- Reborn as the Black Moonlight of the Male Lead in a Wish-Fulfillment Novel
- Chapter 5 - A Question from Mother: Did They Stay Up Late Last Night?
After confirming through the system that no one was outside, Shu Chen closed the door and produced a needle from somewhere.
Having lived alongside danger for years, Xiao Nian could sense the approach of a crisis before it arrived.
He had been lounging lazily on the bed, but now he sat up straight, clutching the blanket with both hands, waiting for the little freak to make his move.
Shu Chen pierced the needle into his own arm, and the pitch-black shaft instantly turned blood-red.
He slowly approached the male lead, his gaze landing on the other’s neck. “I saved your life, so your life belongs to me now.”
Xiao Nian laughed in anger. He’d just taken a nap, and now he woke up to being sold into servitude?
“Are you dreaming? Want me to wake you up, big brother?”
Seeing the little freak getting closer, Xiao Nian abandoned any pretense of modesty and threw off the blanket only to have Shu Chen suddenly lunge forward and step on his foot before he could get off the bed.
It was a staple of progression-type male leads that before the final showdown, one or two characters with combat power exceeding the protagonist’s would always appear. Not to mention that the male lead hadn’t even left the starting village yet compared to a cultivator, he was pathetically weak.
Shu Chen knelt on the bed, easily forcing him against the wall.
The little freak’s unabashed gaze was fixed on his neck, impossible to ignore. Xiao Nian, furious, swung his hand at the man’s face, but despite the pretty boy’s frail appearance, his strength was considerable, and Xiao Nian’s wrist went numb from the grip.
The overwhelming suppression ignited Xiao Nian’s fighting spirit. He dropped the act he wasn’t going to die anyway, and this thing kept provoking him at every turn. Not fighting back just wasn’t him.
Facing the male lead’s explosive resistance, Shu Chen withdrew the needle and used brute force to subdue him again without causing excessive injury.
After the chaos, Shu Chen’s hair ribbon had ended up binding the male lead’s wrists, and the bedsheet had been torn into two strips, one tied around each of Xiao Nian’s ankles.
Xiao Nian was fuming. “You bastard! If you’ve got the guts, fight me one-on-one without using any of your tricks!”
Shu Chen sat beside him, breathing steadily. “Can’t do that. I can’t beat you in a fair fight.”
He gathered his disheveled hair from the scuffle. “It’s dirty now. I’ll have to bathe again later.”
The male lead had no regard for his own body the wound that had just stopped bleeding was seeping again, and he’d gotten Shu Chen dirty too.
Xiao Nian was inhaling less than he was exhaling. “You deserve it! You could’ve slept but instead you came looking for trouble!”
Shu Chen took out the needle, patted his face, and said in a good-natured tone, “Don’t move. This is my first time, so it’d be bad if I accidentally hurt you.”
Thank the original owner he really might have been a pervert. There were all sorts of strange little trinkets in the basement. Before disposing of the evidence, Shu Chen had taken a liking to this small needle, and it had elevated his amusement with the male lead to a whole new level.
He leaned close to the male lead’s neck and cast a cleansing spell. “Right here. I’ll tattoo my name here, and from now on, you’re my man.”
Xiao Nian thrashed his head desperately. “Have you no shame?! If you put it there, how am I supposed to show my face in public?!”
Shu Chen said matter-of-factly, “Why would you need to go out?”
At that, Xiao Nian’s gaze toward him shifted, as if he wished he could tear him apart on the spot.
Shu Chen was skilled at putting himself in others’ shoes. Understanding the male lead’s current feelings, he touched his neck gently and said softly, “I promise, even if the servants in the manor happen to notice, no one will dare say a word.”
“Stay still and behave. It’ll be done soon.”
Xiao Nian’s pent-up rage concentrated in his brain, and when Shu Chen’s first needle went in, it exploded. Using what seemed like all his strength, he rasped, “Stop. Hold on.”
Shu Chen’s lips curved slightly upward. “Something wrong?”
Realizing he couldn’t go head-to-head with this little freak, Xiao Nian began to negotiate. “Pick somewhere else. Not here.”
Shu Chen withdrew the needle, looking troubled. “But there’s no good skin left on you.”
Xiao Nian’s fury flared again. “You dare bring that up!”
Shu Chen looked at him coldly. “Is that the attitude you should have?”
After cursing him eight hundred times in his head, Xiao Nian said, “I was wrong.”
Shu Chen put on the airs of a master. “Too insincere.”
Xiao Nian’s expression shifted with remarkable ease, and he smiled at the little freak. “I’m sorry. Please pick a different spot.”
Shu Chen knew the other wasn’t truly convinced, but that was fine. Just as the male lead could feign humility for his own benefit, he too could pretend to be satisfied to achieve his goals.
“Alright. Actually, there is one other place you could choose.”
Xiao Nian kept his smile. “Name it.”
Shu Chen pointed at his heart, feeling the powerful pulse beneath the skin. “How about here?”
The male lead narrowed his eyes slightly, as if contemplating what death he’d choose for the man later. “Any other options?”
Shu Chen shook his head. “No. Your pick.”
He didn’t want to choose either spot. The little freak kept surpassing his expectations.
Seeing his hesitation, Shu Chen offered, “Then let’s just do the neck.”
“Wait. I choose the lower one.” Compared to the heart, at least that spot could be shown in public he wasn’t going to stay cooped up in the City Lord’s manor forever.
Shu Chen glanced at the point on his neck that had already turned into a red mole. “Unless you cut that piece of flesh out, once it’s tattooed, it can’t be removed. Are you sure you want it in such a dangerous place?”
Xiao Nian closed his eyes, unwilling to look at him a moment longer. “I’m sure. Do it there.”
When the needle pierced the skin, it wasn’t as painful as the bleeding he’d experienced before, but it was deeply humiliating.
The male lead didn’t seem to know what he was thinking Shu Chen could hear the sound of his teeth grinding even while working.
When Shu Chen finished, he connected to the system, his accomplice, and asked, “Was it good? Why haven’t you said anything?”
[Afraid I’d distract you and accidentally get the male lead killed.] For some reason, the system’s voice sounded somewhat strained.
Shu Chen got off the bed, picked up the ointment left by the medical cultivator, and kindly applied it to the male lead’s chest.
The cool ointment paired with soft fingertips made the male lead flinch violently, then, after realizing what had happened, he quickly returned to a normal state.
Shu Chen didn’t call him out on it. After applying the medicine, he finally felt a bit sleepy.
He placed the ointment by the male lead’s pillow and said, “I’ll allow you to sleep here for one night.”
Hearing this, the male lead opened his eyes, his deep gaze fixed on him. “Then I suppose I should thank you.”
Shu Chen draped the blanket over his strong, powerful frame and smiled. “You’re welcome.”
Xiao Nian turned his head away and muttered a low curse. “Damn it!”
The male lead had been tormented quite a bit tonight, and Shu Chen mentally noted the curse word as a debt to be settled later.
“Sweet dreams.”
“Wait.” Xiao Nian called out to the little freak who was done playing and about to leave, for the first time.
Shu Chen turned around. “What?”
Xiao Nian moved his fingers. “Did you forget something?”
Shu Chen played dumb. “Did I? No, I don’t think so.”
Xiao Nian gritted his teeth in frustration. “You don’t want your hair tie back?”
Shu Chen: “I don’t trust you. It’s better to leave it on you.” Stop pretending it’s not like you can’t untie it.
Xiao Nian lowered his gaze for a moment, then smiled at the departing Shu Chen. “Then I wish you sweet dreams too.”
Half an hour later, Xiao Nian untied the restraints on his hands and feet, got off the bed stark naked, walked to the door, and reached out to push it. Then he slammed his fist hard against the door. One punch, and there wasn’t even a ripple.
The little freak never used any of the spells he’d learned for anything legitimate.
In a way, the male lead, who came to the door wearing nothing at all, knew Shu Chen well enough to predict he’d block him here.
Unable to get out, he could only go back to sleep, conserve his strength, and face the little freak tomorrow.
Shu Chen, who hadn’t felt sleepy until the early hours, and the male lead, who had deliberately rested up, were both still in bed by the time of the next day’s si hour (9-11 AM).
Su Yang, who had rushed back in the middle of the night, stood outside the courtyard and said to her husband, puzzled, “Did they stay up really late last night?”
Shu Chi turned his head away. “I don’t know.”
