- Chapter 47 - Does Grandma Oppose or Support the Relationship?
It didn’t take long to change clothes. Song Qingxing quickly put on the shirt. Since Xie Jingcheng was taller than her, the sleeves draped down to her wrists.
With the sudden heavy rain and the indoor set not being ready, the crew was given the day off and allowed to leave early.
The production staff was quite happy, with some going out for dinner and others making plans to watch a movie with their girlfriends.
Xie Jingcheng had originally planned to take Song Qingxing out. She had heard that Song Qingxing was fond of flowers, so she found a botanical museum.
A section inside the museum was dedicated to growing fresh flowers, featuring various roses, including rare varieties.
Finding such a place in this city required some effort, especially since the greenhouse was primarily used for research and experimentation.
It was closed most of the time, opening only on rare occasions. However, by leveraging her so-called “money power,” everything became possible for Xie Jingcheng.
Xie Jingcheng led Song Qingxing to the car and was about to show her the pictures of the museum. If Song Qingxing didn’t like it, she would cancel the trip.
Many things required consulting your partner’s opinion, rather than acting unilaterally—thinking that what you like is automatically what the other person likes.
But before she could open the photo album, a call came through.
“Hello?”
The caller was the housekeeper from her family’s old estate. He usually wouldn’t call unless it was urgent, as he knew she was very busy.
“Miss, the Old Madam wants to host a ball and keeps mentioning you. Do you think you have time to rush back?”
The housekeeper used a respectful title; his aged voice filled with humility.
Xie Jingcheng sighed. Her grandmother had always doted on her, so she couldn’t possibly not go. Although she wanted to pursue love, some things couldn’t be accomplished in a single day.
It takes at least a few months to warm a cold stone by holding it close to your chest.
“I will go back.”
The old estate was not far from this city. If she timed it precisely, it would only take about a day.
After all, airplanes were fast these days, and she could quickly arrive after a short sleep on the plane. First-class cabins were perfectly suitable for sleeping—they were quiet, undisturbed, and convenient for washing and comfortable.
Xie Jingcheng talked with the housekeeper for a few more minutes before hanging up. Staring at the vibrant roses in the photo, she sighed. The road to winning love was long.
“What’s wrong?”
Noticing the abnormality of the person beside her, Song Qingxing turned her head and immediately saw the beautiful roses in the photo album. The variety looked quite expensive.
“Are you planning to buy me flowers? You don’t need to be so romantic.”
Song Qingxing politely declined. It wasn’t that she didn’t like flowers, but with filming, such expensive flowers would only sit in the hotel, and she would only be able to smell their fragrance in the evening before they wilted in two days.
What’s the point? It would be better to buy them when she had time off after filming. Then, the entire room would be filled with fragrance, which she could enjoy all day.
Even during her poorest and most desperate times, Song Qingxing would buy one or two bouquets for herself. Smelling the floral scent in the room made her feel like her rented apartment had become a five-star hotel.
While talking, Song Qingxing unconsciously rested her cheek on Xie Jingcheng’s shoulder. Xie Jingcheng’s heart pounded fast, but she kept quiet, knowing that speaking would surely scare away this timid rabbit.
Instead, she slid her finger across the album, showing Song Qingxing the pictures of the greenhouse.
“I wanted to take you to this place. I got the feeling you’re someone who likes flowers.”
In fact, this was the answer Xie Jingcheng had secretly gotten by asking people close to Song Qingxing, but she wasn’t going to tell her that. She just liked seeing the little rabbit’s surprised expression.
“Is that so?”
“I didn’t even know this city had a greenhouse.”
Song Qingxing was a bit surprised.
“It’s a pity, though. I have to go back to my grandma’s place.”
“I might not be able to visit today.”
Xie Jingcheng shook her head, voicing her regret.
“It’s okay. I’ll wait for you to come back, and we can go together. Enjoying flowers alone… is quite boring.”
Song Qingxing said honestly.
Inwardly, she breathed a sigh of relief. The sugar mommy was finally leaving, and she finally had some private time. It wasn’t that she disliked Xie Jingcheng; she just felt tired from having to deal with her these past few days.
It was truly difficult not to be moved. When such a gentle and beautiful woman is around you all day, considering your every meal, helping you dress, and drying your long hair for you—
Anyone would be moved, right? To not be moved would be utterly heartless.
“Then it’s a date.”
Xie Jingcheng suddenly extended her hand, hooking up her little finger and shaking it in front of Song Qingxing.
Anyone who played “pinky swear” as a child would recognize this gesture immediately. Who would have thought that a grand, wealthy heiress would play such a childish game with her?
But it was quite interesting.
Song Qingxing also extended her little finger. Their little fingers intertwined, and at that moment, Song Qingxing felt a pang of childhood nostalgia.
“I promise you, when I get back, I’ll go to that greenhouse with you.”
“No lying, or you’re a puppy.”
Song Qingxing blinked and added the next line. Then, they released their hands. The car had also arrived at the hotel. Xie Jingcheng had the driver drop Song Qingxing off first before taking her to the airport.
The black chauffeur car drove through the heavy rain and mist, arriving in front of the luxurious hotel. The bodyguard in the front passenger seat got out and held up a black umbrella, then opened the car door for them.
Xie Jingcheng stepped out with her long legs, placing her feet on the water-covered road. After only a few steps, she turned around and held Song Qingxing’s hand as she got out of the car.
“I’ll be heading to the airport soon.”
“Remember to take care of yourself these few days. The weather is likely to change with the rain, and you could easily catch a cold.”
Xie Jingcheng gave detailed instructions. She usually wasn’t very talkative, but she seemed to have endless things to say to the person she liked.
Although this affection stemmed from an absurd case of love at first sight, after getting to know her better, she realized that Song Qingxing was a genuinely good person.
Even when Song Qingxing used to have a bad temper, she still liked her. When calm, she was like a snow mountain goddess; when fiery, she resembled a demonic cult’s saintess. No matter which persona, Xie Jingcheng would be captivated.
They had barely taken two steps when they found someone waiting outside the hotel. The person held a black umbrella and, upon seeing Xie Jingcheng, adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses on his nose.
“Miss.”
“The Old Madam sent me.”
“She said she wanted to meet your girlfriend.”
The old housekeeper spoke very respectfully, but Xie Jingcheng felt a sense of helplessness because she knew she couldn’t refuse him. Even though he was just their family’s servant, he took orders directly from her grandmother.
The feeling was similar to that of a chief eunuch next to the emperor—his words were equivalent to the emperor’s.
“Can it not wait a few days? Qingxing… is filming right now, so it might not be convenient.”
“Oh, there’s no problem. I’ve already spoken with the crew.”
The housekeeper’s hair was gray, and wrinkles appeared around his forehead and mouth when he smiled. However, this smile always made Song Qingxing feel it was a dagger hidden in a smile.
It seemed like she had to go, whether she wanted to or not.
Song Qingxing bit her lip, guessing that she must have been painted as a temptress by everyone within the Xie family.
