- Chapter 27.1 - The Show Ends
The soft glow of candlelight illuminated the chubby face of the little one, who had clasped her hands together in devout prayer.
Under the loving gazes of everyone, the little one opened her round, bright eyes. The flickering candle flames reflected in her eyes, like countless stars from the Milky Way falling into her gaze.
“Pfft!”
Jiang Man, clutching her little hands, pursed her lips and blew out the candles with all her might.
At the exact moment the candlelight vanished, the lights turned on, and a chubby little hand covered the child’s eyes.
“Pop!”
Countless streamers flew into the air. The hand shielding the little one’s eyes was removed, and Jiang Man, tilting her head back, watched the colorful streamers fall, unable to resist reaching out to catch them.
A moment later, as they saw the little one buried under the streamers, everyone suddenly snapped back to reality.
“Quick, quick, save the baby!”
If the streamers represented love, the little birthday girl, overwhelmed by affection, was promptly dug out by the loving hands of those around her.
A few streamers were still tangled in the small crown on her head, but Jiang Man showed no fear. Grasping the streamers, she flashed a big smile at her mother, who was holding the camera.
The flash went off, capturing the adorable scene of the little one surrounded by her friends.
Each of the little ones only got a small piece of the cake, which was said to have been made by Wen Qing herself, so Jiang Man savored every bite with extra care.
But a toddler’s hands never quite obey, and no matter how careful she tried to be, sweet, delicious cream ended up smeared around her mouth.
After meticulously finishing the last bit of cream, the little one smacked her lips, gazing wistfully at the now-empty cake plate.
As a seasoned little one who had already attended her friends’ first birthday grab ceremonies, Manman the Great was quite familiar with the next steps after finishing the cake.
However, the items prepared for each child’s grab ceremony were different, and Jiang Man couldn’t help but feel excited, wondering what her mother and mom would prepare for her own grab ceremony!
Like a little princess, her eyes sparkled with anticipation as she lifted her chubby face to watch the busy maids preparing the venue.
Huh?
Seeing the maids place two red velvet carpets on the small stage in the living room, the little one tilted her head in confusion.
Suddenly, a small hand grasped hers, and she turned to look.
A beautiful child with dewy eyes stared intently at Jiang Man. “Manman, can I do the grab ceremony with you?”
?…!
“Of course you can!” Jiang Man excitedly hugged her little friend.
With her companion by her side, she could discuss and deliberate whenever she felt indecisive!
Jiang Man affectionately nuzzled Wen Qing’s cheek, her face beaming with joy, which finally eased the worries of the mastermind behind the scenes, the producer.
“Observing the Little Ones Diary” had been airing for over half a year, and in a few months, the four little ones would gradually start kindergarten.
Though reluctant to let go of the show’s popularity, for the sake of the children’s happy learning journey, the producer painfully scrapped her original plans.
For the grab ceremony, the producer had actually prepared two options.
The live broadcast version had ended last night after Liu Ying and the others returned. Today, only the recorded version remained.
If Manman was unwilling, the scene of her refusal would be edited out, and only her personal birthday special and grab ceremony special would be aired. If Manman was willing to hold the ceremony with Wen Qing, that would be even better!
But if Manzai really refused, the producer could empathize.
Imagine being forced by your boss and investors to spend your birthday with someone else. The producer thought about it and felt her blood pressure would skyrocket.
In comparison, Manzai seemed even more like an angel baby!
Biting the corner of her handkerchief, the producer watched with teary eyes as the four little ones, whom the entire crew had practically watched grow up sat before them.
All gatherings must come to an end. After today’s filming, the once-popular Watching the Babies Diary would also draw to a close, destined to become a cherished memory for a generation years later.
But that was a matter for the future. Right now, the most important thing was to watch Manzai and Qingzai participate in their Zhuazhou ceremony!
On two soft, comfortable red carpets, the two little ones sat right in the center, surrounded by a circle of small objects.
Jiang Man sat in the middle, curiously examining the items around her.
Although there were some overlaps, the Zhuazhou items for the two babies were largely different.
Around Wen Qing were mostly medical-related objects, like syringes and glass test tubes, while Jiang Man’s selection was dazzlingly varied.
A microphone, tiny dance shoes, an electronic keyboard, paintbrushes and Jiang Feng had even placed a business proposal and a small gold ingot among them!
The little one, wearing a small crown, looked at the surrounding items and felt troubled.
How annoying! The greedy King Manman wanted to be a little emperor and stuff everything into her pockets!
Even so, the little miser’s eyes were glued to the gold ingot.
She glanced at the gold ingot, then at the paintbrush; at the gold ingot, then at the dance shoes repeating the cycle over and over. Even the crew from the logistics department could see the little one’s money-loving nature.
The clueless adults, taking advantage of King Manman’s distraction, covered their mouths and chuckled softly.
They only thought King Manman was a little miser, completely unaware of the inner turmoil she was experiencing!
In textbooks, it only took Xiao Ming five minutes to walk to the children’s palace, but in her previous life, Jiang Man had walked for seventeen or eighteen years without ever catching a glimpse of the children’s palace’s entrance.
But this life was different!
In this life, her loving mother and mama were both multitalented individuals. There was no need for Manzai to walk to the children’s palace they could teach her everything at home!
Finally, under everyone’s watchful eyes, the chubby little one made a move.
But she only touched the items, unable to decide.
The greedy little one wanted everything!
Looking at the dazzling array of items around her, Jiang Man felt that none of them were quite right for her.
The thing that suited her wasn’t here.
Everyone watched as the little one, who had seemed so determined just moments ago, plopped back down and began hesitating again.
No one rushed her. They all watched quietly, respecting her and waiting for her choice.
Knock, knock!
A knocking sound came from the door, and the maid snapped out of her thoughts to answer it.
A unfamiliar, beautiful woman entered, holding a white-bound script, and walked over to Liu Ying’s agent, Sun Miao, whispering a few words to her.
Sun Miao nodded, took the script, and walked over.
Before Sun Miao could hand the script to Liu Ying, the little one sitting on the red carpet suddenly lit up.
“Auntie!”
The little one’s short legs burst with surprising speed, and she dashed toward Sun Miao like a beautiful little cannonball.
Sun Miao was startled by the little one dressed as a COS cannonball, but she stood her ground, afraid the child might fall.
Jiang Man ran over to Auntie Sun Miao, raised her tiny hands, and gently tugged at the corner of the script, her smile radiant.
“So, what’s this?”
Sun Miao looked down at the little one straining on tiptoe to hold the script, a bit puzzled. “Is this like a Zhuazhou ceremony?”
“Yes!” the little one replied loudly to Auntie Sun Miao. “Manman picked it herself!”
Unable to resist, Sun Miao picked up Manman, who clutched the script tightly in both hands, it had just been delivered by an assistant.
Sun Miao couldn’t help teasing her, “Manman, don’t you love golden ingots? Why didn’t you choose the golden ingot and picked this instead? Do you even know what this is?”
“I know,” Jiang Man replied obediently, sitting snugly in Auntie Sun Miao’s arms. “Manman likes the script more. The script is Mommy’s work.”
Afraid Sun Miao wouldn’t understand her, Jiang Man even freed one hand to mimic holding a camera, pretending to press the shutter a few times while adding her own sound effects.
The adorable antics of the little one made everyone burst into laughter.
Sun Miao, being the closest, got to hold Manman first. She hugged the child tightly, her voice unconsciously softening as she cooed, “You’re so adorable, Manman~”
Poor Jiang Man’s protests were in vain as her chubby cheeks were squished out of shape by Auntie Sun Miao.
After cuddling and doting on the little one to her heart’s content, Sun Miao finally set her down.
Without even bothering to straighten her little dress, Jiang Man lifted the hem, grabbed the script, and hurried behind her mother. Peeking out cautiously, she revealed half of her face, still flushed from Sun Miao’s affectionate rubbing.
“Pfft, hahaha!”
The producers couldn’t hold back their laughter, watching the rejected Sun Miao with amusement.
But the most pleasantly surprised person about the little one’s Zhuazhou ceremony, where she so decisively chose the script, was Liu Ying.
The gentle and lovely woman crouched down, her peach-scented aura softly enveloping the child.
Gazing at the precious baby she had carried for ten months and given birth to naturally, Liu Ying wore a faint smile as she tidied the little one’s appearance. “Manman, do you really like acting?”
Jiang Man, still clutching the script, sat obediently while her mother fixed her up. But upon hearing the question, she nodded vigorously.
“Like it!”
The little one, nourished anew by love, expressed her feelings without a hint of shyness: “Manman likes acting! It’s fun!”
Looking at her gentle and beautiful mother, Jiang Man wanted to count off her acting experiences on her fingers, but she was still just a little one who mixed up her pronunciations and couldn’t distinguish between flat and retroflex sounds.
After struggling for a while, all she could manage was to gaze into her mother’s honey-like eyes and say, “Manman really, really likes it!”
Though her vocabulary was limited, everyone could sense the little one’s genuine fondness for acting.
The dark lens of the camera focused diligently on the adorable little princess, faithfully recording the lively chaos of her Zhuazhou ceremony.
With Jiang Man’s Zhuazhou ceremony now complete, she was picked up by her mother and placed among the other little ones, staying by her wife’s side to watch the next child.
Like Jiang Man, Wen Qing was also struggling to make a decision.
But upon closer look, there was a slight difference between the two.
Unlike the greedy little ruler Jiang Man, who wanted everything, Wen Qing seemed unimpressed by any of the options.
Whether it was collective rights, promises of personal assets, or shares in a top-tier research institute that outsiders would fight tooth and nail for but still might not secure, Wen Qing glanced over them all with indifference, showing no interest.
The patience of a real toddler is limited. While waiting for Jiang Man, she could sit quietly and still, but when it was Wen Qing’s turn, Fang Jin and Mu Qian seemed to have grown teeth in their bottoms, wriggling left and right.
Fang Jin and Mu Qian were held in their mothers’ arms at the edge of the stage, leaving only Jiang Man, her chubby face tilted upward, waiting earnestly for Wen Qing to make her choice.
