Rebirth: Using Love as an Excuse for Cruelty - Chapter 14
Yu Linfei didn’t know what to say when he saw Su Weixi.
He placed the basket on the table and looked at Su Weixi in silence.
Seeing Yu Linfei so suddenly, Su Weixi was clearly pushing down strong feelings. Although he tried to keep a blank face, his shaking hands showed how uneasy he felt inside.
Yu Linfei and Su Weixi were childhood friends.
They had lived near each other since they were toddlers. Before certain unpleasant things happened, Su Weixi was Yu Linfei’s best friend.
But those unpleasant events had almost destroyed the relationship between them.
The source of all these problems was Baiqing Meng.
Ever since Yu Linfei realized his sexual orientation, he told Su Weixi directly. He knew that even if Su Weixi couldn’t accept it at first, he would never try to hurt him. Su Weixi might even help him when things got tough. After all, they had been together for so many years, and Yu Linfei understood his friend’s personality perfectly.
Unlike Yu Linfei’s fake smiles, Su Weixi was a truly good person.
He was gentle, kind, and a gentleman to everyone. Even if someone did something mean to him, he would try to forgive them if they apologized.
It must be said that this kind of personality faces many struggles in today’s world. But Yu Linfei knew Su Weixi didn’t mind, because in Su Weixi’s mind, as long as his own heart was clear, it was enough.
Would such a bright man, who was like warm sunshine, ever commit suicide? If anyone said that now, Yu Linfei would only treat it as a joke.
But Wen Cheng, who was deep in sleep, knew it was not a joke.
Su Weixi died, right in front of Yu Linfei.
He pulled away from Yu Linfei’s hand as Yu tried to save him. He fell from a tall building like a bird with broken wings. The sight of the tragic red color almost made Yu Linfei jump off the building after him.
At that time, Wen Cheng had just met Yu Linfei and didn’t know much about his friends. He only found out later that Su Weixi died because of a man.
How sad. While Yu Linfei was worried about his own problems, his best friend was going through a disaster he couldn’t survive and eventually gave up on life.
Wen Cheng could guess what Su Weixi had gone through, but he never dared to ask Yu Linfei. During the time after Su Weixi died, Yu Linfei even thought about ending his own life.
Now Wen Cheng didn’t have to worry about these things because he had fainted. Meanwhile, Su Weixi and Yu Linfei were still stuck on a small matter, Baiqing Meng.
Yes, Baiqing Meng. Su Weixi and Yu Linfei had a huge fight because of this young man. Su Weixi, who rarely lost his temper, asked Yu Linfei directly if he wanted him as a friend or if he wanted Baiqing Meng.
Yu Linfei thought Su Weixi was being unreasonable. Since he was deeply in love with Baiqing Meng at the time, he missed the worry and pain in his friend’s eyes. He rested his chin on his hand and said calmly, “Su Weixi, do you know you look like a jealous woman fighting for attention?” Then they started fighting.
After hearing Yu Linfei’s joking words, Su Weixi punched him. Yu Linfei was stunned and then got angry. In his mind, Su Weixi should have known he was joking. If Su Weixi had stayed calm and talked to him about Baiqing Meng, Yu Linfei would never have acted that way.
In the end, Yu Linfei won the fight. His lip was cut and his eye was bruised. He pinned Su Weixi down, looked at his weak face, and asked while panting, “Su Weixi, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Su Weixi didn’t answer; his eyes were just red.
Yu Linfei felt something was wrong but couldn’t explain it. He let go of the friend who had suddenly turned against him. He watched Su Weixi silently fix his clothes and walk away without any expression.
Then Su Weixi went to another country.
He didn’t say a word to Yu Linfei. It was as if he was running away from someone. Su Weixi stayed abroad for nearly a year without a sound. Yu Linfei tried to contact him but heard nothing.
Because of this, Yu Linfei got angry too. Su Weixi was the one who acted crazy first, fought him, and then left the country without a word or a way to contact him. To Yu Linfei, acting like this meant the friendship was over.
He Yi also knew Yu Linfei’s temper. Even though he still didn’t understand why Su Weixi and Yu Linfei had fought, he understood Su Weixi’s character. He knew Su Weixi would never do something like that unless something big had happened.
So, when he accidentally heard that Su Weixi had returned to the country, he used the cat’s sickness as a chance to tell Yu Linfei. As for whether to go or not, that was Yu Linfei’s choice.
“Check my cat and see what’s wrong.” When they arrived at the small pet clinic, Yu Linfei didn’t start with small talk. He just handed over the basket.
“Okay.” Su Weixi answered quietly. He hid his excitement and took the basket from Yu Linfei.
“A Chinchilla?” He pulled back the blanket and took the sleeping kitten out. “How old is he?”
“He just stopped drinking milk. He hasn’t even lost his baby teeth yet. You’ll have to ask He Yi exactly how many months old he is,” Yu Linfei said calmly. He didn’t seem ready to catch up with Su Weixi yet.
“Oh, what are the symptoms?” Su Weixi wanted to say more, but he bit his lip when he saw Yu Linfei’s cold face. He turned the topic back to the cat.
“He threw up milk, got soaked in water, and got cold. I also accidentally fed him cow’s milk.” Yu Linfei felt annoyed and wanted a cigarette, but he stopped himself when he saw the cat in Su Weixi’s hands.
Su Weixi checked Wen Cheng’s body carefully. Then he took a pen from his pocket and started writing a prescription. “How could you be so careless? A kitten’s immune system is very weak. You can’t give him a bath now, and he can’t drink cow’s milk.”
“Mhm.” Yu Linfei kept his eyes on Wen Cheng. His voice sounded very distracted.
“I am talking to you seriously!” Su Weixi was unhappy that Yu Linfei wasn’t paying attention. He tapped the desk with his pen. “Cats are not easy to raise. If you have this attitude, something else will happen. Right now he just has a fever and it’s not a big deal, but who knows what will happen next time!”
“Hey, Su Weixi.” Hearing the unhappy tone, Yu Linfei gave his classic smile. “I thought you would do something big abroad, but you’re still acting like a naggy old lady. What, you didn’t grow up at all while you were away?”
Su Weixi’s face darkened instantly. “Yu Linfei, don’t start with me. Don’t smile like that. If you have something to say, just say it.”
“What did Baiqing Meng do to you that made you fight with me like that?” Yu Linfei finally asked the main question.
“Are you still with him?” Su Weixi didn’t answer. Instead, he asked a question.
“We broke up,” Yu Linfei said helplessly. “You can speak freely now.”
“His background is not clean,” Su Weixi chose his words carefully. “And behind your back…”
“He was seeing someone else, right?” Yu Linfei finished the sentence for him. He said calmly, “Did you know from the start?”
“Yes,” Su Weixi said. “I went to a bar once and saw it by accident.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me directly?” Yu Linfei raised an eyebrow. “If you told me directly back then, would we have fought?”
Because I couldn’t say it, Su Weixi answered in his heart. On the outside, he just gave a forced smile. “I was too angry to think straight at the time.”
“And what about you going abroad?” Yu Linfei didn’t want to get stuck on that topic. He asked what he cared about most. “What happened to you?”
“Nothing.” Su Weixi’s answer was cold. “I just wanted to go abroad to clear my head.”
“Fine, tell me when you want to.” Yu Linfei knew his friend wasn’t telling the truth, but he didn’t keep asking. Su Weixi’s temper was usually quiet, but if he was pushed too far, he was even scarier than Yu Linfei.
“Why did you suddenly want to raise a cat?” Su Weixi looked at Yu Linfei with doubt. As far as he knew, Yu Linfei wasn’t a patient person.
“Fate, I guess. He Yi’s cat had a litter and he couldn’t keep them all, so he gave me one. But how do I use these medicines? Do I give them all to him?” Yu Linfei asked, looking at the prescription.
“Follow the instructions. Next time, never let him get wet in the winter. A fever can be deadly for pets sometimes. Also, too much medicine can hurt his kidneys. Since you want to raise a cat, do it right,” Su Weixi warned.
“Is it okay that he keeps sleeping like this?” Yu Linfei was worried about the cat’s state.
“I checked him just now, it shouldn’t be a big problem. If the medicine doesn’t work, bring him back to see me,” Su Weixi said after thinking.
“Okay.” Yu Linfei agreed. “It’s not convenient with the cat today. Let’s go out for a drink another day. My treat.”
“Mhm.” Su Weixi finally smiled and nodded.
