Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Past Life (Conclusion)
Past Life (Conclusion): Forever.
As anticipated, the sweet honeymoon period after Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue cleared the air lasted only a few days before Yue Lei was summoned to court.
However, with Mo Yingxue’s assistance, much of the previously uncollected evidence became available. The judge, reviewing all the expense records and transfer slips organized by the lawyer, confirmed that none of the money had passed through Yue Lei’s accounts.
Furthermore, Yue Lei’s standard of living hadn’t changed since Zhao Zicheng started the fraud—she didn’t look like a poor person who had suddenly become rich. The court began to believe that Yue Lei was not involved in the massive scam.
But with Zhao Zicheng still at large, Yue Lei, as her boss, superior, and the only person linked to and responsible for the large-scale fraud, was held in a detention center for three weeks.
During those three weeks, she met many people she would never have encountered otherwise, made a few friends, and experienced repeated cycles of hope and disappointment during Mo Yingxue’s visits.
Mo Yingxue didn’t make blind promises when she wasn’t certain, but she secretly used all her connections and even asked her mother abroad to search for the person through unofficial channels.
Finally, Zhao Zicheng was found through an intensive search, successfully convicted, and detained. Yue Lei was finally released without charge.
Having been a free-spirited person for half her life, the period of confinement, with its strict schedules and self-discipline, was agonizing for Yue Lei.
As she finally breathed the air of freedom and looked at her wife waiting not far away, Yue Lei felt a pathetic wave of emotion.
But as she approached Mo Yingxue, she saw tears on her wife’s cheeks. Yue Lei instantly panicked; her wife was more distressed than she was.
She hurried over, took Mo Yingxue’s hand, and asked with a trembling lip: “Wife, why are you crying? Don’t cry. Aren’t you happy I was released without charge? I asked; this won’t affect my political review.”
Mo Yingxue hadn’t actually intended to cry. They weren’t having children, so what did a political review matter? This person, really, she just blurts out whatever she thinks, never filtering it.
She smiled through her tears: “Of course, I’m happy. I just saw how much weight you’ve lost, and I couldn’t help but think about how much you must have suffered.”
“Then my wife has to be extra good to me.” Yue Lei hugged Mo Yingxue again. She glanced back at the detention center, shivered, and quickly led Mo Yingxue away by the hand.
After a wonderful meal and returning home, the two finally had the mental space to discuss the events of the past few weeks.
Hearing how Yue Lei had managed to network and make so many friends in the detention center, Mo Yingxue finally felt reassured.
Yue Lei looked into her eyes and couldn’t help but ask: “Wife, how did you find Zhao Zicheng in the end? The police said she was untraceable. I was prepared to be the scapegoat. Isn’t it ridiculous for a boss to be a scapegoat for an employee?”
Mo Yingxue’s gaze fell to the floor: “…It was handled by people I hired. I’m not entirely sure of the specifics of the operation.”
She wouldn’t tell Yue Lei that she had hired technicians who used AI to synthesize Yue Lei’s appearance and voice.
They then had the fake Yue Lei pretend to have feelings for Zhao Zicheng, acting as if she wasn’t particularly angry about being scammed and wanted to flee the country to join Zhao Zicheng, slowly luring her out. It was quite ironic that the woman genuinely seemed to harbor feelings for Yue Lei.
For a few days after Yue Lei was taken away, Mo Yingxue was at a loss. It was only during a conversation with the lawyer that she suddenly spotted the blind spot. During the time Zhao Zicheng started the fraud, Yue Lei was aggressively decentralizing power.
Zhao Zicheng could easily have used her bank cards and the company’s corporate account. Yet, she had avoided using the seemingly more trustworthy corporate account when defrauding the wealthy.
The final analysis left Mo Yingxue silent for a day. However, she took the advice to heart and successfully used the loophole, tricking Zhao Zicheng into showing up at the airport for apprehension.
Mo Yingxue felt there was no need for Yue Lei to know those details, at least not yet.
It wasn’t because of jealousy, but because Yue Lei was easily soft-hearted. Now that she had gone through such effort to get her cleanly released, she didn’t want Yue Lei to get sentimental, meet Zhao Zicheng, be tricked again, and end up back in court.
Yue Lei was only away for three weeks, but upon returning home, she felt a sense of displacement.
She found the spacious house somewhat unfamiliar and was polite and measured in her movements, unlike her previous slouching, lazy demeanor the moment she walked through the door. Mo Yingxue found it amusing but didn’t point it out. Time would heal everything; she just needed to adjust slowly.
She hugged Yue Lei from behind, wanting to distract her and pull her out of her own thoughts. Feeling the warmth from behind, Yue Lei turned around. Now that she knew her wife had deep feelings for her and loved her, she was no longer afraid of initiating affection without a response.
Yue Lei curled up on the sofa and slid directly into Mo Yingxue’s arms, closing her eyes with a defiant, I’m sleeping in your arms, and you can’t do anything about it attitude.
In their eight years of marriage, Yue Lei had always been the one to cling to Mo Yingxue, practically forcing her to be affectionate. Now, Yue Lei was emboldened by being the one loved. Mo Yingxue was too busy feeling protective to push her away.
She stroked Yue Lei’s hair and curved her eyes: “You’re a grown woman, acting like a baby.”
Yue Lei’s face flushed, and she kept her eyes closed: “I am your baby. Your baby is sleeping in your arms now. You can’t deny it, and you can’t refuse.”
Mo Yingxue truly couldn’t resist her. She negotiated: “Then let’s go sleep in the bed. The sofa is uncomfortable.”
Yue Lei gave her a side-eye: “Then you come with me.”
“I can do that,” Mo Yingxue readily agreed.
However, once they moved to the bed, Yue Lei’s sleepiness vanished. Her hands roamed over Mo Yingxue’s body with suggestive intent.
After behaving so well all day, Mo Yingxue had thought her time in detention had made her more obedient, but she was still acting inappropriately. She firmly pushed Yue Lei’s hand away, a blush rising on her cheeks. Her voice was soft: “It’s not convenient right now.”
“Hmm?” Yue Lei was startled before realizing her wife was on her period. She quickly withdrew her hand, feeling genuinely embarrassed: “I’m so sorry, I completely forgot.” She held her wife close and meticulously tucked her in. She lowered her eyes and said seriously, “Be careful not to catch a chill. Get some rest.”
As they spoke casually, Mo Yingxue suddenly asked: “Yue Lei, after everything you’ve been through, what are you going to do next?”
Yue Lei frowned: “Before, I was expecting a conviction and was too worried to think about anything else…”
Mo Yingxue hummed and squeezed her hand: “Then think about it now.”
Yue Lei chuckled: “Don’t laugh at me. My goal when I worked so hard a few years ago was to make enough money while I was young to last a lifetime, then retire and follow you around like a shadow. But now my company is shut down, the hosts have terminated their contracts, and I don’t want to work in that industry again. I don’t want to start from scratch.”
She admitted that she hadn’t thought things through sufficiently before. The people who wanted to be streamers were generally high-energy and highly motivated, with big dreams for the future and a strong desire for money. It was difficult to peacefully retire and live off dividends in that industry.
Either, like this time, the absentee owner gets set up, and if it weren’t for her wife, her life would be over. Or, she would eventually be completely marginalized by her employees, losing both power and money.
Mo Yingxue snuggled into her: “Then what do you like to do? I think you should do whatever you like. Our money is enough, and I won’t try to outbid you for famous artwork at auctions anymore.”
Yue Lei thought for a long, long time, exploring every idea that came to mind. She wasn’t just considering future development or profitability; she also had to consider whether she would have enough free time—enough to spend lavishly on her wife.
Yue Lei spent several days focused on this, searching online, checking materials, watching documentaries, or reading reference papers for anything that interested her. This focus successfully distracted her, allowing her to mentally transition from the stress of the lawsuit to starting a new life.
A month later, as Mo Yingxue and Yue Lei returned home after dinner, they saw a basket of fresh fruits and vegetables on the table. Juicy tomatoes, lettuce, and carrots were neatly arranged in an exquisite, lace-trimmed wicker basket, clearly placed there intentionally. Glancing at the secretly smiling Yue Lei, Mo Yingxue played along, feigning curiosity: “What is that? Did the maid forget to put the groceries in the fridge?”
“No, no,” Yue Lei explained to her: “I picked those myself at the farm this morning! The tomatoes are delicious, but unfortunately, there wasn’t much fruit.”
Mo Yingxue wasn’t sure what she was up to: “Well, Yue Lei, you left so early this morning. I thought you had important business, but you ran off to play at a farm. You should have taken me with you.”
“I was actually there for serious business.” Yue Lei smiled and pulled a farm transfer contract from her bag: “I’ve decided on my career for the rest of my life: I’m going to be a farm tycoon! This is the best farm I’ve checked out recently.
It’s huge, not far from the city, and I want to grow high-end organic green vegetables and fruits. I won’t abandon my old line of work entirely—I can do some live streaming and self-media myself. I can still use my network.”
“You’re not kidding, are you?” Mo Yingxue glanced at the contract, which was unsigned. She pulled up a chair and began flipping through it page by page. As she read the contract, Yue Lei sat quietly beside her, looking calm but feeling intensely nervous inside.
When Mo Yingxue closed the last page, Yue Lei immediately leaned over and asked: “What do you think?”
“You certainly put effort into this,” Mo Yingxue gave Yue Lei a light kiss on the cheek. “This place looks very promising. I support your career change wholeheartedly.”
“That’s a relief.” Yue Lei’s heart finally settled.
She wasn’t afraid of the unknown; she was only afraid that Mo Yingxue would think her choice to become a farmer was incompatible with her wife’s glamorous city-dweller image.
Mo Yingxue had no idea what she was thinking.
As she thought, she offered a suggestion: “But you probably won’t make a fortune just by growing crops. I think you need to add something else, like a farm stay or processing the fruits and vegetables into specialty agricultural products. Those typically have a higher price point.”
“Good idea. The money-making plans can wait until I’ve taken over the farm and settled in.” Seeing her wife’s support made Yue Lei feel an inexplicable sense of happiness.
She hugged Mo Yingxue, forehead to forehead: “The main reason I want to start a farm is the thought that when we’re old, we can take walks by the fields. That feels very romantic.”
Mo Yingxue couldn’t help but chuckle: “We can go for walks by the fields now. It’ll still be romantic.”
Yue Lei immediately became excited: “I’ll take pictures of you! Wife, wearing a little white dress, you’ll look so fresh and beautiful!”
Mo Yingxue nodded: “Then I’ll use your photo as a reference and paint you into it, freezing that moment forever, turning it into eternity.”
