Reborn as an Alpha and Still Wanting to Engage in Lesbian Relationships - Chapter 32.2
Looking back now, Jiang Man realized she had been captivated not by the older girls themselves, but by the red armbands they wore.
Though she had only said it offhand, Wen Qing took it to heart.
From the start of high school, Wen Qing had balanced her busy schedule at the research institute with a determined effort to compete for the position of student council president.
In the end, she achieved her goal and donned the red armband. But the fickle-hearted Jiang Man had completely forgotten what she had once said!
After giving her instructions, the dean turned and saw Jiang Man straighten up, waving cheerfully at her with a grin.
No one could stay stern in the face of such cuteness not even the strictest dean. She simply walked over, tapped Jiang Man’s forehead lightly, and said with a smile, “Jiang Man, I know you two have grown up together and are close. But even so, you should maintain some distance and not get too intimate with Wen Qing.”
Tapped on the forehead, Jiang Man immediately put on a serious expression and vowed, “Don’t worry, teacher! My sister and I are as close as siblings from different mothers!”
Seeing her feign innocence, the dean couldn’t help but shake her head and chuckle softly.
She turned to Wen Qing and gave her a few reminders as well before leaving with her work ledger.
The tables brought over for the orientation needed to be returned to the storage room. Jiang Man rolled up her sleeves and volunteered to help.
A few tables were moved in no time.
With no teachers around and the dim, shadowy storage room setting the mood, even the presence of the stern-faced president, Wen Qing, couldn’t stop the restless energy among the teenagers.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd spoke up quietly, feigning mystery: “Have you all heard the story about this school’s storage room?”
Curiosity piqued, everyone perked up their ears.
The person let out a deliberately eerie chuckle and lowered their voice, drawing out the words: “They say this place is a favorite suicide spot for same-sex AA and OO couples in love.”
“Decades ago, relationships between AAs, OOs, ABs, and OBs were still illegal. Everyone who awakened and differentiated was forcibly taken to a place called the ‘Tower.’ Under the Tower’s mandatory matching system, if two people’s compatibility exceeded 85%, they were forcibly paired as partners.”
Someone couldn’t resist asking, “If it was forced, that means they didn’t love each other. Why didn’t they resist?”
The one who started the topic shook their head mysteriously. “Because they couldn’t.”
“That ‘Tower’ had control over all the world’s armed resources. Once your differentiation results were recorded and you were marked as unmarried or widowed, the Tower’s armed forces would forcibly take you away.”
“The only way out was to complete a full marking and bear one to three children.”
“Medical technology back then was quite primitive. Forget the marker cleansing that’s commonplace now even suppressants were dangerous, expensive items only available on the black market!”
Upon hearing this, the group couldn’t help but gasp in shock.
Jiang Man stared intently and nervously at the speaker, pressing further, “But what does that have to do with this place being a lovers’ suicide hotspot?”
The speaker glanced at Jiang Man, chuckled, and stopped beating around the bush: “Back in the ‘Tower,’ Alphas and Omegas were housed separately, in two different dormitories. But since everyone detained there was miserable, and they saw their roommates who shared the exact same plight day in and day out, it was easy to develop empathy.”
“Over time, one thing led to another.”
After finishing in one breath, the speaker looked curiously at the group. “Haven’t you ever wondered why our school enforces strict military-style management and has so many locked areas?”
“It’s because our school’s predecessor was the ‘Tower’!”
Jiang Man was stunned.
This was the first time she had heard such a secret! Instinctively, she turned to Wen Qing whose family had made their fortune in medical equipment for confirmation.
Wen Qing nodded. “What she said is true, but there are some exaggerations.”
Jiang Man couldn’t resist asking, “Then what was the actual situation?”
Wen Qing thought for a moment and replied succinctly, “Rather than a forced matching machine, the ‘Tower’ functioned more like a massive conversion therapy camp.”
Jiang Man tilted her head in confusion. Wen Qing sighed and elaborated: “Back then, humanity had just survived a mysterious viral purge, and the population had plummeted. To ensure human numbers, relationships like Alpha-Alpha pairings were strictly forbidden, but cold, hard laws couldn’t extinguish the flames of love.”
“Moreover, whether out of genuine foolishness or feigned ignorance, the authorities placed Alphas and Omegas with same-sex tendencies together with others of the same sex.”
“Although the ‘Tower’ ultimately succeeded in boosting the population, after its collapse, same-sex relationships sprouted up like bamboo shoots after rain. And at their weddings, couples specifically expressed gratitude to the ‘Tower’ for providing a massive matchmaking platform.”
“By that time, the Wen family’s marker-cleansing technology had matured, and suppressants, once only available on the black market, became officially endorsed products.”
Hearing this, the previously grim and dark history suddenly took on a comical twist.
It was like seeing the stern, gloomy Aunt Wen Yu suddenly dressed in a frilly skirt, wearing clown makeup, and performing acrobatics.
Jiang Man’s eyes curved into smiles as she covered her mouth, giggling “fufufu.”
Wen Qing watched her for a moment, then averted her gaze to the club members behind Jiang Man, her voice returning to its usual cool tone: “It’s getting late. Head back to your dorms and try out the equipment. Don’t be late for the opening ceremony tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
The club members chorused in unison, sneakily waving goodbye to Jiang Man before scurrying off.
Watching them dash away, Jiang Man bounced over to Wen Qing’s side and watched her lock the warehouse door.
A streak of fiery clouds still hung on the horizon as the two walked side by side.
After a long silence, Wen Qing stopped and fixed her emerald eyes intently on Jiang Man.
“Manman, what do you think about those same-sex relationships?”
“?”
Jiang Man was caught off guard by the question.
What did she think?
Teacher, this question is a bit beyond the scope for us peonies who in our past lives only dared to drop our pants for virtual waifus online, yet actually never even held a little girl’s hand before we died.
Who would have thought that in this lifetime, people could be divided into three types A, B, and O and that as long as an A isn’t paired with another A, it doesn’t count as same-sex love!
Wen Qing looked at Jiang Man’s scrunched-up, conflicted face as she scratched her cheek.
Her originally cool, jade-green eyes dimmed as Wen Qing lowered her gaze, her voice soft and detached. “I understand.”
Manman just doesn’t like and can’t stand, the idea of being in love with an alpha.
Jiang Man tilted her head, looking utterly confused. “I haven’t even said anything yet, what do you understand?”
Since it was Wen Qing’s question, Jiang Man didn’t even think of brushing it off.
Resting her chin, still carrying a hint of baby fat, Jiang Man furrowed her brows and thought seriously.
After a long pause, she spoke with a touch of uncertainty, “I actually don’t really get why two alphas in love would be considered same-sex love.”
“Anyway, no matter what letters are paired together, love is love. Why bother with all these labels, titles, and categories?”
“If they’re in love, they’re in love, no need for prefixes. They’re simply in love.”
After a long silence, Wen Qing’s voice tightened slightly. “Then would Manman be with an alpha?”
Jiang Man shook her head honestly. “I don’t know.”
“Maybe I’ll only know once I meet that person!”
“Right.” Wen Qing smiled against the light, making it impossible for Jiang Man to see the expression on her face. “You’ll only know when you meet them.”
But what if, “by accident,” they never got to meet?
From Sunflower Class all the way to Class 2-A, the four members of the Guan Zai F4 had never been separated.
Even though by now, aside from Jiang Man, the other three had already presented their secondary genders, as long as Jiang Man didn’t present as an omega, the four of them could live together throughout high school without any issues.
As soon as they returned to the dorm, the moment the door was pushed open, two human-shaped puppies pounced with an “Awoo!”
Wen Qing was prepared. She wrapped an arm around Jiang Man’s waist, pulling her swiftly into the room, leaving the other two to crash into each other in the hallway with a loud thud.
As the hottest top idol and the photographer chased by countless celebrities for photos, Fang Jin and Mu Qian, “bruised and battered,” ignored the onlookers in the hallway, sauntered back into the room, and slammed the door shut.
Once inside, under Wen Qing’s murderous glare, the two clung to Jiang Man’s legs and began wailing dramatically.
“Manzai! Godmother! Mama!”
Each holding onto one of Jiang Man’s legs, they cried out, “We beg you, lend us Chairwoman Wen’s homework to copy!”
Jiang Man shook her left leg Fang Jin held on tight. She shook her right leg Mu Qian held on just as firmly.
If someone recorded their current state with a light-brain and sold it to the paparazzi, Jiang Man could achieve a small taste of financial freedom.
“Why don’t you ask her instead?” Jiang Man said helplessly. “She’s the one who supervised me doing my homework.”
Hearing this, the two immediately straightened up, sitting cross-legged properly in front of Jiang Man. “Godmother, we beg you to bestow your homework upon your humble servants.”
Lifting her gaze, she saw Fang Jin, who had spent the whole summer running around and had turned dark; glancing sideways, she saw Mu Qian, who looked like a “wandering artist.”
Wen Qing let out a light laugh, pulling both her and Manman’s homework out of her backpack and waving it. “Not begging me now?”
Copying from one shared source, how could that be faster than each having their own to copy from?
Fang Jin was quick to adapt to the situation, turning to Wen Qing with a respectful bow: “Second Godmother!”
Every time a holiday began or was about to end, this scene would replay with the same four individuals, now at different ages.
But each time Jiang Man witnessed it, she would laugh so hard she could barely stand straight.
Wen Qing tossed the homework to them and stealthily made her way to Jiang Man’s side.
The scent of mint and bamboo leaves, her pheromones, quietly enveloped the girl who was leaning against her, laughing. On the girl’s wrist, a small snake disguised as a jade bracelet stirred almost imperceptibly.
Though Wen Qing’s gland had been damaged, the Wen family had built their fortune on medical expertise, how could they allow their heir to become a useless being, neither Alpha, Beta, nor Omega?
After long-term training and treatment, Wen Qing had gained precise control over the intensity and concentration of her pheromones.
It was a pity Jiang Man hadn’t presented yet; otherwise, she would have realized that every strand of her hair was enveloped by Wen Qing’s pheromones.
While Fang Jin and Mu Qian were burning the midnight oil at their desks, Jiang Man and Wen Qing had already tidied up the bedding for all four of them.
Having been in school for a year, they were well aware that snacks weren’t checked on the first day of registration. They had brought just enough for the four of them to share for dinner.
Jiang Man was a foodie who wanted to taste everything.
Normally, Fang Jin and Mu Qian would have joined her to help finish the snacks. But tonight, their time was precious it determined whether they would make it to class the next day. Buried in their work, they had no time to share snacks with Jiang Man.
Fortunately, Jiang Man still had Wen Qing!
Waving Wen Qing over, Jiang Man held the snack bag and whispered softly into her ear, “Little sister, let’s share these, okay?”
Her warm breath brushed against the fair skin of the girl’s ear, instantly turning it a deep crimson.
Wen Qing subtly tucked her hair behind her ear, covering the blush that spread to the tips, and nodded calmly.
Jiang Man, who always watched her figure, didn’t eat much, and most of the snacks ended up in Wen Qing’s stomach.
After climbing into bed, Jiang Man sneakily took a photo of Fang Jin and Mu Qian still studying under the lamplight and posted it on the StarNet before falling asleep, satisfied.
The next morning, Jiang Man was awakened by Fang and Mu.
Their dark circles, hanging almost to their chins, paired with their pale faces, made them look like ghosts returned from the dead, giving everyone a fright.
Glancing at the homework books carelessly spread across the desk, Jiang Man couldn’t help but choke up for a moment.
“Don’t tell me, you two really stayed up all night?”
