Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 53
Chapter 53: I Can’t Lose Her Again.
After Ms. Z left, the audience continued to tease Yue Lei about her for a while, but no one suspected they were in private contact anymore. Sakura noticed Yue Lei’s tension and, not wanting the stream to fail, immediately took the lead in setting the pace.
Sakura: “Rose Garden X2”
Sakura: “When is the streamer taking my girl to go skydiving and paragliding? I’m so excited!”
As soon as this was said, the audience who knew the inside story became excited.
“Aaaah, Jennie-baby is here uninvited! I thought I’d run out of content when CEO Yue went traveling, but who would have thought she’s posted the most updates in recent days!”
“There’s even skydiving and paragliding! People with a fear of heights are already terrified! But I knew CEO Yue was into this. When she was driving on stream before, I noticed the speed was almost always at the edge of the speeding limit. This woman definitely loves seeking thrills!”
“Will she wear Zhang Zhenni’s cosplay outfit to jump? That’s too dedicated! I was secretly jealous when I heard Sakura gave the streamer a lot of money, but now I’m not envious at all. That money is being earned with her life.”
Seeing that everyone finally stopped bringing up Ms. Z, Yue Lei breathed a huge sigh of relief. While continuing the mukbang, she revealed a little information: “It’s confirmed that I’ll take Jennie to experience extreme sports. However, I might only wear the wig. Her clothes are very elaborate, with many decorations that could easily be lost, or even injure someone.”
With that, she extended her hand towards the aggressively posed, roasted insects. Yue Lei showed the camera the deep-fried golden scorpions, centipedes, and silkworm pupae one by one: “I’m almost full now, so let’s try these. We bought them on the way here. I’ve truly never eaten this kind of thing before, so I’m trying it for the novelty.”
“What was that plate of untouched food? It’s bugs! Retreat! Retreat! This person with bug phobia can’t handle it anymore. See you next time.”
“Seriously, can you actually eat this stuff? It looks poisonous just looking at it…”
“I didn’t expect CEO Yue’s food stream to have two parts: the first part is for enjoying delicious food and whetting everyone’s appetite. The second part is for novelty, killing everyone’s appetite, so you don’t actually go out to eat.”
“Hey, have you really never eaten roasted bugs? Scorpions and centipedes are a bit novel, but grasshoppers and silkworm pupae are very common. Now I’m craving silkworm pupae again; they’re incredibly fragrant!”
Yue Lei handed a skewer of roasted silkworm pupae to her wife, who had put down her chopsticks long ago and appeared to have been full for a while. She chuckled slyly: “Xiao Xue, dare to try it?”
Mo Yingxue stared at it for several seconds before finally shaking her hand: “I’m full. You eat it yourself.”
Yue Lei was relentless: “Lots of people eat these, and everyone says they’re very fragrant. Just take a bite, since you’re already here. There’s barely any meat on it.”
“No!” Xiao Xue was genuinely afraid she would get stubborn and force her to eat it. She couldn’t help but shout, startled, and stood up, moving far away. Her hand, which was briefly in the frame, was now completely out.
Yue Lei was mindful that she was live-streaming and didn’t chase after her. But when she returned to her seat and looked at the audience, they were all laughing hysterically.
“My god, no need for soul-possession now. The girl is directly acting as me.”
“CEO Yue has such a cheeky side! I never would have thought. I’m dying of laughter. She really doesn’t want to eat it, just let her off the hook.”
“Yeah, yeah. That girl looks quite introverted and timid. She’s willing to travel with you, so why do you keep tormenting her? If you like it, eat it yourself.”
Besides this, there were dissenting voices.
“I can’t watch this anymore. She said she doesn’t want to eat it, and you’re still forcing her. How is this any different from forcing someone to drink at a dinner table? So annoying. I’m leaving.”
“Yeah, I’m having a flashback to my mom forcing me to eat. CEO Yue, can you please stop?”
Yue Lei ignored them and simply dumped all the bugs onto the plate. She took a sip of the grapefruit passion fruit smoothie beer Xiao Xue had bought, then sighed softly: “Actually, I’m scared to eat bugs too, but I thought it would be better with someone by my side. But Xiao Xue really doesn’t want to eat it, so I’ll deal with it myself. Can’t waste food.”
Yue Lei first picked up a less challenging silkworm pupa. It was crispy, salty, and fragrant. The meat was very tender and had a slightly suspicious juice, but overall, the taste was decent.
“This is actually pretty tasty, just a little cold,” Yue Lei commented briefly, then finished the whole skewer.
Next, Yue Lei chugged a few sips of beer to cleanse her palate and moved on to the grasshoppers. Compared to the silkworm pupae, these were drier from the roasting. She preferred them. Yue Lei smiled: “I like this one better. It’s crispy and crunchy. Tastes really good.”
After finishing the more palatable insects, she pointed the camera at the aggressively posed scorpion: “It really needs to be gradual. If I had to eat this first, I definitely couldn’t handle it. But now, I just think it’s only slightly scary.” Yue Lei gestured for a while before finally putting it in her mouth. She wrinkled her eyebrows and stuck out her tongue: “It’s a little bitter and a bit hard. Not good.”
Seeing this, Xiao Xue quickly suggested: “Then don’t eat it.” Just seeing Yue Lei holding the scorpion made goosebumps pop up all over her arms.
But the girl became more determined instead, taking a big gulp of beer, and shoving the charred black scorpion back into her mouth: “It’s just not delicious, not inedible!”
When the table was mostly cleared, Yue Lei finally said goodbye and closed the live stream. The sweet and sour smoothie beer also contained alcohol. She drank hers quickly and urgently, finished her pint, and poured half of Xiao Xue’s. Now, she was slightly tipsy and sat there giggling foolishly.
Mo Yingxue was quite impressed that she could maintain a normal stream under the circumstances. Only after the stream was off did the foolishness surface. She squeezed Yue Lei’s hand with a hint of helplessness: “Sis, why do you have to be like this?”
Yue Lei had known she was streaming and working just moments ago. She needed to stay focused and not mess up. Now that the stream was off, and the alcohol was hitting harder, she suddenly didn’t know what she should be doing. Her gaze landed on Xiao Xue. Yue Lei stared intently for a long time, until the latter wondered if she hadn’t wiped her mouth clean. Only then did she curl her lips and gently stroke Mo Yingxue’s head: “Wife, work’s over. Let’s go home.”
Although Yue Lei was usually very clingy, she had good boundaries and a strange sense of distance. She would never, ever dare to call her that to her face.
Mo Yingxue frowned deeply, clenching and unclenching her fists. She looked at Yue Lei suspiciously: “What did you call me?”
“Wife…” Yue Lei called out softly again. The alcohol had veiled her eyes with a misty film. She leaned over like she was cuddling, resting her head on Mo Yingxue’s shoulder and circling her with her arm: “My blood sugar is up. So sleepy… Wife, I’ll just sleep for a bit, just a little bit…”
A tremendous storm was raging in Mo Yingxue’s heart. She now suspected that her Yue Lei had truly arrived.
Mo Yingxue shook Yue Lei’s shoulder, wanting to take advantage of her drunkenness to get some truth out of her. “Yue Lei, wake up, don’t sleep yet! I have something to ask you!”
But the girl had somehow fallen deeply asleep. Her entire weight was pressing down on her, heavy and constant, like a precarious mountain about to collapse. Mo Yingxue couldn’t wake her up, and the fear of losing her surged up again. Unconsciously, her eyes welled up with tears.
Hearing the commotion, a waitress walked over: “Excuse me, are you ready to pay?” Seeing one person inexplicably crying and the other seemingly passed out, the waitress was overwhelmed. Just as she was about to call for backup to help lift the drunk guest, her eyes fell on a few bamboo skewers on the table. Her expression instantly became tense, and she quickly started checking the plates: “Did the guests eat roasted bugs?”
With someone watching, Mo Yingxue quickly composed herself. She wiped her tears: “Yes, she ate them all. We brought them from outside.”
“Did she fall asleep right after eating? Then she might be having an allergic reaction or poisoning.” The waitress’s expression was serious: “You haven’t had much to drink, and you probably didn’t drink on an empty stomach, so she shouldn’t be getting drunk this easily. But she’s sleeping so soundly and won’t wake up when called. This is very wrong. You should go to the hospital! Sometimes the vendor doesn’t properly remove the venom sacs from the bugs, or highly toxic varieties accidentally get mixed in, which can cause problems.”
This made Mo Yingxue even more panicked, and cold sweat broke out all over her body. The flush on Yue Lei’s face now looked completely abnormal. She couldn’t lose her again!
Mo Yingxue looked helplessly at the waitress: “Thank you so much. Could you please help me take her to the hospital? I’ll give you a thousand dollars for your trouble.”
Food poisoning is a race against death, and this guest was being very generous. “Xiao Wang, go call a taxi outside! The customer here has been poisoned by eating a fried scorpion!” The waitress spoke into her intercom and immediately came to help her gather personal belongings and lift Yue Lei.
On the way, they confirmed that Yue Lei was indeed poisoned. Her lips were turning increasingly purple, and many red rashes were breaking out on her body, which looked shocking. The taxi driver was also afraid of a serious incident and floored the accelerator, running most red lights.
After a chaotic rush, they successfully reached the hospital. After explaining the situation, the doctors and nurses immediately wheeled Yue Lei onto a bed, started an IV drip, and ran toward the emergency room. In a hospital, if the doctors start running, it means something serious has happened. Many people turned their attention to Yue Lei on the gurney, wondering what was wrong with the young woman.
Mo Yingxue had never seen such a scene. She was completely terrified, almost physically paralyzed. The observant and kind waitress didn’t leave even after accepting the money.
She stayed by Mo Yingxue’s side, comforting her: “She’ll be fine. The doctors here are the most specialized at treating poisoning!
My aunt’s family ate uncooked wild mushrooms, and the whole family ended up in the hospital!
After being discharged, they cooked the mushrooms again, and ended up back in the hospital a second time! But the doctors saved them all again. I think it was at this very hospital.”
Mo Yingxue imagined that scenario. She stopped sobbing and couldn’t help but ask: “Why did they insist on eating those mushrooms?”
The waitress scratched her head: “Maybe it’s like your friend—they just don’t believe in bad luck.”
Mo Yingxue bit her lower lip, her gaze fixed on the treatment room: “That’s my girlfriend. I’ve already lost her once; I can’t lose her again.”
