- Chapter 32 - Oh No, I've Become a Stand-in!
The commotion was so significant that it naturally caught the attention of more than just Song Qingxing; the other people from the advertising company also looked up.
One worker, in an effort to get a better look at who was coming, even had the rainproof sheeting he was holding blown away. After being severely scolded by the director, he finally went to retrieve the sheeting that had been carried far away by the wind.
Xie Jingcheng walked quickly and soon arrived next to Song Qingxing. She was enveloped in a thick mist of water, and even more surprisingly, there was a red mark on her cheek. It wasn’t obvious from a distance, but up close, it looked exactly like a slap received after being caught during a secret rendezvous.
Song Qingxing pondered. Who would dare treat Xie Jingcheng like this? That person must have an outrageous number of guts.
“What happened to your face?”
As if she had already expected the question, Xie Jingcheng merely shook her head and patiently explained, “I ran into An Wenqing on the way here. She was very angry about the relationship between you and me, so she slapped me.”
When Song Qingxing heard this, her eyes widened. After being threatened by An Wenqing that day, Song Qingxing had spent a lot of time secretly searching for the other party’s name and family background while tucked in bed.
A woman who had a dedicated entry on the ‘blue dog paw’ search engine was definitely not an ordinary person.
Song Qingxing had indeed found out her background.
She was the youngest daughter of the A Group’s head, and she had even made it to the trending topics list when her father gifted her a private island upon her coming of age.
The other party certainly had the capital to be arrogant, but no matter how arrogant she was, she shouldn’t have slapped Xie Jingcheng.
Cough, cough… Now is the time to display my green tea power… No, my girlfriend power!
Song Qingxing rummaged through her bag and pulled out a wet wipe. The wipe was cool, which usually helped alleviate some of the heat in summer. Right now, pressing it against the reddened cheek could hopefully reduce some of the stinging pain.
“Are you silly? Did you just let her bully you like that? You should have dodged when you had the chance.”
The distress in Song Qingxing’s tone was genuine. Xie Jingcheng, in Song Qingxing’s previous life, was an untouchably high and mighty figure. To experience this now was something she couldn’t have imagined.
“I didn’t expect her to hit me,” Xie Jingcheng smiled with a hint of helplessness. “It seems I still underestimated her.”
So, there truly were people who would become irrationally angry when they couldn’t get what they wanted. This symptom could appear in both men and women.
After all, everyone is human and has countless flaws.
“But your face is very important! When we get back, I’ll have someone send over some medicine for the swelling.”
“Don’t worry, it’s very effective. I use it sometimes in the film crew to reduce swelling after acting scenes.”
Not all actors use stand-ins for slapping scenes. Over ten years ago, a few veteran actors had a scene where they had to scold and slap each other.
The two veterans ended up getting so carried away with the slaps that they almost sent the other to the hospital, truly embodying the sense of brothers turning against each other. The director had to intervene to stop the conflict.
Because the rain was too heavy, filming the commercial couldn’t continue. Song Qingxing discussed it with the director and decided to leave for the day.
The unfinished scenes could only wait until the weather improved, or if there wasn’t enough time, they would have to be shot in a studio using a green screen.
Yu Zhi quickly packed the luggage, held an umbrella for herself, and very tactfully kept her distance.
Xie Jingcheng also took an umbrella from a bodyguard, simultaneously shaking her head at him, indicating that she didn’t need the bodyguard’s assistance.
“I’ll hold the umbrella for you.”
Having just been slapped, most people would be in a very unpleasant mood.
However, Xie Jingcheng was quite cheerful, her lips upturned in a manner like a proud little white cat.
“Thank…”
Song Qingxing was about to say “Thank you,” but suddenly felt that Xie Jingcheng might not like it, so she swallowed the word and changed her expression.
“Xie Jingcheng, you were hit. Aren’t you going to punish her?”
How could anyone just take a slap for free?
Song Qingxing absolutely could not accept it because if Xie Jingcheng continued to indulge this childhood sweetheart, the other party might genuinely try to steal her position.
Song Qingxing couldn’t say she was deeply in love with Xie Jingcheng, but she already felt some fondness and didn’t want to give up her status as Xie Jingcheng’s lover so soon.
Perhaps continuing to stay together could truly spark the fire of love?
“I haven’t thought about it. I don’t want to blow this up too much. The Xie family and the A family still have collaborations.”
“But you can’t just tolerate it because of a collaboration!”
Song Qingxing began to offer advice. She absolutely couldn’t let Movie Queen Xie suffer this grievance.
Seeing the other party care for her so much, Xie Jingcheng was quite moved. Being asked by the person who made her heart flutter felt uniquely special.
“I know. I will…”
Xie Jingcheng didn’t state what she would decide to do. Song Qingxing moved closer, and the only sound near their ears was the pattering of raindrops, hitting the black surface of the umbrella. To avoid getting wet, Song Qingxing was practically pressed right up against Xie Jingcheng. Seeing the other’s umbrella tilt towards her, Song Qingxing moved her own umbrella back.
“Xie Jingcheng, you can’t just minimize the issue or let it slide. The best way to resolve this isn’t to tell your parents, but to tell An Wenqing’s parents.”
Having lived seven or eight years longer, Song Qingxing had gone from being naive and ignorant to becoming half a veteran schemer, enduring countless hardships in between.
If she told Xie Jingcheng’s parents, parents who value work over life might have a 50% chance of telling their daughter to endure it, just to maintain the harmony between the An and Xie families. Song Qingxing would never allow Xie Jingcheng to suffer such a grievance.
The other party is my sugar mommy; I should be the one to protect her!
“Qingxing, your strategy is good.”
Xie Jingcheng shook her head.
“But I don’t need it.”
Xie Jingcheng chose to refuse, which was unexpected for Song Qingxing. A sudden thought flashed through her mind: Does she also like An Wenqing?
Oh no, am I about to become a stand-in?
Song Qingxing couldn’t help but spiral with worrying thoughts. However, before she could pursue that line of thinking, the two arrived at the parking lot.
A bodyguard opened the car door. Xie Jingcheng, holding the umbrella, very elegantly let Song Qingxing get in first. Once Song Qingxing was in the car, she noticed Yu Zhi and the driver sent by the company looked bewildered.
They clearly hadn’t expected her to simply get into someone else’s car.
“You two go back first,” Song Qingxing said.
She would be entangled with Xie Jingcheng for many years to come, and the people around her would have to adapt sooner or later.
“But Sister Song, the company instructed me to take you back to the company,” the driver, clearly inexperienced, was about to continue speaking when Yu Zhi quickly pulled him away.
Xie Jingcheng got into the car and leaned over.
“Qingxing, I want to take some photos with you to make An Wenqing give up.”
As a long-time friend, Xie Jingcheng knew exactly how to make An Wenqing completely hurt and give up.
If she truly told An Wenqing’s parents, An Wenqing would indeed be subjected to a ‘mixed doubles’ scolding from her parents, but this would also make her even more possessive.
It would be better to directly take some intimate photos.
That would completely crush An Wenqing’s psychological defense.
