Pretending to Be a Submissive O: My Fiancee Is a Little Pup - Chapter 12
Hearing those words, Ji Yaran’s movements came to a sudden halt.
Song Qingxue’s voice was laced with caution, and anyone with a bit of sensitivity could hear the timidness hidden beneath. Ji Yaran hadn’t expected that Song Qingxue’s reason for coming to find her tonight was rooted in such a thought.
She wanted to live with her, yet felt certain she would be kicked out, so she only brought Ji Yaran’s things?
“I thought, if Sister wasn’t willing to keep me, then bringing these things to you would at least be helpful,” Song Qingxue said, pulling an insulated cup from the bag. “This is the one you usually use. If you didn’t have it, you might not be comfortable…”
Ji Yaran would be lying if she said she wasn’t moved.
Any lingering dissatisfaction she felt toward Song Qingxue for following her vanished in an instant. She took the backpack and sorted through the items Song Qingxue had brought, finding that most were practical essentials, some were things she had left behind because they were too heavy, and others were items Song Qingxue felt she needed and had bought specifically for her.
Even a future wife probably wouldn’t be this thoughtful.
“I’ll accept your kindness,” Ji Yaran said, zipping the bag back up after taking out the last small item. “Thank you.”
“Sister, you aren’t mad at me?” Song Qingxue asked tentatively. “Not angry?”
“Why would I be angry?” Ji Yaran couldn’t help but chuckle. “Getting angry won’t solve anything, and besides, you had good intentions. I won’t blame you this time.”
“I’m glad you aren’t angry,” Song Qingxue blinked and gave her a bright smile. “During these months of filming, I’ll definitely be the best personal assistant you’ve ever had.”
“Alright, alright,” Ji Yaran pinched her cheek. “I’ll trust you this once.”
Checking the time, she said to Song Qingxue, “Tell you what, since you didn’t bring any clothes, I’ll head down and buy some temporary undergarments for you.”
“Sister, I actually brought those with me,” Song Qingxue said, looking a bit embarrassed. “But, I ran out of my previous suppressants and haven’t had a chance to…”
“I’ll go buy some. There’s a pharmacy right across from the hotel.” Calculating it out, Song Qingxue’s next heat was less than half a month away, and staying together would likely be safer.
“Then Sister, I’ll wait for you in the room.”
“Okay, I’ll be back soon.” Ji Yaran hadn’t changed since she got back, so she just tidied herself up a bit and headed out.
The pharmacy across from the hotel was open 24 hours. Ji Yaran bought a box of standard suppressants, enough to help Song Qingxue get through her next heat safely.
Returning to the hotel, she faintly heard the sound of an argument coming from the third-floor hallway, seemingly between a man and a woman. The woman’s voice was cool and mature, sounding somewhat familiar to Ji Yaran, as if she had heard it somewhere before.
“Tang Rui, I don’t understand what you’re so bothered by. This is a win-win situation, succeeding would benefit both of us.” The man’s footsteps were hurried, his voice sounding anxious.
Hearing that name, Ji Yaran stopped in her tracks.
Tang Rui?
Why was she here?
The two were talking in the third-floor corridor. If she went back now, she would definitely be seen. While Ji Yaran had nothing to hide, she knew that if she stumbled upon their private conversation, it would be awkward for everyone, and it might even work against her.
If she went back down to the second floor and came up from the other side, it would look too deliberate. She might as well listen to what they were saying first.
Tang Rui’s tone was exceptionally cold. “I don’t need that kind of ‘benefit.’ Besides, we are just colleagues on set, there’s no need for these unnecessary theatrics.”
“It’s not like we’re actually dating, it’s just hype for the CP (couple). It’s not like it’s going to kill you, is it?”
Ji Yaran had already guessed the man’s identity from the dialogue. The man with Tang Rui was likely the male lead of the drama, Xue Yan.
“Who in this industry doesn’t do fan service?” Xue Yan paused. “Didn’t you and Xu Zhi before…”
“Enough!” At the mention of Xu Zhi’s name, Tang Rui’s expression changed instantly, and her voice turned ice-cold. “I’ve already said it, we are just colleagues. Please have some self-respect.”
With that, she shook off Xue Yan’s hand and walked down the hallway in her high heels, returning to her room.
Xue Yan stared at her retreating back, clenched his fists, and muttered, “Unlocking your potential, who do you think you are?”
After Tang Rui left, Xue Yan took his phone and headed downstairs to make a call. Ji Yaran emerged from the stairwell, relieved she hadn’t been spotted. It seemed the atmosphere of this production was far less peaceful than she had imagined. Aside from Xiao Rongrong, the known troublemaker, there seemed to be a hidden grudge between Tang Rui and Xue Yan as well.
With a beep, the hotel room door swiped open.
The room was filled with a sweet and sour fruity fragrance. It was fresh and not overpowering, unlike the scent of body wash, it felt more like a natural body fragrance enhanced by perfume, sexy yet not erotic, instead possessing a strange, calming effect.
Song Qingxue, having just finished her shower, was sitting on the edge of the bed wearing only a nude-colored silk camisole. She was drying her damp hair with a towel. Hearing Ji Yaran return, she looked toward the entrance. “Sister, why did you take so long? Did they run out of suppressants?”
The pharmacy was right across the street, a round trip should have taken fifteen minutes, but Ji Yaran had been gone for over half an hour, enough time to run across two streets.
Ji Yaran bent over to change her shoes, explaining unhurriedly, “I ran into Tang Rui in the hallway.”
“Tang Rui?” Song Qingxue’s movements froze, her towel slowing down. For some reason, her tone suddenly became complicated. “What did she say to you?”
“Nothing, I just saw her and Xue Yan talking outside. I was afraid it would be awkward to bump into them, so I waited outside for a bit. That’s why I’m late.”
“Oh?” Song Qingxue looked thoughtful. “So, you heard what they were saying?”
“Yeah, Xue Yan seemed quite persistent with Tang Rui.”
Song Qingxue explained while drying her hair, “Xue Yan is a notorious playboy in the industry. He was rumored to be with Xiao Rongrong for a long time. Sister, he’s not a good person, stay away from him.”
Ji Yaran was surprised. “He’s Xiao Rongrong’s boyfriend?”
“Who knows,” Song Qingxue shook her head. “They were caught by paparazzi staying overnight together. Although neither has admitted it, they haven’t denied it either. It’s basically confirmed.”
“And yet he’s still pursuing Tang Rui?”
“I heard he pursued Tang Rui in the past but was rejected. Xiao Rongrong and Tang Rui are in the same company and have worked together on a few projects, so they have some history. People in the circle have always speculated that Xue Yan only got close to Xiao Rongrong to get closer to Tang Rui.”
“And Xiao Rongrong doesn’t mind?”
“Xiao Rongrong hasn’t had many roles these past few years. Xue Yan is a top-tier star after all, and he has some say in his company. He’s the one who recommended Xiao Rongrong to the director for this drama. They’re basically using each other.”
“No wonder Xue Yan dares to ask Tang Rui to hype a CP while Xiao Rongrong is on set.” If it was a mutual arrangement, once Xue Yan and Tang Rui successfully created hype, Xiao Rongrong could even use it to ‘clarify’ her own rumors with Xue Yan and play the victim to gain sympathy. In that scenario, both she and Xue Yan would benefit, and only Tang Rui would be left in the eye of the storm.
“Actually, the industry is very optimistic about this drama, and the two of them look great together. It’s natural for the company to want to create hype. However, Tang Rui absolutely loathes CP hype. Xue Yan really walked right into a trap this time.”
Ji Yaran recalled Tang Rui’s intense reaction. She felt there was some unknown secret involved, specifically Tang Rui’s reaction when Xue Yan mentioned Xu Zhi…
“Did Tang Rui and Sister Xu Zhi have some kind of falling out?”
Song Qingxue was momentarily stunned. Her gaze toward Ji Yaran gradually deepened, blending into the dim light, making her emotions hard to read.
“Sister, why do you ask?”
“When Xue Yan mentioned Xu Zhi just now, Tang Rui’s attitude changed instantly,” Ji Yaran said, unaware of the other’s internal reaction. “Do they have a grudge?”
Song Qingxue finished drying her hair and set the towel aside. She sighed and gave Ji Yaran a helpless look. “Sister… you really don’t keep up with gossip, do you? During the years when Tang Rui and Xu Zhi were at their peak, their fanbases were always at each other’s throats.”
“Was it just that?” Ji Yaran was skeptical.
True, fan wars were common, but often artists’ private relationships weren’t as bad as fans imagined. She had only met Xu Zhi twice, but her impression was good, and she didn’t sense any resentment toward Tang Rui in her words. Back then, after Xu Zhi became famous, she quickly terminated her contract and opened her own studio. Her investment in Embrace When the Snow Falls gave her total power over the female lead selection. If she really hated Tang Rui that much, this would have been a redundant move.
“What’s wrong, Sister?” Song Qingxue stood up and walked to her side. “Stop thinking about things that have nothing to do with you. You have to rush to the set tomorrow. If you have this much free time, you should spend it getting more familiar with the script.”
This was a role Ji Yaran had worked hard to get. Every artist she worked with was more famous and experienced than she was, so whether her performance would be convincing was crucial to her future career.
Ji Yaran knew this well. She checked the time and cleared her head. “I know, I’ll go after my shower.”
The next day.
Even though Ji Yaran was a supporting character, her scenes started early. There was a large amount of filming on the first day, so she had to rush to the set early for makeup.
She played Min Qing, a member of the female lead Shu Tong’s ballet troupe. The scene today involved the troupe, so her costume was a ballet outfit.
Before her soul traveled here, Ji Yaran had practiced ballet for a time. Although she hadn’t danced since entering the film academy, her basic skills were still there. However, the original owner’s body had no dance foundation, so her flexibility might limit her performance.
After changing, she checked herself in the mirror.
The ballet outfit was tight-fitting, highlighting her curves very clearly. The original owner’s figure was naturally on the voluptuous side, making the chest area a bit snug. Fortunately, the shape was beautiful, her waist was thin, and her legs were long. Although she had always been called a “vase” (eye candy), this ballet outfit looked particularly striking on her.
“Sister, you look so sexy,” Song Qingxue said as she helped tidy the outfit. She looked Ji Yaran up and down, a smile of appreciation blooming on her lips. “It’s just a pity…”
Hearing her leave it hanging, Ji Yaran couldn’t help but ask, “A pity for what?”
Song Qingxue let go of the hem of her skirt and looked up at her, her lips red and her gaze deep as a well. “A pity that I’m not the only one who gets to see you.”
