- Chapter 15 - Let's Travel the World Together!
Aria frowned as she listened to Illycia’s words.
In Aria’s view, she had already lowered herself enough to explain the situation to this human. Yet the human was now pushing her luck.
“But…”
Just as Aria was about to dismiss Illycia as another greedy human, Illycia spoke again.
If Aria’s guess was correct, Illycia was about to propose a condition.
Illycia turned her head, and their violet eyes locked.
Aria watched as Illycia gazed directly at her, then casually brushed a strand of her silver hair aside.
“If you agree to one condition, I’ll cooperate fully.”
Aria’s disdain for humans deepened.
As expected, humans are greedy creatures. All of them are the same.
Yet despite their flaws, humans remained favored by fate, possessing the highest intelligence and astonishing creativity among all races.
“Speak…”
Aria suppressed her emotions and turned to Illycia. After all, Aria had brought Illycia to her castle without consent, asking for help. Agreeing to the human’s request seemed the best course of action.
“My request is…” Illycia began, her large eyes drifting to the sky outside the window, a hint of longing in her gaze. “After everything is over, take me to explore the world! Or, if you’re confident in your strength, we could leave now and return when everything is ready.”
Illycia smiled sweetly at Aria, her hidden intentions now revealed.
When Aria had approached Illycia to explain herself, Illycia realized the Dragon Queen wasn’t as unreasonable as she’d initially thought. Proposing a condition was merely a test to gauge Aria’s rationality.
Aria’s tacit agreement confirmed Illycia’s suspicions: Aria hadn’t lied. She truly hadn’t harmed Illycia’s family or killed anyone.
However, Illycia couldn’t make any definitive conclusions at this point, relying solely on her intuition.
Aria had initially expected Illycia to propose other conditions, such as an inexhaustible supply of gold or powerful magic. After all, Aria had learned of Illycia’s existence through information obtained from trading with humans.
In Aria’s view, humans were creatures who would readily betray their own kind for sufficient gain, without a shred of remorse. This preconceived notion had shaped her initial stereotypical impression of humanity.
Yet Illycia, standing before her, clearly shattered Aria’s preconceived notions about the Human Race.
“Just that?” Aria asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.
“What do you mean, ‘just that’?” Illycia retorted, giving Aria a speechless look.
“Fine, I agree.”
“No… there’s one more thing.”
Aria gazed at Illycia, her heart sinking despite her earlier preparation. The prospect of another demand stirred a flicker of annoyance within her.
“Speak.”
“If possible, take me back to see them. I want to see my parents and explain everything…”
“No.”
Aria flatly rejected Illycia’s condition.
“Why not?”
“Because you’ve already made one request.”
“You…”
Illycia glared at Aria, her anger rising as she stood up abruptly.
“Then I’ll change my request! I don’t want you to take me traveling the world anymore. I just want to see my family one last time. Otherwise, you were lying to me all along!”
Illycia snapped, no longer afraid of what Aria might do to her. After all, she knew she held something Aria needed.
Aria stared at Illycia, her gaze unwavering for several minutes. The intensity of her stare made Illycia’s skin crawl, and she instinctively shrank back.
Finally, Illycia swallowed hard.
“Actually…”
“Fine, I agree.”
Aria turned and left the room, leaving Illycia standing there, utterly bewildered.
“Huh?”
“I’m busy these next few days. I’ll take you in a couple of days, but on one condition: you can’t communicate with them. Just observe, and come back immediately after.”
With that, Aria vanished from Illycia’s sight.
“This…”
Hearing Aria’s condition, Illycia sighed, resigned to her fate.
If I can’t speak, I can’t speak. I just wanted to see if that stinky dragon was telling the truth anyway.
“Fine, fine. It’s my fault for being such a weakling…”
Illycia knew all too well that the weak have no voice. If not for her Anti-Magic Physique, she wouldn’t even have the chance to negotiate.
Sighing, Illycia flopped onto her bed, feeling helpless.
“I never imagined I had such a rare physique…”
She rolled over, lying flat on her back, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling, her thoughts racing.
“I wonder what these dragons want my physique for. I’ll try asking next time…”
Lost in thought, Illycia spent several more days bored in her room.
What surprised her most during this time was that Aria never visited her room again. When Illycia grew restless and tried to go for a walk, the maid at the door stopped her, saying she wasn’t allowed to go anywhere.
Illycia had tried to strike up a conversation with the maid, but the woman refused to speak more than the bare minimum.
This made Illycia think that all members of the Dragon Race were like Aria—expressionless and unnervingly calm, as if their emotions were permanently frozen.
Finally, on the morning of the fifth day, Illycia woke to find Aria standing beside her bed.
“We depart today to fulfill my promise to you,” Aria said coolly, watching Illycia awaken.
Though Illycia was touched that the Dragon Queen, who managed countless affairs of state, remembered their agreement, she couldn’t help but wonder if the timing was a bit… off.
