- Chapter 30.1 - Green Jinjin Kindergarten
The entrance of Green Jinjin Kindergarten was as plain and unadorned as its outdated website even a bit behind the times. While other kindergartens had upgraded to sparkling gates, fully intelligent AI security guards, and one-touch scanning entry systems, Green Jinjin Kindergarten clung to its mottled, uneven green gate, an old-fashioned guard booth, and an auntie security guard.
Having seen countless flashy kindergartens, Jiang Man felt a sudden disorientation upon encountering such a rustic one, as if she had traveled back to a previous lifetime.
Before she could sink into bewilderment, Fang Jin and Mu Qian arrived as well.
The four little ones immediately huddled together affectionately upon meeting, chattering noisily like a trio of lively beagles.
They were brimming with anticipation for today’s interview.
If all went well, this would be the place where they would study until advancing to elementary school!
Gazing at the weathered school gate, Jiang Man, well-versed in the principle of hidden masters in plain sight, felt a surge of hope for the learning journey about to unfold.
According to Green Jinjin Kindergarten’s requirements, from the moment the children arrived at the gate, they had to rely on themselves for everything. Parents could accompany them but were not allowed to intervene.
Jiang Man glanced at her little companions, puffed out her chest like a big sister, and decided to take the lead.
The first task was to ask the security auntie to open the gate and let them in.
Jiang Man led her friends, trotting briskly to the guard booth. She strained on tiptoe, half her body leaning against the edge of the booth, and tapped on the glass window, calling out sweetly, “Auntie!”
Hearing the children’s voices, the auntie inside the security room set aside her work, walked over, and slid the window open.
“Hello, Auntie! We’re here for the interview. Can we come in, please?”
The little one’s chubby chin rested on her hands, her round, sparkling eyes making her look even more adorable.
Anyone’s mood would brighten upon encountering such well-behaved children.
“Of course you can,” the security auntie replied with a smile as she opened the gate for them.
First hurdle cleared smoothly and without a hitch.
Though Green Jinjin Kindergarten’s gate appeared shabby, the interior was a different world altogether.
A neatly maintained sandpit and a gleaming small playground immediately caught Fang Jin’s attention, causing her to stray from the group several times.
“No, Fang Jin, we’re here for the interview,” Mu Qian insisted, firmly gripping Fang Jin’s sleeve and steering her back on track each time.
After walking down a long corridor, the children paused, faced with three identical paths, and fell into thought.
The three directions looked nearly the same, with no discernible differences at a glance.
Just as the little team’s progress stalled, Mu Qian stepped forward.
The other three watched in confusion as Mu Qian approached the paths, examined them carefully, and then returned.
“Let’s go this way,” Mu Qian said, pointing to the right-hand path. “The other two are holographic projections.”
Seeing that Jiang Man and Fang Jin still looked bewildered, Mu Qian sighed inwardly at her clueless companions.
She dashed over to the other two paths, ran her hands along the walls, and deactivated the two projections, revealing their true forms.
If the children hadn’t been paying attention, they would have walked straight into these disguised walls and bumped their heads hard!
Basking in her friends’ admiring gazes, Mu Qian puffed out her chest without a hint of pride.
Continuing along the corridor on the right-hand side, the little ones stopped in front of a shabby door labeled “Principal’s Office.”
The four children cautiously pressed their ears against the door, trying to listen for any sounds inside. Whether it was due to the door’s excellent soundproofing or the absolute silence within, they couldn’t detect even the faintest noise.
Carefully pulling away from the door, the four children exchanged glances.
Knock, knock!
Jiang Man gently tapped on the office door. No one answered from inside, but the door creaked open on its own.
The scene instantly reminded Jiang Man of numerous horror movies she had seen.
A chill ran from the tips of her toes to the top of her head, and she shivered, hugging herself tightly.
“Don’t be scared, Manman.”
Noticing Jiang Man’s hesitation, Wen Qing stepped forward, shielding the little ones.
The four children huddled together, cautiously pushed the office door open, and carefully shuffled inside.
The room was pitch black and utterly silent. Having been reborn and now deeply believing in supernatural phenomena, Jiang Man nervously shrank behind Wen Qing.
Just as the children began to let their guard down, a faint, eerie voice sounded behind them, “Are you the little ones here for the interview?”
Jiang Man, like a startled puppy, leaped up with a “Duang” and buried herself in Wen Qing’s arms, trembling uncontrollably.
With a sharp whoosh, the curtains in the dark office were pulled open, and bright sunlight flooded the room.
Still trembling with fear, Jiang Man cautiously peeked at the person who had spoken.
A gentle-looking elderly woman stood by the window, smiling warmly at them. “Hello, little darlings. I am the principal of the Green Jinjin Kindergarten.”
“I’m delighted that you’ve passed all the challenges and made it here to meet me. Would you like to introduce yourselves?”
Still nestled in her friend’s arms, Jiang Man warily glanced at the shadow cast by the self-proclaimed principal.
Hmm, it was dark and moved exactly as the principal did.
Only then did Jiang Man relax slightly. Seeing her clueless companions, she decided to take the lead as an example.
“Me name Jiang Man, like pretty sisters and mommy, hate eat beans.”
Wen Qing followed suit, then Mu Qian and Fang Jin.
The three other children meticulously followed the template Jiang Man had provided, sharing no additional information beyond what she had said.
Looking at the four chubby little ones, the kind principal narrowed her eyes in a smile. The parents, who had been waiting outside the office for some time, quickly entered and stood behind the children as the principal gestured.
Gazing at the well-behaved, adorable, clever, and united children, the principal’s smile never faded. Turning to the parents behind them, her voice brimmed with barely concealed joy, “You are exceptional parents, raising such wonderful and outstanding children.”
Hearing this, the parents humbly waved their hands in modesty, though they couldn’t help feeling a little proud inside.
Looking at the parents, who seemed like enlarged versions of the children, the principal’s smile deepened. She pulled four admission letters from a drawer and handed them to the children. “Welcome to our kindergarten. The school year begins on September 1st. I hope you will all arrive as scheduled.”
In stark contrast to the dilapidated kindergarten gate and the principal’s office door, the Green Jinjin admission letters were exceptionally beautiful.
The light green stationery was adorned with gilded lettering and embellished with delicate, unnamed little flowers.
The four little ones huddled together, examining their nearly identical kindergarten admission notices with subtle differences. At the top of each form were freshly handwritten characters.
Jiang Man, curious, held up her own notice and pattered over to ask: “Auntie Principal, are these our names?”
The principal smiled with crescent-shaped eyes at the adorable child. “Yes, indeed. Little Man is so clever.”
From birth until now, Jiang Man had received no shortage of praise.
But being complimented by an elegant, scholarly auntie like the principal made Jiang Man somewhat shy. With rosy cheeks, she clutched her admission notice and dashed back to her little friends.
On her way back, Jiang Man repeatedly turned over the notice bearing her name, examining it from all angles.
This was her first time attending the legendary kindergarten, a place filled with many peers her age, where teachers would guide them in recognizing characters, singing songs, and eating meals together!
Finally, she wouldn’t have to cling to tattered textbooks, taking turns sitting beside much older children, listening to lessons she couldn’t understand.
Seeing how much Jiang Man cherished the notice, as soon as they returned home, the highly skilled Jiang Feng personally laminated and framed it, hanging it in the most prominent spot at home. Beside it was Wen Qing’s admission notice.
Later, when the leaves turned yellow, a photo was taken of the four little ones dressed in identical school uniforms, wearing small yellow hats, standing at the worn and weathered kindergarten entrance.
On the first day of school, Jiang Man, sporting her little yellow hat and carrying a small backpack, proudly held Wen Qing’s hand as they stepped through the school gate.
Each of the four little ones had their own unique charm, but Wen Qing stood out her beauty seemed to exist on an entirely different plane.
The moment she appeared, Wen Qing captured the attention of many children.
The two little ones accompanying them watched the starstruck children and couldn’t help shaking their heads and clicking their tongues.
So foolish, all so foolish.
Yet another group of silly children bewitched by a pretty face!
Once they got to know Wen Qing for a while, they’d soon realize what a two-faced little troublemaker she truly was!
Having already seen through Wen Qing, the two seasoned youngsters watched the mesmerized children with an air of profound wisdom.
They observed as a bold child stepped forward, cheeks flushed, shyly extending a hand to Wen Qing and stammering, “H-hi, you so pretty, can we be friends?”
WOW!
Jiang Man watched the scene of Wen Qing being approached like an excited spectator, her eyes sparkling as she stood to the side, eagerly observing their interaction.
“No.”
Jiang Man watched as the beautiful Wen Qing decisively refused, then “timidly” burrowed into her arms, claiming she was scared.
Hiss.
Holding the pitifully adorable girl and glancing at the teary-eyed child who had just been rejected, Jiang Man felt that something wasn’t quite right.
Hmm… exactly what felt off, Jiang Man couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
Fang Jin and Mu Qian, watching Wen Qing’s “frightened” act, knew all too well that she was putting on another performance.
That little Wen Qing was quite the schemer. No wonder they weren’t surprised by her swift rejection of that child she hadn’t even bothered to pretend.
It was all because, the moment they entered, Man Man had casually remarked about a relatively cute child in the crowd, saying, “So pretty~”
That single comment had sealed that child’s fate doomed to never receive a friendly glance from Wen Qing again.
Fang Jin and Mu Qian exchanged a look, sighing and shaking their heads in unison.
On the very first day of school, all the parents of the little ones found out:
There was an incredibly adorable little one at the kindergarten today, so cute!
But her temper was quite bad. Even when she wasn’t hurt at all, she would cry in front of the second cutest and most charming little one, not the least bit shy about it.
And she was fierce too! She only allowed two other little ones to play with that super cute little one, while she angrily chased away any other kids who tried to befriend the charming one.
By the end of the first day, Wen Qing’s reputation among the children had shifted from “that super pretty little one” to “that two-faced little one who loves to act pitiful in front of the cute one.”
Her reputation had taken a sharp turn, presenting a stark contrast to how she was perceived earlier that morning.
When it came to picking up the little ones after school, the decisive Director Jiang had an unusual obsession, she had to be the very first parent to pick up her child from the entire kindergarten!
For several days in a row, rain or shine, Jiang Feng would proudly announce to the teacher in front of all the children, “Hello, I’m Manzai’s mother, and I’ll be taking Wen Qing home as well.”
This kind of behavior might have been a bit embarrassing for elementary or middle schoolers, but for Jiang Man, who was technically one year old but mentally in her teens.
It was good, great, absolutely wonderful!
