- Chapter 4 - Lip ServiceL "Feng Zhao and I... Are Truly, Deeply in Love."
Feng Zhao’s aesthetic was completely different from Li Yixing’s. While Li Yixing had chosen a plain ring, Feng Zhao had selected one embedded with diamonds.
And not just any diamonds; they were colored diamonds, encrusted in a full circle around the band.
It was an incredibly garish taste.
Li Yixing felt the vein at the corner of his eye twitching. However, since he was not the one wearing it, he chose to respect the other’s preferences.
Beyond the rings, the two also chose cufflinks, bracelets, necklaces, and other jewelry. They both picked items casually, finishing the task in under half an hour. When they stepped outside, the sun was blazing. Feng Zhao was just about to open his aircraft when he was suddenly jerked forward by Li Yixing.
Years of military habit made Feng Zhao subconsciously raise his hand to counter-attack, but he realized in time that they were outside a jewelry store. He forcibly braked his impulse to flip Li Yixing over his shoulder.
Before he could even ask what was happening, he felt his neck being firmly gripped by cold, slender fingers and shoved violently toward Li Yixing’s shoulder.
Feng Zhao’s nose poked into Li Yixing’s straight collarbone, his breath hitting the hollow of Li Yixing’s neck.
“Don’t move,” Li Yixing’s chilly voice rang clearly by his ear. “There are media nearby. If you don’t want the Yas Evening News to write about us having different dreams in the same bed, then behave.”
Feng Zhao: “…”
Li Yixing was settling personal scores, using his fingers with lethal force. But the first thing Feng Zhao felt was not the pain, but the faint scent on Li Yixing. It was unclear whether it was shower gel or laundry detergent.
It smelled a bit like pine needles, and a bit like lilies.
To the media photographing from afar, the Alliance Security Minister and the Alliance Major General had just stepped out of the jewelry store after choosing wedding rings and, unable to restrain themselves, had begun to kiss passionately. It was the cool, handsome Minister Li who had initiated it!
Major General Feng clearly could not resist, already lost in the moment as he bit down fiercely on Minister Li’s neck.
“Holy crap! So explosive!”
“Why are they still kissing? Major General Feng has amazing lung capacity. It is just that from this angle, we cannot see Minister Li’s face clearly.”
Everyone agreed unanimously: the headline for tomorrow’s StarNet was secured.
On the other side, before Feng Zhao could even discern whether the scent on Li Yixing was pine or lily, a roar of anger came from behind: “Feng Zhao! What are you doing to Yixing!”
The shoulder was quickly pushed away, and the faint fragrance dissipated into the air. Feng Zhao staggered back two steps, feeling an undeniable pain in the back of his neck and hearing Li Yixing’s icy voice: “Idiot.”
The blonde, green-eyed Major General Ross was beyond furious. He stormed toward Li Yixing and Feng Zhao, his entire face flushed as if he were spitting fire.
“You!” Ross pointed at Feng Zhao’s nose, shouting without a shred of dignity, “Shameless! You actually forced Yixing! I will not let him marry you!”
Feng Zhao: “…”
Could you figure out who is forcing whom? Why is this privileged, vision-impaired man spouting such nonsense with his eyes wide open?
Li Yixing could win first place in military combat classes back in school, and after he started working, he performed the most dangerous intelligence operations infiltrating the Oga Empire. Who would dare force him? Was he not afraid of getting three stabs and six holes from Li Yixing’s butterfly knife in the middle of the night?
On the other side, the corner of Li Yixing’s mouth twitched. He could not help but close his eyes, attempting to keep them out of sight so he would not be annoyed.
Ross was certain that Li Yixing was being coerced and was currently enraged. He grabbed Li Yixing’s hand and began to babble uncontrollably: “I absolutely will not! I absolutely will not hand him over to you!”
“Yixing, I am going to find Father right now. We will go register our marriage immediately!” Ross wept. “How could you be with such a bastard?”
The media, who were sneaking photos not far away, whispered: Wow!
“Major General Ross is actually in love with his adopted brother, Li Yixing! Heavens! No wonder General Davis was so desperate to set a wedding date with the Feng family!”
“Who says otherwise? If it were my family, I would rush to marry off an adopted son too!”
“But Major General Ross and Minister Li are not even blood-related. Minister Li is so good-looking, it is only natural for someone to love him!”
The reporters discussed it, not forgetting to continue filming and eavesdropping on this earth-shattering gossip.
“Who are you calling a bastard?” Seeing Li Yixing quickly pull his hand from Ross’s grasp, Feng Zhao’s acting skills exploded. He took advantage of the opening and grabbed onto him again, dutifully playing the part of a jealous lover.
Li Yixing’s hands were ice-cold, while Feng Zhao’s were burning hot. Their fingers were tightly intertwined, appearing as the external manifestation of unyielding love.
In reality, the two were using more force than the other, practically trying to crush each other’s finger bones.
While struggling, Feng Zhao did not forget the persona that he and Li Yixing were in a free-love relationship. Enduring the pain in his hand, he smiled at Ross: “Out of respect for Yixing, Major General Ross, I will call you brother. Let me reiterate: Yixing and I are truly, deeply in love. It is one thing for you to have psychological issues and fall in love with your own adopted brother, resulting in absurd desires to treat him like a child bride, but to refuse to let him pursue his own happiness is truly vicious.”
The words made Ross’s eyes widen, his face turning the color of pig liver: “Do you think I do not know what kind of person you are? Do you think I do not understand your relationship? Yixing does not even…”
“Enough!” Li Yixing interrupted Ross decisively, his voice cold: “Ross, Feng Zhao and I… are truly, deeply in love.”
“I will only marry him.”
As he spoke, he raised their intertwined hands and quickly kissed his own middle finger.
Feng Zhao was so startled by the move that his mental alarm bells rang, but when he saw it was his own finger he was kissing, his heart settled, and his rigid back relaxed.
The lurking media immediately captured this precious scene.
“Yixing! You… you!!!”
Ross was so stimulated by the sight that he could not believe it. He pointed at Li Yixing with trembling fingers, glared fiercely at Feng Zhao, and turned around, walking away in a rage.
Tomorrow’s headline would be even more explosive. So, Minister Li was even being pursued by his own adopted brother! This was a love triangle! What a massive scoop!
But it seems Major General Ross, despite having the advantage of proximity, did not win the heart. Minister Li’s devotion to Major General Feng was unwavering. Just look—look at them—Minister Li and Major General Feng are locking eyes! How well-matched they are, how deep their affection!
In fact, Feng Zhao could barely maintain the fake smile on his face. He whispered, “Minister Li, that is enough. Let go.”
Li Yixing’s expressionless face also showed signs of cracking. He stared straight into Feng Zhao’s gray eyes and sneered, “Major General Feng, if you want to be sincere, you let go first.”
The two confronted each other for a moment before Feng Zhao finally conceded, releasing his hand.
Their palms and knuckles were already deathly pale from lack of blood, and the more severe spots were already showing red marks and bruises.
But to the media, this was another highlight to hype up! They are so in love that they were gripping each other’s hands, refusing to let go!
If Feng Zhao knew what these people were thinking, he would probably want to pry their heads open one by one to see what kind of messy paste was inside.
Obstructed by the fact that they were being followed, Feng Zhao finally opened his aircraft as a gentleman, invited Li Yixing inside like a gentleman, and whispered that he should hurry up and get in so he could do a favor to the end and send this great Buddha home.
Li Yixing, upholding his professional spirit that if you act, you must do a full set, pinched his nose and boarded Feng Zhao’s aircraft.
Inside the craft, the two no longer needed to pretend to be lovers. Li Yixing sat in the passenger seat, staring straight ahead, not sparing even a glance for Feng Zhao. Feng Zhao focused on fiddling with his wrist-device, processing several urgent military documents.
As they neared the destination, Feng Zhao adjusted the flight path and glanced at Li Yixing nonchalantly.
The latter sat upright. Sunlight shone through the glass, casting the half of his face turned toward Feng Zhao into shadow, making his ink-black pupils appear even deeper.
“Are your wounds healed?” Feng Zhao asked suddenly.
Li Yixing paused, turned his head, and gifted Feng Zhao a completely expressionless face: “Was your memory system short-circuited by the instant coffee at the military department? It has been three years. Of course they are healed.”
He knew the wound Feng Zhao was referring to was the severe injury he sustained three years ago while retreating from the Empire’s Rhea Star. The Oga Empire and the Alliance had always been at odds; once an Alliance spy like him was discovered by Oga’s defense personnel, they would inevitably face the highest level of pursuit.
Li Yixing remembered struggling to escape from Rhea Star to the Purple Rose Star in the Tartarus system, which bordered the Alliance. He was eventually saved by the patrol team led by Feng Zhao and sent back to the Fifth Galaxy Great Wall Fortress for treatment.
The emergency rescue lasted a long time, roughly three days. Li Yixing had been pulled back from the gates of hell by the medical staff. Later, he recuperated at the Great Wall Fortress for a month and a half before being personally escorted by Feng Zhao’s team back to the capital planet, Nüwa.
If he had not been saved back then, Li Yixing’s ashes would have been returned to Nüwa, buried in the Angel Hall cemetery in the Yas district, adjacent to his parents.
“Time flies. It feels like this happened just yesterday,” Feng Zhao said while propping his head on his hand to watch Li Yixing. Objectively speaking, Minister Li had a cold personality and was not very likable, but his face was certainly pleasing to the eye.
“What?” Li Yixing raised an eyebrow, his words still coated in ice shards: “Do you want to use that kindness as leverage?”
Feng Zhao sat up straight and said slowly, “No, I just think you looked really pathetic back then.”
Li Yixing: “…”
He knew that everything coming out of Feng Zhao’s mouth was garbage, not a single clean word among them.
“Then I really should thank you. Besides, what a coincidence,” Li Yixing laughed with irony, “I was saved by my future husband. This is quite the repayment for saving a life.”
Feng Zhao: “…”
The two stared at each other in mutual loathing. They could not agree on a single thing, so they turned their heads away in disgust, both firmly agreeing that talking to the other was a mistake!
A huge mistake!
