- Chapter 69 - Caught by the Paparazzi Again!
The warmth in her palm made her feel slightly less afraid. Fine, Song Qingxing admitted that if a bodyguard wasn’t scary-looking, they really weren’t intimidating enough.
The two didn’t say much the entire journey. The car turned a few corners and arrived at the police station.
This incident was quite serious.
Especially since Xie Jingcheng, Song Qingxing, and Peng Zhi’en were all public figures, and the matter involved companies and many other factors behind the scenes.
Xie’s family sent very professional people, even including a lawyer. Song Qingxing only glanced at them and felt that Peng Zhi’en was likely to spend the rest of his life enjoying gruel with plain boiled cabbage.
After being questioned about the entire sequence of events, Song Qingxing planned to leave. The rest was to be handled by the police and the lawyers; she still had filming to do.
Of course, Song Qingxing also believed that Peng Zhi’en would receive the punishment he deserved.
However, the crew became exceptionally silent after the incident that day. No one had expected the assistant director and that screenwriter to commit such acts.
For a time, the entire crew was discussing in hushed tones, but fearing they might anger the director, they could only talk a bit during breaks.
Song Qingxing seemed to be affected by this strange atmosphere as well, not saying much the whole day, until she was changing clothes in the dressing room in the evening.
She had just taken off her outer garment, getting ready to change into her daily clothes, when she felt a knock on the dressing room door.
Who is it? Don’t they know this is the lead actor’s room?
Song Qingxing pursed her lips unhappily. If it were the old her, she would have already flared up, but now she just walked over, pressing her body against the door to ask, “Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
The voice was cool and clear. She didn’t need to think to know who it was.
Song Qingxing blinked. She couldn’t very well block her “sugar daddy” outside the door. She reached out and opened the dressing room door.
A cold draft swept in, and the person standing outside walked inside. She carried a faint scent of perfume—luxurious and understated, with the floral fragrance of mandarin orange and jasmine.
“Why are you looking for me? I’m still changing.”
Song Qingxing’s face was slightly red, but she couldn’t delay. The sooner she finished changing, the sooner she could return to the hotel.
Despite some shyness and embarrassment, the two had already slept together several times, and Song Qingxing wasn’t a pure maiden, so she could naturally continue changing.
Her shirt was unbuttoned and tossed aside. She was about to put on her gray cotton t-shirt when her wrist was suddenly grasped.
“You’ve been filming all day and haven’t changed your dressing.”
Only then did Song Qingxing notice the small package Xie Jingcheng was carrying, which contained gauze, medicine, and disinfecting tools.
Hearing Xie Jingcheng say this, Song Qingxing belatedly realized she had indeed only focused on filming today. Because she was deeply engrossed in her acting, she hadn’t paid much attention to the wound on her shoulder, but now that it was mentioned, she suddenly found the pain in her shoulder a bit unbearable.
A tingling, itching sensation spread beneath the skin, yet the surface layer was quite painful.
The itching was due to the body’s healing process, and the pain was the body sensing the injury.
“I’ll help you change the dressing.”
Song Qingxing hadn’t had time to change yet, and her shoulder was bare, feeling slightly cold. But if she put on the t-shirt, it would be difficult to change the dressing.
So, she could only let Xie Jingcheng have her way.
Xie Jingcheng seemed genuinely focused on the task. Her fingers gently unwrapped the bandage, then patiently and carefully used a cotton swab to wipe away the tainted blood and medication powder.
Her technique was more skillful than the last time, no longer clumsy. Although as a rich young lady she had never learned such things, Xie Jingcheng’s learning speed was astonishing.
She knew how to gently apply the ointment to the wound so as not to make the person she cared about cry out in pain.
After the dressing was changed, Xie Jingcheng put the items back into the first-aid kit.
Although it was summer, the summer night was still a bit chilly. Song Qingxing’s shoulder was chilled to a slight pink, looking particularly alluring.
Before Xie Jingcheng could admire it more, the gray t-shirt came down over it.
“Perv, let’s go.”
Her nose was lightly tapped. Xie Jingcheng’s ears hadn’t been red until now, but being called a “perv” made them turn completely red. Yet, she couldn’t refute it because she had indeed sneaked a peek.
The two then left the dressing room. By that time, the crew had mostly dispersed. The surroundings were quiet, with only the streetlights illuminating the path.
Moths fluttered around the edges of the light.
Xie Jingcheng opened the car door for her, and Song Qingxing got in. The car started, and Xie Jingcheng finally spoke again.
“All of Peng Zhi’en’s scandals have been exposed, including his assets abroad, which have also been frozen.”
The Xie family always acted ruthlessly; that guy wouldn’t be able to keep a single penny at home or abroad.
Song Qingxing nodded. Only then did she realize she hadn’t checked her phone all day, so she quickly opened Weibo and saw that Peng Zhi’en’s name practically occupied the entire trending topics list.
He probably hadn’t been this famous his entire life.
The news articles didn’t mention the matter between the two of them. It seemed the Xie family was intent on hiding everything related to Xie Jingcheng.
However, apart from those two things, all of Peng Zhi’en’s other news made headlines, but all were negative, not positive.
Song Qingxing casually flipped through a few posts, then switched to her alt account and liked the comments insulting Peng Zhi’en.
Being a celebrity is stressful, and sometimes one should appropriately vent.
Seeing her liking posts on Weibo, Xie Jingcheng didn’t want to disturb her any further and just watched quietly.
Her thoughts, however, involuntarily drifted to the scene in the dressing room just now.
Song Qingxing’s figure was truly excellent, and her skin was incredibly fair, with a smooth, egg-like texture that she could still clearly remember.
Unfortunately, they were in the car now.
It wasn’t the right place to make demands.
Xie Jingcheng could only endure.
The number of paparazzi secretly photographing the two had decreased these past few days because they knew that any news about Xie Jingcheng wouldn’t be released even if they took the photos.
It was better to spend less effort.
But sometimes carelessness leads to mistakes. Not all paparazzi feared the Xie family, because if they got a big enough scoop, they could extort a large sum.
The two had just gotten out of the car.
Song Qingxing had only walked a few steps when she felt her legs weaken. Perhaps it was because she had filmed many scenes today and used her stunt double sparingly.
So, her entire body was sore.
She nearly stumbled forward on the hotel steps. Xie Jingcheng reached out and held her arm, helping Song Qingxing stand up.
Because of this action, her nose brushed against Xie Jingcheng’s cheek. The gesture was full of ambiguity. After looking at each other, they both gently coughed and looked away.
Unbeknownst to them, this action had been captured in the click of the paparazzi’s shutter.
The neon sign of the hotel entrance flickered, blurring the architecture behind them. Song Qingxing was entirely leaning on Xie Jingcheng, her cheeks flushed, looking exactly like a drunken kiss.
This was a photo sufficient to place the two at the center of a media storm.
The paparazzo, cigarette dangling from his lips, was satisfied with the resulting image.
He wanted to make a name for himself; this was the best way.
Of course, using it to extort money from the Xie family was also a good option.
