- Chapter 46 - The Narrow Changing Room
“No.”
Song Qingxing’s blush was incredibly enticing, like a perfectly ripe peach.
“I just feel like… maybe my performance these past few days hasn’t been very good, and I’m afraid you’ll get tired of me.”
Song Qingxing plucked up her courage and finally decided to stop speaking in riddles. It was painful for both of them, so she might as well lay everything out.
“Don’t worry. My liking for you won’t fade that easily.”
“Otherwise, I was still willing to stick around when your temper was so foul back then. Now that you’ve become so compliant, why would I suddenly stop liking you?”
Xie Jingcheng kissed the tip of her nose.
Only then did she resume her bath.
Neither of them spoke much, save for the soothing music playing from the hotel’s sound system. With the massage function of the bathtub activated, Xie Jingcheng’s entire body was eased of its tension.
It seemed that pursuing a girlfriend really couldn’t be accomplished overnight; one had to wait patiently.
Xie Jingcheng thought this to herself, deciding to slow down and let the little rabbit adjust before launching a fierce attack.
After a good night’s rest, Song Qingxing prepared to go shoot again. Seeing her fatigued these past few days, Xie Jingcheng hadn’t pressed her at all.
How truly thoughtful.
Song Qingxing’s heart couldn’t help but be touched, but the moment her pulse quickened, she snapped herself out of it. No! She absolutely could not think that way.
If she were to actually fall for her sugar mommy, she would be the most foolish person on earth.
After breakfast, Xie Jingcheng had the driver take both of them to the set.
Initially, her excuse was merely that her family had invested in the project and she was visiting. But now that she had taken on a supporting role as a guest star, she could appear on set much more openly.
The director had already sent the electronic script the previous night. Xie Jingcheng glanced through it while blow-drying her hair after her shower.
It turned out the guest role had quite a few scenes; she was a close female friend of the main character, and there were even some ambiguous moments between them.
Xie Jingcheng highly suspected that the director had asked the screenwriter to add these scenes overnight.
However, the scenes weren’t jarring. If they were poorly written, she definitely wouldn’t have played them.
Rather than having clumsily added screen time, she’d prefer one standout, high-impact shot.
Song Qingxing finished her makeup and was about to leave when she remembered that Xie Jingcheng was also getting her makeup done; she had a scene today—and it was opposite her.
The thought of Xie Jingcheng constantly acting opposite her made Song Qingxing feel a little guilty. She could already guess what Xie Jingcheng’s fans would curse her with.
They would call her a fox spirit, a succubus.
A temptress who hooked their idol, causing her to lose sleep and appetite, constantly clinging to her instead of focusing on her career.
In truth, the fans wouldn’t be wrong, except that it wasn’t her clinging to Xie Jingcheng, but the other way around.
Song Qingxing decided to wait for her outside the door.
A moment later, Xie Jingcheng emerged, wearing a pure, innocent school uniform. Many people in their twenties look somewhat dated when they put on a school uniform again.
But Xie Jingcheng didn’t give off that impression.
Although she was a few years older than Song Qingxing, the way she wore the uniform was genuinely pure and utterly captivating.
“Staring?”
She was lightly tapped on the nose. Song Qingxing took a few steps back and retorted, “I was not.”
“I know I’m beautiful.”
“You can look if you want. You don’t have to sneak glances; I won’t be angry.”
Xie Jingcheng was always generous towards the person she liked. Even if Song Qingxing stared at her face like a pervert trying to find patterns, she wouldn’t mind.
Xie Jingcheng commented with a smile.
But inwardly, she couldn’t help but realize: So, she likes the uniform temptation look. I guess I need to cater to her preferences.
Just as she was thinking this, she heard the floor manager rushing them. Once the camera was ready, there could be no further delay. With so many crew members running on set, every minute and second cost money.
Song Qingxing and Xie Jingcheng hurried to the set. The shot went smoothly.
For Xie Jingcheng, acting in a web drama was as easy as breathing. She couldn’t even go all out with her acting, or none of the rookie actors would be able to keep up.
However, summer is the rainy season. The morning’s shoot went well, but the afternoons did not. A torrential downpour suddenly began, just like the day they shot the commercial.
The crew frantically moved the equipment indoors.
Song Qingxing was also caught in the unexpected rain and became completely drenched. Since it was a lightweight, breathable summer school uniform, the rainwater clung to her body, making it increasingly transparent. Her fair skin was faintly visible, drawing the gaze of everyone on set.
Xie Jingcheng glared at those people.
Her expression seemed to say: This is my wife. What are you looking at?
So everyone lowered their heads, touching their noses, feeling guilty and daring not to look again.
Xie Jingcheng pulled her into the changing room. Her assistant hadn’t brought many clothes—it was too much to carry—so there were only one or two spare shirts in the bag.
Xie Jingcheng now took out her own silk shirt. Song Qingxing just glanced at it and knew the shirt was expensive.
If she wore it and accidentally snagged a thread, wouldn’t she be unable to afford the replacement?
So, she hesitated slightly.
“It’s okay, I’ll just wear the T-shirt Yu Zhi gave me. Wearing your clothes is too much trouble.”
Xie Jingcheng looked down at her shirt, but then narrowed her eyes as she scrutinized Song Qingxing, a suspicion forming in her mind.
“Song Qingxing, you’re lying.”
“You just don’t want to wear my clothes.”
“I didn’t…”
Before she could finish the last word, Xie Jingcheng pressed her against the wall. She supported herself with one hand on the changing room wall—a posture similar to a ‘wall slam,’ but because the distance was so close, it was even more intimate.
“You’re trying to fool me. Do you think I can’t tell? I’ve been acting since I was a child.”
“You want to lie to me?”
“Song Qingxing, go win an Actress of the Year award first.”
Although the words sounded arrogant, they were true. When people lie, they display signs of guilt, such as their eyes darting around, or their earlobes or the tip of their nose turning red.
While it wasn’t a perfect rule, Xie Jingcheng could usually figure out whether the other person was acting or being genuine with careful observation.
She had a talent for this.
Alright…
I’ve been found out.
Song Qingxing could only reluctantly reach out and take the shirt.
“I just feel bad always bothering you like this.”
“It’s no bother.”
Xie Jingcheng lifted her hands to undo the buttons of the uniform, her expression serious and sincere. Her fingers trailed downwards, completely unfastening the buttons.
Xie Jingcheng put the uniform aside. She patiently helped Song Qingxing put on the shirt, but her own ears had secretly turned red.
How strange.
I’ve already seen and touched her.
Why does my heart still beat so quickly?
