- Chapter 40 - Busy Chasing Someone, No Mind for Work
The hotel room door was knocked a few times, but there was no response.
Yu Zhi had to muster up her courage and knock a few more times. Finally, the door opened with a “click,” but surprisingly, the person behind the door was not Song Qingxing’s beautiful face.
Instead, it was a slightly indifferent face. Yu Zhi was startled and stammered, “S… Sister Xie, why is it you?”
“If not me, who else could it be?”
Xie Jingcheng was wearing a bathrobe, but if one looked closely, they could see faint marks on her neck.
Tsk, tsk, Yu Zhi thought to herself. It must have been an intense battle. If there were really any marks left, she would have to trouble the makeup artist to cover them up.
They couldn’t let the director or the audience see anything.
“Qingxing is already doing her makeup. I’ll take her to breakfast soon, and then we’ll go to the set.”
Anyway, the male lead’s acting wasn’t going smoothly. Song Qingxing would just be warming the bench if she went early; she would have to wait until he got his scenes right before she could do hers.
“Is that so?”
“Then I’ll go prepare my things.”
Yu Zhi smiled. Xie Jingcheng nodded, then closed the door. She turned around and looked at the person inside the room. Where was Song Qingxing putting on makeup?
Her hair was a mess; she had clearly just tumbled out of bed.
“You said I was doing my makeup, but I wasn’t even ready…”
Xie Jingcheng was truly unflappable; she dared to lie so brazenly. As expected of a Movie Queen, this was something Song Qingxing definitely couldn’t do.
“What are you afraid of? Just wear a mask. When you get to the set, the makeup artist will do it naturally.”
Xie Jingcheng leaned against the doorframe. There should be a restaurant downstairs. She had messaged her assistant who had followed her to check the flavors and reviews this morning. They were all quite good.
“I’ll take you to eat later.”
Xie Jingcheng reached out, her slender fingers tucking the messy long hair behind the other woman’s ear. After a quick tidying, she picked up a comb from the bedside table.
She began to comb Song Qingxing’s hair carefully.
Her expression was tender, like the actions a newlywed husband would take toward his wife.
Song Qingxing was initially a little uneasy and nervous, but she gradually began to enjoy the feeling.
Just like last night.
By the time the two had washed up and gotten dressed, the sun was high in the sky. Song Qingxing’s cheeks were flushed. She had never gotten up this late before, and her waist and thighs still felt faintly sore.
This feeling was magnified indefinitely.
Song Qingxing could only clench her legs together. She told herself that it was inevitable to feel this way after a first intimate encounter, and perhaps she would get used to it after a few more times.
Thinking about how she hadn’t even dated anyone in her previous life, Song Qingxing couldn’t help but purse her lips. At least she had “earned” this life.
She even managed to sleep with the great Movie Queen.
After breakfast—which was really closer to lunch—Song Qingxing finally arrived on set. Rushing to the makeup room, she temporarily left Xie Jingcheng aside.
“Sister, I already instructed the makeup artist beforehand. They’ll be careful, and I gave them a hush fee.”
Yu Zhi quietly moved closer. She had arrived on set in the morning. Since Song Qingxing hadn’t arrived, the director had started filming the male lead’s scenes.
She had to admit; the new male lead’s acting was truly terrible. She didn’t know why the company insisted on promoting him.
However, Yu Zhi had heard a bit of gossip from the driver: the male lead was the child of a company shareholder. Instantly, all the inexplicable things made sense.
Sure enough, the ugly children of capitalists would continue to multiply.
She wondered if this film would be a hit.
Yu Zhi was full of worries.
Although the male lead wasn’t stunningly handsome, he had a clean, refreshing, campus-like aura. The director’s guidance was also good, so it should still be okay.
Yu Zhi could only comfort herself this way.
“Hush fee?”
“What hush fee?”
Song Qingxing strode forward. Because of her long legs, she walked quickly, passing by like a breeze, and soon reached the makeup room.
She hadn’t done anything like acting like a diva in the makeup room; why would she need to give the makeup artist a hush fee?
“Didn’t you and Xie Jingcheng yesterday…”
Yu Zhi didn’t know how to describe it. Although she had been an assistant for a few years, this was the first time she had encountered her boss dating.
So, she had asked a senior in the industry, who taught her to handle it this way. This would allow the boss to date with maximum peace of mind.
“Xie Jingcheng and I?”
Song Qingxing’s mind hadn’t caught up yet.
“The two of you were in the same room. Shouldn’t something have happened?”
Yu Zhi’s heart sank. Oh no!
If nothing had truly happened between them, wouldn’t she have tried to flatter her boss and ended up insulting her instead?
“Indeed…”
Song Qingxing had already opened the door to the makeup room.
Just as she was about to say that something earth-shattering had indeed happened, she suddenly realized why her assistant wanted to give the makeup artist a hush fee.
She reached out and tapped Yu Zhi’s forehead.
“What are you thinking? Xie Jingcheng is an insider, after all. She didn’t leave any marks on me. She’s not rough at all…”
Halfway through the sentence, Song Qingxing regretted speaking. She seemed to have accidentally said a little too much.
“Is that so…”
Yu Zhi’s face quietly flushed. Crap! She seemed to have heard something she shouldn’t have.
“However, since you’ve given it, you don’t need to ask for it back. Just consider it treating the makeup artists to a meal.”
Everyone said that when acting on a set, you must never offend the makeup and costume artists, or the resulting look would be ugly enough to make people cry.
Yu Zhi rubbed her nose, feeling a little embarrassed. She had misjudged this one.
She hadn’t expected Xie Jingcheng, this “sugar daddy,” to be so gentle with people, not at all like the rough and domineering types written about in novels who won’t stop until they’ve left the person covered in bruises.
After makeup, it was Song Qingxing’s turn to appear. The extras hired by the director also arrived. To ensure authenticity, the extras were mostly students from a drama university.
Their ages were controlled at nineteen or twenty. This age group has the innocent foolishness of college students, making them easy to direct, while still retaining the last traces of youth.
They were perfect for being extras in a campus drama.
This scene was set in a classroom.
All non-essential personnel had to leave, but one non-essential person was able to lean against the doorframe and watch the entire play openly.
This person was Xie Jingcheng.
Xie Jingcheng was followed by one or two assistants. Although the Xie family had invested in this film, the main investment company was Song Qingxing’s company.
Logically, Xie Jingcheng shouldn’t have to come in person.
But not only did she come yesterday, she came again today.
It truly sparked curiosity.
Tang Tang lowered her head. All the work groups on her phone were muted, but the message bubbles kept popping up one after another.
Tang Tang, why aren’t you urging Jingcheng? We have so many scripts in hand. If she doesn’t take one soon, others will snatch them up.
Some directors are still waiting for a reply.
Tang Tang felt a splitting headache and sighed in her heart.
Their Movie Queen was busy chasing girls; how could she have any mind for work?
