Pretty Wife Insists I Live Off Her - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: Rain Is Our Cat.
Yue Lei returned to the bedroom, her face flushed, and quickly changed into a dark gray suit skirt with a subtle butterfly pattern.
The well-fitting lines and the tight-fitting fabric became her armor, successfully bringing back her sense of security.
She looked at herself in the mirror, adjusted the collar and cuffs of the matching shirt, and then unbuttoned another button in a flirtatious way.
After making sure she had both the elegance of an urban woman and the beautiful lines of a woman, Yue Lei finally showed a satisfied expression.
The embarrassment of almost being seen with a visible nipple was gone, and she was once again the arrogant and disdainful CEO Yue.
Yue Lei took out her phone and posed in front of the mirror to take a few photos of her outfit of the day to share with her fans on the Qingsound live streaming platform.
They had never seen this demure and reserved side of her before, and she was sure they would be full of praise.
Looking at the photos on her phone, Yue Lei couldn’t help but sigh.
It was true that clothes make the man. An unsophisticated person like herself, who knew nothing about the fashion world, could look very sharp and beautiful just by putting on a decent and elegant outfit.
This suit skirt was sent over by the shop assistant at Mo Yingxue’s request when she first moved in.
Yue Lei hadn’t bought any clothes since she transmigrated, and when she was twenty years old, her taste wasn’t this sophisticated, and she couldn’t bear to spend so much money on clothes.
When she finally left the bedroom, she found that Mo Yingxue had already taken down the easel. She was now on the first floor, watering the flowers and chatting with Wang Ma.
It was indeed her fault for running away halfway through being a model.
Yue Lei held onto the railing on the second floor of the villa, feeling guilty, and called out to her: “Xiao Xue, I’m going to see Rain. Are you coming?”
Mo Yingxue first looked up at her for a while. Just as Yue Lei thought she hadn’t heard her and was about to ask again, she said, “I’m coming. Wang Ma just made some nutritious cat food for it, so we can take it to the family.”
Her wife was still willing to talk to her, which meant she wasn’t mad at all!
When Yue Lei realized this, her first reaction was happiness.
After hearing the rest, she looked at Wang Ma with embarrassment and smiled: “Oh, thank you, Wang Ma. You’ve gone to so much trouble again. Rain is just a little stray cat. It’s lucky to have cat food to eat. As for Drizzle, they’re only a month old. I don’t know if they can eat yet.”
Wang Ma waved her hand happily: “This is the first time the young lady has had a pet. Of course, we have to be meticulous.”
Yue Lei opened her mouth, wanting to retort that they were her cats and that they were only staying here temporarily until she picked them up from the hospital.
When her employment ended, she would definitely take them with her, so Wang Ma didn’t need to be so invested.
Just then, Mo Yingxue put down the watering can and looked at her with her dark eyes.
She looked impatient: “Come down now.”
Wang Ma had obviously done her research on raising cats. The meat she cooked and the tiny bit of side dishes were all safe for cats to eat, and she hadn’t added any seasoning. It only smelled faintly of meat and milk.
Yue Lei poked the food in the bowl with a spoon, curious: “Why is it all minced meat? Is it crushed?”
Wang Ma saw what she was doing and nodded with a smile: “Yes, a lot of cats are ‘licking monsters’ and don’t chew. This makes it easier for them to eat. The other box of goat milk biscuits is for the kittens. Ask the nurse to feed them.”
Yue Lei asked doubtfully: “Won’t this spoil the cats too much? Rain was a stray before. It should be able to eat on its own.”
Seeing that they were talking endlessly, Mo Yingxue tugged on Yue Lei’s sleeve: “Wang Ma has several cats at home. She knows more about raising them than you do. Hurry up and go.”
This made Yue Lei seem like she was showing off her incompetence. Yue Lei chuckled awkwardly and stopped questioning the cat food Wang Ma made.
After staying in the warm and comfortable room for a day with a full belly, the tortoiseshell mother cat’s temper was not as bad as before.
When Yue Lei teased her through the cage, she only got two hisses.
When she fed her the cat food, she even let her pet her head for a while!
Light Rain was a tortoiseshell cat just like her mom. Medium Rain and Heavy Rain were two orange cats that looked identical, only differing in their shades.
These three kittens were adorable, and their temper was much better than Rain’s.
They would only meow in fear when their feet were off the ground, but when they were in the cage, even when Yue Lei maliciously flipped them onto their backs, they wouldn’t get very angry.
But Mo Yingxue stopped her from being a bad person: “If Rain sees you bullying her kids after she’s done eating, she’ll definitely hiss at you again.”
After teasing the family of four, Yue Lei quickly scanned the other cat cages and didn’t see the nursing mother cat inside.
So she asked Jinjin, the receptionist at the pet hospital: “Where are our Downpour and Drizzle?”
Jinjin: “In another room. If you two want to go see them, you have to be careful. Although our mother cat has accepted the kittens, she’s very maternal and is afraid of people.”
Hearing this, Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue looked at each other.
Yue Lei reminded her: “Let’s not move this time. Just look with our eyes.”
This was purely unnecessary. Mo Yingxue glared at her: “Did you see me pet any of the cats after I came in? Just make sure you don’t get your hands dirty.”
To Yue Lei’s surprise, the mother cat at the hospital was a huge Maine Coon silver tabby named “Silver Ingot.”
According to Jinjin, the Maine Coon mother’s kittens were also just over a month old, but next to Downpour and Drizzle, they looked like they were two or three months old!
Yue Lei and Mo Yingxue squeezed next to the cage and whispered to each other: “I felt so guilty before, worried that our kids would take the hospital’s mother cat’s milk.
Now I feel like I was overthinking it. The two of them combined don’t eat as much as one of the little Maine Coons.”
Mo Yingxue hummed: “I asked Jinjin. The hospital’s cats can’t eat food from unknown sources. The cat food we brought can only be eaten by Rain. Remember to buy some nutritional supplements for Silver Ingot.”
Yue Lei didn’t feel anything when she said it, but hearing it from Mo Yingxue’s mouth made her heart flutter.
She giggled and said, “Did you say Rain is our cat?”
Mo Yingxue’s face flushed at her mischievous look. She pursed her lips: “Of course. We found them together and we’re taking care of them together.”
After leaving the hospital, Yue Lei looked at the time. It was only a little past three in the afternoon.
She looked at the girl next to her: “Xiao Xue, do you want to paint this afternoon?”
“No, I’m a little tired,” Mo Yingxue said calmly, not pursuing her running away.
Yue Lei: “Then it’s perfect. I’m going to take some cosplay photos that my fans requested. Do you want to come and have fun?”
Mo Yingxue wasn’t interested in the vampire demon hunter character that Sakura was so enthusiastic about.
In fact, the thought that this was Yue Lei’s side job made her feel an inexplicable sense of irritation.
It was a feeling of things being out of her control.
Besides, she had already seen the makeup look. The photo shoot was going to be in public, so there was nothing she could do anyway.
Mo Yingxue didn’t have a hobby of running around and being an assistant for someone.
She refused directly: “I’m not going. Take the umbrella with you.”
With Mo Yingxue not coming, Yue Lei felt much more relaxed.
“Okay, I’ll take you home first, then change clothes and contact the photographer.”
…
The photographer Yue Lei contacted was Fang Dan.
She was the girl who had slept in the same room as her at the youth hostel and later introduced her to be a model for three days at the school.
Fang Dan looked ordinary, but she was actually a veteran of the “two-dimensional” world.
After the last live stream, Yue Lei posted her three makeup looks on her Moments, and Fang Dan went crazy complimenting her looks.
Yue Lei looked at her profile and found that this girl was an anime fan. Whenever there was a large comic convention, she would rush to the front with her camera.
When she received the clothes from Sakura that day, Yue Lei immediately contacted Fang Dan and arranged to take some professional photos over the weekend.
The weather forecast for this week was rain, and Yue Lei had originally planned to give up.
But to her surprise, it had rained heavily yesterday, but the sun was out when she woke up today.
Although the weather was still a bit gloomy and not as bright as on a sunny day, this kind of hazy and unpredictable feeling was even more suitable for the character that Sakura liked.
The shooting location was chosen by Fang Dan. It was an art district near the university town.
In her previous life, when Yue Lei was active here, this place was almost abandoned. The small shops were run-down and looked like they were about to close down at any moment.
But in this life, it was newly built. The four blocks were decorated in different styles. The Gothic church in the center of the district looked solemn, majestic, and towering, which was very suitable for the role of a vampire demon hunter.
Compared to the makeup colors she got from the live stream, the silver-red cut crease eyeshadow paired with the oxblood lip gloss that Yue Lei did herself today looked more harmonious.
She was wearing a chuunibyou-style fantasy cosplay outfit and walking down the street with a pale face, attracting countless stares.
But Yue Lei had a strong aura. She looked like she wasn’t afraid of anyone or loved anyone. She was so aloof that the passersby felt a sense of distance from her and walked around her.
Except for two girls who thought she was very cool and beautiful and politely asked for a photo with her.
Everyone else just looked at her for a moment and didn’t dare to make any rude comments.
Yue Lei had vampire fangs on her teeth, which looked very cool but made it a little difficult for her to speak.
She asked Fang Dan: “Are there priests and nuns in the church? Can I go in dressed like this?”
Fang Dan was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing.
“Looking at you now, I forgot you’re not a real anime fan!”
Seeing Yue Lei’s baffled expression, she explained: “Every anime fan knows that’s not a real church! It’s a set built for photoshoots. The inside is full of studios specifically for people to take photos. But you don’t have to worry. I’m friends with the person in charge. It only costs fifty per hour.”
Yue Lei only understood that it cost money to take photos inside. She nervously said, “If that’s the case, let’s hurry up.”
“It’s okay. They don’t charge extra after four hours.” Fang Dan patted her bulging backpack: “We agreed, right? We’ll shoot yours first, and then we’ll shoot mine.”
Yue Lei readily agreed.
Although it was her first time doing a professional cosplay photoshoot, Yue Lei did very well. She had a face that looked good from every angle, and Fang Dan was also very good at directing her poses.
Walking, stopping, adjusting the lights, posing…
In less than three hours, the two of them finished shooting the photos for the vampire demon hunter, Zhenni Zhang.
While shooting, Yue Lei didn’t forget to use her phone stand to record some videos.
She could send them to Sakura as a package later to make her happy.
In the lounge, Fang Dan excitedly took out a wig and a cosplay outfit from her backpack: “We agreed to do a free-of-charge shoot for each other. I’ll shoot the photos you want, and then you’ll be my model for my favorite character.”
The more she looked, the more something felt wrong. Yue Lei asked suspiciously: “Is your favorite character a pink-haired sweet girl? I’m 178 cm tall with shoes on, and my face isn’t young enough, is it?”
