- Chapter 67 - Life After the Star Became a Caregiver
Song Qingxing’s arm hurt terribly, but she couldn’t leave Xie Jingcheng unattended in her current state, and her head still felt a bit dizzy.
She could only take the painkiller the doctor left first, and then go pour a glass of warm water.
“Xie Jingcheng, are you feeling okay?”
Song Qingxing used the back of her hand to check; under her palm, the skin was fiery hot. Obviously, the medication wouldn’t take effect this quickly.
Song Qingxing pursed her lips.
She saw Xie Jingcheng’s eyelashes tremble slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes.
“Mmm, I’m fine…”
Although she said so, her cheeks were flushed crimson. By all appearances, she was in a very poor condition.
“Liar, your forehead is so hot.”
Song Qingxing brought the warm water over. Xie Jingcheng leaned against the hotel headboard and slowly drank a few sips. Only then did she purse her lips, feeling the restlessness and irritation in her heart lessen somewhat.
“Does your arm hurt?”
Xie Jingcheng had sharp eyes and naturally noticed Song Qingxing’s bandaged arm. She felt a towering rage in her heart; that guy, Peng Zhi’en, must receive the severest punishment before she could calm down.
“Of course it hurts, but I just took medicine, so it should stop hurting soon.”
Song Qingxing set the water aside.
Then she started to unbutton her shirt, but because one hand was injured, her movement was very clumsy, like a waddling duckling.
“Why are you unbuttoning your shirt?”
Staring at the fair and delicate collarbone, Xie Jingcheng’s face turned very red. She almost forgot the unpleasantness of the day, but then her eyes caught a glimpse of Song Qingxing’s bandaged left arm.
In an instant, all the suggestive thoughts were broken.
How could she be thinking about this at a time like this?
“Your doctor said that given your current situation, you won’t be able to fully recover easily. Peng Zhi’en probably gave you that kind of… medicine.”
Song Qingxing was still a little shy and didn’t dare to say everything out loud.
“That kind of medicine usually doesn’t have that potent effect. You don’t need to worry about it.”
Xie Jingcheng knew a little about this. Although there were indeed some aphrodisiac-type drugs on the market, they couldn’t possibly have the outrageous effects described in novels.
“But the doctor said so.”
“The doctor just wants you to fawn over me. Do you think I don’t understand him?”
Xie Jingcheng closed her eyes.
But she felt the heat surging within her body. Damn it! What did Peng Zhi’en use?
Even so, Xie Jingcheng preferred to pretend nothing had happened. She didn’t want Song Qingxing to wait on her while injured.
That would be too despicable.
“Oh, so that’s how it is.”
Song Qingxing suddenly understood, feeling a little annoyed. How could she believe the doctor’s one-sided statement?
“But I still need to cool down.”
“Could you please get me a few ice packs?”
Song Qingxing obediently complied. When Yu Zhi came over to deliver the ice packs, she kept asking about their well-being. Song Qingxing told her that her hand was fine.
She also asked Yu Zhi how the matter was being handled.
“It’s difficult.”
“This matter can’t be blown up. Your movie is in the editing phase. If we replace the third male lead, a large portion of the plot will have to be reshot.”
Song Qingxing didn’t have the authority to make the decision.
She was about to ask what the company and the Xie family thought, when she heard a voice from the person by the bed.
“He has made mistakes time and time again. We can no longer tolerate it. Reshoot the movie.”
“We cannot let Peng Zhi’en escape the consequences just for the sake of one movie.”
Xie Jingcheng virtually sealed the decision.
Yu Zhi was stunned by Xie Jingcheng’s decree, but she was low-ranking and didn’t dare to argue. She could only look at Song Qingxing with a pleading gaze.
“It’s okay, just convey this message to the bodyguards.”
Song Qingxing nodded. Since Xie Jingcheng said they should reshoot, the company definitely couldn’t stop it. If they wanted to continue working in the entertainment industry, they had to give the Xie family some respect.
“Mhm.”
Yu Zhi then left.
Song Qingxing closed the door, holding the ice packs in her hand, and slowly came to the bedside. She was afraid that if she put the ice pack directly on Xie Jingcheng’s forehead, she would be too cold.
So, she found a hotel towel and folded it twice.
She then placed it on her head. With the ice pack on, she could only feel a faint, cool sensation, not an overwhelmingly cold temperature.
Time passed minute by minute. Song Qingxing went to take a bath. Because she had an injury on her arm, she soaked in the bathtub. Luckily, it wasn’t her right arm that was injured, or it would have been quite troublesome.
The water in the bathtub only reached her chest, not the injury site, so as long as she was careful and didn’t let the water splash, she was fine.
But because of this, Song Qingxing took an incredibly long time to wash.
She finally came out of the bathroom slowly, and then realized Xie Jingcheng hadn’t washed yet.
So, she diligently prepared a basin of hot water for the other person.
Thinking that she, a first-tier actress, was now doing the work of a caregiver, Song Qingxing couldn’t help but laugh at herself.
“Xie Jingcheng, I’ll wipe your body for you so you can sleep comfortably.”
Otherwise, being covered in the smell of alcohol, sweat, and a bit of blood—how could she sleep? This must be terribly uncomfortable.
“Mmm.”
Xie Jingcheng nodded groggily. It seemed she felt sleepy after taking the antidote. Song Qingxing dutifully unbuttoned her shirt.
She tossed the somewhat soiled clothes aside and found a light, thin nightgown.
The hot water-soaked towel lightly wiped her cheek, and then her neck. The rising heat made her a little uncomfortable.
Xie Jingcheng bit her lip and let out a soft moan.
The sound was somewhat alluring.
Song Qingxing’s ears felt utterly tingling.
What was going on?
Didn’t Xie Jingcheng say the medicine had no effect?
Song Qingxing’s fingers trembled. She had no choice but to pretend nothing happened and continue wiping Xie Jingcheng’s body. The towel reached her abdomen.
She had to admit, Xie Jingcheng’s abdomen was definitely well-toned. Song Qingxing felt a heat rush to her nose, narrowly avoiding a nosebleed.
She closed her eyes and silently told herself in her heart that she was wiping someone’s body and absolutely must not let her mind wander.
Despite thinking this, Song Qingxing couldn’t help but secretly open her eyes a tiny bit, admiring the sight greedily.
But she gradually sensed that something wasn’t right.
She had finished her bath, and so much time had passed, yet why hadn’t Xie Jingcheng’s body temperature dropped at all? It seemed the doctor might have been right.
Song Qingxing bit her lip, hesitating. She was injured right now, and she wasn’t sure how to solve such a troublesome issue.
But an idea suddenly flashed in her mind: it wasn’t necessarily true that she had to use her arm.
Thinking this, Song Qingxing continued to dutifully wipe the other person’s body until she had changed the water twice. Only then did she climb onto the bed, ready to rest.
“Xie Jingcheng, are you okay?”
Song Qingxing turned off the main light. In the hotel room, only the small, exquisite bedside lamp cast a glow.
Xie Jingcheng’s phone lit up several times, but she ignored it, clearly due to her physical condition.
