Reborn: The Female Monarch Is My Life’s Greatest Love - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Racing Heartbeat
After slashing the throat of a Bee soldier with his dagger, Nathanael pointed the gun in his left hand behind him. With a single gunshot, another Bee enemy fell at his feet.
As he signaled the aerial combat teams to search for the temporary command camp, his steps charged toward the soaring flames.
“Report: Temporary command camp discovered.”
The electronic voice from the communication device at his ear made Nathanael, who was currently stepping on the head of a Bee soldier, break into a smile. However, the subsequent sound of an explosion from the other end of the device caused him to freeze for a moment: “Report the news.”
“Report: The temporary command camp has exploded.”
“Exploded?” Nathanael looked at his own side, which had already secured the advantage, then lowered his head to light a cigarette, holding it in his mouth. “Switch the feed over.”
The second the command was issued, a light screen was cast from the micro-projector on his shoulder.
Amidst an encampment shrouded in thick smoke and fire, the figure of a Zerg soldier was weaving through the wreckage. To avoid suffocating from the smoke, the individual had already donned a respirator mask.
Despite this, he still hadn’t shaken off the Bee soldiers chasing him, who were as dense as an ant colony.
“That running speed is worse than a recruit’s.” After offering his critique, Nathanael exhaled a cloud of smoke. “Provide support.” Although this nameless Zerg soldier truly lacked perfect speed, the sheer audacity of infiltrating the command camp alone to take out the enemy’s main control tower left Nathanael feeling quite satisfied.
If possible, he could transfer these soldiers to be part of his personal guard.
At this moment, Constant felt his physical strength failing him. Because of the destruction of the command camp, the massive commotion had attracted a large number of Bee pursuers. Not long ago, their cold, glinting long stingers had plunged into the ground right by his ear; just a few millimeters closer, and he might have been pinned to this dust-filled earth, ending everything right there.
Thus, he didn’t dare slow his pace for even a second, because even a momentary lag would plunge him into an endless hell.
But things wouldn’t go as smoothly as Constant hoped. Following a massive explosion, the intense roar caused a temporary loss of hearing in both of Constant’s ears. The subsequent loss of his sense of direction made him stumble and fall to the ground.
Just when he thought he was truly finished, a familiar voice rang in his ear.
“I don’t know who you are, but would you consider joining my team?”
The radio connection that suddenly clicked on in his ear startled Constant. Then, from behind him, overwhelming numbers of Zerg covered the entire sky.
“Let us fight for glory!”
Nathanael’s voice was full of persuasive charm, which, combined with such an overwhelming visual, caused Constant to hear the violent thumping of his own heart in an instant.
He had to admit, he was being flirted with by his own female consort.
After the military females in the sky launched their attack, the ground troops also advanced toward Constant’s position. As the Zerg soldiers surged past him, Constant stood up with the support of a few individuals and looked up at the sky, where a light rain had begun to fall.
The slaughter continued until the Bee marching ships bloomed into dazzling “fireworks” in the sky, and cheers instantly shook the heavens.
Nathanael stood atop the layers of Bee corpses, calmly lighting a cigarette. His eyes, which had been somewhat reddened due to the killing, now revealed a brilliant light. Rain fell from the sky, gradually washing the blood-stained ground until it was spotless. Feeling the coolness of the raindrops on his cheek, he slowly curled his lips.
After following Nathanael’s team back to the post-war recuperation center, Constant could finally relax his mind and lie in a white recuperation pod to rest his eyes for a moment.
Later, upon receiving news that the Imperial Major General was about to visit their recuperation room, Constant immediately deactivated the isolation shield of the recuperation pod and began packing his things, preparing to sneak out while no one was paying attention.
But as he prepared to leave, Nathanael, who was walking at the very front outside, collided head-on with him.
Nathanael, who had been ready to reach out and seize the person’s neck due to the collision, froze before his hand could move. That exceptionally familiar face fell into his gaze.
The frost-like expression melted instantly upon seeing the person in front of him a scene that made the eyes of an officer following diagonally behind him go wide.
“Nar!” Constant decided to take the initiative by opening his arms and hugging Nathanael. “In the end, I just couldn’t stop worrying, so I came to see you.” To hide his identity, Constant had already stowed his original uniform in his backpack; to avoid suspicion, he was currently wearing a long white robe identical to those worn by the nursing staff at the recuperation center.
It’s Major General Nathanael’s male lord! In the flesh!
Realizing who the person in front of them was, the officers behind Nathanael signaled each other with their eyes. Many even craned their necks, trying to see clearly what Nathanael’s male lord looked like so they wouldn’t cross him in other matters in the future.
“I’ve made you worry. I’m fine.” While Nathanael was clearly surprised by Constant’s appearance, a slight sourness welled up in his heart: the other had truly, just as he had hoped, run all the way here specifically to see him.
Though he had run to the wrong place, he had come for him after all.
Saying this, he reached out his hand to pull Constant into his embrace. “We are victorious.”
Feeling the strength of Nathanael’s hug, Constant reached out to pat Nathanael’s head. Though the movement was gentle, it still caused a group of military females to gasp—to them, Nathanael’s head was like the laser cannon of a warship: touch it and it explodes…
But if it was his own male lord… they believed Nathanael wouldn’t be so insane as to tear him to pieces.
Nathanael not only didn’t resist Constant’s touch, but when the other tried to withdraw his hand, he even used his palm to hold Constant’s, placing it against the side of his face and nuzzling it with his cheek. Then, he took Constant’s fingertip into his mouth and gave it a light bite. Combined with Nathanael’s expression and slightly red ear tips, all the officers, realizing their Major General’s thoughts, involuntarily looked elsewhere.
“Oh my, the decoration of this recuperation pod is quite nice.”
“Look at this chandelier, how beautiful.”
“Placing this green plant here really adds a splash of color to the room.”
“Yes, yes.”
“Let’s go look elsewhere. I truly love this environment.”
As the group of officers backed away and left their Major General, Constant pursed his lips and then leaned in to kiss the corner of Nathanael’s mouth. “Seeing that you’re okay, I can finally return home with peace of mind.”
At this moment, the officers hiding around the corner frowned simultaneously: Still so calm at a time like this? Could it be that the Major General’s male lord really has a weak constitution and hidden ailments as the rumors say?
In reality, Constant was just afraid that Nathanael would discover his recuperation pod registration records and become suspicious of him.
The sensing device of the recuperation pod automatically destroys login information once the owner of the pod leaves a certain range. Therefore, in the current situation, Constant decided to leave this place first.
“Wait.” Just as Constant was about to leave his embrace, Nathanael reached out, grabbed his male lord’s collar, and pulled him back in front of him, then narrowed his eyes.
He leaned in close to Constant’s neck and sniffed, then looked up into those blue eyes. “There’s a smell of blood on you, El.”
Upon hearing these words, Constant’s heart skipped a beat for two seconds.
If he couldn’t give Nathanael a reasonable explanation, he believed the other would directly pull the surveillance records of the entire recuperation center to find the cause.
“Because your mission was so urgent this time, I accidentally cut my hand while I was cooking.” For this explanation, Constant even displayed his palm to Nathanael to show he wasn’t lying.
Cooking!!!
Hearing this keyword, the officers around the corner simultaneously covered their mouths. Through their shared looks, they read shock and astonishment in each other’s eyes: Truly worthy of Major General Nathanael. Even with a male lord, he still holds a position in the household and receives unparalleled doting from his lord.
Just as Nathanael was about to look closer, Constant suddenly kissed his lips. This sudden move caused Nathanael to freeze, and his short-circuited brain gradually lost the ability to think actively.
He truly had no defense against his own male lord.
Furthermore, the other had kissed him so recklessly in front of so many military females; this act of asserting sovereignty made Nathanael’s ears turn hot, but more than that, he was addicted to it.
But just as he was becoming lost in it, the warmth in his arms suddenly retreated, pulling back a significant distance. When Nathanael opened his eyes full of confusion, his male lord only left behind a single sentence: “Wait for me to come home.” Then, he sprinted away toward the exit passage.
Nathanael watched the other’s retreating figure, his stalled brain not yet fully reacting. But as Constant’s thoughts gradually shifted, a voice suddenly echoed in his ear: That Zerg soldier who destroyed the Bee temporary command camp.
Realizing this layer, Nathanael turned and walked toward the recuperation information records room. Currently registered recuperation pod records leave a trace when the user’s spiritual feelers link with the pod’s soothing system. Records are kept until they leave the premises; this is a measure to protect the secret information of high-level military personnel and prevent assassination attempts.
