Chapter 29: Foreplay
Wen Yan covered her swollen cheek. She didn’t expect her first reaction to be anything other than pain; instead, it was.
Xu Ruozhou actually cried.
In this novel, Xu Ruozhou only cried three times in total: the first time was when she was taken away from the orphanage by Mother Xu, weeping tears of joy; the second time was when she reclaimed everything that rightfully belonged to her; and the third time was during that massive rainstorm.
Those reddish-brown pupils looked into the distant void. Rain and tears mixed, dripping into the soil, watering the seed of freedom until it took root and sprouted.
Wen Yan released her hand from her cheek. Her warm fingertip brushed against the Omega’s cool cheek. Frowning deeply, she wiped away the distracting tear stain. “Why are you crying?”
Xu Ruozhou turned her face away, avoiding her hand. Her reddish-brown eyes fixed on the place Wen Yan was desperately trying to cover.
Sensing the Omega’s attempt to lift her clothes, Wen Yan quickly took a step back, crying out in surrender, “No, no, no, Wife—”
“Still trying to hide it from me?!” A hint of a sob was in the Omega’s voice. Wen Yan froze, no longer daring to move.
She stood obediently in place, allowing Xu Ruozhou to pull up her sleeve.
Beneath the sleeve was a bloody, mangled arm. The laceration hadn’t been bandaged and was still bleeding.
Just now, to save Lin Xi, she fought the frenzied Yin Rong. Given the difference in strength, it was inevitable that Yin Rong would slice her a few times. Although the wound was deep, it didn’t hit any major arteries.
Xu Ruozhou’s eyes were red, and her eye sockets gradually became moist. Wen Yan sighed quietly in her heart. She knew this would happen, which was why she didn’t dare let the female lead see the wound.
“Oh, it’s nothing, Wife. I’m an Alpha. I’m strong and healthy. The wound will heal quickly.”
Wen Yan saw that Xu Ruozhou was still biting her lower lip relentlessly. She used her knuckle to press against the Omega’s red lips. “Wife, stop hurting your own lips. It pains me. If you want to bite, bite me instead. I’m an Alpha, thick-skinned, and besides, I…”
“Ah—”
Wen Yan screamed in pain. There was a clear tooth mark on her finger, and beads of blood oozed out. “Wife, why did you actually bite me? I was joking! Wuu—”
Xu Ruozhou wiped the blood from the corner of her lips. Her reddish-brown eyes regained their usual indifference. “You said it yourself—let me bite.”
“Now you’re going back on your word?”
“How could I, Wife~”
Sensing Xu Ruozhou’s attitude softening, Wen Yan immediately pressed her face close, coaxing her good-naturedly, “Wife, as long as you’re not angry, you can bite whatever you want, anywhere!”
“Anywhere?”
Wen Yan nodded seriously, rubbing her hands together. “Of course, Wife!”
The reddish-brown eyes fell on her neck. Wen Yan paused slightly, slowly lowering her head to follow her gaze.
Wen Yan’s face flushed. She shyly covered her scent gland. “Wife, not here.”
“Oh?” Xu Ruozhou’s tone was flat, but a raging fire ignited in her reddish-brown eyes. “Why not here?”
“Didn’t you say I could bite anywhere as long as I wasn’t angry?”
“Is this another lie you made up?”
Xu Ruozhou sneered. “Wen Yan, can you even count how many times you’ve lied to me?”
“…Uh.”
She really couldn’t count them all.
To maintain that initial lie, Wen Yan was forced to tell too many subsequent lies. It wasn’t Xu Ruozhou’s fault for not trusting her.
In front of the female lead, which was more important: dignity or credibility?
The answer was obvious.
Wen Yan glanced around furtively, timidly took her hand, and led her to an unpopulated area.
She looked left and right, confirming again that no one was around. Finally, she made up her mind, gritted her teeth, lifted her long hair, and exposed the scent gland on her neck.
Wen Yan wore a wronged expression. “Wife, I’m really not lying to you this time.”
“Go ahead and bite. As deep as you want… just be gentle. With so many people around, I’m afraid I might accidentally make a sound.”
Wen Yan’s face was beet red. The police investigating had surrounded her villa. Lin Xi and the villa’s servants were also being questioned by the police as eyewitnesses.
With so many people watching, Wen Yan felt truly embarrassed, but—
To prevent Xu Ruozhou from being angry, she decided to overcome that bit of shame. As if making a huge sacrifice, Wen Yan gritted her teeth. “Wife, go ahead and bite. I’m ready!”
A pair of icy hands stroked the delicate skin on the back of her neck. Wen Yan trembled all over. Her ears were scorching hot. “W-Wife?”
Foreplay?!
Wen Yan blushed and caught her fingers. “Wife, stop teasing. Let’s just get this over with.”
Aaaahhh, please, hurry up.
If someone happens to walk by or comes out from behind the trees, they’ll see everything. If that happens, I truly won’t have the face to continue living in this book.
In this Alpha-dominant society where the social status of Alphas is clearly higher than Omegas, if word got out that an Alpha was marked by an Omega…
Wen Yan wore a look of utter resignation. She didn’t want the second half of her life to be listed in the top ten bizarre lists of entertainment news.
The nerves on the scent gland are the most developed; it can sense the slightest disturbance. Almost as soon as the cool fingertip moved away, Wen Yan looked toward Xu Ruozhou, puzzled. “Wife, aren’t you going to mark me?”
The reddish-brown eyes returned to their usual calm.
Xu Ruozhou’s tone was even. “There are too many people here. I’m not generous enough to show my private life to others.”
Wen Yan’s eyes lit up. “That’s great! Ah, no, that’s too bad.”
Olé!
I was so scared. Thankfully, the female lead doesn’t like playing outdoors. If I accidentally made a sound during the marking…
Wen Yan’s face started to burn just thinking about the scene.
Xu Ruozhou glanced at her, her lingering anger not yet gone. Her tone was somewhat cold. “Let’s go. We are the victims. The police still need to question us. Also, the police just sent me a text message. They said…”
“What did they say?”
Xu Ruozhou’s expression was composed, but a hint of ominous shadow crossed her eyes. “Yin Rong has something he wants to tell us.”
The interrogation room.
The Alpha, whose hands were cuffed, looked vacant, like an idiot. Compared to his frenzy when he broke into the villa, it was the extreme opposite.
Wen Yan was startled by his appearance when she walked in.
Outside the interrogation room, the Association police suggested that only one of them, either her or Xu Ruozhou, should go in to speak with Yin Rong. This was exactly what Wen Yan wanted, and she volunteered.
After the struggle at the villa, she had many unanswered questions that she needed Yin Rong to clarify.
Facing the minor villain of the plot, Wen Yan slowly spoke. “Yin Rong.”
A pair of muddy eyes looked over at her.
Yin Rong looked like he had aged ten years overnight. Wen Yan frowned. “Yin Rong, the police said you have something you want to tell Xu Ruozhou and me. Now it’s just the two of us here. What do you have to say…”
Wen Yan paused her voice. “…just say it. After all, this is likely the only chance you’ll have to see me alive again.”
“Say?” Yin Rong tilted his head. His broken gold-rimmed glasses reflected a strange light.
“Yes, say!”
“I have something I want to tell you!”
Yin Rong suddenly rose in excitement, grabbing the iron bars separating the inside and outside of the interrogation room and shaking them desperately. “I want to say…”
“What was it I wanted to say?”
A needle-like pain pierced his brain. The Alpha clutched his head, his expression distorted with agony. “I can’t remember.”
Wen Yan stood up, looking grave. “Yin Rong, take your time. Don’t rush.”
“I know you have a reason. You were used by someone. As long as you can remember, Xu Ruozhou and I are willing to sign a letter of understanding for you to reduce your sentence.”
Wen Yan tried to calm him down, but the Alpha became even more agitated, desperately slamming his head against the iron bars.
He was clearly hitting himself until he was bloody and bruised, yet he acted as if he didn’t feel any pain, showing no intention of stopping.
The guard outside the door heard the commotion and rushed in, grabbing Wen Yan, demanding that she leave immediately.
“CEO Wen, time is up. You need to leave.”
Wen Yan shook off the guard’s hand, gripping the iron bars tightly. She stared at Yin Rong, her tone serious. “Yin Rong, the thing you know is very important—important to both you and me.”
“I’ll come visit you again tomorrow. You must…”
“Remember!”
The guard forcefully pulled Wen Yan out of the interrogation room door. The door slammed shut with a clang, completely isolating all sounds inside and out, as if they were two different worlds.
After a while, the Alpha who was frantically banging his head against the iron bars finally stopped.
Yin Rong struggled to swallow. A barely clear sentence emerged from his broken vocal cords.
“…Be careful of Xu Mingxin.”
Unfortunately, Wen Yan did not hear it.
As soon as Wen Yan came out, Xu Ruozhou rushed over. Seeing her almost grave expression, Xu Ruozhou frowned. “Wen Yan, what happened?”
“The noise in the interrogation room just now was loud. Did Yin Rong attack you?”
Xu Ruozhou pulled up Wen Yan’s sleeve, wanting to check for injuries on her body. Wen Yan grabbed her hand, her expression solemn. “Wife, I have something I want to tell you.”
Xu Ruozhou had never seen Wen Yan look this serious before, and her expression also became earnest. “Tell me.”
Wen Yan’s face was solemn. “I’m prepared to sign a letter of understanding and bail Yin Rong out again.”
Xu Ruozhou’s eyes widened. She seemed completely surprised by her statement. “Why?”
“Yin Rong not only drugged me but also tried to kill you. And you want to bail him out?”
Wen Yan shook her head. “Wife, there are too many suspicious points about Yin Rong. We can’t sacrifice the future for temporary safety, and…”
“Yin Rong is a very important character in the plot. If we can’t get answers from him now…”
The sun slowly set. Darkness fell, opening its huge, bloody mouth, swallowing the light bit by bit.
Wen Yan’s gaze fell on the gradually darkening sky. “I’m afraid our future will be even more difficult.”
