Reborn as an Alpha and Still Wanting to Engage in Lesbian Relationships - Chapter 25.2
Jiang Feng pinched the pouting lips into a little duck’s bill, chuckling as she earned a fiery glare from the baby.
Carried by her mischievous mother, Jiang Man waved obediently at the elders on the light brain screen. “Bye-bye, Great-grandmas! Bye-bye, Grandmas!”
Jiang Man wasn’t a grudge-holding little treasure except when it came to her mischievous mother. However, she was a thin-skinned little one. The moment she remembered how she had cried yesterday because she failed to comfort Wangwang and her little sister, a blush of embarrassment spread across her plump, fair cheeks.
So embarrassing, utterly embarrassing!
Burying her face in her mother’s neck, Jiang Man tried to escape reality.
Not only had she, a pseudo-little one, failed to comfort two real little ones, but she had ended up crying herself to sleep! This incident was definitely going on her list of lifelong embarrassing memories!
Noticing the baby’s evasive gesture, Jiang Feng paused on her way to the villa.
Standing still, she gently pulled the blushing little one out of her embrace. Looking into the baby’s flushed face and eyes, Director Jiang asked seriously, “Manzai, do you want to see Wangwang and the others?”
The little one’s eyes were moist, and she unconsciously nibbled on her plump lips, clearly torn.
Though it was her first time being a mother, Director Jiang was no stranger to being a child. Putting herself in the baby’s shoes, her usual stern expression softened entirely as she patiently waited for the little one’s answer.
Jiang Man was deeply conflicted.
Yesterday’s behavior had been far too childish, making self-proclaimed mature adult Manman the Great feel utterly embarrassed and unsure how to face her little friends.
Although Jiang Man knew her little friends probably wouldn’t laugh at her, she still couldn’t quite overcome her inner embarrassment.
During the pause while waiting for the young child to make her decision, the work communicator in Jiang Feng’s pocket lit up. She pulled it out and glanced at it, then said softly, “Manzai, Yuanyuan and Wangwang are leaving this afternoon.”
What?!
The little child snapped out of her thoughts and looked up abruptly.
Jiang Feng’s voice remained gentle as she asked for the child’s opinion: “Manzai, do you want to see them off?”
Admittedly, Yuanyuan, Wangwang, and even Wen Qing hadn’t done anything wrong.
It was just that Jiang Man was too concerned about saving face, feeling that a nearly-grown girl crying in front of little children was somewhat embarrassing.
Jiang Man pursed her lips in thought. After a long, long while, she finally nodded while sitting in her mother’s arms.
“Woo! Manzai!”
No sooner had Jiang Man nodded than four little ones, who had been waiting who knows how long shouted her nickname and rushed out from behind the haystack by the door, running toward her.
The thought that her earlier conflicted expression might have been seen by her friends made Jiang Man instinctively want to burrow back into her mother’s embrace.
But this time, her mother wouldn’t let her escape, firmly placing her on the lush green grass.
Two older and two younger children surrounded the shy little one, holding hands and encircling Jiang Man, spinning around her with giggles and laughter.
They spun for as long as Jiang Man’s face remained flushed. By the time she finally let go of her reservations, the four silly kids were already dizzy.
It was unclear which one lost balance first, wobbling and sitting down, knocking over the child beside them.
In moments, the four little ones performed the world’s smallest domino effect toddler edition for Jiang Man.
Stars seeming to spin above their heads, the dazed children looked up at Jiang Man only to find Wen Qing had somehow appeared beside her.
The pretty little one nimbly stepped over the toddler domino chain, approaching Jiang Man. Her slightly upturned eyes gazed at Jiang Man with a mixture of timidity and sparkle.
Hesitating for a long while, the pretty child finally made up her mind, inching closer to Jiang Man before timidly grabbing her hand: “Manman, I…”
Before Wen Qing could finish, Chairman Jiang who wore a strained smile and seemed enormous to the children grabbed her by the collar and lifted her, placing her a good distance away from Jiang Man.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Jiang Feng’s smile looked rather eerie as she stared at the one who had made Manzai cry. “Manzai hasn’t forgiven you yet! Where are your manners? What’s with all the touching?”
The petty Chairman Jiang planned to give the pretty child a lesson in “love” preferably one so intimidating, no, educational, that she’d flee at the sight of Manzai like a mouse seeing a cat.
But before Chairman Jiang’s educational plan could begin, it was abruptly terminated by a sharp thump on the head from her wife.
“Ouch!”
Jiang Feng released the pretty child’s collar, clutching her throbbing head as she looked up guiltily at her wife approaching against the light.
Clearly unfazed by Jiang Feng’s “lesson,” the pretty child bounced toward Manzai like a rabbit the moment she was released.
Under Jiang Feng’s highly resistant yet powerless gaze, the pretty child firmly grasped Manzai’s hand.
Jiang Man gazed at the pretty girl before her, having just barely escaped the awkwardness. The moment her eyes met Wen Qing’s, yesterday’s embarrassing memories flooded back, and her face instantly flushed crimson.
“Manman, I was wrong,” Wen Qing said, her beautiful eyes fixed intently on Jiang Man’s evasive gaze as she leaned in to nuzzle her cheek. “I’m sorry.”
Jiang Man hadn’t expected that her own shame over crying would make her little sister think it was her fault. The kind-hearted Manzai quickly set aside her embarrassment, shaking her head to correct the misunderstanding.
But Wen Qing seemed stubbornly convinced that it was her own pettiness, jealousy, and unreasonable behavior that had upset Jiang Man.
Both girls firmly took responsibility upon themselves, earnestly searching for faults within.
Yet neither accepted the other’s apology.
“I’m also a baby, and Manman is also a baby,” Wen Qing declared seriously after hearing Jiang Man’s explanation. “Babies crying is super normal.”
Wen Qing’s earnest gaze made Jiang Man unconsciously meet her eyes. Wen Qing didn’t know Jiang Man’s true mental age, nor did she think a child crying was anything to be ashamed of.
Feeling her hand being squeezed tightly by the pretty girl, Jiang Man snapped back to attention as Wen Qing said, “When Manman baby cries, I’ll comfort you.”
Children’s squabbles fade quickly, and reconciliations come just as fast.
In the end, after exchanging apologies, Jiang Man and Wen Qing were soon cuddled up together again.
Nearby, Liu Ying stood with crossed arms, looking down at the dejected Jiang Dong with drooping ears: “Jiang Feng, how old are you? How could you frighten a child like that?”
“Well, she’s the one who made Manzai cry! Our Manzai is so well-behaved she hasn’t cried this hard since she was born.” Jiang Dong muttered softly while crouching on the ground.
Liu Ying didn’t catch it and leaned closer. “What did you say?”
But Jiang Dong knew when to yield, immediately swallowing her words and flashing a charming smile at her wife. “Nothing! I’m so hungry, dear. The kids have already gone inside shall we head back too?”
Being scolded in front of everyone, even the children, didn’t embarrass Jiang Dong in the slightest. After getting her wife’s approval, she stood up and hugged her fragrant wife unabashedly, acting sweet and seeking favor.
To Jiang Feng, being reprimanded by her wife in public was proof of her wife’s love!
Out of all the people in the world, why would her wife only scold her if not out of deep affection and high expectations?
The utterly wife-obsessed Jiang Dong whined pitifully while complaining that her head hurt.
Liu Ying felt a pang of regret and heartache, gently massaging her head while stubbornly insisting she deserved it.
The noon meal was personally prepared by Wen Yu.
As a guest recovering from illness, despite Liu Ying and others’ attempts to dissuade her, she still picked up the spatula in front of Xu Nuo, though her attitude was slightly gentler than usual.
At home, Wen Yu often cooked because Xu Nuo enjoyed it, but even Wen Qing rarely got to taste her mother’s cooking.
Today was an exception.
After returning to her room this morning, Xu Nuo had been absent-minded, as if replaying something in her mind.
As perceptive as ever, Wen Yu immediately noticed something was off. After reviewing her recent actions, she decided to play the obedient card and smooth things over with her suspicious wife first.
Due to Wen Yu’s habit, today’s lunch was served in individual portions. Each person’s meal had been precisely measured and arranged on their plates by her, with everyone’s portions being roughly similar except for Xu Nuo’s.
Compared to Liu Ying and the others, Xu Nuo’s portion stood out: the rice molded into a heart shape, the thoughtfully separated seasonal vegetables, and the exclusive rich soup, all reflected Wen Yu’s careful attention.
But the more it was like this.
Xu Nuo lifted his gaze and looked at his wife sitting across from him.
The moment her beautiful eyes met his, it was as if fireworks bloomed in their depths, stunningly captivating.
Xu Nuo decided that after lunch, he would have a good talk with his beloved.
They had been together for so many years, and Qingzai was about to turn one. If, after all this time, she still hadn’t seen through or truly understood the real face of the person lying beside her, that would be utterly ridiculous.
Holding her spoon, Manman who wasn’t particularly picky once again diligently picked out the green beans, one by one, from her bowl and gave them to her little sister.
Only after the detested beans were gone did Jiang Man nod in satisfaction.
Although Wen Qing rarely got to taste Aunt Wen Yu’s cooking, Jiang Man was no stranger to her meals.
Back when they had stayed at the Wen family’s home, Aunt Wen Yu would always specially prepare a separate, delicious, and carefully made baby meal for Jiang Man, while Wen Qing’s lunch was either formula or a bland baby meal prepared by the nanny.
At the time, Jiang Man had simply thought her little sister was too young to eat “big kid” food and felt sorry for her.
But now, Jiang Man knew the real reason.
Turning her head to look at her sister, who was eating seriously, Jiang Man’s little heart ached with tenderness.
Her sister was so pretty and well-behaved, why didn’t Aunt Wen Yu like her?
So frustrating! She just couldn’t figure it out!
Channeling her frustration into her appetite, the little one scooped up a big mouthful of fragrant rice from her bowl and stuffed it into her mouth.
Perhaps because Wen Yu had joined them, the dining table was unusually quiet compared to the usual warmth and liveliness. Everyone ate their lunch in synchronized silence.
Jiang Man had originally planned to play with Yuan Yuan and Wangwang a little longer after lunch, but she had eaten a bit too much out of frustration. Still clutching her spoon, she began to nod off, her head drooping again and again.
Clatter!
The spoon and bowl in the little one’s grasp fell to the floor. The silent group looked up at the sound and saw the child, still holding a half-eaten noodle in her mouth, fast asleep.
Someone couldn’t hold back a chuckle, followed by a second, then a third.
The previously somber dining table suddenly became lively again.
Jiang Man was woken up again when Yuan Yuan and Wangwang’s mother came to pick them up.
The little one’s dirty face had already been cleaned by her mom, and she had been changed into a fresh set of clothes.
Her memory, much like a broken film, only went as far as her pondering why Aunt Wen Yu didn’t like her sister.
Jiang Man had no idea about the embarrassing scene she had caused during lunch.
It was just as well she didn’t know otherwise, she would have blushed and hidden away in embarrassment.
However, the ultra-high-definition camera fixed to the highchair’s tray had captured every second of the little one’s antics, ready for the current audience to enjoy and for a future Jiang Man to look back on.
Although Yuan Yuan and Wangwang had only stayed for a day and a night, the little ones had already formed a strong bond!
Watching Yuan Yuan and Wangwang prepare to leave, Jiang Man felt a bit reluctant to see them go.
Even though Wangwang always seemed to clash with her sister, Yuan Yuan really knew so many words!
Thinking of her own inability to read even a single character, Jiang Man clenched her little fists:
She, the great Manman, must not grow up to be an illiterate little fool!
Bidding a reluctant farewell to Yuan Yuan and Wangwang, Jiang Man was held by their mother as they took lots and lots of photos together.
It was only later that Jiang Man learned that Yuan Yuan and Wangwang’s mother was actually her biggest fan, no wonder the two had taken such a natural liking to her from the start.
But still…
Hmm, why call it a “chicken leg fan”? Was it because Auntie really liked eating chicken legs?
Confusion from a clueless country bumpkin about celebrity fandom.
