Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Past Life (5)
Past Life (5): The Confession.
Mo Yingxue glared at Yue Lei as if she were a ghost, filled with anger and resentment.
Yue Lei was the one who had fallen out of love and initiated the divorce, yet now she was calling Mo Yingxue heartless. What exactly does she mean?
Thinking this, she asked: “Didn’t you want the divorce? I’m granting your wish.”
“I…” A flood of grievances flashed through Yue Lei’s mind, but the impending lawsuit and jail time hovering over her forced her to remain silent.
She looked at Mo Yingxue with hurt in her eyes a few more times, bit her lower lip, and looked away.
Yue Lei had navigated the business world for years, facing contracts worth hundreds of millions without batting an eye, never revealing her true thoughts.
Yet, in front of Mo Yingxue, she was like an innocent child, every emotion written clearly on her face. Begging, playing tricks, making a fool of herself… she was willing to do anything to please Mo Yingxue.
Right now, her feelings were utterly exposed. Mo Yingxue covertly observed for a long time and realized her wife genuinely looked deeply wronged and heartbroken, not indifferent as she had suspected.
Seeing that they were only one street away from the Civil Affairs Bureau, Mo Yingxue gritted her teeth. She turned and asked: “Do you have any other plans for this afternoon?”
“Huh? No.” Yue Lei’s original plan was to find Lin Zhixi to cry her heart out after the divorce, then drink until she forgot her own name.
After that, she would just wait for the court summons and go to jail. But none of that could be revealed to Mo Yingxue. The news of her incarceration might eventually leak, but the rest was too humiliating; it was better left unsaid.
Mo Yingxue simply hummed, started gathering her bag, and said with a cold voice: “Then we’ll divorce later. Turn right and pull over now.”
Yue Lei obediently did as she was told. After parking, she finally processed what had happened and looked at the beautiful woman with dismay: “Wife, what are you doing?” She felt hurt. A huge thing like divorce isn’t even my wife’s top priority…
Mo Yingxue didn’t answer. She simply took Yue Lei’s phone, unlocked it with her fingerprint, found the electronic ID page, and strode off in her high heels toward the nearby Orange Hotel.
With her wife confidently checking them in, Yue Lei followed behind, unsure what to do with her hands and feet. She tried to appear calm, looking ahead expressionlessly. But in her mind, she thought: Is my wife suggesting a divorce sex?
It must be, there was no other reason to do this before the divorce… They had been intensely busy recently and hadn’t had proper sex in months. Though she knew having sex before divorcing was ill-timed, Yue Lei couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement, her heart pounding.
Following Mo Yingxue to the double room after checking in, her mind raced through various bedroom techniques.
Since this is the last time, I must make a profound and unforgettable impression on my wife.
Upon entering the room, seeing Mo Yingxue pull the curtains, close the windows, and check the soundproofing, Yue Lei became even more certain of her assumption. The pain of becoming divorced seemed to have momentarily faded.
However, when Mo Yingxue finished her preparations and walked gracefully toward her, Yue Lei saw tears on her face. A tear formed at the corner of her eye, rolled down to her lip, gathered into a droplet, and then fell heavily.
Yue Lei instantly panicked. All the lust that had been born out of that sensual and dangerous situation was immediately shattered.
She rushed to hug Mo Yingxue and wipe her face: “Wife, why are you crying? Please don’t cry.”
Mo Yingxue shook her head, sat on the floor, wiped her tears, and turned her head away, not wanting to look at her.
“Don’t cry, don’t be sad…” In all their years of marriage, Yue Lei had rarely seen such a vulnerable side of Mo Yingxue. Seeing her wife cry made her want to cry too. Mo Yingxue, though outwardly delicate, was internally stable and had almost never shown this side in their time together.
This meant Yue Lei was terrible at comforting her; she could only fuss and repeat the same meaningless phrases. While clumsily reaching for a tissue for her wife, her knee hit the coffee table. She managed to toss the tissue to Mo Yingxue before clutching her leg and howling in pain.
The sight was so comical that Mo Yingxue, initially lost in grief, couldn’t help but giggle. Snapping out of her sadness, she blinked, propped herself up against the bed, sat on the edge, and stared at Yue Lei with big, dark, accusing eyes.
At this point, the emotions hidden beneath the surface could no longer be contained.
Mo Yingxue sniffled, glaring at Yue Lei as she asked: “Are you divorcing me because you don’t love me anymore? Who is the other woman?”
“What other woman? What are you talking about?” Yue Lei’s head was spinning, and her emotions became incredibly agitated. She clutched Mo Yingxue’s wrist as if it were the only lifeline she had, refusing to let go no matter how she struggled.
Mo Yingxue looked at her, wiping the tear streaks from her face: “Then why are you leaving me? Are you crazy, or do you just have to experience a seven-year itch?”
“I…” Yue Lei stammered for a long time. Just before Mo Yingxue’s patience completely ran out and she became angrier, Yue Lei finally broke.
She hugged Mo Yingxue, hardened her heart, and confessed the truth: “My company is in huge trouble. I might have to go to jail, Wife…”
She carefully explained how Zhao Zicheng had single-handedly defrauded half of China’s wealthy elite and had now fled the country with the money. Mo Yingxue was infected by her panic, and her heart clenched. She turned to Yue Lei, her eyes misty: “You… you’ve been busy with this for the past six months?”
Yue Lei couldn’t stand seeing her wife like this.
She gritted her teeth, filled with intense hatred for Zhao Zicheng: “Yes. I’ve hired lawyers, exhausted every option… but now we can’t find the real culprit. All the evidence is incomplete. I’m the company’s legal representative; I might be summoned and detained next week. I was afraid of implicating you… that’s why we have to go through with this divorce…”
Mo Yingxue stared at her, finally finding her breath after a long pause: “Yue Lei, are you telling me the truth? You’re not lying to me, are you?”
Yue Lei shook her head vigorously like a rattle: “No, no! A gentleman makes wealth honestly; I just run a company. And you know, I only make money to buy cars, houses, and travel. The money I made during the live streaming boom years is completely enough for us!” Her tone was sincere and firm, as always.
Despite facing the crisis of her partner possibly going to jail, Mo Yingxue felt an irrepressible joy knowing that Yue Lei hadn’t changed her heart.
She rested her head on Yue Lei’s shoulder, holding her arm, and murmured: “I thought so too. You don’t have any other hobbies except buying sports cars. You never had strong material desires yourself; I always wondered why you worked so hard before.”
That was the one thing that had always dissatisfied her. Mo Yingxue considered herself an independent woman, but she simply wanted to be with Yue Lei. Even if they weren’t talking or playing together, the thought that Yue Lei was by her side, that she could call out and see her, made her feel incredibly happy.
She never wanted to show her unhealthy dependence on Yue Lei, so all those desires had been suppressed deep down. They had turned into disappointment, indifference, and a forced habit of not thinking about it.
“The reason is simple,” Yue Lei kissed the top of her head, offering a lighthearted explanation amid the bitterness: “I wanted to make more money while I was young. Managing the company well for a few years was like buying myself a retirement plan. Then I would gradually step down, just take dividends, and spend the rest of my life with you…”
A hint of loss returned to her face. “I just didn’t expect our top host to be bolder than me. She wasn’t satisfied with a steady life and wanted to make quick money, destroying everything when I wasn’t looking.”
Mo Yingxue squeezed her hand: “You trust people too easily.” But then, she thought that even she was familiar with that name, meaning the person had been working under Yue Lei for years.
Betrayal by a confidant was the most unpredictable kind.
After confessing to her wife, Yue Lei’s mood inexplicably brightened, even though nothing had actually changed.
She pouted and mumbled: “If I had known this, I wouldn’t have worked so hard before. If we don’t travel and enjoy ourselves while we’re young, are we supposed to wait until we’re old? Will those old folks even appreciate the Arctic King Crab buffet? They’ll get gout! Young and strong people like us should eat more!”
The sadness was completely washed away, and their hearts were close again. Mo Yingxue laughed so hard she could barely stay upright: “Haha, you definitely won’t say that when you become an old woman.”
“Sigh, I’m just thinking out loud. I hear the meat served in prison is pathetically little. Forget King Crab; even small shrimp is only for holidays. I don’t know how long I’ll be sentenced…”
Yue Lei glanced at Mo Yingxue, saying sorrowfully: “I’ll probably go to jail right after we divorce. The first three years… No, you’re not allowed to remarry in the first year after divorce! But if you really meet someone you like, you can start dating and bring her to the prison to visit me so I can vet her for you.”
She bounced between sadness, anger, and sentimental melancholy, her emotions completely erratic. With little freedom left, Yue Lei couldn’t control her feelings.
Mo Yingxue grew concerned: “You’re going to jail; you’re not dead. Why are you treating me like a widow?”
“You might as well think I’m dead.” Yue Lei dropped the playful act and said seriously: “With billions involved, I might spend the rest of my life in prison.” She suddenly didn’t dare look at Mo Yingxue’s expression, so her gaze rested on her pale neck.
Mo Yingxue grabbed her head, forcing their foreheads together, chest to chest, and said with unwavering determination: “I won’t let you go to jail. And I’m not divorcing you.”
Yue Lei instantly became frantic: “No, you can’t! What if it implicates you if we don’t divorce? I can take the hardship, but you can’t go to jail with me, Wife. Don’t be childish; let’s go to the Civil Affairs Bureau now. They’re about to close.”
No matter what Yue Lei said or how hard she pulled, Mo Yingxue was adamant about not leaving the room.
They wrestled until 6 p.m., when the Civil Affairs Bureau closed. Yue Lei couldn’t understand why her usually delicate wife had such strength—she couldn’t even physically drag her out. She finally collapsed onto the bed, staring at the ceiling: “Fine, we can’t divorce today, but we absolutely have to go tomorrow!”
Mo Yingxue smiled, lying beside her, propping her head up with her arm, her hair scattered across the bed: “We’re staying outside anyway. Do you want to shower first, or should I?”
Mo Yingxue was very clean and always washed before and after sex, so her words were a clear sexual invitation to Yue Lei! Since they were stuck here, they might as well enjoy themselves first!
Yue Lei sped toward the bathroom, quickly unbuttoning her shirt: “Me first! Wife, you have to blow-dry my hair later!”
