Professor Shen’s Needy Little Lover - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Shen Zaiqing pretended for a while but couldn’t bear to tease Long Xin any longer. She set the computer aside, put on her slippers, and stood up.
“Time to cut the watermelon.”
The words were like celestial music to Long Xin’s ears. She snapped her head up, her eyes sparkling with light.
Seeing Shen Zaiqing approach, her body slid off the watermelon, and then, like rolling a snowball, she pushed the watermelon into the center of the living room.
Shen Zaiqing squatted down beside her. Looking at this colossal watermelon, she asked Long Xin: “How do you want to eat it?”
She would never have bought such a massive watermelon for herself; she couldn’t finish it, and storing it would be a hassle.
“Cut it in half.” Long Xin’s expression was firm. While she was rocking back and forth on top of the watermelon earlier, she had already decided on the eating method.
She had even made a mark right in the middle of the watermelon; as long as the cut followed that mark, it would be divided into perfect halves.
The dragon cub looked silly and cute, but her limbs were actually very agile. When climbing branches filled with jaboticaba berries, she could climb steadily from bottom to top without crushing a single fruit.
When they eat things they like, they prefer to use both hands and feet; it is their nature.
Jaboticaba berries picked into a bowl aren’t as fragrant as those eaten while clinging to the tree.
It was the same with the watermelon. If she could eat the watermelon using both her hands and feet, for a little dragon, the happiness index would soar.
Long Xin had never eaten such a large watermelon before.
Today, this watermelon—which, when cut open, could serve as a bed for Long Xin gave her the chance to fulfill her dream.
“Cut in half, huh? Should I put it on the table then?”
If they were to eat it on the table, Shen Zaiqing would have to tidy up the coffee table. This giant watermelon would occupy half its area; if she didn’t clear away the bottles, jars, snacks, and fruit baskets, it wouldn’t fit at all.
To her surprise, Long Xin said: “Just put it on the floor.”
She trotted over to the refrigerator on her short legs the spot where the supermarket delivery person had just unloaded the goods and picked out a roll of oversized plastic wrap.
That was a gift given with the purchase of the giant watermelon. Standard plastic wrap on the market couldn’t possibly cover such a large fruit, so the supermarket had specifically commissioned a factory to custom-make oversized wrap to be sold as a set.
A long plastic watermelon knife was also a giveaway.
Long Xin dragged these two items before Shen Zaiqing, asking her to cut the watermelon.
Shen Zaiqing understood her intention. She cut a section of the plastic film, spread it on the floor, and then moved the giant watermelon onto the expanded plastic sheet.
Then, using the watermelon knife, she split the giant watermelon down the middle, one into two.
Long Xin knew how to plan for herself. She hugged the half closer to her, her eyes incredibly bright: “I’ll eat this one tonight; save the other half for tomorrow.”
“Eating so much, won’t your little belly burst?” Shen Zaiqing asked.
“No,” Long Xin shook her head. “I can convert the energy of the watermelon into magic while I eat.”
“So you’re saying eating watermelon can enhance your magic?” This was the first time Shen Zaiqing had heard such a claim.
“Small watermelons won’t do; only giant ones like this can.” Long Xin tilted her head, clutching the half-watermelon in her arms even tighter.
Small watermelons aren’t even enough to fill the stomach, so how could they be compared to a giant one?
Seeing how much she loved this big watermelon, Shen Zaiqing smiled and said: “Alright, then I’ll get you a spoon to scoop it with.”
“No need,” Long Xin refused again. “I’ll just lie on top and gnaw on it directly.”
“Alright.” Shen Zaiqing followed her wishes.
She used the remaining plastic wrap to cover the other half of the watermelon, figuring out a way to put it in the fridge.
Fortunately, her refrigerator was large enough; after removing two shelves, she could fit that half inside.
Once Shen Zaiqing had handled this, she returned to the sofa, staring at the giant watermelon in the center of the living room.
She was curious: how was Long Xin going to use her mouth to finish off this watermelon, which was several sizes larger than the little dragon itself?
Long Xin wasn’t by the watermelon. Shen Zaiqing scanned the room and didn’t see her, guessing she had gone to wash her hands.
The phone on the coffee table suddenly vibrated. Shen Zaiqing glanced at it and saw it wasn’t an unfamiliar number, so she picked it up.
Seeing the name displayed on the screen, Shen Zaiqing had a premonition that the call would take a while. Wanting to let Long Xin know, she raised her voice and looked toward the bathroom: “Long Xin, I’m going to take a call on the balcony. It might be a bit long. If you need me for anything, come and knock on the glass door.”
“Eh?”
Long Xin’s little head poked out from the bathroom door, her claws gripping the doorframe. There was hesitation in her eyes; clearly, she had something to say to Shen Zaiqing.
Ignoring the constantly vibrating phone in her hand, Shen Zaiqing asked patiently: “You have something to tell me, right? What is it?”
Long Xin hesitated for a moment, then said: “Professor, can I use a bit of magic later? Just for five seconds.”
Shen Zaiqing was startled. An image popped into her head, and she described it: “You’re not going to breathe fire to roast the watermelon, are you?”
“No, no.” Long Xin hurriedly denied it.
Her hands were still covered in soap bubbles. To demonstrate to Shen Zaiqing, she pressed her bubbly hands to her sides and flapped them a few times: “I need to fly a short distance later, from here to there.”
She used her claws to point to the showerhead in the bathroom, then to the giant watermelon in the center of the living room.
Those were her starting and ending points.
With that gesture, Shen Zaiqing understood.
This was Long Xin’s “falling from the sky” eating method. She wanted to suspend her entire body and pounce onto the watermelon, using both hands and feet.
When her mouth got tired of gnawing, she could use her claws to help.
The only thing to note for this eating method was to wash her hands, feet, and body clean.
Otherwise, if she brought dirt into the watermelon, the little dragon would lose her appetite while eating.
Long Xin was currently in the bathroom scrubbing her dragon scales, hands, and feet. But if she stepped on the floor after rinsing, her little feet would get dirty again, making the wash pointless. Thus, she could only fly over through the air.
Facing Long Xin’s earnest gaze, Shen Zaiqing nodded and agreed, a smile on her lips.
Reporting to the adopter before using magic was a good habit.
Long Xin certainly knew how to respect her.
“Then I’m going to the balcony to take the call.”
“Okay.”
Shen Zaiqing turned and walked toward the balcony, while Long Xin’s head ducked back into the bathroom to continue her work.
The phone in Shen Zaiqing’s hand rang incessantly, as if the caller wouldn’t stop until she answered.
She walked all the way outside to the balcony, pulled the glass door shut, and leaned her body against the railing before pressing the answer button.
She brought the phone to her ear. Despite the contact name on the screen, she pretended not to know and greeted the other party politely yet distantly: “Hello, who is this?”
A slightly aged voice came from the other end: “Hello, Professor Shen? I am Long Sheng, the Patriarch of the Dragon Clan.”
The name Long Sheng and his contact information had been saved in Shen Zaiqing’s phone during the early training phase.
Ye Zheng-ying had sent a specific Dragon Clan contact manual, and printed at the very front was the contact info for the Patriarch, Long Sheng.
During the training, Shen Zaiqing happened to have free time, so she saved those names into her phone.
When she saved them, she knew that during these three months, she would likely only interact with grassroots cadres; those at the top wouldn’t be people she’d deal with.
She hadn’t expected that on Long Xin’s second day at Building No. 3, the Patriarch of the Dragon Clan would contact her personally.
Shen Zaiqing didn’t feel honored; instead, her feelings were complex.
“Hello, Patriarch. It’s quite a surprise to receive your call.”
“Calling so late, Patriarch, do you want to ask about Long Xin’s situation?”
While speaking with Long Sheng, Shen Zaiqing kept an eye on Long Xin’s situation in the bathroom. She had intentionally moved to an angle where she could see inside.
The bathroom door suddenly opened. The showerhead hadn’t been turned off, and the flowing water continued to splash over Long Xin. Then, Shen Zaiqing saw Long Xin fly up gracefully, rinsing the soles of her feet clean, and then turning off the shower switch.
At a height of fifty centimeters from the floor, she shook her body, shaking off the water droplets from her surface, and then flew in a straight line toward the watermelon in the center of the living room.
Dragon flight utilizes magic; breathing fire and spitting water are also part of their magic.
Therefore, they can move through the air without needing wings.
Long Xin moved from the bathroom to directly above the watermelon. After adjusting her height, she withdrew her magic. Her suspended body landed with a “bada” sound onto the half-cut watermelon.
The landing spot was well-chosen. The watermelon rocked gently a few times before settling. Long Xin’s expression carried a bit of the smugness of a vicious dragon pouncing on its food and catching its prey.
It was all captured by Shen Zaiqing.
Shen Zaiqing’s eyes curved as Long Sheng’s voice sounded in her ear: “Yes, I am calling to ask how Long Xin is performing in Building No. 3?”
“Has she caused any trouble?”
“Long Xin is performing exceptionally well; I can’t find a single fault.”
“I like her very much.”
