be so tense. I’ve cast a spell around us; you won’t be blown off by the wind.”
Aria couldn’t stand the feeling of Illycia tugging at her scales any longer. It didn’t hurt or itch, but the sensation was just plain odd. She decided to warn the girl.
After all, no one had ever clung to her back like this before, let alone tugged at her scales.
Hearing Aria’s words, Illycia finally realized that there was indeed no turbulence or even wind, contrary to what she had expected.
Tentatively, she opened her eyes.
When she saw the faint, shield-like barrier surrounding them, she understood why she wasn’t experiencing the sensations one would normally expect at such a height.
Given their current altitude and speed, they should have been battered by freezing winds. Without this shield, she would likely have been blown away long ago.
Once she confirmed there was no immediate danger, Illycia slowly sat up and began staring at the two massive dragon wings flapping rhythmically beside her.
Hmm… it’s exactly the kind of feeling I imagined.
As Illycia recovered from her initial fear, excitement gradually filled her heart.
After all, I’m actually riding a dragon! A real, genuine dragon!
She exclaimed excitedly, then carefully crawled to the edge of the dragon’s back and leaned over to gaze at the rapidly passing scenery below.
After being cooped up for over a month, the sight of the landscape rushing by was absolutely breathtaking!
This world contained so many things Illycia had never seen in her previous life. Her innate curiosity burned so fiercely that she wished her eyes could transform into cameras, capturing every detail of the passing scenery and etching it into her memory.
“Wow…”
Illycia gasped at the vibrant, otherworldly trees flashing beneath them.
These must be species unique to this world, she thought.
Illycia’s heartfelt exclamation caught Aria’s attention.
Aria couldn’t help but wonder if this human before her was truly the princess of the Roland Empire. She acted like some country bumpkin who had never seen anything before.
While Aria was distracted by her thoughts, Illycia completely ignored Aria’s gaze, determined to take in every detail of the breathtaking scenery.
Illycia leaned further out to get a better view.
But the moment she moved, she felt herself sliding down the dragon’s curved back.
“Ah… Ah!”
Illycia cried out in alarm as her body began to slip uncontrollably.
Refusing to give up, she quickly grabbed onto a dragon scale, hoping to anchor herself.
However, Illycia had overestimated her current physical strength. She managed to grip the scale, but her arms, as thin as bamboo poles and utterly lacking in muscle, immediately gave out.
“Aaaah!”
Illycia’s desperate scream finally snapped Aria out of her thoughts.
Reacting swiftly, Aria cast a magical aura around Illycia before she could fall out of the protective shield, then gently lifted her back up.
